/Looks at his 2 year old Fenix 6 sapphire hmmm
screen upgrade is worth it on the Epix Gen2
but then you remember you didn't buy it to stare at the screen. you bought it to be active and stay fit. go do more of that.
I am waiting for Fenix 8 / Epix 3.
Happy with Fenix 6. Not missing much. Looking at Apple Watch for sleep tracking/ ECG as I can’t wear fenix during nights.
Fenix 8 will be years away
I can wait for years as fenix 6 is perfect for my needs. I have 530, varia 515, light and happy with Garmin eco system. My 14 year old son has a 245.
I wore the watch for 2 years while sleeping on left hand and was diagnosed with carpel tunnel. Not sure if the watch was the reason but now wear it on my right hand and don't wear it while sleeping. Want something thin and cheap to wear while sleeping. Hence looking for an apple watch which I can get free as part of AIA Vitality.
Garmin sleep tracking works well for me and ECG is pointless after it shows nothing wrong for 99% of people.
Apple watch constantly runs out of battery , have to baby it for sleep tracking, and you are worried about damaging it all the time.
I have used Samsung and Apple watches to a lessor degree for years, the smart stuff is super overrated when you always have your phone anyway.
Fenix 8 and Epix Gen 3 surely years away???
I wore my Fenix 6 for two years will wear this Epix 2 for a couple years then see what the new tech look like at that time.
What are the additional benefits over Fenix 6 for 900 spend?
I can only think of training readiness and oled screen
@Commenter: Same reason I buy a new phone every year and have been through many different smart watches over the years. New tech is fun! If you buy it on sale and sell the old gear the change over costs are often pretty reasonable.
@noise36: Makes sense.
I cant bother posting online to sell so use it until I buy a new one. Change phones every three years.
@Commenter: Apart from the display type being OLED, having touchscreen on Epix 2 is very useful for maps (if you use them). Scrolling and zooming is not a massive exericise in sequentially pressing buttons like you're on the starship Enterprise….
Fenix 5x here 3 years old. Not a single scratch on the sapphire screen.
My 6 is the same.
Ditto with a 3HR sapphire here. Due an upgrade though.
same. only just replaced band last week. sapphire is indestructible and ive bashed it around a lot
still on my Fenix 5 non-sapphire. not single sratch too. can't justify the upgrade cos it still works like charm!
Chance of this being much cheaper in EOFY sales?
Waiting for the watch 4 pro from Huawei. Will put all other Android watches to shame in most departments.
Android and Apple watches are a totally different product to the Garmin units.
Can you please explain more?
Garmin is more of a exercise assistant with better battery. Less of the "smarts".
@mordinhoz: The Huawei has better sensors, battery, GPS etc, especially if you see the review on YouTube. Most accurate watch 2nd to Apple only.
@[Deactivated]: Is the Huawei gonna survive a ultramarathon?
@mordinhoz: I have no idea really. I saw reviews on you tube about gt3 pro and it has a lot more accuracy than Garmin in many departments. Battery life is in weeks. So waiting for 4 pro which is supposed to be better.
@[Deactivated]: may be you should watch garmin reviews on youtube?
@mordinhoz: I did compare them to Huawei watch but they have so many models. So confusing. Will eventually do that. Before buying.
@[Deactivated]: I assume you are talking about quantified scientist on youtube, he isnt doing watch reviews, only testing very narrow functions of the watch. Slightly better HR, GPS or battery doesn't make one watch better or worse its about the package. Huawei doesn't compare at all to Garmin as a sport or fitness tracking watch.
Apple watch has great HR accuracy for a wrist based device but anyone serious about HR uses a chest strap anyway which is more accurate than any Apple watch.
@noise36: You are correct. That's the channel. I have a Stratos 2 which I need to replace and did some basic research only. Saw Garmin and they were too expensive for what they do, so decided on Huawei.
Got mine today looks dark grey not black, have I been sent the wrong colour or is this just what black looks like?
Will any shop do a price beat for this?
Great watch, paid much more about 6 months after it came out. Mind you - new model has just been released so these are likely to get a bit cheaper down the track. Still been a great fitness watch for running for me tho.
