I wouldn't agree to that.
NSwitch games can't play Xbox One, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, or Windows PC games. It's too slow. You can't make comparisons. There is the odd exception here and there. But the point of the NSwitch is to play 2D Games, Retro games, Indies, and Nintendo Exclusive titles.Companies optimise their games where there is a profit to chase. That means firstly iOS, then PS5, Xbox takes a back seat, and we don't see much optimisation for Android or Windows. Nintendo misses out just because they're around 8-14 years behind in hardware.
Honestly it would make much more sense to think of the NSwitch as a dedicated handheld instead. Don't compare it to Home Consoles. So it's like the PS Vita Slim, new3DS, PSP Brite, DS Lite and Gameboy Advance. That's where it doesn't look bad performance wise, and that's where it doesn't look that great sales wise.
If you compare the performance of switch and deck you are getting way more bang for buck for the deck. Sure it's more expensive but Its definitely 2 to 3 times more powerful. The switch is soo old at this point but the price is still the same.
if you buy base model of the steam deck and upgrade to 1TB,
it would cost more than a PS5.PS5 is 8 times more powerful than PS4.
Steam is approximately the power of a PS4.
Though I think it is more like a weaker PS4 (since it mainly plays at 30fps 720p vs 1080p of PS4)So you are paying alot of money for basically a last gen console power.
Steam deck is already struggling to play current AAA on low settings.
Don't have much hope for it in the future to be able to run any AAA titles at all or worth trying due to poor performance.Alot of people saying they game alot more on the steam deck now..
which means they are playing it at home (vs playing it on their console or PC with VRR and higher fps).
So basically all these beautiful AAA looking games could be enjoyed on a 4K TV or monitor
but instead people rather just play it on a small screen running at 720p 30 fps on low to mid resolution
and most likely connecting their power cord to the steam deck (since it only has approx 1.5 hr battery life for AAA graphically intensive games).PS5s are in a totally different league. I'm talking about handheld gaming
Why does it seem like the Steam Deck is already considered outdated?
It's really not… Just not as powerful as the ROG Ally, which is a year younger but quite a bit more expensive. The Deck still receives support from Valve, and will continue to have it over the next few years. SD Community is only getting bigger as well.

switch very much still out sells the steam deck, software developers optimize there games to run extremely well on switch hardware so its by no means slow in comparison, pc developers don't optimize that much because its a PC people just buy better hardware, So even with the better spec on a steam deck you still get better performance for the same game on a switch because its. optimized to run well on a switch despite what hardware it has.
