It just released in Japan. English release is September 22nd.
There will be a large print run for 151 so you should be able to wait and see for any sales.
I was in Japan not long ago and it's nuts the lines to buy these cards.
Also its a different breed over there.
Theres stores solely just for Pokemon cards to buy, sell and trade.
In addition there is lots of battle cafes for people to meet up and battle / trade
I've recently started collecting Pokemon cards at 37 years old for the nostalgia and so I have something to pass onto the kids when they get older. Both sets kept in a binder in number order.
Started with Fusion Strike, currently doing Scarlet & Violet and will be doing 151 next.
I grew up with it and have always been disappointed I didn't keep my originals.
What made you choose Fusion Strike and Scarlet & Violet? I know theres heaps of sets
I'll probably start with 151 and maybe do the other regions if they release them in similar numbered sets. I like how they have them numbered on the cards according to pokedex. Artwork looks impressive as well.
I did buy the UPC Celebrations and Charizard UPC though. They are still sealed. Not sure on the 151 UPC yet.
Just started collecting Fusion strike late last year as it was the first thing i seen at Kmart, pulled a few nice cards, made some profit from them and just kept buying with those funds. Scarlet Violet was due to finishing Fusion at the right time so jumped onto that.
Obsidian looks tempting but will likely skip and pre order 151 stuff instead.
Late Sept, possibly October over here I think. Nothing announced retail yet.
Sadly the 151 isn't likely to get a booster box due to it being a collectors series rather than part of the usual game series.

No booster box as its a special set, however a 6 booster bundle will be released which is great news. Beats buying ETBs over and over.
I hear you. I remember opening a bunch of champions path when I first started collecting. I didn't know better. Now I know its more cost effective to just buy singles to complete sets. Pack opening is just for the fun of it.
Does this apply to sets like 151? Cheaper to buy a full set from someone vs ripping packs?
@cyrax83: Depends on the set but most of the time yes it is generally cheaper to buy singles. If youre thinking about the pull rates and 4-5 bucks or more a pack it will add up. Or you can risk it all and get really lucky. It all about how well you pull cards. but also if you open packs then you would get a bunch of doubles too so you can get some money back but then you need to deal with selling to other people too. I should also note that full sets are usually more expensive then finding individual cards yourself because of various reason like seller might overvalue the set or you could just find a better deal on the more rarer cards, etc.

Ended up buying a box this morning. Realised I still have a large number of gaps to fill in my binder, hopefully the doubles I can make some money back on plus anything rare.
I only collect the essential numbers and usually move on the secret rares etc that done fit in the usually count.
For the kids to get started with the cards, is this the best entry point or should we buy other packs? Or wait till 151?
If they want to collect the cards just buy any pack with Pokemon they recognise you really cant go wrong. This booster box with 36 packs could be a bit of an overload though.
If they are looking to play the Pokemon Battle Academy set has everything needed for two players.
It's personally what I would buy if I was starting out collecting. At $4.66 a pack it's a no brainer compared to the $7 at Kmart or $8 at EB. Even if you have to put some away for Xmas etc

I'm doing exactly the same at 36 myself with a 5yr and 2yr old. 5yr old has a set which I made with my doubles to get her started off, current set I'm building she can have when she is older.
