    Supports rooting and custom ROM's

Certainly a lack of custom ROMs though. Or I'm bad at finding them.

Sure you can use Project Treble on pretty much anything but it's no guarantee that everything will work smoothly. So many devices have issues that developers need to fix.

… but it's no guarantee that everything will work smoothly. So many devices have issues that developers need to fix.

If that is the bar you are aiming for, better stick to stock

When you venture out of the walled garden, expect to get your hands dirty

@Look Up: My point is you shouldn't advertise "custom ROMs" when there really aren't any. Otherwise we'd be putting them on every Android deal when that's not the case. If someone had developed a LineageOS or Pixel Experience ROM etc. specifically for this tablet, like other Lenovo tablets then it would be a different story, as they're stable and worth moving to. Not treble where you can have major issues like Bluetooth and speakers not working to name a few.

My point is you shouldn't advertise "custom ROMs" when there really aren't any.

The deal text - "supports rooting and custom ROM's" - is not an advertisement, it is a fact

The bootloader on this TB125FU can be unlocked, custom ROM's can be installed and if you choose to, the device can be rooted

Whether those custom ROM's - currently in the form of Treble GSI ROM's - meet your criteria of "stable and worth moving to" is for the end user to judge

Otherwise we'd be putting them on every Android deal when that's not the case

Checking the first few pages of your Alldocube, Teclast, Xiaomi, Lenovo Xiaoxin, Blackview etc deals none of them confirm in the deal text whether the bootloaders can be unlocked - only that some of the "Global firmware" Lenovos are "buggy with an unlocked bootloader, no Widevine L1 DRM and no updates."

For your future deals, if you want to add whether the device bootloader can be unlocked so they even have the potential to run custom ROM's, that is your choice

Not treble where you can have major issues like Bluetooth and speakers not working to name a few.

That is not a Treble exclusive issue

They are device specific custom ROM's where BT, audio, GPS, sensors etc are listed in the release notes as not working 100% because the compatible drivers or config files have not been made to work yet

Just because some particular features are not 100% does not mean that particular device does not support custom ROM's

              • @Look Up: You see when I post tablet deals I'm honest about their capabilities. Mentioning no Widevine L1 DRM, tablets with unlocked bootloaders and dodgy ROMs (no longer posted) and so forth is a good thing.

If I was to say straight up that the bootloader can be unlocked and custom ROMs can be installed that would be true, but it would be misleading. A half assed ROM that's not been designed for the specific device and doesn't even work properly goes against the whole reason of going custom ROM.

I just don't see the point in encouraging people to ruin a perfectly good tablet with something that'll turn it into a piece of shit. If there was a genuine working ROM then that's a different story.

Each to their own. Perhaps I will have to mention bootlocker status. Unisoc tablets are easy.

                • @Clear: Clear, your logic is bizarre

The capability to run custom ROM's and the quality of a custom ROM are two entirely different things

                  You do you

                  • @Look Up: Not bizarre at all. Rather I'm thinking ahead. If you advertise that it supports custom ROMs and someone buys it with that knowledge, they'd expect that it's going to have proper working custom ROMs right? After all custom ROMs are used when a tablet reaches EOL to get newer versions of Android, and/or to get new features.

Half baked, half assed generic Android ROM that doesn't work properly certainly doesn't sound good to me.

                    • @Clear: All the best Clear, it has been an enlightening discussion

                      • @Look Up: Indeed. Nothing personal of course :)

  • This low-priced tablet reviewed well with its high-quality screen in a video I watched. I thought I bought it from Aldi during their $99 sale (except my store sold it for an inflated $119).

    Lenovo Tab M10 Gen 3
Lenovo Tab M10 Plus Gen 3

Turns out the Aldi tablet was the non-plus version. I had no idea there were different models with the same model number and generation until after I realised the screen was average. I would have kept the inferior tablet if Aldi had uniform pricing but because I paid +20% more than everybody else for the same product, it had to go back.

    • Granted but at $119 it was still a bargain.

I have one, I think the screen is a bit better than this iPlay 50 I'm typing from. It's not as high performing for games but in terms of features I like it better.

I use the iPlay 50 when I want to game now, but for most other things like Netflix etc I use the M10. $119 isn't bad for a glorified travelling Netflix and browsing tablet

      • Yeah. $119 probably still is good value but psychologically, paying that $20 more made me deterred. I even showed the manager the Aldi receipt to price match but was denied.

  • Supports playback 2K at 30FPS

Oh neat, this it the first non chinese tablet in this price range i've seen that can do that
And before you say the screen's only 1080p tier, I like using 1440p to get less compressed looking video

      Lenovo is Chinese though?

      • +1

        Yes everything's made in china.
But not everything has chinese roms and no warranty presence in Australia
I did think for a second "do i have to over explain that too?" but thought no one would be that nitpicky.

        • I'm pretty sure Lenovo is a Chinese brand. Not just made in China but the company originates from there.

  • Who can hook me up with their edu store account 😂

  • Anyone able to actually purchase it? The moment I try to continue past my address, it just greys out the button and I'm stuck there…

    • Called their support and was able to get an order through

  • I can't seem to register an account with an edu domain. Create account Button does nothing

    • Bought the s6 from jb instead, had some gift cards that needed using!

  • +1

$247 at Amazon. $249 at JB, TGG, and Big Dub

  • Price drop plus deal updated to main Lenovo store

  • $214 from Bing Lee eBay with Afterpay.
