Probably a better alternative for those complaining of lack of USB-C being a deal breaker on Dell G3223Q deal posted earlier. I personally bought G3223Q.

Not the cheapest ever but nearly same with additional UniDay code.

Not 4K but QHD, but gets few extra frames (165hz vs 144hz).

  • Pretty sure I paid $400 for this last year

    • +2

You probably bought from this 22% off eBay Plus deal for $412. With additional UniDay code, it's nearly the same price.

Unfortunately, Dell didn't participate in recent eBay Plus 22% off deal.

      • Dell ebay store doesn’t exist anymore

        • +1

Probably the reason why we haven't seen any Dell deals on eBay this year.

          • @dealhunter52: @dealbot used to post a lot of Dell deals, but have noticed that he has been very quiet lately.

            • @RSmith: True, but he's still active and posting lot of deals (non-Dell), if you look at his profile.

              • @dealhunter52: Oh okay. Somehow his deals don't show up in my feed. Maybe he has blocked me.

Or pay $70-$100 more and get the 4K panel. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/778785

    • +9

Downside is that running 4K is significantly more demanding than QHD

      • +9

Thats very true, but for what you pay its value is vastly superior than this.

Breaks down? Mention "Australian Consumer Law" to a Dell chatbot and you sir have got a replacement unit inbound on StarTrack Overnight Express.
(based off personal experience dealing with those bastards)

      • +1

More demanding in terms of hardware resources and electricity?

        • +1

Yeah, you need high end graphics card to run new release titles at 4K.

        • The 4k panel has HDR-600, compared to HDR-400, basically it allows for a brighter screen and as a result uses more electricity. Even with an older PC I would prefer the 4k monitor as it would provide a better non-gaming experience and allow for future proofing.

      • You can always down-scale the screen to 2K right.

        • +2

You can but a QHD image will look worse on 4K monitor compared to a native QHD display.
Images appear soft or blurry because upscaling into discrete pixels doesn't work well

          • @FireRunner: Just in the case when 4k resolution really affect the PC performance. In general I dont think surfing web on 4k is that more demanding than 2k and if it really is, time to upgrade your PC :D

      • you can always set custom resolution. I'd always go 4k for the flexibility.

The whole point of this post is for people that prioritise the USB-C PD.

    • ??? This isn’t 165hz.

How is this a comparison, completely different use case/specs..

    • Only if you pay for my GPU upgrade

  • I dont know the lack of USB-C port is that important when you can pay a little more and get double the resolution. Also 165hz vs 144Hz is really a gimmick lol, translate to latency it will be 6.9ms vs 6.0ms which will be the same in 99% of people eyes.

    • Depends on your use case, USB-C means it'll basically work as a dock for a laptop, that could be more beneficial than 4K

      • -4

You can buy a docking station for less than 100$, while usually upgrade from 2k to 4k on the same monitor model will cost a lot more than that

        • +2

You won't find many, if any, docking stations for < $100 that can do 4K@144hz. Most cap at 4K@60hz.

          • +1

@dealhunter52: Why your laptop need to be use in 4k 144Hz tho. From my understanding, most people will use the Dell G322Q/D for a PC gaming, laptop plug in is mostly for WFH so u dont need 144Hz. The point of USB-C in G3223D for most people is to charge the laptop at the same time of using the monitor, not because they need 144Hz for their work.
If you really need 144Hz for your laptop, just plug it directly to HDMI output.

            • +3

@Masticccc: Horses for courses mate. For some people USB-C option is more important than 4K. Some might prefer uncluttered desk without docking stations. There's market for everything.

Btw, I don't have a laptop and I don't care about USB-C. As mentioned in the post, I bought Dell G3223Q earlier today.

              • @dealhunter52: Yeah I know obviously there is market for everything but price is a deciding factor as well. Normally the cost of 2k version is 450$ while the 4k one is 850$. It's nearly double the price so it's understandable when people go for the USB-C on G3223D rather than 4k resolution on G3223Q when they dont really need it. But with the deep discount from G3223Q as mentioned, it's hard to choose this one over it.
At the worst case for laptop user if they don't want to cluster the desk with the docking station, plug directly HDMI to HDMI output and an extra power cable to the laptop, everything is solved while enjoy the 4k upgrade for 100$ only.

        • +1

          Not everyone wants/needs 4K

          • @dav3: To be honest if you really dont need the 4k and must have the usb-c from the G3223D, this is still not the time to buy it. Look at the price history this one casually discount to 420-430 and even cheaper than this deal, so this price is not something so amazing. While G3223Q discount history is better day by day, from 850-ish to 750, 700 and now 500$. Really weird for the G3223D model not to go under 400$.
This is the same case back when every nvidia 3000 card decrease in price but the 3060Ti stubbornly stuck at 599$. Ofc not everyone need 3080/Ti but the price/performance of those top-end cards was so good that make the decision to buy 3060Ti at 599$ really sucks

      • +2

Only 15W usb-c charging so not very helpful to keep a laptop alive!

    • 4K is a bit of a gimmick if I can only run it at like 15 fps :P

      • Lol even if you don't play game, watching 4k movie is still a thing. Don't tell me you can't run movie at 60 fps on this screen, and if that's the situation then you need to upgrade the Pc before buying any monitor :D

        • Oh I have a 4K TV for movies and TV, but the fact is that my 1060 wasn't a good card for 4K when it was released so it's even less of an option now. And the modern releases in my budget don't really instil confidence that they'll be able to handle 4K for any considerable time so I'm of the opinion that 4K60 gaming at the $500 tier is a while off yet. That is, unless you're willing to drop a bunch of quality settings but it seems silly to reduce the quality of graphical effects in favour of resolution. As much as I would like to get the bargain that the G3223D is, I feel like I'd just be shooting myself in the foot by forcing a higher tier of video card on myself in all future upgrades which kind of nullifies the savings on the screen.

I have two of these.. they are awesome.

  • Will buy when it's under $400.

  • +7

    Relax guys … usb-c charging but only 15W ..

    you really need this one … 4K with usb-c 90W charging … U3223QE

    I have the 27" .. U2723QE .. but wish i got the 32" now.

    • +1

Yep been waiting for a good deal on the 32". built in KVM and usb C charging a big thing for me so can have both my work laptop and home pc going.

    • But that’s only 60Hz.

Doesn’t seem like they have a model with 4K, USB-C with KVM and higher refresh rate?

  • QHD is what you want if you have a mClassic upscaler, pretty niche item but good to know anyway.

  • Spend the extra $100 and go the 4k people

  • +1

awaiting a deal on something with built in KVM :)

  • The lack of 4k is even worse.

  • To all my dear experts and above commenters. Is this good for everyday work connected to a laptop. Work from home scenario. Watch a bit of Bum watch please. Many thanks ✌️

    • +2

If you don't do any serious gaming and not very keen on USB-C, I would recommend this used Philips 4K 32" for $174 delivered.

    • Better off with OLED for that bum watching, less smearing with dark shades.

  • +3

People riding 4k's wee wee in the comment section, but we all really know that 1440p is the sweet spot for gaming.

    • +2

Just to reply to myself - Obviously optimal screensize for 1440p is 27", which is what I'd take over a 32", anyway.

      • +2

Yeah, hoping for a decent 27"@1440 deal soon

    • People here are weird. Paying $100 extra to lose FPS isn't a bargain. I have 4K monitor and want to downgrade to 1440p for better game performance.

      • 144Hz vs 165Hz isn't that much a different, translating to latency it will be 6.9ms vs 6ms, unless you are hardcore fps player to benefit the 0.9ms.

        • You're talking about 144hz -165hz, without even thinking about the difference in FRAMES - aka FPS - you'd gain by downgrading to 1440p from 4k, which is what the person you're replying to is talking about.

          • @Shootinputin89: Technically you can still downscale the resolution to improve the frames, yes I know it's not as good as native 2K but still you have an option. On the other hand when you buy a 2k monitor obv you can't upscale to 4k anyways lol.
Ans what I said about Hz also translate to frames/FPS, not something far off

      • I've got a 27" 1440p 165hz gsync. Been using it for last few years its been excellent but upgrading to 32" 4k.

Yes my frames will drop but the advantages are
        - much bigger screen
        - higher resolution for desktop work and gaming
        - can move from dual monitors to large single
        - unclutter desk
        - the games I play arent too graphically demanding

But i can totally understand if you play the latest and greatest games, you are going to need a beefy $2k graphics card to drive 4k @ 120+ fps. My PC is pretty old - running a 1070gtx and 10 year old CPU so a big upgrade is planned at some point anyway - perhaps when some of the higher end graphics cards drop a bit in price

  • For the same 32' monitor, how come the ultrasharp series is so much more expensive compare to this?

    • Apple to orange, ultrasharp has better ergonomics and color setting for works

  • +1

    Pixel density tho

    • 2k 32 inch pixel density isnt that bad, same as 1080p 24 inch screen

  • I can't see the S2721DGF or a worthy replacement on their website, has it been discontinued? Was hoping for a sale on a 1440p 27"

    • Probably they discontinue it, been an old model from 2020. I can see there is a 27 1080p 165Hz monitor Dell G2722HS, so maybe a 2k version G2722Q soon to release.

  • has anyone used 3 of these for triple screen setup on sim racing?

    I'm not after 4K btw.
