Is the condition same as John Farnham or better?

    • +1

Hey mate don’t know if you’ve had the chance to hear him but JF is still crushing it in performances haha

      • +6

not sure about that, he is battling cancer and infection

        • +3

Agh crap had no idea. Saw him like two years ago and he was still unreal. Hope he gets better.

          • +2

@Snagsandonions: I hear you though mate… the man had no right to be singing as well as he did at 70+. He is an enigma!

    • hahahahahahahah

Great monitor for the price. A little slow to wake though. I don't need another one, I don't need another one, I don't need another one.

    • +2

      Go for it

    • +1

How slow is slow? "A little slow to wake though". I have my PC hooked up to a Samsung 32" tv (free from years ago) and could take a few minutes for the screen to display. Would like to replace it.

      • +2

        about 4 seconds or so

        • +7

          That's almost modern TV slow!

        • All my other monitors I've used are about that speed. Seems nornal to me.

      • +1

Just note: I have an issue running it in dual screen mode because of its slowness to wake. My 4K Dell wakes near-immediately, whilst by the time this wakes, Windows has assumed it's not connected and has moved all windows over to my Dell. Had to use a free 3rd party piece of software called PersistentWindows to get it to snap everything back upon wake. It's not perfect, but tolerable, and given the Dell was over a grand, and this screen was $170… I can deal with it.

        • +3

I think the solution to your problem is two of these. :)

        • +4

Had to use a free 3rd party piece of software called PersistentWindows to get it to snap everything back upon wake.

Are you on Windows 11? It's built-in now.

      • +1

        A few minutes? wtf

    • So to then

  • +2

I bought 2 last time, delivery was quick, awesome monitor.

  • +3

    Are these IPS or VA?

    • +8
      • thanks

      • 3000:1 contrast

      • What is VA?

Good enough for normal use? Writing documents / Excell / Coding work / gaming?

        • +3

Yes it's fine for all these things, VA is probably the most popular panel type. IPS might be better for tasks that require colour accuracy, IPS also offers better viewing angles which could be handy in some situations.

          • +2

            @poglet:

VA is probably the most popular panel type.

Definitely not in this day and age, especially in laptops which are overwhelmingly IPS.

          • +1

@poglet: Damn I wanted to buy this to use a second monitor but at a very weird off angle and if it is VA this might not work.

It will be going on top of a shelf next to my desk but will be viewing it looking up.

judging by the comments of the 2nd hands, i wish i bought 2nd hand instead brand new. yeah $40 less only but its 25% difference in price.

  • Anyone knows how make the usb port powered on always even the monitor is off?

    • +1

How do these usb it's work? Are they just for power, or they act as a hub to connect other stuff? Do you need to connect a usb cable to your computer as well as an hdmi?

      • +1

No idea, checked Philips website, believe AU model is less functional than other regions. However, I do notice one of the usb port is yellow instead of blue and has the power icon near the port. Working while the monitor is on, not working while it is on standby, I wish the yellow usb port could always on even on standby mode.

        • @maxall ah yes i m interested to know if that is possible (always on)

          • @CyberMurning: Downloaded the manual and they work as a usb hub. You need to connect it to your computer using one of those usb capsules that are very square-like, like the printer ones, and then you can connect other devices to the monitor

            • @pichxlonco: but the computer need to be on ? i was hoping always on means always on without even the monitor is turned on (maybe i was just dreaming)
yes i have that printer cable

              • @CyberMurning: If you want to transfer data, i assume the computer needs to be on. From what others have mentioned, apparently the ports are turned off when you also turn of the monitor. Having them on all the time would be ideal, but i'll check once mine arrives sometime between this friday and wednesday next week.

  • +1

Can you run split screen with these?

    • +2

yes you can but only half half you cant set custom
(or picture by picture - but too small for 2nd one for me)

  • -5

    It is a VA screen….

    • +11

      It is a $174 screen….

      • exactly right!

    • so what??

      • Somat.

  • +5

I got 2 of these now, they're solid little big monitors!

Was hesitant at first cause they're VA and not IPS, but they look good enough that it doesn't really bother me!

    • +7

      100% this ^

Everyone chirps on about IPS bla bla bla… but this VA panel is perfectly decent. It looks great!

      • ive got a 43" philips 4K monitor and a 40". the 43 is VA, and the 40 is IPS. the 40 is substantially better to my eye. however, nobody is offering up a 32" 4k IPS display for the same price, so its a bit moot!

        • I want to get it so bad but it will be my second monitor and at a weird angle so might not even be viewable for me.

  • If this is actually the model (328P6VUBREB) then I'm reading HERE that it even has USB-C with DP alt mode and PD 2.0), as well as a USB Hub and Ethernet. If so, and even if it's a VA panel, it's a ripper choice for a single-cable docking solution!! :)

    • Though, looking at the included side image of the monitor, it might not actually be what's listed in the specifications tab.

    • +1

https://www.australiancomputertraders.com.au/philips-328p6v-… under description it states the model = (Philips328p6v-r)

      under specs you have:

      Inputs

      VGA (Analog )

      DVI-Dual Link (digital, HDCP)

      DisplayPort x 1

      HDMI (2.0) - MHL x 1

      USB Hub
      USB 3.0x4 (1 w/fast charging)*

      • +2

        Ah, missed that. Thanks!

That's the description tab. Go to the specifications tab (usually what I default to when looking for details about an item), and you'll see the model I was referring to. :)

        • +1

All good @wellzi, I do the same sometimes in all the excitement. It's still a good monitor for the price & what it offers.

          • @adinico: Hi @adinico
I'm setting up my first work desktop and wonder if this monitor supports one cable solution? Anything else I need to buy to support multiple screens linked from one pc/laptop? Sorry that I have lost track of latest tech and my question might not be articulated enough for a straight answer.

    • I don't think it is that model — but you can DIY a one cable solution pretty cheap with a $30 cable like this, with USB-PD input.

      • +1

Thanks for sharing this, didn't know HDMI USB-C with power was a thing. Are these reliable? Or worth shelling out for branded?

Also, ty to the rep, bought!

        • +2

I've used branded and unbranded — inside they all use the same family of basic IC's — it's pretty hard to stuff up. These ones are limited to the standard USB-C 60W, more expensive ones might potentially offer things like 100W/5A support if you have the right power adapter. Be sure to check that what ever you go for has 4K 60Hz support.

Please note: they require you plug in your USB-C charger into the cable, which then carries the picture from laptop to screen, while simultaneously injecting power back to the laptop along a single cable.

          • @pinchies: Got it, thank you for the detailed response!

      • Can you explain this in more detail? What plugs go where to make it a single cable solution? You mean I can do the thing where my keyboard and mouse are plugged into the monitor?

        • +1

I was describing a single cable setup for a laptop to connect to a screen, while being charged, all over a single fancy USB-C cable. The cable I linked goes from USB-C to HDMI, but also has a USB-C socket on the monitor side for plugging your laptop charger into, which then passes power back to the laptop.

If you want to connect a mouse and keyboard (and other USB accessories) all over one cable, then you would need to use a more regular USB-C dock of some kind.

  • Is this good to play ps5?

    • I reckon you might want higher refresh rate?

      • maybe, but I don't see any games that run on 4k60fps so far? (brand new games not the upgraded ps4 title). Even so, this monitor should be able to run 4k60fps right?

        • Ahh I wasn't aware, just guessing, probably shouldn't have commented :)

  • I bought one of these a fortnight ago. For the price it is great. The sharpening out of the box was too high on mine.

  • If it was IPS I’d be buying several!

    • +9

if comes with miss america 2022, I’d be buying one!
two gfs are too much trouble for me

    • Honestly I prefer VA. IPS has inferior contrast and a weird glow that I'm sensitive to.

VA you get surprisingly inky blacks and they just tend to look better to me.

Very picky gamers or people who need accute viewing angles for some reason would be the only people I'd advise to actively seek an IPS screen.

  • +1

is this great for just everyday use i.e mainly using web browsers, no video editing nor gaming

  • Thanks! had been waiting for this for a couple of weeks!

  • +1

Just ordered 2 to replace my single 34" ultra-wide for work. They're VA, but for that price and for coding you can't go wrong!

Now gotta get an arm and a dock…

    • Dock?

  • Thoughts please on using this as a small TV with a chromecast?

    • +1

Overkill visuals wise. Speakers are basic and won't cut the mustard for regular tv viewing. But connect up a cheap external sound source and it'll work great.

      • +1

Yes, speakers are awful. That prompted me to get a cheap pair of Creative T60s.

        • +2

Yep, emergency use only. But I'm fine with that. If I'm buying a monitor at a cheap price point, I'd rather NO speakers and they instead put that budget into visual specs. Plenty of horrible monitors out there with decent speakers but horrible performance. Thankfully this model doesn't have that. Token crappy speakers for emergencies, but otherwise great visuals.

    • +1

Edit: UFO comment above is better informed :)
If that was all you were going to use it for, I personally think you're better off paying around $199 for a cheap 32inch tv from TGG or JB. Unless I'm mistaken, this monitor had no speakers, only headphone jack out. So you'd need to either pair the chromecast to BT speakers, or have audio cable from monitor to speakers. Seems suboptimal.
Having said that, this monitor will have much better resolution. If you were viewing it from llike 60-90cm away, then you're going to notice the difference. It it's on the other side of a bedroom, you're not going to get any benefit.

      • +3

Has tinny crappy speakers. I agree, if its just for tv use the convenience of one remote controlling everything as a tv is much better. A lot of stuffing about making any monitor a "TV".

      • +1

Thanks. I have the spare Chromecast and Bluetooth speakers. I need a second monitor for PC, but have a second use in mind to use it as a TV (with chromecast and speakers) in our Spa area every now and then for a dive in movie

        • Yep fair enough, then I'd go this. You can't use the TV as a monitor, but you can use this as a TV. If you've already got the other stuff, its a no brainer.

  • +9

    OzBargain's favourite bargain monitor!

I bought one of these second hand from a bargain posted here… love it! Hardcore gamers will whinge about it not being up to spec, but I play games on it (and browse, and watch movies) at my desktop and its perfectly fine. No lag, no ghosting, just works the way you expect it to.

And to the whole IPS v VA argument… seriously, its terrific for a VA screen. Deep blacks, nice and clear- you will 100% not notice it's VA. Too many people get hung up on this fact and its laughable. IPS fanboi's will neg me here, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with a decent VA panel. And this is a decent VA panel!

    • Agree. What settings do you have it at?

      • +1

Its on "Smart Uniformity". Nice balance between "Gamer" and "Office".

I run it through DisplayPort instead of HDMI though for that little boost in performance.
