Samsung Galaxy S23 $0 Upfront on $69 24M Optus Plan @ Harvey Norman (in-Store Only)

350

Received an email this morning informing me that via Harvey Norman Optus are offering the Galaxy S23 128GB for $0 upfront if you sign up to their $69 plan for 24 months.

The plan includes 100GB data per month, unlimited calls and text in Australia.
This also includes the free watch via redemption on Samsung website.

Deal looks good if you wanted the phone and plan.
Minus the phone cost the plan looks to be around $22 per month.

  • So how much does it work out to if you cancel the plan straight away?

    • +2

I’ve added the CIS above, hopefully that helps.

      • +13

It doesn't help me. I just want the answer to Bruce's question! lol

        • Lol

        • +3

CIS shows max plan cancellation fee is $828.

          • @Doesnotcompute: Real deal is always in the comments, $828 for phone and watch?

          • +1

@Doesnotcompute: Always half the cost of remaining contract term with optus

            • +1

@Kanjus: I recall last time HN also allowed upgrading within the s23 range and paying the price diff upfront meaning one might be able to upgrade to utra for $500 upfront + $828 ETC = $1328.. great price if possible (+ ultra also comes wihr $100 bonus HN gift card however they may not honor this though)

              • @Doesnotcompute: Worth a shot. Coming up to year end, so would be keen to have your business/commission. Try different stores/agents

                • @Kanjus: Agree worth a shot, though im not in the market, only commented for benefit of others, someone will have to report if successful.

  • It seems like better deal than jb hifi, I am currently with optus, can I port out and port in next day? Will they considered as new service? Or does it have to wait 28 days?

    • +1

port out, wait three days, then port back in. anything shorter and you might have problems. i ported out and in within two days and had problems receiving SMS's as the number was still with the old provider and not fully ported back in and they took three weeks resolving that. don't risk it.

      • Yeah, don't want that hassle but it seems like a better deal with Harvey Norman optus deal rather than JB Hi Fi

    • +1

if you’re on a better plan with optus now, you can get a new service and cancel for half the cost of the plan. $828 is cancellation fee.

    • Isn't the max cancellation for similar jb hifi plan is just 450? though you get offer voucher of only 800 compared to HN's 1149, which probably works out to be the same price on cancellation iinw

Rather I think jb hifi's 89/month plan works out better in terms of discount if planning to cancel.

        • -1

Nah, again $89 works out better if cancelled early

          49 plan —- (1149-400=749) +49 = 798
          89 plan —- (1149-1400= -151) + 89 + 800 = 738

          • @keepsmiling: The $1400 offer is a gift card specifically for purchasing an S23 Ultra and committing to the $89/month plan, they don't give you the money. The $69/month deal applies to any S23 series phone purchase committment, but it works out to be more total cost to cancel in the first month if you're picking up the S23.

For outright phone and cancelling, the only deal worth taking for an S23 is the $49/month offer, and if you're getting the $100 gift card, it becomes the only real value buy. If you want to stay on the plan, the HN/Optus offer is better (assuming you can get the gift card).

    • No, the JB HIFI deal is better to the tune of at least $30, at least while they offer a $100 gift card, which they'll probably match HN's offer to do.

  • +1

1056 dollars more over 2 years for you. Assuming you're currently paying 25 dollars a month for your existing plan and phone.

(This post for tight people like me)

Would only do a deal like this if the cost if the phone worked out very cheap

    • Is it still possible to get 100GB for $25 p/m?

  • Bonus $100 Harvey Norman Gift Card + Bonus Samsung Galaxy Watch5 44mm LTE Graphite, via redemption - wondering if you can also redeem $100 Harvey Norman Gift Card with the optus plan? unlike Jb hi fi, which stated not conjunction with jb hifi mobile offer

  • Does have Norman provide a full tax invoice? Or do they just deduct the fee monthly?

    • They deduct free money. So inshort you get invoice for the amount you pay.

      • Ahh I thought we can claim full amount through tax… oh well…

        Thanks

Would this plan cover the e-sim in the watch?
I presume EPL would be an additional cost too?

My biggest conundrum today before executing is weighing up whether the s23 plus is worth the extra dosh?

    • +1

      Based on what I've read:

S23 if you like a light, compact phone
S23+ if you prefer a bigger screen, better battery and faster charging

      • Cheers, enjoy your new phone

Where’s the iPhone deals? Would a pro s23 be good trade bait for an iPhone 13 Pro or 14 ?

  • can we pay extra for the ultras? or just the 23 5g?

  • Wish they had the S23+ instead

    • You can get the S23+ for $248 up front and $69/month plan
The ultra was around the $550 mark from memory

The discount is off the entire S23 range. The S23 becomes $0 but you can pay the difference between the others.

(Done the S23+ deal for My Mrs yesterday) - No $100 Gift card offered or known about though.

      • Thanks!

I'll drop by later to grab it then :)

      • Did you get an invoice and what price did they put on phone out of curiosity. Interested for TRS reimbursement

        • I will double check when I get home but I think it had the 248 price on the invoice and the plan details below with the breakdown of phone discount etc

          • @s1kwitit: Just checked mine, it's basically what you said.

1 tax invoice from HN stating $248 for the phone.
Then the Optus new contract info on separate papers.

            • @gaber: Thanks for clarifying, might sway me towards the jb deal

      • +2

        Grabbed mine.

Initially the staff said the discount is only for the S23. Told him a mate had his S23+ done in another store, he checked the fine print then said yes it applies to all models.

        $248 up front, $69/month plan.
        Watch redeemed via their website.
Asked about the $100 gift card, he said it's not offered for this deal, only if we purchase the phone outright. He even asked a supervisor and it was a hard no.

  • Wish it was Telstra.

    • Wish it was free !

  • Does this deal work if porting in from another Optus MVNO e.g. Circles?

    • I was with optus, just port out to a $10 voda sim pack from woolies (was on sale for $6). Then an hour later come back as a new optus customer.

Theres also another deal with telstra and good guys tho. Same price per month but $55 upfront instead of $0.

  • So that I don't miss the point, may I carefully ask - why do I need to cancel right away? Got s23 for my wife on this deal. Plan for $22 - sweet. Been paying 35 before. What am I doing wrong If I like the offer as is for the next 24 months? Keep the phone and the plan?

    • I don't see any wrong with that , if I had the means I'd do it myself . If you plan on cancellation , leave it for a day according to previous posts although some may/have attempted straight away . Nice deal either way 👍

  • Amen to that! Enjoy, don't need to do anything… don't worry, be happy!

  • apparently the roaming option with this plan is $10 per day instead of $5 a day, anyone that signed up can confirm this?

  • Does anyone know if Optus will take off $10 a month like Telstra does? for new ports.
