Separate ecosystems. But yes I have both. :-)

    • Might be an argument for a firestick and an OG (cast-only) CC, but no reason to have both a Firestick and a CCwGTV (newer CC with the remote and UI) IMO.

    • just chose which ecosystem you like/use.
unless you're just getting it cheap for someone with no idea or cares about home control, to convert an old telly etc.

  • i only need one, but obviously cheaper to buy two

wonder if i can buy 2 then return 1?

    • Gift the second one to someone?

    • Was thinking same..

    • +1

Sell the second one on FB marketplace for profit, offsetting the cost of the first one. Or if you have time, load it up with Kodi and PPV, movie and TV show suppositories for even more profit

    • also just want one haha

  • +1

Why would you need one of these if your tv has android tv? Actually curious how it would improve my watching experience. Not interested in Alexa controls

    • +1

This is a really fast processor so it's snappy to use, has ongoing and evolving support, can pair with a pair of echo speakers for cheap no lag stereo sound.

  • How do I cast to this from an iPhone?

    • +5

Sell the iPhone, buy an Android.

  • did anyone try to use both at same time ? One remote per device ? hope I can identify which remote is fow which ftvs.

    • +1

The remotes are paired via bluetooth so no issues.

  • Been thinking about getting one of these for ages. But my 4-year-old Samsung TV still has no problem playing Netflix, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, etc. What do I gain by buying this stick?

  • +1

Great device for retro gaming up to PS1 as well!

    • Except for the input lag if using a bluetooth controller and limited onboard storage.

      • I have a USB attached for storage. Haven’t noticed the lag at all.

  • Do these still use Micro USB for power or have they updated to USB-C? Thanks

    • Micro

      • Thanks

  • I've been a bit of Firestick fan for awhile now.

However, recently I installed Tenda M6 mesh units for wifi. Since doing so the Firesticks will drop the network connection after about 60 minutes. The only way I found to re-establish the wi-fi connection was to cold restart the Firestick.

    • Could you not blame the tenda M6 though?

      • I don't think so - an elimination process I've gone thru suggests only the Firestick 4Ks are affected.

Google devices on the same hardware holds the connection, as do other devices including older HD firesticks.

I've raised the issue with Amazon tech support but have not heard back. I have alternative streaming devices available until a solution is found. But the M6 setup is staying. It works exceptionally well.

        • im using those rooted Telstra Gen2 boxes,, and work great,,

    • I had an issue with my tenda mesh setup where certain devices would be initially connect to closest best signal node but over time migrate to the primary hub and hold that connection even though they had basically no signal. If a restarted the device (or the mesh) it would go back to the closest (and good reception) mesh node.

Spotted a Deco m5 3 pack at bunnings for $75 the other day and its been perfect since.

  • I caved and purchased….don't have a tv that needs these though

    • it will make most TVs a lot better

  • Can I use it on my Office monitor? Just for spare use in one of my room.

    • If HDMI then yes!
      (at least can with CCwGTV)

      • My monitor does not have a speaker inbuilt. Will I be able to connect connect Bluetooth speakers with firestick?

        • Give it a go and see - i'd say yes since it's got bluetooth but others can confirm

          • @xwx: How you connected your Bluetooth speakers? Like does this firestick has the ability to connect via bluetooth . Sorry but I need some understanding

              • @xwx: Thanks so much for detailed explanation

        • Yes.

Consider a pair of suitable echos that can be set up as a no lag stereo pair. Huge upgrade.to my TVs sound.

  • Not even sure why I need this when I have Android TV but bought it anyway. Buy first, think later.

    • I've got an older TV and a slowish TCL so I'm hoping for improved performance. Guess it depends on your current TV quality though.

  • Is this a good Plex client?

  • +1

    Two drawbacks i'm aware of:
    1. Impossible to completely disable motion smoothing on the 4K max (the other models you could) no matter what setting you have running on the TV or Projector
    2. Amazon Prime app cannot output Dolby Atmos when connected to a 1080p device (only enabled with a 4k connected device, a known limitation in the app)

not deal breakers just be aware, especially pertinent when using for home theatre with a 1080p projector.

Still a very slick device and well worth it for the price.

Is there a way to jailbreak the Fire Stick and/or have it run custom firmware? Thanks!

  • What sort of games can we play using Retroarch? What is the setup like? Thanks

    • +1

Up to ps1 and as easy as any other retroarch device.

  • Did anyone get the cashreward? Mine says denied in the app.

  • -1

does anyone have a guide on how to fully maximise the use of this device? (aka, jailbreak plus apps to install)

  • I have a Firestick, and at times the sound goes into "chimpmuck" mode is how I would describe it. I have to restart the Firestick, TV and sound system for it to go normal again. Sometimes it happens and other times can be months before happening again. Anyone have this happen to them?

    • "chimpmuck" mode

Is that like a chimp in mud?

      :P

      • lol, something like that

        • +1

Sorry couldn't resist. That's a nice "bone apple tea"

Never had that or chipmunk mode that i can recall. The audio in sync still or is it playing too fast?

I'd probably do a factory reset and see if it keeps happening.

          • @Duff5000: I just found in the search to go to Audio setting and pick Dolby Digital. So I'll do that next time.

Yeah, audio in sync and plays too fast. Resetting it usually does the trick or I have to turn off everything and wait 5 seconds.
