Welcome to the ultimate guide of Netflix subscriptions

Updates:

  • 27/06/23 2pm – Turkish Lira have crashed even more, so I've corrected all prices in this guide!
    • Original deal post rates: Basic TL₺63.99 (~A$4.06), Standard TL₺97.99 (~A$6.22), Premium TL₺130.99 (~A$8.31)
  • 07/07/23 2am – Updated FAQ section to include all error codes as a result of the 30-day local restriction lockout.
  • 08/07/23 11pm – Updated Instructions section to include a new sign up method via OlduBil's Turkish Virtual Mastercard (Instructions – Method #2), with screenshots (tested and confirmed). I'll be drafting another set of instructions to separate Method #1 (Part 2) as another sign up method via a Turkey phone number. Stay tuned!

You probably know by now - if I make a guide, best believe it's going to be good and better than the previous one. Please show some love and any comments, concerns, suggestions or feedback are welcome :)

This new guide has now been updated to include:

  • problems related to new subscriber sign-ups to Netflix Turkey. Please read the FAQ section for further clarification.
  • new statistics in regards to pricing
  • screenshots at each necessary step of the sign up process (yes, I unnecessaily spent a chunk of money to test the local region lockout and to obtain screenshots to better guide everyone through the sign up process! I hope this helps - please see Instructions Part 3 for these screenshots)

Note that due to a recent and continuing crash in the Turkish Lira currency, the TRY-AUD is hitting an all time low. All prices in this guide are current as of 27 June 2023.

Netflix Post History Notes
09/06/2023 - This post Netflix Region Lock
28/01/2023 Price Hike
22/10/2022 Price Hike
14/06/2022 Price Hike
01/10/2021

Similar to my last post, I'm resharing this guide after previous deal post expired due to Netflix imposing a lock region lock. Luckily, there are no more price hikes for now, after having the third price hike for Turkey within a 10 month period.

  • Turkey is no longer the cheapest country for a Netflix subscription on all tiers, after they increased prices multiple times (Example: Premium plan from TL₺54.99 to TL₺77.99 to TL₺93.99 to TL₺130.99 in a span of just over a year).
    • However, obtaining a Turkey-based Netflix Gift Card is extremely easy and effortless, making it the easiest and therefore cheapest country to sign up with.
  • Pakistan is the cheapest country for all Netflix plans, however, obtaining a Pakistan-based Netflix Gift Card to sign up is almost impossible, so avoid this path.
  • NEW!! Netflix Argentina is now ARS999 (A$6.10) for the Basic Plan and ARS2,399 (A$14.64) for the Premium Plan (in the last Netflix post, Argentina prices were ARS699 (A$4.27) for the Basic Plan and ARS1,899 (A$11.59) for the Premium Plan - that's a 42.9% and 26.3% increase, respectively). The Argentina Peso has dropped, but plans are still more expensive.

Please note: If you DO NOT have a Turkey number, please sign up via instructions Part 1 and then Part 3. Avoid doing Part 2

There are plenty of previous threads on users commenting their experience. Please read it if you are stuck. See here and here and here and here and here

Instructions – Method #1 (If you want Netflix to charge your Australian debit/credit card each month)

Please read the following instructions carefully.

Part 1 - Ensure you have your Australian mobile number and debit/credit card saved in your account

Complete either steps (a) or (b), depending on your current situation

a. If you currently have an Australian Netflix subscription:

  1. Make sure your Australian mobile number is saved and verified in your account. See this screenshot

  2. Make sure your current or new debit/credit card is saved and verified in your account. If your payment method is PayPal, remove this immediately and replace it will a debit/credit card.

  3. Once you’ve triple checked your mobile is added and verified, simply cancel your subscription and wait until the end of the renewal period (i.e. keep watching until the sub expires. Don’t let your sub go to waste since you’ve already paid for it). Once your subscription has expired, go to Part 2 or Part 3

b. If you DO NOT have a current Australian subscription:

  1. Sign up and subscribe to any Australian Netflix plan (preferably the lowest cost basic plan - don’t worry, you’ll get your money back). Do not use PayPal to sign up, it must be a debit/credit card.

  2. Once you’ve signed up, make sure your Australian mobile number is saved and verified in your account. See this screenshot

  3. Make sure your current or new debit/credit card is saved and verified in your account.

  4. Once you’ve triple checked your mobile is added and verified, go to Netflix Live Chat and tell them you “would like a full refund since you’ve changed your mind” - they usually don’t ask why but if they do make up some random excuse like “my sibling just signed up” or “you don’t want it anymore” etc. This should be a very fast step and take you only several minutes. The account cancellation will be effective immediately and the refund will arrive in a few hours or days

  5. Once your subscription has expired (should be immediate as you’ve cancelled it for a refund through live chat), go to Part 2 or Part 3

Part 2 - Signing up via Netflix Turkey (Direct Method - No Gift Cards - MOST LIKELY TO FAIL - AVOID)

Please ensure your subscription has completely ended/expired before starting Part 2. It has completely ended when you can no longer watch anything and Netflix asks you to resubscribe or restart your membership

  1. With VPN off, log into your Netflix account

  2. Activate a VPN service, turn it on and set it to Turkey (Istanbul is the largest city). There’s many free VPN’s if you don’t have a subscription to one. Here's a few great VPNs that work:

    Nord VPN: https://nordvpn.com/
    Express VPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/
    PureVPN: https://www.purevpn.com/
    Windscribe VPN: https://www.windscribe.com/
    ExpressVPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/

Note: Use chrome browser plugins for these VPNs where possible

Possible Problem: You use Windscribe VPN and set it to Turkey, but it defaults to one of the cities of Turkey that is not Istanbul.
Possible Solution: You want it to land in Istanbul, Turkey, so keep turning off and on the VPN until it lands in Istanbul. Confirm it’s Istanbul by refreshing this page: https://whatismyipaddress.com/

  3. Open Netflix on a new tab and proceed to Netflix to choose your plan:

    https://www.netflix.com/

  4. Proceed by adding your Australian credit/debit card as the backup payment method

Possibly working cards from: 28 Degrees, ANZ Rewards, Citibank Debit, Macquarie

Possible Problem: If it asks for a Turkish mobile number, you will have to find a working one so they can send you verification. AFAIK, there is no way bypassing this and you will need to sign up via Part 3

Part 3 - Signing up via Netflix Turkey (Using Gift Cards if Part 2 Fails) - EASIEST METHOD

Please ensure your subscription has completely ended/expired before signing up to this deal (i.e. when you can no longer watch anything and Netflix asks you to resubscribe or restart your membership)

  1. Purchase a Turkey Netflix Gift Card (any value is fine, even if it's not enough to cover the full month)

Note: Choose a reputable seller and make an account so you have a record of the purchases if anything goes wrong. I recommend Turgame (I've bought Turkey Apple GC's from there and they have fast delivery (at night time AEST), they charge the same price as the gift card value and the payment gateway fee is very low) or g2a

  2. Once you’ve received your gift card, it’s time to redeem your gift card and sign up to Netflix Turkey at the same time. Make sure from Part 1 that you have not logged out. You must stay logged in to your Australian account. If you’ve logged out, please log back in now with VPN turned off (Logging into your Australian account with a VPN on gives an error)

  3. Activate a VPN service, turn it on and set it to Turkey (Istanbul is the largest city). There’s many free VPN’s if you don’t have a subscription to one. Here's a few great VPNs that work:

    Nord VPN: https://nordvpn.com/ (recommended, paid)
    Urban VPN: https://www.urban-vpn.com/ (recommended, free)
    Windscribe VPN: https://www.windscribe.com/ (recommended, free)
    Express VPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/
    PureVPN: https://www.purevpn.com/

Note: Use chrome browser plugins for these VPNs where possible

Possible Problem 1: If you use Windscribe VPN and set it to Turkey, sometimes it defaults to random serves and therefore random cities of Turkey that will give you the wrong pricing (ideally, you want Istanbul). In this case, keep turning off and on the VPN until it switches to a different server/location. Confirm the location by refreshing this page: https://whatismyipaddress.com/. If this fails, change your VPN provider.

  4. With VPN on, open a new tab and go to the following Netflix site to redeem your gift card See this screenshot:

    https://www.netflix.com/tr-en/redeem

Possible Problem: On the plan selection page, the currency is not in Turkish Lira
Possible Solution: The problem is due to your VPN. Double check or change your VPN if needed

Possible Problem: When redeeming the Turkey Netflix Gift Card, it gives an error (code invalid, etc)
Possible Solution: The problem is due to your VPN. Double check or change your VPN if needed. If after several VPNs and this issue still occurs, try to reach out to your place of purchase due to them possibly issuing you an incorrect code

  5. Follow the prompts of the sign up process. This screenshot will show the first page after applying the gift card. Click "Next" to land on this page. Choose the plan you want, then click "Next" to land on the payment page in step 6

  6. Proceed by choosing a backup payment method. Be careful with this step and look at the screenshot!

  • If you did Part 1 instructions correctly then your payment method is already saved within your account - in this case, press "skip this step" at the bottom. On the next page, click "Next" (see screenshot). Now Netflix will want to confirm your details to make sure it is correct as per (this screenshot). Double check, tick the checkbox and start your membership!

  • Otherwise, if for some reason you haven't done Part 1 correctly or your debit/credit card has expired, you will have to add a new debit/credit card (see screenshot). Beward this may prompt you for a Turkey number verification (which I guarantee you don't have otherwise you would have done Part 2) - if this happens, please complete Part 1 again (see fix below)

Possible Problem: After entering your debit/credit card details, it asks for a Turkish mobile number
Possible Solution: Two causes for this. Cause (1): the problem is due to your VPN - Double check or change your VPN if needed, then go back to step 4. Cause (2): This is because you've entered a new debit/credit card. In this case, please click back on your browser and avoid entering a new card by pressing "skip this step" at the bottom. If this option does not appear, please restart Part 1 and ensure you save the card you wish to use as a backup payment.

Possible Problem: My debit/credit cards keep declining, and I'm unable to subscribe
Possible Solution: It's likely the problem is due to your VPN. Double check or change your VPN if needed and restart the whole process. However, if VPN is not the problem, you can continue to subscribe without a backup payment method (i.e. start your subscription with just the Gift Card you bought), and then afterwards you can contact live chat and tell them you need to update your payment method by asking them to send a payment form popup (this will allow you to add a credit/debit card and save it into the account). If the agent refuses or has no idea what you’re trying to say, end the chat and start a new one.

Note: If you bought a gift card that has a higher value than your selected plan, you’ve just used your gift card to pay for the first month, as well as partially for the second month. For the second month, Netflix will deduct the remaining of the gift card, and the remaining balance will come out of the credit/debit card you’ve inputted, and from thereon each month Netflix will keep charging your bank at those rates (be aware many banks like Commonwealth Bank have a small international transaction fee but this is only a few cents extra. Suncorp and Latitude Platinum have no international fees). Besides this, you should be saving >$100 AUD each year at least ($200 saving annually for the premium plan)

  1. You’re done! Turn off your VPN and enjoy your subscription :)

Instructions – Method #2 (If you want Netflix to charge your OlduBil Turkish Virtual Mastercard each month)

Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard Required! If you do not have a Turkey-based Virtual Mastercard, see how to get one here in the instructions section (Part 1 and Part 2). You can use it forever, with many deals to come!

Please ensure your subscription has completely ended/expired before signing up to this deal (i.e. when you can no longer watch anything and Netflix asks you to resubscribe or restart your membership).

  1. Log in to your Australian Netflix account, or sign up for an account. Make sure you log in with VPN turned off (logging into your Australian account with a VPN gives an error).

  2. Activate a VPN service, and set it to Turkey (Istanbul is the largest city). There’s many free VPN’s if you don’t have a subscription to one. Here's a few great VPNs that work:

    Nord VPN: https://nordvpn.com/ (recommended, paid)
    Urban VPN: https://www.urban-vpn.com/ (recommended, free)
    Windscribe VPN: https://www.windscribe.com/ (recommended, free)
    Express VPN: https://www.expressvpn.com/
    PureVPN: https://www.purevpn.com/

Note: Use chrome browser plugins for these VPNs, where possible.

Possible Problem: If you use Windscribe VPN and set it to Turkey, sometimes it defaults to random serves and therefore random cities of Turkey that will give you the wrong pricing (ideally, you want Istanbul). In this case, keep turning off and on the VPN until it switches to a different server/location. Confirm the location by refreshing this page: https://whatismyipaddress.com/. If this fails, change your VPN provider.

  3. With VPN on, refresh the main netflix webpage. Alternatively, go to this link:

    https://www.netflix.com/tr-en/

Possible Problem: On the plan selection page, the currency is not in Turkish Lira
Possible Solution: The problem is due to your VPN. Double check and/or change your VPN if needed

  4. Click on "Restart Membership" and follow the prompts of the sign up process. Click "Next and then select the plan you want. Click "Next"and then click "Credit or debit card". Enter your OlduBil Virtual Mastercard details, full name, tick the T&Cs declaration, and then click "Start Membership".

  5. At this stage you're done. Don’t enter anything on this page. Netflix will ask some random questions (just to set up your account). After that, your account will be complete, and you can enjoy your subscription!

FAQ

Q: I just signed up and when I go to watch something I get the following error: "Your account can't be used in this location"
A: It seems like every new sign-up to Netflix Turkey is subject to a local restriction lockout. This can take anywhere from as little as several days to 30 days. There are many reports from OzBargainers and others reporting this error disappears within 30 days. During this lockout restriction, you can still watch shows and movies, but you must use a Turkey VPN to do so (otherwise the error will pop up). Since this is only temporary, it shouldn't be a problem after 30 days or so, andthis small hassle is well worth the savings.

Q: Will I need to turn VPN on everytime I watch Netflix?
A: No! You no longer need to have VPN on every time you watch a show or movie. VPN is only required for sign up. After sign up, use Netflix without a VPN and you will have access to the Australian Netflix library.

Q: I want to watch a show/move from another region or country. Can I do this?
A: If you want to watch a show or movie that is region locked to another country, you can do so by setting your VPN on your phone, laptop or PC to that country to watch it. Yes, you will need a VPN for this

Q: I got charged a different rate compared to the prices on this post. What happened?
A: Due to foreign exchange rates constantly fluctuating, prices will differ by several cents each month

Q: I have an existing Netflix subscription, can I use the same email?
A: Definitely! See Part A

Q: My bank blocked my payment, what do I do?
A: Some banks block 1st attempt and then text to confirm it's you. Once you reply, 2nd attempt may work. If after several attempts it does not work, just go through the Gift Card method and avoid the pain

Q: How do I update to a new debit/credit card?
A: You can contact live chat and ask them to send a payment form popup (this will allow you to add a credit/debit card and save it into the account). If the agent refuses or has no idea what you’re trying to say, end the chat and start a new one.

Q: Is signing up to Netflix Turkey going to affect my Netflix library/catalogue?
A: After setting up this sub, you may or may not notice the Netflix catalogue may be weird with brand new shows, etc… It might not even change anything, but if it does change, your Netflix catalogue will adjust to what you’re watching and soon it will look like nothing ever happened

Q: GST/VAT and Tax related questions?
A: See here. Don't worry, there really isn't any tax you need to worry about.

  • In your Xbox guide you say Odubil is no longer working. Does this mean method 2 in part 3 here no longer works?

    • +1

People have been transferring despite my warning and they're all getting their transfers. YMMV, proceed at risk.

  • I just followed the steps… worked flawlessly… Thanks ISmellPennies!

Question… if the title is not available in Turkey you cannot watch up until the 30th day?

    • +2

No worries. And sadly, no you can't

    • What do you mean by this "If a title is not available in Turkey you cannot watch up until the 30th day?"

  • +1

From my previous attempt at trying this 1 or 2 years ago, when they blocked my CC, I tried every other CC and it didn't work. Not only that, when i gave up and just went back to Australia, the cards itself were all blocked, even when I opened up a brand new Netflix account. I had to use gift cards for a bit then the cards worked again last month. So don't try all your cards once it starts failing.

  • +1

+1 here my wise card not working anymore

    • Gifts card is the only way for now until they block it!

  • another issue of card failure, netflix cancelled my account and asking me to re-start.
Would geo lock be placed again for another 28 days ?

    • and Geo Lock is placed again.

  • +1

    @I Smell Pennies

Update: my initial card got declined and when I tried to switch cards asked for turkey number

Bought 3x200 TRY gift cards from g2a. VPN (turkey)>opened Netflix account>redeemed all 3 gift cards>I’m good til December>Netflix working as usual (not geo blocked)

Cheers! (Not sure why the others just load up the gift cards? It’s so quick)

    • +1

Ya, I did the same. I think this guide needs to be updated to reflect this recent crack down from Netflix.

    • Got exactly the same problem, 2 months gone by, everything was good, suddenly received email saying that last payment didn't work.

I couldn't update my payment as Netflix will require a Turkey phone number. Then I tried Chat with them, they send my the payment form but I tried 3 different cards, all failed, the operator mentioned something about OTP and asked me to contact my bank…

looks like gift card is my only option for now

      • This does not bode well for me with my second card payment coming up on 17th Aug.

        Which card was it?

        • +1

I was using a CBA card, then tried the Wise card, neither worked

    • Think the panic buying has started, 200TL cards now OOS. My payment went through on the 28th, will see how many others share card failures before i jump on the bandwagon too

  • -1

I know hundreds (at the very least) currently have Netflix via Turkey. It is too early to tell if this is an isolated or widespread issue, and/or whether it only affects certain cards.

As for me, mine is still working fine with the most recent charge 15 days ago (Suncorp debit). My subscription has been running for over a year.

I will update this post where I deem necessary, but AFAIK, sign up is still working as per usual from both methods.

    • my payment gone through 1 time before Netflix stopped accepting it, it's a CBA card. During my conversation with Netflix support, he pointed the issue back to the bank and asked me to contact my bank

I asked him to try 2 of my different cards, Coles Master card, and Wise Visa debit card, none worked neither

    • +1

      @ISmellPennies

I (almost) had the same issues as others have reported, but I may have found a loophole:

Specifically, my subscription commenced on the 1 July with a TRY 200 gift card, on the Premium Plan. I was NOT charged on the 1st August, even though I had a properly working NAB debit card (uBank) as the backup payment method. Instead, Netflix Account portal stated that my subscription is paid until 15th August.

While being connected to NordVPN (Turkish servers):
I logged in to Netflix Account. I went ahead and changed my "Billing Day" under Account-> "Change billing day" option to a date after the last day that my account was in credit (in my case I changed to the last day of the month).

The system then stated that it will deduct approx. TRY55 from my account. I proceeded to accept, and it FAILED, stating that my payment method is not supported.

Then I tried again, same steps, but this time it SUCCEEDED. Account is now paid via my credit card, and is in credit until end of August. My card was also charged the amount successfully in AUD ($3.xx).

I was not asked for a Turkish mobile number.
I no longer have the account lock (not locked since 30th July) and can watch Netflix without a VPN.

  • +1

can confirm i have the same issue as above. Payment failed from upBank card. Going to buy gift cards when i get home. unless anyone comes up with a better solution

  • Hi all. My experience is the same
    28 Degrees nolonger works
Unable to update to another card, but reading here looks like no point'
Have bought a 100TL giftcard and it worked
Then bought 5 more of the 200TL, and its not letting me add those gift cards to my account
There is a danger of loading up on gift cards
It could be you can't redeem one after another so soon, so going to wait a day before trying again

    • I did this too. Only let me add 2 though. So currently sitting with 3 200TL gift cards lol

    • +1

I had the same problem, retry a few times, turn on and off VPN, and if I'm not mistaken, only when VPN was off, my gift cards worked

    • Any update on how you went? Just had my card blocked and looking to go via GC

      • +1

See my update below, It went through :) but needed assistance of an agent through Live Chat

      • +1

I managed to load 2x 100TL and 3x 200TL in one go today

  • +1

Those with 28 Degree card. Have you try to ring the bank up and ask them not to block Netflix payment?

Might worth a try. Since the Latitude hack they might be blocking oversea especially you live in Australia but got charge from TURKEY. Sound suss lol.

    Just my 2 cents

    • It won't be Latitude, i'm pretty sure its more account and card location based. the last time I attempted this, all the cards I put in where blocked by Netflix itself. And after that, the cards also would not work on a brand new account as its flagged. When I went back to Aust Netflix and asked them to remove the block, they couldnt do it and I had to use gift cards for over a year

  • +1

Okay update. For anyone who loaded up on gift cards and could only apply 2 of them, if you enter a chat with them (I did this with VPN on) and say that you have x amount of gift cards that you are unable to receive, they will as for the number and corresponding value any apply them on your behalf. I just did this and am paid up until May 2024 now.

    Any questions hit me up

    • I did this and they helped, it works. Thanks for this
It's a little scary as you wonder if they are suspicious of so many multiple cards
But hey it's done for now

    • This is through the Australian netflix chat I assume? They have no issues with applying the turkish gift cards?

      • Unsure, it's the default chat with VPN on when I did it. Wish it could just use my credit card

      • Yeah not sure where they think i was coming from as i had the VPN on

    Hi Everyone

This is no more working and get the error message like this.

    Pardon the Interruption

Your account cannot be used in this location. For more info go to help.netflix.com

I have followed the steps 1 and 3 on same day with Turkey Gift card from G2A. But when I switch off VPN and try to access Netflix its throwing error now. I have asked to cancel the subscription sad that Ozbargain trick failed me 1st time ever.

All good team, Netflix is GeoLocking in Turkey and its official!!

    Thanks
    Vishwa

    • Did you wait the 28-30 days? the geolocking is normal and drops off after then > The first FAQ section of the post

      • Oops I have not noted this FAQ. I have deactivated my sub thinking it wont work. Will reactivate now and see after 30 days but I can confirm its working fine with VPN on to Turkey

  • +3

I waited until my subscription expired. I set up the Oldubil virtual credit card. I used Urban VPN and choose the premium plan in Turkish lira. However at the last step it wouldn't let me skip the turkish mobile number.
    "Let's confirm your account
To start your membership, we’ll send you a text message with a one-time code to confirm your account. Message and data rates may apply."

Instead of "next" button now there is only "text me"button. So not able to proceed to restart the subscription without turksih mobile even when I use Oldubil turkish virtual credit card.

    • I have the same exact issue. In fact, same whether I use Oldubil or an Aussie card - still wants to text me like a clingy gf. On a Turkish number only of course.

      • In the end I got a 200TL netflix giftcard from g2a. It accepted it at first attempt, with Urban vpn turned on. I have about 69TL credit left in my account.

      • Same! I had some leftover money on the Oldubil account from redeeming the Spotify trick and now after I enter my mastercard details, it requires a Turkey number to confirm the account before I can restart my membership. Too bad I missed the window for this trick! I'm too lazy to buy giftcards (and it sounds like that is getting more difficult to make it work as well).

  • From VPN Turkey I wasn't able to change my payment details to an ING direct card but a different behaviour with my NAB Direct Card in which I got asked for the turkey mobile number, so I went to the chat instead and asked for the form popup, I could not update to ING card either but when I tried with NAB again them with them on the popup they, it went through.
Just need to wait to see if they block my account in the near future now. :)

    • This is good to hear, I hope that works as I have a nab CC as well

    • Was successful in having a charge initiated on my NAB card as well (uBank), when I changed to a different "billing day" within my Account in Netflix (and connected to Turkey via VPN).

First attempt failed (unsupported payment method error), but on second try it worked, and my card was charged in AUD as well. Account is now paid until last day of the month of August.

I will call uBank on Monday to make sure they allow ongoing charges from Turkey on my card. It may indeed be an issue with Visa fraud protection…

  • For the people who got asked to get a Turkey mobile number and has no success in getting the popup payment screen why don't you try Pingme app?

I have not use it yet but a few members used it successfully.

    • Was tempted to try, but you have to pay - not sure how much as it doesn't tell you without registering.

        • Ok, this worked for me, thanks heaps @mt2000 and @xdpx!

@I Smell Pennies: This might be a good solution to add to the instructions for users facing the Turkish mobile number issue! And thank you so much again for this guide, you saved me heaps of $$$! :)

  • I am stuck on part 3 of this. When redeeming my turkish gift card, it asks me to what email address. Is that the email address for my existing netflix account? If i enter that, it says wrong country. Or am I supposed to setup a turkish netflix account? IF so, how do I get me gift card across to my existing account?

    • Could this be because my current subscription is notnyet expired?

      • Once your subscription has expired, go to Part 2 or Part 3

  • I was sent an email today saying my card payment failed, and I had to re-enter the CCV, and now it asks for my phone number. Do you guys have any solution for this or we have to go to the gift card method?

  • Another happy customer, thanks OP!

  • Hi OP,

Thank you for the post. I was excited and already in Part 3 when it asked me to update the expiry date on my saved credit card details.

Would be really good to mention that issue as early as Part1 a. Even though you're credit card details saved (expiry dates) have expired, provided it's the same number, Netflix won't invalidate it and you don't need to update it and you can continue on with your subscription. But once you membership expires, you need to update it. Hope that makes sense.

I was only able to update it by restarting the membership (at least for just 1 month). Customer service can't update it too because my account was already closed. So I'll wait for 1 month and try this again.

    Thanks for your help.

  • my first payment was meant to be 2nd august where my region lock was meant to be lifted, payment was declined as people mentioned above.
i've added another turkish gift card. But my account is still region locked. I can watch with turkish vpn turned on, but doesnt work with vpn turned off.

  • Has anyone tried speaking to live chat to get the region lock lifted early?

  • My card has also been blocked this month, so purchased some guards for Turgame, 1st 2 attempts failed so I used the gpay option, card debited and then I have been logged out and unable to log back in. Password reset also didn't get me back in…I have used them many times before…

Update: gift cards came in email but still unable to login to my Turgame account.. Strange

  • Another data point just tried to purchase a 200TL from Turgame and it failed on payment. G2A paid fine via Paypal. Card applied to account no problem

  • I got an error, "We were unable to process your last payment. Please update your payment information to continue enjoying Netflix."
My account was put on hold, and I can't update my payment. Every time I tried to update the payment and it asked to verify using a text message, it says "Sorry, but we are unable to complete that action right now. Please try again later."

coles mastercard also was unable to process the most recent payment, cannot update payment method as it asks for a Turky mobile number.

The solution is to buy gift cards and load up your account.

I use wise card to convert TL easily, then openned VPN and bought gift cards from Turgame, then loaded up my netflix account with no problem, now I'm put to Feb 2024.

Some people say if can't load too much gift cards at once, well I just redeemd 2x200 cards each day for 3 days and didn't have any problem, you don't want to load up too much balance anyway.

    • No geolocking lock when Netflix renewed by gift card? Someone above had geo locking again

      • Only locked because they let their sub expire and had to restart it. I've exclusively used giftcards since july and only the initial lockout. I prefer giftcards anyway.
For clarity 1 charge of 130.99 when I started, 1 of 69.01 when that month was up and another charge of 130.99 for the current month. 669.01 in credit. Good till end Jan 2024

        • Does it count as 'expiry' if the card payment fails and then I load up with a gift card? Still hoping I slip through the cracks 😂

        • im all loaded up til 2nd May, im really hoping the geolocking thing doesnt start again when it starts charging to my credit lol!

  • Hi @I Smell Pennies,

Just a quick question. I forgot to add family members before signing up with the Turkey VPN.

Now am being hit with the "looks like you're in a different country from the family manager" prompt when accepting the invite. Is there any way around this without jeopardising my active subscriptions?

    Cheers!

  • My 28Degrees card got hacked and cancelled, now I can't enter another card without it asking for a Turkish phone number. Can't find a free SMS virtual number.

    Any ideas?

    • Read description.

Q: How do I update to a new debit/credit card?

      • Thanks, look like it worked okay!

  • I got the same error today as others - my card payment didn't go through. This was to be my first charge to my credit card (Citi mastercard).

I used pingme to generate a Turkish number in order to validate my card, but the netflix website kept giving me an error when I typed in the phone number, saying "something went wrong…".

Went on online chat and he refused to allow me to update card details within the chat (asked me to go to the website). He also asked me a bunch of questions like "where are you located" and "where was the account created".

In the end, I just bought a gift card via G2A for now, but I'm still keen to find out how we can get a credit card to stick if someone figures it out.

    • geolocking didnt restart when you applied the new GC?

      • I only just saw this message now and coincidentally, today is the 30th day from when I first signed up and my geolocking has been lifted when I checked this morning (geolock was still in place when I checked yesterday).

So to answer your question - no my geolocking period did not restart when I redeemed the new gift card.

  • My credit card is expiring this month, and I need to update details for the new card's expiry date etc.

Q: How do I update to a new debit/credit card?
A: You can contact live chat and ask them to send a payment form popup (this will allow you to add a credit/debit card and save it into the account). If the agent refuses or has no idea what you’re trying to say, end the chat and start a new on

Does a VPN set to Turkey have to be used at this step? Thanks!

ps ISP -awesome work by you in this thread.

  • Thanks @I Smell Pennies, works for me after 30 day lock out :)

  • Hi, thank you ISP for all your effort with the posts.

Like everyone else, seems like credit card locations are being cracked down so unable to use that anymore.

I used a gift card last month from Turgame and it worked fine, however I can't seem to redeem my new gift card for this month.
I have tried 2 cards (1 from Turgame, 1 from G2A), both declined.
I have tried several VPNs (Windscribe, UrbanVPN, Surfshark) and used them together as well.

Nothing has helped, as I am always asked to complete 5+ Captchas, and then it gives me an error code.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    • Same thing happenned with me as well.. i had to wait for 3 days before my netflix GC from turguard got accepted by netflix.. kept throwing on errors and was not able to redeem the Gc.. maybe we have to wait for it to be activated? I Did not contact support from turgaud and netflix.

  • Is there anyone since the 5th Aug that had their saved cc gone through ok? Wondering if it's a blanket ban that started happening or just the unlucky few

    • My CC got rejected this month, I contacted support - wasn't asked about phone number/location.
Recieved popup to add new card details, but agent said my card was declined as no number associated.

I believe it is a blanket ban for all international cards.

  • I got the "Your payment was unsuccessful" email today with my cc. Went back to gift cards 😔

Pakistan is the most cost-effective country on a cost-per-month basis. At just USD 1.72, $3.06, and $4.20 per month for a basic, standard, and premium subscription, Pakistan’s prices win hands down. And when we consider its great library selection, Pakistanis get a great deal for their Netflix streaming service - as per this article

    • Good luck signing up for that from Australia

    • Yes, already mentioned in the post

Pakistan is the cheapest country for all Netflix plans, however, obtaining a Pakistan-based Netflix Gift Card to sign up is almost impossible, so avoid this path.

  • I've had no problems using an Amex Card - my payment date is usually 15th and with all the people reporting they are having issues, so yesterday I changed my billing date to the last day of the month. It worked, I got this email:
Success! Your Netflix billing day has been changed.

    Prorated amount paid today
    TL 42.25
    Next billing date
    31 August, 2023

  • My 28Degrees card had to be replaced so my payment failed whilst waiting for a new card. I followed the instructions and requested the pop up payment screen and used my Macquarie debit card. The rep said the payment went through.

So I don't believe there's any blanket ban on foreign cards.

  • My first Macquarie CC payment was due to go through on Monday but I received failed payment msg as per other posts. I topped up with a couple of G2A gift cards and Netflix account now active again until Sep 20th, but I am still region locked although it has been 32 days since I signed up using Steps 1 and 3 in this guide. Does this mean my failed CC payment has set my region lock back to day 1 again or could it just be taking longer than 30 days?!

  • It's day 28(signed up July 11th) for me & the region lock OVER!!

Now just need to hope the next billing payment in 3 days is made from my oldubil account.

Thanks i smell pennies, you are a champion!!

    • Can you please let us know if there any other fees when netflix debits into the oldubil account? I had to pay 50tl on the commission fee on my first payment.. cheers

      • sure mate.

I have a 365 sub payment coming out tomorrow from the oldubil account, so i should know then if they charge me a commission. Reading through the limits & fees section though it says the bill payment is fee free.

        • Yeah my oldubil account has 1900odd TL in it, so the charge would be from the merchant(microsoft & then Netflix).

My understanding was the commission was only for top up of funds into the oldubil account. It's my first go with a recurring sub though, so i'm not 100% sure on the fees.

      • +1

The only fees taken by OlduBil are when you top your VCC up via another bank account.

Netflix is simply debiting the $ amount (according to your plan) from your OlduBil VCC. Think of it like a direct debit.

        • Thank you kangadrew for confirming

      • There was no fee at all, just as KangaDrew said, it was a straight transaction.

    • +1

Could you update me on if the Oldubil charge worked for you? Mines coming up and just got unblocked today as well.

      • All good mate. Just charged today, 130.99TL Netflix account says next billing date is September 11th 2023.

        • Thanks for letting me know, glad to hear that's still an option!

  • On my ccard statement it says
    "Netflix.com(via lyzico) istanbul TUR"

Not the normal "Netflix.com nld, Turkish lira"

Could this why ppl are getting rejected ? Different payment company Netflix using ?

  • @I Smell Pennies - I cannot seem to update my account after 1 month, the card keeps getting rejected, i have tried macquarie bank debit card, is only option to buy gift cards now?

    • @rainingmarch hey there. I'm not sure what's the issue exactly with Netflix declining some people's cards here. Mine is still working fine for over a year now. If you can't get it to update, unfortunately GCs may be the only option moving forward.

      • Just happened to mine as well, NAB card can't process, forcing me to update payment method (prompts a turkish number verification). I'm not sure what to do

  • +1

Hey ISP, just wanted to say a massive thank you 🙌
Signed up, super easy. Waiting out the lockout period now.

I've used your YouTube, Crunchyroll & YouTube Premium deals so far. You sir, are a hero 👏
