This damn thing has no sense of self worth. Always saying it will leave us, but never really meaning it.

    • For 5 years…. Take from that what you will

    • Yes I’m amazed this is still going strong!

  • +10

The hardest working member of the family household

    • Just took ours apart this arvo to inspect what 5 years of damage has done, it required two orings to be replaced, that’s all. Absolute champion these things, just can’t kill them.

      • Hopefully these are new stock where they've upgraded them.

  • +6

Price check doesn't combo with code however shopback has tracked for me of $45.21 bringing it down to $853.89

    • Trying to sell this machine to mate who is sleeping 😂 I can get his this price

  • -1

Also make sure you get this tamper for it while it's on sale https://www.amazon.com.au/Normcore-53-3mm-Spring-Loaded-Tamp…

    • I also rate the normcore tamper, I have the 53.3mm with flat base.

    • +4

      BDB is 58mm FYI

      • So, to make it clear for silly old me, the 58.5mm one won't work? Is the 53.3mm one enough then?

    • I have the barista express - silly question, should I get the 53.3mm?

    • What's the value add compared to the stock Breville one? I've been using that for the seven years I've had the machine, now I feel like something is missing in my life.

      • +1

literally any other solid hefty tamper that fits will be better than the shitty stock breville one. The stock one has barely any weight to it and ergonomically is very difficult to use.

    • +1

The threads one is not worth it, you'd always have old grind stuck in it. Get the flat one.

This does not do any pressure tamping, just presses the bed to a certain 10mm depth, the spring does not do anything.

There are some tampers which disengage when a certain pressure is applied. This does not. So you basically just press the bed 10mm. You put a harder spring, you'd workout your muscles but still tmap 10mm.

      • What's a good flat tamper to buy for this machine?

        • +1

          Normcore v4

For a decent grinder, grab a EUREKA MIGNON MANUALE for €244.75 (~$403.07 AUD) on espressocoffeeshop, coupon code: 5559

If you only need to grind espresso, DF64P US$373.50 (~A$573.27) is a close to high-end grinder.

    • +3

Agreed, far better grinder than Breville's. Also worth checking out the Specialita and Mignon depending on what you want. For these sort of grinders pair it with a dosing funnel and you're set https://www.amazon.com.au/Espresso-MATOW-Stainless-Compatibl…

      • +1

Just be careful of dosing funnel, ensure the grinder has height adjustable holder or funnel wont fit under the chute
i purchase one for my Eureka and it wouldn't be able to push the grind button.

    • What are the advantages of a more expensive grinder? Currently using Smart Grinder Pro with Aldi beans

      • +1

Better and tastier coffee. Next step up from Smart Grinder Pro is Eureka Mignon Specialita with freshly roasted beans.

      • +1

        Few I can think of
        - These use flat burrs which produce more consistent grind
        - Burrs are made out of more robust material, less wear & tear, better consistency over time
        - better alignment of burrs for a more consistent grind
        - Stronger motor that can maintain a consistent speed, therefore more consistent grind
        - less coffee stuck in grinder, more fresh coffee each time
        - Better construction of the grinder in general, metal vs plastics

    • Any good grinders which are sold locally?

      • +1

For Eureka, it's much cheaper getting it from overseas to the point where it's worth the risk of no local warranty https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/769644. Good local Eureka sales are probably every 6 months.

  • heard they updated this machine, anyone know if this is the new model or the old one?

    • Should be. I think they updated in 2019 fr memory.

    • Don't think they've updated it cosmetically so much as changed some of the internal fittings, so it doesn't leak and kill the circuit boards. I think the only way you are going to tell if it's got the new improved internals is by the serial number of the machine.

  • Will this make better coffee than my Breville nespresso creatista pro?

  • Don't forget to do the slayer mod, I can do it for you if you make friends with me :p I love DIY

    • I've googled it, but don't know enough about Coffee to know what I'm reading. What exactly does it do?

I'll be your friend even if you don't slay my Breville.

      • +1

The stock machine, when you run a shot, puts a 9bar pressure on the puck, when the water passes through the pressure stays the same which keeps increasing the flow to a point where a channel is made, and that is bad news for people who are trying to extract lighter roasts.

The Slayer mod can control the water flow through the puck. Think of it as pre-infusion, the machine does a low-pressure shot for 3-5 seconds (based on your settings) and then applies full 9 bars until the shot is terminated (manual) or pre-programmed time. With slayer mod, you can control the flow of water mid-shot.

This feature is available on high-end machines.

        • Is it hard to do slayer mod? And will avoid warranty i assume? Thanks

          • @Bargain-er: It's reversible.

            • @sqheaven: Tempting… 😜 May be if I had 2 hours free in future. Lol. Thanks

              • @Bargain-er: The only caveat is, if you do this then descale process becomes complicated. 99% chances you'd break your machine if you followed the normal process.

I was lucky that I revived my machine by disconnecting some wires (triggers) and resetting the fault codes. It was like a heart surgery tbh.

In the end, you really don't need to descale if the water is not hard at all.

Just need to figure out what's the new descale process lol I won't attempt descale again. Just change filters regularly.

                • @sqheaven: I only had one red square on my water hardness test strip indicating very soft water, so I guess I won't descale mine?

                  • @posthex: Same here, I won't do it. Unless I see a noticeable decrease in the steam.

  • Is this an upgrade over the EM7000?

  • +1

    it’s gone, 1499 now…

  • +1

Anyone can share photo of a receipt, showing $999 price and the discount? Since they have revised the price to $1,499!!! Thanks.

  • Was this a pricing error? Didn't even mention it was on sale while it was $999

    • +1

They were probably just matching harvey norman and retravision. Would be a even sweeter deal if you have the amex harvey deal.

  • +1

My BDB of 5 years (multiple times daily) use has just had the Water pump go on it. I have the money to upgrade one level further, but how to people feel about this versus a Lelit/Isomas/Profitec duel boiler?

Can't decide if I will upgrade machine, grinder or Both… (currently Mazzar Mini with upgraded Burrs, single dose)

    • +1

It's one of those annoying things where the breville looks + feels pretty crap compared to the three brands you questioned, but the cheapest dual boilers from those brands (profitec 300 / lelit Elizabeth) start at around 2400 ish, and the high end ones are 4000+. So for me I could never justify any of them as long as this is available at/around 1000.

Its been a little bit since I looked into it, but I'm pretty sure none of the "better" machines under 3000 support volumetric shot control, which this does.

    • +1

Why not just replace the water pump?

      • +1

You're on the wrong website my guy. I don't want to hear logical advise. :)
