now haven't been able to get Amex to work with front 4 digits
"Google Play" charged me a pending $2 thho …

Possible method of cashing out giftcards is topping up myki money (can use ptv app) then refunding the balance to bank account. Each myki can hold up to $1k I think.
Too risky for my liking but thought some here might be game.

    • What's the risk

      • +1

large myki refunds might require manual processing which could set off alarm bells and they might deny it? Then would you be stuck with mykis with a shitload of $$$
It would be best to wait a while after top-up before doing the refund request i think.

        • Myki refunds take a long time, and sometime you have to call them up.
          Not a straight forward experience.

          • @DoctorCalculon: If you have foreign passport, you can go to ptv hubs to get your refund on the spot, obviously you'd have to lie and say you were a tourist

            • @Outrageous: Only an Australian passport.

get your refund on the spot

              I assume via EFTPOS?

Why can't they do this for everyone with a registered myki?

  • where can i get discounted amazon gift cards using this prepaid master card?

    • Shopback does 2% i believe

      • thanks. max only $100 per gift card. anywhere else?

        • And maximum of 3x $100 pre month. I purchased 3x $100 and 3x $50 Amazon giftcards yesterday,. Today I was going to buy some Super Swap giftcard but I couldn't add this card to my account.

          • @jimojr: It'll reset and allow it again after a few days. It is a hard setting that customer service won't be helpful. You can only add cards from another issuer at the moment.

  • Transaction failed, please contact customer service. What should I do?

    • same let me know if you get past it

      • Changing my address seems to have fixed the problem for me.

    • Try paying through your mobile. Every web browser failed me but on my phone it worked fine (Google Chrome)

  • Happy day - was able to use 5 cards on the DEFT website (but not via registered login)

    • Why don't you login and make payment?Any reason?

      • is there any different?

      • if you login, you can only do it 4 times.

      • In April I did 5 consecutive transactions through my DEFT account but the last didn't go through, and then my account was suspended or something. I'm still unable to log in now.

But can still make unregistered payments without logging in.

      • It wouldn't work when I registered the card, it gave some bank error message.
Worked fine when I used the card unregistered.

  • From my experience, I struggled to purchase the same computer/IP address. When I purchased on my desktop/laptop/work laptop individually, it was successful!

    • +1

I bought 20 cards last couple of days with same credit card, email address without any issues. I straight away received invoice after payment made and gift card in less than 5 minutes.

      • lucky you!

        • Don't think is luck. All about bank! I cannot find any information said you cannot buy more than certain limit!

  • +1

So woolies giftcard portal is painful. Seems to be deliberate to slow down traffic. I am allowed to get only 2x cards purchased successfully at a time and then the rest take the funds but issue no card whilst triggering an error. Takes about an hour for refund and then same shiz again, only first 2. I have all my Mastercards added in paypal btw. Slow process, definitely not “free” cash.

    • Maybe try 1-2 per hour and spread it out across the day.

  • +8

For anyone that's still struggling to buy or struggling to re-purchase and testing different methods/browsers etc, I've got some insight after buying over 60 cards (not 60x).

    • I think whether you are successful or not will depend on your card. If it doesn't work, try a different card.
    • I purchased all on the same Chrome browser.
    • Your IP/Mac address etc shouldn't matter as I bought from the same machine, with the same browser, on the same wifi network.
    • I used my same email account, phone number, full name/address each time.
    • I've successfully purchased 2 x 10 a day. The 3rd attempt failed for me. Waited till tomorrow and purchased 2 x 10 again (didn't try a 3rd again - didn't wanna jinx).
    • The first time took about 3 1/2hrs to get to me. These last lots are coming in like 15mins.
    • CC I used had the SMS verification.
    • Every purchase went through without fail, except for the 3rd attempt on the same day.

Hope this helps save someone time testing various things unnecessarily.

    • just wondering if all your CCs use the same mobile number for OTP verification? I wonder if their server stored the mobile number and treated as one customer.

      • +1

@kenneth88 I only used 1 CC for all the purchases so it was the same mobile number for OTP each time.

Not sure what they stored for verification/approving, but having the same mobile number/CC didn't prevent me from buying again.

    • whats 60x

      • +1

@capslock janitor As in not 60 individual purchase transactions.

  • +3

Is it OOS? Not seeing 10% banner any more. Can't believe it ended the moment I finished reading 21 pages of comments

    • damn it, I think it has ended!!

    • Got it a few hours ago. But yeah no banner now

Paid some strata and rates as well as made a donation that i was planning to make before eofy

  • +4

Damn, no discount now…I only purchased 10.
I need to buy about 200+ to pay ATO…

    • Wow you have a 50k tax bill with the ATO?!

    • How do you use these to pay the ATO?

      • +1

        Use myGov app.

  • +1

I remember the 15% off Digital Apple GCs ran until the very last hour of the promo expiry and beyond.
I hope they bring this promo back again. So much easier pre-paying all of your government services with a discount.

    • To be honest, I doubt it. This card is so versatile that it can be used almost everywhere digitally, and with the ways us OzBargainers have used them to pay government services and bills, they won't have much left over waiting to expire. At the end of the day, Coles/Heritage Bank just want to limit their "losses".

  • If you used these to pay for a tax deductible expense, and you are at the highest marginal tax rate, then the effective discount is somewhat more than the 7.48% as you are getting a tax deduction on the full amount while paying a reduced rate.

I estimate this will get you closer to 10% off rather than 7.48%

    • +1

      Its all mental accounting tho.

      • -2

        Sure! Let's break it down:

"Tax deductible expense": This refers to an expense that you can subtract from your taxable income when calculating how much tax you owe. It helps reduce the amount of tax you need to pay.

"Highest marginal tax rate": Marginal tax rate is the highest tax rate applied to your income. If you are in the highest tax bracket, you are subject to the highest tax rate on your income.

"Effective discount": This is the actual reduction in cost you receive after taking into account the tax benefits.

"Tax deduction on the full amount": When you use certain payment methods for tax-deductible expenses, you can deduct the full amount of the expense from your taxable income, reducing the tax you owe.

"Paying a reduced rate": This refers to the discounted rate you receive when using a specific payment method for the tax-deductible expense.

        Now, let's put it together:

If you use a payment method that allows you to deduct the full amount of a tax-deductible expense from your taxable income, you effectively lower the amount of income you are taxed on. If you are in the highest tax bracket, this results in greater tax savings. So, the actual discount you receive, when factoring in the tax deduction and reduced tax rate, may be higher than the initial discount rate of 7.48%. The estimate provided suggests that the total discount could be closer to 10% off the original expense.

In summary, by taking advantage of the tax benefits associated with certain payment methods for tax-deductible expense

        • Hooray for cookie cutter answers from ChatGPT.

You do realise that some of your sentences have been cut off because you did not copy and paste them properly?

    • Could someone please give an example to demonstrate how one can get a tax deduction on the full amount while paying a reduced rate? Like when you buy a $250 card at $231.30 to pay a tax debt of $250.00.

      • Buy a computer for a small business for $1000. Tax deduct it with the full $1000 (instant asset write off). Means your tax is reduced by $$$, say $400 for example. Effective cost of computer: $600.

If you pay using 4 of the $250 gift cards you spent only $925.20. You'll still get a tax invoice for $1000 and deduct the full amount, same $400 tax savings. Effective cost of computer: $525.20. Meaning the gift cards saved you 12.46% (of the $600).

        • +1

Ah got it, thanks! Turned out I’ve been doing it for stuff bought with discounted gift cards already.

  • How do you guys check the egift card details? When I try to open the "view egift card" from the email they sent me, they redirect me to mybalancenow.com with an error message "A system error has occurred. Please try again later."

    • Pretty sure that’s the only way to check the e-gift card details.

    • Try opening the link in incognito mode.

It's so annoying when I wrongly believed that both this deal and the Amazon Ultimate cards would run til the end as it had been the case with the Apple gift cards. Lesson learned!

The problem with this deal is, unlike the Apple gift cards, imo, we need to plan ahead what we want to spend on, and then use the cards immediately once they arrive. Otherwise, it would have been better and more convenient to stock up 80 or 100 $250 cards.

    • Indeed, precisely the reason I missed out

    • I also thought the same thing. Missed out the Amazon Ultimate cards purchase.

  • +1

I wish it ran longer. But even so was good… I subscribed to this thread like others, caused me to receive a truck load of emails to catch up on ever few hours :-)

  • How long does it take ATO to update the balance to reflect the payment? Its been 3 days and no sign of payment.

    • I paid 31 may afternoon and they showed up lunchtime 2 june, 7 out of 9 cards were included. Maybe on Monday it will include the other two

    • My balanced updated on the 2nd day.

  • so many people bought this one…. any guess how many millions worth GC sold just with this deal alone ? it probably was longest lasting 10% discount deal .. seen on OZB … !! probably says how desperate retailers are to take your cash and put it in their wallet until you spend all ..!

    • +2

It's never been seen before and is the deal of the entire Ozbargain history :)
So many people scooped the free money .

      • I think people would have bought the similar amount for in-store sales.

These cards always sell like hotcakes whenever go on promo.

      • +3

I missed out because wasn't needing to buy anything and I don't like money sitting in gift cards.

        • +1

I have still got plenty left from physical cards promo so only purchased 11.

I could have purchased more but I am out of merchants to pay bills. My council rates are already in $7k credit lol

          • +3

@Ash-Say: Assuming you drain your credit in rates in 1 year, 7% saving is offset by 7% mortgage rate so no benefit?

            • @OrangeBJ: A quarter ahead is reasonable.

I always find people who did or bragged something extreme in the previous deal disappear in the next deal. You know why.

        • +4

Same reason that I didn't buy more this time. But I like this deal as it is online. Saving the trouble driving around to nearby Coles hoping there would be some left on shelf during my lunch break and ignoring looks and questions from staff.

I wish they run this every now and then so only buy amount that I need. Don't want to stock up.

  • Ah dang, was planning to get some more today. Oh well, it was good run yesterday to pay off all ultilities till next year.

    • how do you do that? I am with dodo for electricity and internet , tried to pay online but it does not go through as i do not have any balance owed.

      • Some providers let you prepay

        • +2

Yes. Paid council rates, water, gas and electric in advance. I would be really surprise that any providers not allowed to have your account in credit. It would be a win for then because they will get the money upfront.

  • +3

Fortunately bought another set of 10 late last night. Definitely deal of the year so far.

Lexus Perth refuse to use cards for payment.

    • +1

Well, their loss. Move on to next Lexus dealer.

      • +1

Perth only has the one. No other option.

        • Then move to Melbourbe or Sydney. :)

      • Only one dealer here..

  • Damn was waiting for a mistake overpayment to my CC go through before buying more this morning

Oh well 18 card haul - hard to complain.

  • +3

Pity that they pulled the promo earlier. I was planning to buy a few more this weekend.

    • Yeah I was hoping to buy a few more to pay a few more bills.

    • +2

It may be back on Monday. Thinking of the customer service that is usually limited or none over the weekend.

      • Fingers crossed. I still got another $4k worth of bills I wouldn't mind paying.

      • +2

        It didn't :( .

  • -2

Arsehats! I was going to buy 10 yesterday for my upcoming tax bill, but thought I'd wait to today to make sure it counts on my credit card spend.

    • +3

      Ya snooze ya lose

  • Happy Birthday! Wishing you all the best for the year to come…

  • +1

Deal of the Universe and it can't get close to the Tesla deal upvotes hehe :)

  • +1

damn i was hoping this would continue until the published end date of 6 June. i had planned to buy another 70 for some big bills that need paying off. hopefully this or the physical card discount comes around again soon

    • +2

I have a feeling that people are going to lose their job from this deal. People here are buying $25000+ of discounted gift cards. 😂

      • +2

No one is going to lose their job, they obviously had a limited amount to sell and once they hit they hit that they ended it.

Still unsure why coles is giving free money away but they regularly do it on the physical cards

        • +5

At least with the physical cards they can somewhat limit how many cards someone can redeem.

I hope you are right and Coles doesn't care and they run this promo again.

  • Damn, I only managed to score 6k

  • Only gotten 14 and plan to buy more and do all the charging this weekend but….

  • +5

    265*$250, done

    • +2

      OMG….that's almost $5k in profit…

      • also a decent amount of credit card points.

    • +1

That must be the record here
