Fast for its refresh rate within the context of IPS, but just not worth it anymore at this price.

Look at it again when it gets towards $350. $100 more than this current price gets you into FHD 360Hz, QHD 240Hz, and UHD 144Hz territory, and those are genuinely quick response time monitors too.

    • I agree that it's still a bit expensive, I thought I'd share nonetheless since it's an ATL price.

Could I trouble you to give some examples of those FHD 360Hz and QHD 240Hz monitors at that price range? I'd like to know which ones to look out for. I guess there aren't that many 1080p 360Hz monitors but there are quite a lot of 1440p 240Hz ones

Dell previously drop shipped their FHD 360Hz IPS models via ebay, and you'll see entry level 360Hz TN monitors hit this pricepoint through this year (currently the only model is the DyAC tuned effort from Zowie).

QHD 240Hz would either be Dell dropship IPS, or Samsung G6 (fast VA). For gaming, you'd opt for the Samsung.

Don't think you can get a QHD 240hz monitor with g sync support for $500. Please share the link if there is I'll buy it now.

I have this monitor, it's really good I got it factory second for $400 but I'm looking for more Hz

What specific QHD 240hz IPS units are you referring to for 589?

      • In terms of close approximation, I just listed them. Samsung G6 went on sale for $600ish last week, $530-$550 for manufacturer refurbished.

Are you going to nail me to the wall about the $10-$40 difference, or do you have more going on in your life?

Monitor prices aren't set in stone, just the marketing machine behind them kept people dumb and lowered their expectations for a very long time.

Sorry, I didn't mean to come across like that.

Was really hoping to switch over from 1080p 240hz IPS to QHD 240hz IPS but it looks like those Samsung units are VA panels.

          • @notaccel: That's correct, but they're also incredibly fast VA, and the only IPS that go close to managing that are 2nd gen 360Hz, and 2nd gen QHD 240Hz.

Unless you need the colour consistency of IPS for colour-related work, or the flat panel for specific kinds of productivity, the G6 is one of the best monitors you're going to get for gaming.

Beyond that, you're looking at QHD 240Hz OLED, and the better offerings amongst the new monitors that offer ULMB2, and none of them are even close to $1000 yet.

@jasswolf: This is the best in class 1440P 165/180hz monitor. For it's current price of $464 it's a good deal, which has since dropped further since this post.
Worth noting when the Dell S2721DGF at it's lowest price of around $380 is a better pickup. But when similarly priced, the LG is the better monitor.

1440P 240hz IPS starts at 800+. The Samsung G6 is VA and also 950 standard pricing, the value here is quite poor though becomes a bit better assuming you can pick it up for sub 600 dollars. The issue is you can get a Dell S2721DGF, Gigabyte M27Q or this 27GP850 for on average around the $400 mark and it's going to give the same if not a better gaming experience. You're losing 60-75hz for an IPS panel, and it's tough enough to drive 180+ framerates at 1440p in most games to begin with.

The first entry (and probably one of the best) into QHD 240HZ IPS is the Alienware AW2723DF at $897. https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/alienware-27-gaming-monitor-…

@rileytudor: Aside from comparing the LG to the Dell QHD 144Hz in terms of performance, most of this information is incorrect, and you've scrolled straight past this comment tree to give this take.

This is the kind of gaslighting I expect out of an RTings review summary. There is no technical, scientific, or photographic evidence that supports this claim.

IPS excels at colour consistency, but this is not particularly relevant for gaming or content. The G6 thrashes it in overall response times, leading to a clearer image at 240Hz with fast motion, as well as deeper blacks at the cost of some mild dark smearing. IPS offers its one strength alongside powdered trailing (bright ghosting that comes across as a small smear), and IPS glow that almost ruins blacks.

You're losing 60-75hz for an IPS panel, and it's tough enough to drive 180+ framerates at 1440p in most games to begin with.

Irrelevant take when the lifespan of a monitor should rightly be 5 years minimum, especially in the age of ML upscaling and frame generation.

Please dig into the actual technical reviews and science (note: RTings is a horrific resource for response time measurement, only look at their pursuit photography at the start of the motion blur section), and expand your knowledge.

  • Thanks @povogamer this is a very good deal indeed! I just bought 2 for my home office, I have never seen them priced this good and I've been watching for a while.

I'm not sure what this person's deal is trying to compare a bargin on a 165hz panel vs a 240hz panel, the Samsung G6 is a chunky ugly curved pile of dog poo IMO.

Literally nothing I run will even run above the 144hz HDMI limitation, let alone the OC DP. @rileytudor You are absolutely correct.
