Missed out on the DF64P at amazon previously at $599aud delivered, seems like DF64coffee have a special on some of their grinder range, and pair it up with 10%off code works out abit cheaper than the previous deal, pending exchange rates. Delivery is $45usd

Long time coffee drinker, first time dwelling in a proper grinder compared to my old breville, got the SSP Sweetlabs cast burr upgrade with the 10% code as well. Hope this works out for some of you.

Good review of the non-p here:

Damn you! That coupon works with the df64v I've been eyeing off for weeks. T.T

    • Just some thoughts:
I'm tempted to with the df64v. It comes with burrs similar to SSP HU and hence is similarlt priced as other cheaper DF64 variants + a SSP burr set.

The DF64P and E can mostly only do espresso whereas the df64v can do other method brews.

  • Did they fix the "needing a bunch of mods to make it awesome" issue? coz if you don't know it's good to know that. Awesome grinder though.

    • Care to educate newb like me what you need? Doing a bunch of reading i only managed to upgrade the burrs from stock. Even that was hard enough trying to determine what type of burrs i needed.

      • What burrs did you upgrade to?

From what I've seen the workflow of the DF64 isn't that great in terms of static and retention. Otherwise in terms of performance there's nothing holding it back really.

          • @bargainuser: I've got the cast burrs in my fellow ode right now, from my perspective if you're happy with the workflow and mess from the static isn't too bad I would just leave it.

I'm not sure which DF you have but one of the major problems is that the chute is too far from the catch cup, grinding direct into the porterfilter is too messy. Can be solved by getting a good funnel on top of the catch up or porterfilter. Otherwise a bellows for lower grinds retention. Other than that, there's not much else besides a stand for the grinder to lower retention again.

            • @POSITIVEVIBESONLY: i got the P. Was gonna go for the original DF64 but the button and the topcap screw in would really bug me. im used to grinding straight into porterfilter but looks like have to do it with the supplied cup and cone.

Upgrading from a breville grinder, i would be happy to have something i could call coffee other than just acidic or bitter from the breville.

      • I'm not up to date but when it first came out James Hoffman reviewed it. There's probably a few other reviews out there too. 3d printed mods are easy but you just have to be prepared to do it.

The P is a bit different from the non P. This one had the grind adjustment at the bottom, and I think has the hopper included by default. So you don't need a grind indicator mod for example. Also says the declumper is "redesigned" but you may (?) still want to remove it… possibly? I don't know that the "need a bunch of mods" is really an "issue" though. Depends how you look at it.

  • Timemore sculptor being released in the next month or so will heavily compete with the DF64 with the same burr size and more complete machine.

    • are they expected to be around the same price point? looking at alternative brewing, they seem to vary from $950 to $1200

      • Timemore Sculptor was getting a lot of buzz because its kickstarter pricing was very competitive. The more entry model was $299 USD and the better version was $499. Kickstarter has ended though so the MSRPs are now $449 USD and $649USD.

    • There's always going to be something new coming out. Timemore Sculptor currently sits at 1k ~ 1.2k AUD. Over double the price of this deal. You could compare it to the DF64V perhaps - which clocks in at ~$900 AUD.

That's true, although I heavily doubt it'll sit on it's rrp for long. For the kickstarter it was going for $440 and I defs think it has a massive margin with it making money at that price point even. I reckon a lot of companies are doing inflated rrps and going to sit them on sales all year long.

The Timemore sculptor 64mm is a cost-down version and it's not powerful enough to grind for espresso, I've cancelled my order and keeping my DF64. you can watch Lance Hedrick's review here:

      • I think James Hoffman did a comparison with a bunch of grinders and found that too.
