hasnt the series S frequently been under $400? not really worth the extra hundred for forza IMO
edit: the deal actually is $399, OP might need to update

    • +1

Has been $379 a few times over the last year. Most deal posts are when it hits below $400

    • Was a smidge over $300 in last year's black friday at good guys with cashrewards and GG store cash factored in
      .

  • +3

It’s $399 and wouldn’t think it’s a deal for $799 with forza which is on game pass

    • +1

The DLC isn't included in Game Pass and those two expansions together cost around $50 or more.

      • So…. Not a deal. Normal price

        • Yeah I get ya. Still cheaper for someone that doesn't have or want Game Pass though.

  • +4

It's Forza Horizon, not Forza (Motorsport, which is the one usually called Forza)

    • Changed. It's all Forza to me.

  • +16

XSX came out over 2½ years ago. I'm surprised there hasn't been talks of a slimmer model or model with 2TB storage. The expandable storage prices are a crime.

  • +7

Neither of those prices are good let alone a bargain.

    • Usually 20% off would count as a bargain and look at post history for Xbox series S. Most are at the $399 mark.

    • -5

That’s just ridiculous. The current cheapest price from any recognised outlet is currently $488 for the series s. How is $399 not a good price?

      • +2

Past deals beat this series X price by a lot. It's not a bargain. The series S is like $388 with the fortnite, fall guys and rocket league dlcs

        • Where can I find that $388 package? Not coming up on any search I'm doing.

  • -1

I've been looking at Xbox prices because of Diablo 4, and I can't justify paying even $350 for Xbox Serie S, where its use is limited (e.g. can't play any discs).

I see on the FB marketplace that used Series S can be had for around $250, even local Cash Converters sell them for below $280. I might consider it at this price, but I'm still unsure if it's worth it.

P.S. I have Xbox Ultimate Pass mostly playing on PC but I bought a used XBO for playing Diablo 4 deal published a few days ago (i.e. Ultimate version for $45). Looking to eventually upgrade to XSX, may be Series S if I find it for below $200 used.

    • +1

For a parent, the Series S is the best value Fortnite machine you can buy. Not suitable for everyone.

      • Fair enough. I agree it's great for specific use cases, but just not for everyone.

  • +1

I'm a simple man, when I see the Series S, I upvote it.

    • +1

Should also inform people you have a Series X as well.

      • +2

idk if I'm missing something, but sure, why not, I have an X in the lounge, an S in the bedroom, and couldn't be happier with both.

        • I sold my XSX but I couldn't resist the $45 Diablo IV Ultimate deal so now I have to jump back in to the Xbox ecosystem. What do you like about the Series S? I was thinking of getting one because $399 is cheap but I don't like how I miss out on 4K gaming.

          • +1

@Guybrush57: Everything I like about the X, specifically quick resume and the upgraded loading time. It's also small enough that I often find myself throwing it in the glove box if we're ever dogsitting for the mother in law, staying in a hotel, visiting family, etc. Like sure, you don't need to bring it, but it's so effortless to tag along, why not. I'm tired, if you actually want reasons to get psyched on it, hit me up tomorrow lol.

It can do 4K, but majority of the time won't so I won't pretend it does. I never thought I'd a frame rate whore, but given the chance, I choose a steady FPS over higher res any day of the week, so 4K is just another buzzword to me tbh.

            • @TheDukeOfNukem: Wakey wakey, hands off etc

I hope you had a good rest and feel full of beans today. Psych me up for the Series S.

        • Wouldn't you be just a little happier with two XSX?

          • +1

@AustriaBargain: Nope. I like the look of the S, and I like how it's just that teensy bit small enough that I can throw it in the glove box without thinking whenever I'm going somewhere for the night.

            • -5

@TheDukeOfNukem: So even if I offered you an XSX in exchange for your XSS no strings attached except for the condition you don't sell it and buy another XSS, you wouldn't take me up on it?

              • @AustriaBargain: The only reason I'd swap it, was because of the inherent extra value if I was to ever sell it. In terms of keeping it, no, I would want one of each.

I don't have the Xbox storage card though. I do have an old 200gb MicroSD I use to bounce the odd game across from one another if I can't be bothered waiting to download though.

          • +1

            @AustriaBargain: Not really, because:

            • Series S is more compact (he has already given you the examples).
            • It more fun to have 2 different toys.
            • He has Microsoft expansion storage card for XBox Series S|X.

One Series X and one Series S have more flexibility.

        • +2

          an S in the bedroom

  • -1

Wow $399 for a current gen console? Is there a catch? S is just a disc-less version right? (I'm a PC gamer, can you tell?)

    • +3

      Xbox Series X: 3.8GHz CPU, 16GB GDDR6 RAM, 12 TFLOPS GPU (52 CUs at 1.825GHz)
      Xbox Series S: 3.6GHz CPU, 10GB GDDR6 RAM, 4 TFLOPS GPU (20 CUs at 1.565GHz)

Series S doesn't have the UHD blu-ray drive and only has 512GB SSD (and some of that storage is reserved for OS). Note that OS also takes about 2GB of RAM so Series S' VRAM for GPU is more like 8GB.

      • -1

Also forgot to mention Series S is only 1440P and not 4k like the series X

        • +2

It is designed for 1440p or 1080p gaming, but for a small number of less demanding games, Series S can technically do 4K:

Crysis Remastered do it in the Quality Mode (4K 30 fps). Ori and the Will of the wisps also has 2 modes, 4K60 vs 1080p120.

Another aspect of Series S is some people use it to run game emulators. 4K is technically possible for some of those emulators.

        • +1

"Only" 1440p lol. Here I am gaming with a 1680x1050 monitor… (not even full HD)

    • -1

Everything about the Series S is a catch.

      • The biggest catch is still the lack of a disc drive, especially when you have hundreds of old games you potentially miss out on playing. If they allowed some way to download soft versions of games you had, or release a version with a drive, I would buy one tomorrow

  • So Xbox x has 4K as I finally have jumped i over 4K tvs I’m on the look out for a good deal on 4K player. Or maybe I should spend a bit more and get the xbox x.
I already have a xbox one and to of games so I’m all good for playing xbox one games on xbox x.
But what’s the lowest the xbox x has been?
I have been waiting since release for price drops but don’t think it’s moved that much or i could be wrong.
I did the same years back with the Xbox one waited till it dropped in price and got it then.

    • The xbox one s will play 4k bluray, if that's what you have

      • I take I have the older Xbox one I can’t even remember when I purchased it lol but when I go on general tv and display options and look at display shows 1080p or 720p see no 4K option

        • If you have the OG xbox one (the "fat") then it won't do 4k movies I don't think, however there is an additional option, buy a second hand xbox one s on the cheap, you can probably pick one up for around the $100 mark or so, and you can sell the one you have so it will be a very small difference, if all you want to do is try out 4k movies

          • @Jackson: But i believe getting a dedicated 4K player was better as this is just upscale with Xbox and I think dedicated 4K player does more.
I did see that even though 5k been out for number of years there was slim pickings of players to buy and or very few different manufacturers ie sometimes I like to get same names players for tv’s I own ie I have a Samsung tv to set up and tlc.

Not sure what you mean about og xbox but can’t see myself buying another Xbox with 4K compatibility ie s series which has it, yes maybe if new and very cheap.
My current Xbox one still going strong and to be honest when Xbox x drops which I don’t see happening anytime soon then I grab it.
But to be honest if I got the Xbox x it would not be set up with new tcl tv or Samsung as that would be in another room.
To be honest to be able to play 4K in bedroom and another lounge with the tcl and Samsung I’m going to need players for both.
I have a ton of 4K movies but I do own a lot more blu rays so having a 4K player is nota must right away.
My plan in 3 weeks when I get back is find a suitable tv unit for the tcl something nice to look at as well as sturdy and big enough and strong enough.
The Samsung I know what I’m getting for that as it’s slightly smaller and lighter.

I just wish I remembered when I purchased my Xbox one lol must have just been before 4k was added to it.

            • @bwatt72: The "xbox one s" (last gen, not the series one) does 4k proper, not just upscaling. In fact, I think they removed the upscale function since nearly all TVs do it anyway, and they didn't want to further tax the CPU in the xbox. If you put in a 4k Bluray, it's playing in 4k, just like a dedicated player. if you want to know if yours is a fat or S, the fat has an external PSU like a laptop and the S has just a cable with the psu being internal. Also the fat has half matt and half glossy finish on the top, the S is matt all over.

Regarding the dedicated player, if you get one of the expensive players (that cost more than an xbox series s, let alone and xbox one s) then you might see some improvements in image quality, if you have a good enough tv and you are a pixel peeper. If I was you, I would do the relatively free xbox thing first and then if it's a drama you can always upgrade and you have lost nothing.

              • @Jackson: I currently on way to work not able to check my Xbox and away for three weeks are you talking about a fat box where power comes from?
And if you’re talking about matt and gloss I’m sure that’s what it is.
By me going to check it only says 1080p and 720p so definitely no 4k option.
I may have purchased back then the older of the Xbox one.

These Xbox s are still very high if looking for new yes second hand less but i thought s was digital?
I have a lot of Xbox games so digital is not an option if I went this route.

I fo fancy the Xbox x but not currently as still to expensive.

I know there ain’t many options of buying dedicated 4k machines it’s like a lot of the big players stopped doing 4K players I did see one Panasonic at 295 but guy a year or so back mentioned it was $100 back then?
It be nice to get same brand 4k player but maybe that’s a big ask.
Why lack of 4K players or brand names it’s like they want to 4K to flop?
I was buying blu ray and 4k to future proof myself and as I have finally got myself 4k tvs I can view them when I get set up

                • @bwatt72: Firstly, 4k is a flop. DVDs still sell more than blurays and blurays sell more than 4k. 4k players are still hundreds of dollars for an item which does one thing only really, no other platform took this long to get cheap in history.

Also the things you don't get is there are 2 separate units with S in them:

                  1. xbox one s (last gen, same as your fat, but a bit better and includes 4k playback)
                  2. xbox series s (current gen, no drive)

I am telling you that you can buy the xbox one s, sell your curren xbox one fat for not much less, and come out of it basically for nothing or not much difference. I have seens them going second hand for about 120, you would probably get 80-100 for your fat

                  • @Jackson: Yes I don’t understand why dvd still rules especially here, im more a blu ray guy myself have thousands and I was buying 4K along the way.
I Wouk not think 4K is a flop but certainly players are still premium prices.
Why would they still do 4K tv’s why not stop like they did with 3d tv’s, I happen to still have my 3d tv.

                    • @bwatt72: I meant just 4k discs, they just aren't that popular due to streaming. The luddites that haven't made it to streaming yet still buy DVDs, but they definitely don't buy 4k, as such it's a niche market. Not as niche as 3d, but still niche.

To my knowledge it's the TV manufacturers that didn't want to make 3d anymore, they figured they would sell as many tvs as they used to if they dropped it and save some cash on components on the way, and they were probably right. Most people that bought tvs didn't even take their 3d glasses out of the packet

  • +1

Actually $662 is the lowest I seen it same bundle and had in my basket but never followed through,
Was a eBay deal with code I think of 20% off for plus members.
Be hard to get as low as this as stores etc never match prices with codes like that.

  • Definitely picking up an S tomorrow.
