    priced like an iPhone too

    • +19

Never understood the appeal of Nothing phone. Remove all "distractions" or whatever but charges more than others. How does it work?

      • +5

Yep the description starts off with -

Are you tired of the clutter and distractions of modern smartphones? Do you long for a simpler and more elegant way to communicate and stay connected?

But no explanation as to what all that means? Too much meaningless marketing mumbo jumbo.

        Come to the bright side.

        • +2

          meaningless marketing mumbo jumbo

Not much else phones can do to differentiate at the mid-range price point. Largely same processors, battery capacity. Some differences in software. Comparable cameras.
No ecosystem comparable to Apple's iPhone.

Nothing has elected to go design-forward

          • +11

            @Gdsamp: Above $1100 doesn't seem very mid range …

  • +8

Price does not seem to be anywhere close to Nothing!

  • Hi rep - appreciate this is a pre order - is there a shipping date when these will leave the factory …

    • +1

      Hi pw2002au,

The Phone will leave the factory towards the end of July and you should expect delivery in August

      Thanks!

  • +1

Is phone 1 not selling anymore?

  • +23

Remove all distractions of modern smartphones by adding a giant f—king glowing light to the back.

  • +3

    Are these genuine Nothing products?

  • +27

Why on Earth would anyone pay such a premium price for a mock iPhone that has last year's processor and average specs to boot? Come to think of it I haven't seen a single person out in the wild with one of these phones let alone hearing of someone owning one.

Edit for downvote: This isn't a deal, it's an advertisement. I mean come on - look at the price of their "case" it's $45. The same "case" that's included with Xiaomi phones standard in the box to get you started.

Double edit: OP's username checks out too 😆

  • +8

How is it 'removing distractions' when it's the only phone with a giant light on the back? Isn't that adding more distractions?

  • +2

if it's nothing, why does it cost so much?!?!

  • +8

I got the S23 Ultra 512gb for $1200 after all the rebates and discounts, and Newer processor too! Pass.

  • +5

tough sell with the price being raised $250 from the Nothing Phone 1

    i'd probably just buy a Galaxy S23+ with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 like https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/786782 a week ago for $150 less

  • +3

I might buy one when these nothing phones 2's drop under $800, maybe.

  • +15

So, save $30 off RRP $1468 and only pay $1438…. so essentially the 'bargain' is a 2.04% discount?

Sounds more like a marketing post rather than a bargain..

  • +6

no deal for a phone with relatively lacklustre specs, no best in class camera, and an unproven long term update track record at a price like that. but hey, it lights up!!

i cannot possibly imagine why someone would buy this over a pixel 7 - which admittedly also has a relatively lacking soc, but at least it's priced appropriately - or even an iphone with discounted gcs.

  • +1

Ebay store only open since 3 July with 4 followers and 0 feedback. That's kinda close to nothing…

    • Also nothing on official nothing channels linked back to this eBay store…

      • Actually, you might be wrong. I thought I'd check it out (official website) as well, and if you click on the (admittedly small) "find a store" link at the bottom of the webpage, it actually directs to this store, so seems pretty official endorsement to me. I can understand if you missed it though, as I said, pretty small…maybe that might give some others some reassurance of legitimacy?

  • +2

High end pricing for nothing special in return. Sony phones which are significantly better than these and still couldn't survive in aus, wish you the best.

    • Midrange pricing*

    • So true, another brand destined for failure.

  • +1

So now you can drop your phone and shatter glass on both sides rather than just the front… because it's cool to see the inside right.?

    I don't get it.
Are we supposed to be gagging for the 4% launch discount?
I appreciate they're trying to create something edgy and cool, but this seems like nothing more than hype for the upcoming launch.

I'd rather get the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra 256GB $1364.30 delivered at Samsung Education, AU stock, local warranty, fantastic camera, much better specs, years of OS and security updates, massive company.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/787952

Or wait for another deal of Apple iPhone 14 Pro 128 GB $1486.65 delivered at Amazon Australia, (And again - AU stock, local warranty, fantastic camera, much better specs, years of OS and security updates, massive company :)

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/774489

  • If I was still on Android I'd definitely be going for the Phone (2). Great improvements over the (1). I like the company too.

disclaimer: I was previously a user of the Essential PH-one phone so I tend to like the underdogs so to speak..

    • Essential was really good for its time, it had modem issues. But that ceramic body, sharp slate look and magnetic attachment system was to die for.

    • With the frequent S23 series deals why would you get sub flagship tier at the same price point?

      • +1

Because (profanity) Samsung and their ugly-ass OS?

        • Couldn’t agree more, Samsungs One UI is dog shit.

    • +3

      Hi narcolpetic-haze,

Thanks for your support of Nothing. For others in the community, some more information below.

Nothing was founded in 2020, with investors in the company including iPod inventor Tony Fadell, Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman. So although they're new, they've got some big names backing them and have sold over 1.5 million devices worldwide.

Most recently they've received $96 millions dollars in further funding, including from Google Ventures and the music group Swedish House Mafia (https://news.crunchbase.com/retail/venture-capital-fundraisi…). They're growing and expected to grow even more.

In regards to software and support, they offer 3 years of OS updates, 4 years security [comparing to Samsung - 4-5 years OS, 4-5 years security (for select Galaxy devices), Google - 3 years OS, 5 year security].

Feel free to check out a few reviews below :

      Marques Brownlee https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRUtHtqfCGA
      Mrwhosetheboss - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nk0qACYkbQM
      GSMArena - https://www.gsmarena.com/nothing_phone_2-review-2586.php

So if you're happy to give an underdog (with big backing) a go, and want to try something other than Samsung or Apple, Nothing is certainly worth a consideration.

      • I was really impressed at the improvement in software/branding across the OS in (2). Very nice work. Currently I've committed to the whole Apple ecosystem .. and I actually prefer smaller phones (I have an iPhone mini). But best of luck.

    • +1

      Said no one ever.

  • +2

I could not find anything on their official website for this ebay channel. Be aware that it could be a potential fraud/scam. Until they provide some sort of evidence or verification.

  • +2

Considering the OzBargain community is quite savvy/conscious of the Australian Consumer Law and related consumer rights, it might help if you can detail out your local Australian retail and support location and channels as you guys are starting new. There is currently no information so far on customer support or warranty contacts, due to the nature of the eBay store front.

While spelling out the ABN is better than not (https://abr.business.gov.au/ABN/View?abn=82669381364, THE BRANDCONNECT GROUP PTY LTD, TOORAK VIC 3142), but it doesn't really give sufficient confidence as anyone can register for an ABN even if there is no local support infrastructure. Especially Nothing is still considered as a start-up, so even if there's more info on support, who knows when Carl decides to fold this one or the AU channel.

As others have mentioned, the prices are quite lacklustre compared to your competitions.

  • This is over priced just for a few lights on the back. Most people use a case for their phone or a skin like myself. This is pointless.

I would rather spend that money on a Mi 13 Pro instead if I'm going to get a Chinese phone.

  • its not a deal

  • Rather buy a Clearphone

  • ouch the price

  • Nothing really matters

  • 🚶… Nothing to see here.

  • …And here I thought OzBargain was about getting something for nothing, not Nothing for something.

  • +2

Got burned by the (1). OS was buggy AF and some key apps didn't work (e.g. 7-Eleven app). The ear buds were meh as well. The bright side was that it gave me a big enough push to move back to the Apple ecosystem and it's been great.

  • +3

OP getting smacked with negs 😂
    What a terrible name.
    “What phone do you use?”
    “Nothing”
    “You don’t own a phone?”
    “Nah, it’s called nothing”
    “Oh, right 🤨”

  • +1

can you make your phones repairable first then i might buy one

    • +1

there is nothing wrong with your phone

      • +1

        Nothing is repairable.

  • +3

Why are thye taking pre-orders on eBay. Sounds fishy.

    • +1

You are right mate pre-sales is not allowed on eBay as I just checked.
One may report a listing of such by selecting
      1. Listening practices, then
      2. Inappropriate seller terms, then
      3. Presale

  • Couldn’t find a reason to own one of these phones for that price. A tiny $30 discount for two extra extra purchases along with phone itself that is asking for over $1300 is everything but a deal.
Please take my very first down vote on obz you are well qualified.

  • Anyone else reads this as offensive?

“Each pre-order item has an estimated shipping date but this is subject to change from the manufacturer without prior notice. If for any reason we are not able to fulfill your pre-order, we will refund you for the full amount immediately.”

Too many questions just name a few,
    What terms of fulfilment?
If no accurate forecast of delivery date how to qualify a successful fulfilment? Or a failure of fulfilment?
    Refund immediately since when?

  • Seems very fishy. Not to mention the inflated price where there are plenty of other choices.

  • +1

If you are going to offer such a tiny discount, you shouldn't have bothered. Having discounts on a launch product also isn't a very good look when you're meant to be an Apple alternative and premium brand - should probably reconsider your attempts at free advertising on ozbargain and take out some proper ads in social media etc with your new found 900 million dollars in investment ..

  • Some fascinating comments in this thread:

"I would rather spend that money on a Mi 13 Pro instead if I'm going to get a Chinese phone."

    • What about this phone makes it a "Chinese" phone?

"I got the S23 Ultra 512gb for $1200 after all the rebates and discounts, and Newer processor too! Pass."

    • So in other words the more expensive phone has newer, more expensive specs. Note taken.

"So now you can drop your phone and shatter glass on both sides rather than just the front… because it's cool to see the inside right.?"

    • How have you not come across phones with glass backs before? They've been the standard for about 10 years.
    • Agree that this thread is interesting

Claims of the store being dodgy or fishy seem incorrect as I mentioned in my other comment, I've found that the official store links to this eBay store in "find a store".

eBay does seem to allow presales as shown here https://www.ebay.com.au/help/policies/listing-policies/presa…

They're a new store (and stated as such), so it's also not unreasonable for them to have no/few followers or feedback. All stores have to start somewhere don't they?

They're offering earbuds with a purchase of a phone for those prices, otherwise, the phone can be purchased starting from $1049, which I don't think is terrible

Some people are happy to pay some premiums for new brands, have something new and different and/or support innovation, take the glyphs how you will.

I've been watching and reading a few reviews on it, and it seems generally well received. I think it could have potential.

I also have an essential phone and the magnetic 360 camera attachment. Great device! =)

  • Good luck in getting even 100 preorders in whole of Australia.

@nothingtechau You should at least pass it to your Product team that with this pricing (when a Pixel 7 Pro is regularly $999/$949 every 2nd week, this phone is dead on launch). How was even the pricing arrived at, unless the marketing team comes with an Oppo trade in promotion with a huge trade in bonus, it will struggle to even sell. All those big name and investment $ are to be used to increase market share and provide amazing pre-launch bonuses (learn from Google P6/P7 launches last year and year before through Google store direct). Looks like I am giving a 101 product lesson on how to sell in Australia lol
