For those looking to upgrade the storage in their Steam Deck or ASUS ROG Ally is this M.2 NVMe SSD from WD for a good price. Since it's PCIe Gen4 it has a sequential read up to 5150 MB/s and a sequential write up to 4850 MB/s, making it better than the Samsung PM991A Gen3 SSD.

It's also compatible with other devices that take an M.2 2230 sized SSD including the Surface Pro 9, X, Surface Laptop 3, 4, Go and Surface Book 3. Unfortunately all Gen4 SSDs have random stability issues with the Surface Pro 8 and Surface Pro 7+.

If you're after 1TB you can grab it here for US$60.32 (~A$91.18)

  • Add "SSD Capacity: SN740 2TB" to the cart
  • Apply the coupon JUL10 at checkout
  • Further US$9 discount applied automatically

AU$ based on current Mastercard rate, GST inclusive and doesn't stack with cashback.

great for Rog ally ssd upgrade.

    • Is this faster than the 512GB drive that the Ally comes with?

  • can i use this upgrade the Inspiron 13 Laptop 2-in-1 touch?

What year or specific model is it? They should take the normal sized M.2 2280 SSDs and there's plenty of deals. This one is excellent value.

    • +1

You will have to see if they provide screw holes for 2230 size SSDs. While the M.2 port itself should be compatible, some laptops only provide screws for 2280 size SSDs. The safest bet would be to get a 2280 size SSD. They are also generally cheaper or you can get a faster one for the same price.

Finally, you should double check that your specific laptop supports NVMe drives. There are many various models of the inspiron 13” over the years so check for your specific model.

Curious if anyone might be planning to get one of these and an adapter to go into an Xbox Series X?

    • I didn't think that worked? Everything I read a few months ago said that it wasn't recognized like the Seagate expansion cards. Has there been any further developments since then?

  • Goddamn paid $200 on ebay a few days ago.

    • Would be similar price once you add on tax to Ali express

Didn’t read the bottom, still, I’d buy it locally even if a bit more in case of warranty issues.

If it dies you’ll have to send it back to the seller at your own expense

Got it for my steam deck a few months ago. Works great.

    • Does it affect battery life in any noticeable way from your experience?

      • +1

No idea. Mine is usually plugged into my tv.

  • Have one of these in my Surface Pro X, working great.

  • Would these be good for Xbox series x

  • Maybe the seller wised up, and seeing OzB traffic,
because I'm getting prices of AU$ 192 for the 2TB version.

    • did u apply the code?

      • I didn't even realize there was a code…d'oh !
( I think my eyes need checking, after too much indoors WFH action )

  • So risky buying ANY flash storage from AliExpress. Heaps of it is fake. Not necessarily saying this is, but it could be.

Hey Brad, I think the same here. I only buy bolts and nuts from Aliexpress.

  • Obligatory post noting the stability issues with surface pro 7+ too.

    • +1

      Thanks I added that in.

      • Thanks @Clear

I figure I should highlight the issue until it's included in the description by default. Or the surface book 7 becomes so obsolete it's assumed 😂.

  • Good deal. I've bought this exact SSD for my ROG Ally from this store recently and paid A$210.73 delivered ($199.78 + $19.98 GST - $9.03 discount code).

  • Just bought one for my rog ally. Was holding out for any Amazon prime day deal but i doubt they will come close to this price

  • Is this deal still working. Upon checkout with the coupcon code I receive a price of AU$205.47

    • +1

Party over. They've removed some of the discounts.

  • Encore please op.

  • https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004712828116.html?spm=a2… with code JUL7 gives $187 for those that missed out

  • Just installed this on my ally, worked perfectly.

Also opted to just clone the original drive and copy to this, worked flawlessly. Just need a usb c enclosure.

    • where did u get the usb c enclosure? looking for a cheap one haha

      • I just grabbed one for $34 off amazon. Wait 90 mins guaranteed there will be some cheap ones pop up

  • store has msged me saying that they're OOS and asked me to cancel the deal.. i call bs on it .. their other page have like 30+ more in stock. how do i give the store a negative review?

    • I ordered this item on the 5th, for a little bit more (didn't see this deal in time anyway). Got a message on the 11th, saying there was no stock, and asking me to extend the ship date out a month (had 7 days at the time). Got another message yesterday saying it was out of stock and asking me to cancel. I had ignored both, it still had a "will ship in 5 days" so figured I'd see what happened. I have just now got an email saying it has shipped, with no further comms, which is an… interesting way of doing business.

      • geez i cancelled mine.. should have just held on…

  • Has anyone's order shipped?
