SEOFY20SEOFY22

Similar to the deal on the Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 4 (credit to @d0nkey), the Xiaomi Air Purifier 3H is also on a great sale. Chose this one as I didn't want the Negative Ion feature, and also the filters for this are cheaper and more easily available. There is also some commentary on Whirlpool about the filter being better on the 3H, YMMV.

  • 380 m³/h PM CADR
  • True HEPA filter
  • High-precision laser PM sensor
  • OLED touch screen display
  • APP+AI smart voice control*
  • A4 paper sized footprint*

I bought 2 of these from this seller, they were delivered the next day from couriers please, however both boxes were damaged. One unit is working fine but the other must have a broken cover sensor as will only display 'back cover open' even when closed and therefore won't work. Just sharing my experience, will update with the sellers resolution.

Couriers Please is one of the worst I've had the mispleasure of using.

      • +3

        https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/couriers-please

You're not the only one! Probably the worst in the business.. Ordered 2x packages from Amazon on the same day, both coming from the same place and 1x arrived last Tuesday from AusPost the other is still "delayed" with CouriersPlease which seems to be the case every single time!

      • +2

I used to call them "Couriers? Please!" because of how useless they were at their one job. But I found a new worse courier, Codexpress in Canberra, that Amazon insist on using for Amazon Prime for some reason (cheap, is my guess). Multiple videos from my doorbell of them just throwing packages and walking away, never ringing the bell, never actually taking any care with the packages.

      • Displeasure?

      • +1

Can second, third and fourth this and so on and on and on.

    • My current unit model 3 is not working due to "back cover open" error. I have used mine for 2 year. I don't thing it is broken. Could be fault sensor.
I could not figure out how to fix mine.

  • what’s wrong with the Negative Ion feature?

    • -1

Apparently the Xiaomi filters has been approved by some Californian group. It was in one of the other deals. Basically the level of ionisation on the filter is not harmful to people.

    • +7

Negative ions cling to dust/pollen/allergens. This function makes those particles drop and stick to surfaces - ideally away from the air you breathe. It's how the claim it's better for people with allergies came about. Unfortunately that sticking function also works when you breathe in those particles - they can stick and lodge into the surface of your lungs. In themselves negative ions aren't "bad" but combined with allergens… There are numerous studies which show increased respiratory tract irritation when using -ve ions esp for people who are already sensitive or have asthma. There are other ion technologies that use both +ve and -ve ions, which purport to destroy pathogens in the air (plasma tech) - this is supposedly less irritating. I'd give both a wide berth (or just turn it off).

      • +1

good to know, thanks, I will probably turn off the negative ion function on my Purifier 4

    • +1

I have the Xiaomi pedestal fan, which also has the same feature, which I kept in my bedroom during summer. I left it on basically all day & night on a low speed, with the negative ion feature turned on. Shortly after I got it, I noticed my nose was sore in the morning - sores on the inside of my nose, like unhealed scabs. They bled quite easy and I was a bit confused why they were appearing. After about 2 or so weeks of them not going away, I did some brief research into the negative ion feature and couldn't find any correlation, but shortly after I turned it off, the scabs went away. It may have been a coincidence, but I haven't tried turning it on since to check.

      • thanks for sharing, by any chance if you will test it again please share the result !

      • I've only heard bad things about the feature, not worth having it in my opinion. Hope everything healed ok.

  • Stack with eBay GCs & cashback for further discount?

    • Yes for GCs, no for cashback.

    • Best I can find are 3% off eBay GCs, bringing it down to $150, anyone know if there’s other eBay gc offers on now? Looking to buy 2-3.

    • +1

Yes stack with 10% Shopback cashback to get it down to $139

  • Another $10 for the 4 with an ioniser you can disable…

    • +1

The 3H filters are cheaper I think.

      • Any links for the filters? Are they on sales now? We got both 3H and 4 Pro at home needing replacements. Cheers

        • +3

The best deal for the genuine Xiaomi HEPA filter for the 3H at the moment is $49.99 at Kogan plus shipping (see the links posted down below by rekke). The genuine filter situation has been dire for over a year now, and I don't think it will improve much anytime soon. Occasional deals will get posted for ~$40 but they sell out pretty quickly.

    • you can disable the -ve ion feature on the 3H as well………..

      • +1

There's no negative ion feature on the Air Purifier 3H. It's only on the 4.

    • -2

Id rather just not have the feature at all. How do I know for 100% certain its turned off just because the LED screen says so? Just another feature that can go wrong in my opinion, what if it starts malfunctioing?

Also the filters are cheaper for the 3H making it a better deal for me personally

      • -1

You'll know because you are chronically ill all the time /s.

  • +1

Anyone integrated this with Home Assstant?

    • +1

yeah, there's a couple of great guide floating around. automatically turning on and off based on p2.5 is pretty sweet.

    • +1

Yes, it functions flawlessly with the Xiaomi Miio integration:
      https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/xiaomi_miio/

Have been using it for over a year now and love it. The PM2.5 sensor is pretty trash and doesn't detect much until it becomes very obvious, but that's often the case for cheap consumer machines like the Xiaomi 3H.

    • +1

Happy it works with HA. Grabbed this 3H and a 'Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 Compact' for the bedroom.

  • +1

    I'm pretty happy with mine.

My only issue is that the filter can't be cleaned and reused. I cleaned mine and it was as good as new but could only reuse it by doing a factory reset.

    • +7

      So…you could reuse it then?

      • By default no. It rejects the filter if you just replace it after cleaning.

But like I said, factory reset, set up the device as he then it works fine.

        Bit of a hassle

    • +2

you don't seem to need an air purifier at all

  • My OLED display has some pretty bad burn in lol. Device is about 3 years old.

  • +1

Issue is the filter , device is cheap but no deal for filters!

    • Are you sure you arent thinking about the Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 4 / 4 Pro? The same filter works across all the models except the 4/4 Pro, which is why I posted this deal for the 3H

    • +8

This. I don't know who downvoted you, but there is a dire supply issue for genuine Xiaomi 3H HEPA filters at reasonable prices. On the rare occasion that deals arrive, they are often sold out within an hour or so, so there's a large amount of demand from existing owners which can't be fulfilled, and there's always people disappointed at missing out:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/779740

The Xiaomi 3H is a good no-frills small/medium sized air purifier and I love it (and this post is a good deal), but until the genuine HEPA filter supply situation improves, I can't really recommend that people buy it at this time.

And I highly suggest that people DO NOT buy 3rd party no-name filters (i.e. these are typically the ones that don't mention "genuine" in their eBay/Amazon listing) as you can't trust them, they have never been tested by a lab.

[Update] the Kogan listing that rekke mentioned is a rare reasonably good deal, yes, and someone in another deal mentioned that they bought it and confirmed it was indeed the genuine Xiaomi HEPA filter:
      https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/xiaomi-mi-air-purifier-hepa-fil…

They usually sell for quite a bit more than $49.99, so that's why I think the supply situation is a serious issue. If anyone is really set on buying the Xiaomi 3H, then I'd suggest stocking up on some extra filters from Kogan now, as you don't know when the next ~$40 deal will be. Essentially, your only source for the genuine filters at the moment is Kogan, and the deals that @Clear shares every few months. If Kogan runs out of supply then you're pretty much screwed, unless you're willing to pay scalper prices.

      • +2

        Yeah , 100% agree.

The previous deal with around 400 supply was gone in less than few mins , i even put a comment there that either supplier saw the demand and cut the supply or scalpers cleared everything in a jiffy.
Biggest issue with 3H is the filter price , i used to be able to get for $35 RRP. Now only deal is kogan for 50 and scalpers are asking for 60-70
Waiting for next round of import , mid July hopefully , if i miss that only option is Kogan (if any left)

  • I finally caved and bought an air purifier…

Any recommendations for a small sized unit for a bedroom for example?

    • +1

The Xiaomi 3H is it, TBH — it's designed for small/medium rooms, you don't really want to go any smaller. This is the reason why the 3H is "poorly rated" in CHOICE tests, because it has a lower CADR than the bigger and more expensive machines. You can only get bigger and more powerful machines from here, but of course they also cost more.

      • +1

It's physically quite big to only be for a small to medium room. The IKEA fornuftig is a bit smaller, but only filters a quarter the rate, and isn't smart in any way… I'll have a look around, otherwise might pick up another 3H.

        • +2

The IKEA machine should be a solid choice too if you're willing to settle for a lower CADR, and since it's backed by a giant corporation the HEPA filter supply will be guaranteed for at least a few years so that's a big plus as well. Air purifiers are mostly about the filters, really — they're largely just a glorified fan that forces air through a filter in order to capture particulates.

Here is a great write-up on the IKEA air purifier, if anyone is interested. It's a good choice all-round if you're after something simple and widely available:
          https://dynomight.net/ikea-purifier/

Ignore the usual BS from commenters about it not being in CHOICE tests or rating poorly in their tests or whatever, you can't go wrong with most air purifiers as long as there is a steady supply of HEPA filters available.

          • +1

@deadpoet: That link was a good read, thanks. IKEA need to make the smart ones cheaper. I do like the idea of the IKEA one built into a side table

  • can't decide 3h or 4, any help

    • Maybe the 4 if you can get filters and are okay with having a negative ion generator (it can be turned off but you can only rely on the LED). I wasnt okay with either so went with the 3H as the filter seems to be the same across all other Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier models except the 4
