8gb is this a joke? 11% better than 3060 ti is this a joke? 4070/ti all the way.

    • +7

That’s what nvidia wants. Give your sales to Intel or even AMD or else this will continue next generation too.

      • AMD also greedy at the same level. And Intel Arc is a joke

        • arc has potential, down the long road

    • +2

$600 seems to be the new budget tier unfortunately.

    • +4

      12gb on $1000 GPU's is also a joke lol … but i guess it's not 8 so Nvidia's mind games is paying off …

    • -3

The price is a joke. But it's firmly a FHD card - do many games demand more than 8gb at FHD yet? I tried to find benchmarks of vram usage, but there really isn't much out there.

      • +2

The joke is pay $600 to pay in a lower res as 1080p. Just buy a Xbox/ps5 then and play in 1440p or 4k eventually.

        • Absolutely, as I said, price is a joke.

I was referring to the comment "8gb is this a joke?". So far crickets on that part.

Even at 1440p, does anyone have any benchmarks for 8gh of vram?

      • +2

Who on earth is paying $600 to game at 1080p?

        1080p you'd just get a 6650xt or 6700

        • Pretty much everyone that bought a 3060/ti for $600?

But again, don't get me wrong, the price is rubbish. I wouldn't be buying this a $600. I agreed on price, the bulk of my comment was around the 8gb of vram. Talking about this card at 4k makes no sense, so I was simply asking if 8gh is a problem at FHD (and I suppose 1440p). I can't find any benchmarks on it.

          • +1

@incipient: 3060ti was enough for 1440p back when it came out.

      • It's depressing that this is marketed as a 1080p card at all. The bar is set so low. The GTX 1060 was launched as a FHD playable card for U$250 back in 2016. 7 years and U$150 later, their 60 series is still a FHD card.

    • +4

If it is the joke, i think we're the punchline.

    • Don't forget that reviewers also did not compare it too the GDDR6X Updated version of the 3060Ti which has 5% over standard 3060Ti. So its really more like 6 to 8% increase over current GDDR6X updated version 3060Ti. Just buy one of them for $150 less

      • +1

for real, also yeah the 7900 XT is probably gonna be what I end up buying, not the 4070 lol. Nvidia is a joke

        • I wanted to pull the trigger on 7900 XT, but the price gap is big RTX 4070 is $857 + Diablo 4, whereas RX 7900 XT is $1199. So i bought the RTX 4070.

          • @inusure: fair enough. I'm currently not in a financial position to buy anything so im fine waiting. But enjoy your new card!

      • correction about $50 to $70 less new sorry.

        • They're being rapidly discontinued, but $300 USD would have been a fair starting price for this card. It's a 4060 renamed, like they've attempted with every model bar the 16GB 4080 and the 4090.

They're learning, and rebating, slowly. The retailers, wholesalers and AIBs in most regions are being very slow to pass the savings on, though.

  • +1

    The price drop was quick.

    • +1

Inventory here is intentionally lean I think, so any rebates are coming through fast, and now we have EOFY to go with. The real deal will be when this is $449.

  • Afaik PNY aren't participating in the Diablo 4 deal in Australia.

  • +9

    Avoid this garbage.

  • +1

Oh wow, already ~50USD under MSRP (removing import taxes into aus).

    • $40 USD, but still $60 USD to go before I'd consider this remotely fair. Forget the name, compared to previous generations it's a 4060 at best, as are the chip and board costs.

  • Should be $5.99

  • +4

You guys can laugh at this deal but this is a pretty good for a 4060ti series

    • +2

I agree. For a very casual gamer like myself still rocking a 1080ti, this is a very attractive price point to get into current gen with DLSS3.

      • +1

Or for less buy a used 3070 or new 6700xt that trashes this card with real frames.

  • +9

Avoid this e-waste POS. 8GB? Even $100 wouldn't be a bargain. Just get a 6700XT for an actual bargain price and wait it out.

    • +1

I would get this anytime at 100$ anytime. Name me a better new gpu at that price pls

      • +5

It was obviously sarcasm, as this would never sell at 100. Anything over 400 is too much for an 8GB card.

  • +5

nVidia is gimping their gaming range because it does not want their gaming range cannibalizing their professional/machine learning range.

For machine learning, the card has:
    1. too little VRAM (8 GB).
    2. too little memory bandwidth — 128 bit bus for 288GB/s bandwidth. Replaced with 32MB of cache, which, in my opinion, costs as much as having 256 bit bus.
    3. PCIe 4 x8 — too little for machine learning, which needs to transfer huge amounts of data to the GPU.

    • +5

nVidia shares jumped 25% yesterday. Honestly, I doubt nVidia worries about people getting those cards for AI. Majority of their big AI customers would get high end ones. Also, one of the key reasons of its dominance in AI space is CUDA.

The 16GB VRAM version will be released later, but you will have to pay more for it. Also, if game developers want to enforce 16GB VRAM for 1080p quality gameplay, then a lot of people will be affected. The AMD GPU announced two days ago also has 8GB VRAM, but that's not in the same tier as this GPU.

      • +1

If AMD had have been competitive with Navi 33, this would have been the RTX 4060, so in truth it really is the same tier.

    • Replaced with 32MB of cache, which, in my opinion, costs as much as having 256 bit bus.

The cache is needed more than the bus width, it's been an architectural bottleneck for a while now. But go off king, tell a bunch of the world's leading engineers and scientists they've got it wrong, then stop by AMD & Intel and tell them the same.

Performance per dollar spent matters at this price point, and the easy money is in extra L2 cache. AMD went with massive L3 cache and it's cost them two generations in a row, moreso with RDNA3.

As for the whole argument about machine learning vs professional vs gaming vs data science, it's about a lot more than VRAM count, which genuinely does jack the price $100 USD to double once you consider the margins for everyone: there's all the work on turnaround times, software support and data precision for those clients when required.

Best case scenario for this price point was going to be 10 GB 160-bit bus GA104 SKU, but that's now a 12GB 192-bit 4070.

Jensen Huang no longer cares about PC gamer anymore.

He did not mention gamers at all during the earnings call, he was talking about AI all the time.

    • +6

Sadly, we've been buying the wrong nVidia products, we should have bought nVidia shares.

    • Sad day for the gaymer community. RIP

  • +3

Rx 6700 10GB is the better choice

    • +7

Or grab the 6700XT for $480 in the Ozbargain deal posted yesterday.

    • -1

This is an extremely short term view, in so many ways. Heavy RT and pathtracing performance are a lot better on 40 series, DLSS 3 takes things further and won't be properly matched by AMD, who are considering generating frames at a 3:1 ratio (i.e. massive latency issues) just to catch people's attention.

The price needs to go down, yes, but the technology here is sound, and certainly outperforming AMD if you're using any one of DLSS upscaling, DLSS frame generation, and RT/PT lighting, but you can also play games today with all three.

  • +2

grabbed RX 6800 (non-XT) for $500 used the other day. solid 4k. 16GB VRAM. say no to team green

graphics cards NVIDIA builds are for creators, AI suckers and miners before that. gamers should have a better choice

    • You mean $899?

        • +1

I think people were saying to avoid the ventus - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13794457/redir

          • @xaykogeki: That is concerning, however that is also a different cooler/model.

Edit: clarified in comments it the X2 is affected.

          • @xaykogeki: Thanks man my friend bought the X2 but now he cancel his order, the X2 is affected by this.

This is so ridiculous from MSI they always have amazing cooling on their motherboards for the VRM and they forget to cool it on a $1,000 GPU.

    • Yeah no. Diablo is a non-factor for any purchase decision. And better to not fund Nvidia for the overpriced 4070. And it is like $900, not 800.

Help. Surely the 4060ti edges out the 6700 for a mid range non 4k system right?

    • +3

Compare the price. If you're not gaming at 4k, a $480 6700XT 12GB will kick some butt.

    • in theory, yes. in reality should depend on game / settings, as the narrower bus will sure have its impact on 4060ti, also less VRAM

  • Also available in Scorptec

  • +3

2017 called - they want their VRAM capacity back

    • 2002 called they want their x8 pcie back

  • +1

    Same price here since release.
    https://www.centrecom.com.au/pny-geforce-rtx-4060-ti-8gb-ver…
Pretty sure this is the release price, just other AIBs/Stores want to change more for their name/brand/design/profits.

  • Not enough for newer games at 1080p. Older games only for this one.

  • Stop posting crap because it's new and shiny. Only post if it's actually a good deal

  • Bad card don't buy.

  • +2

    LOL $600
We all knew it would be this price tho, but still
    LOL

I just got a 6650xt for $340 and the 4060ti is between 5% and 30% better, so prob avg about ~20%, after watcing a couple of youtubes.

    and once again LOL
