I guess for the white and black it's a little cheaper than elsewhere. But if you don't care about the colour then it's pretty expensive compared to the stainless steel

    As per Magik plus

    $599 at Costco

  • I don't get it. Is it $65.90?

Thanks Grumblerain, it is 10% deposit of $658.98.

      • ahh, thanks for the clarification.

  • I just added a PID and opv to 9 bar to my mates GCP. Very decent machine and can rival those 2k machines

    • I've still got a pre 2015 Gaggia classic (no opv required). Just temperature surf but never been an issue.

Agree, great machines for the price. Easy to work on and upgrade as well as required.

Recommend shades of coffee UK. Their lowered drip tray is a must have to fit normal cups underneath (and or a bottomless porta filter).

I neglected the scaling/cleaning process for some years so needed to do a bit of an overhaul - the shower screen was completely blocked. Ended up replacing with the following, which are good upgrades anyway:

      • New Stainless Steel Dispersion Plate
      • IMS Nanotech coated Gaggia Mesh Shower Screen
      • Silicone Group Gasket 8.5mm
      • Gaggia bottomless filter.
(Did the silvia wand upgrade at the time when I got it- highly recommened over the yuk black plastic, looks like the pro model has an upgraded wand vs the non-pro)
  • Thinking between this or the Bambino plus. Any thoughts guys?

    • Bambino plus has a bunch of features that this doesn't have, I am bias as I have a bambino plus. I think it's great personally.
Would I go for something with a 58mm first time? Probably yes, but that would double my budget to get the same feature set (PID, 3 way valve, decent steam pressure and quick warm up time)

      • Yes all about working out what features are necessary as long as the quality of the shot is the same.

        Quick warm up time

Some may find it useful, I got the Gaggia on a smart plug so works great with the wake up routine/timer, need to have a hard 'on' switch though:).

      • Thanks. As someone who will be moving up from a pod machine, I do want to strike a balance between good coffee and ease of use. Looks like Bambino Plus will be a better fit for me.

        • Bambino is easier to use as you don't have to time your shots.
Gaggia is great if you want to learn how to make great coffee and the art of making it

          • +1

@maverickjohn: The manual feature set on the bambino plus mean you can go down this wormhole

The Bambino Plus has a few built in training wheels, but it's good for a first time machine until you figure out whether you want to learn those functions or not

          • +1

@maverickjohn: I looked up the bambino plus out of interest.. seems like a decent almost automatic albeit niece offering but would still need your own grinder. It would be easy to use and consistent, with quick warm up time but why wouldn't you get another model with the built in grinder.

The Gaggia is a bit more of a traditional manual machine, requiring more skill to get the shots consistent. The grind coarseness and tamping pressure would make more of a difference to get a good shot, but when you nail it the creama is fantastic.

              @G-rig: @G-rig @Paudius
The Bambino certainly has manual features to go down the learning pathway . The exclusion of the grinder imo already makes this better than bes870 etc.
Problem is this Bambino will break down in less than 10 or so years. and the Gaggia will last longer and will rival much higher heat exchange machines with a few mods..
In saying that I found myself learning through a BES 860 and now own an e61 dual boiler. So the journey of coffee making is an expensive but fun journey

              • +1

@maverickjohn: Agreed on the above, the Bambino is a very cheaply built HX machine. Can't really comment on the longevity of the later Gaggia, but it's a very simple machine.

Can't really comment on the rivalling high end HX machines, I doubt a small single boiler machine would be in the same wheel house personally. Saw what was needed to make one into a gaguino and man, it just looked like too much effort for something that was only a few hundred less than a proper dual boiler with loads more features

                • +1

@Paudius: My friend and i did the PID and the OPV in a total of about 4 hrs. In all fairness it was pretty good. The quality of coffee was very close to my la pavoni botticelli dual boiler, the PID worked surprisingly well and was a great extract when pulling a shot. But also agree with you, that kind of tinkering isn't for everyone.

              • @maverickjohn: Agree, that all sounds fair. Would certainly be a good way to start and much better than a pod machine and the waste that comes with it.

Gaggia is great, brass boiler. Had mine since 2008 or 10 depends what you want. Can still always upgrade/sell later.

  • How does it compare to a Breville express pro?

  • So what happens if we don't achieve 100% pre sale order by the time the pre sale clock ends? Is it just a matter of waiting longer until the 100% is reached or will it be a refund of the 10% deposit?
