  • Been meaning to decide on something since my plan 'expirered' a little while ago. Seems like the tarrifs have jumped up about 30% since a year or so ago (always usde to be similar or a bit more before this time, so better get something sorted too).

The old rates were a lot better
    (Origin Flexi Rate ePlus)

General Usage 18.364 cents per kWh
Controlled Load 2 Usage 13.713 cents per kWh
Daily Supply 91.453 cents per day
Daily Supply - Controlled 2.096 cents per day

    Origin Everyday Rewards Variable
$100 credit plug plus everyday rewards bonuses

5,000 bonus sign up points and earn 1 point for every $1 (incl GST) bill charge. Origin Go Zero Electricity starts from $1.50 per week, and Origin Go Zero Natural Gas starts from $1 per week.

    • In my case the solar feed-in tariff (14c for the first 4000kWh) going to save me a lot compare to Origin 5c/kWh

      • That's pretty good. Don't have solar unfortunately.

  • Got placed on waiting list . Seems they are "only taking on a limited number of customers at a time."

    • Oh really? I didn't get that when I tried to join.
You can't join online though. A rep needs to call you to go through the rates and T&C etc..

  • Agl allows 12c for first 14kwh per day exported as part of their solar savers and then 5c there after per day.

    14x365=4380KWh x 12c = $613.2
Ovo works out at $560 for 4000KWh exported ($586.6) for the same 4380KWh.

If you export more than 5.710MWh in a year you'll be better off with the Ovo deal in SE QLD than Agl it appears

    • Thanks for the info.
Based on what I can see, AGL charges 123.9c for supply + 7.75c for solar meter so that's a little higher than 110c that OVO charges.
Also they give up to $100 credit as opposed to OVO $190
In this case, I save a little more with OVO, but I agree, they pricing is a bit similar

  • Checked it out and my quote is
    Anytime unit rate:
    27.72c/kWh

    CL2 unit rate:
    19.91c/kWh

    Supply charge:
    99c/day

Any reason why it’s even cheaper than your quote?

    • It's no accident your numbers are 10% out. Yours exclude GST. The number in original post are correct.

      • Thank you!
Edit. Just checked and it says INCLUSIVE of GST. Weird

  • For Solar, winter is coming, I didn't even produce 12kw today.

    I am based in QLD

    Whats the demand charge 10c/kWh?

    On Energy Australia
    I only get 6.6c/kWh FIT
    But 93c/day & 17c/kWh .

    • I got 4.something ,/kWh with EA, down from 9.7 when I first signed up, which prompted me to switch providers. VIC based, so maybe that's common?

  • Just signed up, used a random referral so someone should be benefitting
The rates seem a bit better than the basic Origin deals. Not that worried about ER points & good enough.

You’ll be receiving $190 in credit paid over 12 months

  • $105 cashback with Shopback plus the $190 if you don’t use a referral code.

    • Don't think you'd get both, plus you get all those pricks calling you from the comparison site.

    • Can't usually use another code if using cashbacki thought

      • Correct, you wouldn’t get cashback as I said for referral code but you definitely get the $190 paid monthly. And one phone call is not too hard to handle. Only called me once and I said thanks but I have now gone through Shopback.

        • So isn't $190 better than $105 cashback?
The referral code wouldn't be listed on the Shopbop site, unless I'm missing something..

Anyway already signed up using referral.

          • @G-rig: You get both rather than the referer getting $190. So, everyone gets $190. If you went through Shopback you would have got $105 cashback AS LONG as you didn’t use the referral code.

            • @chrisharry53: Yeah I used a random referral so both people should get $190. Seems better than $105.

              • @G-rig: Yep, not for you personally though as you could have got $105 plus the $190 but the random is a winner.

                • @chrisharry53: Not going to cancel and apply again, sounded like it wasn't even working for most people.

            • @chrisharry53: was on the phone with an ovo rep just then and they said it's either the cashback or the $190, not both. Did you actually get both?

              • @macr0hard: Cashback tracked but I won’t know for months yet as I only signed up recently.

                • @chrisharry53: Ao you signed up online and didn’t have to go through a rep?

                  • @macr0hard: I did but I ended up canceling my switch as wanted to wait. I then took up a $100 gift card offer to switch elec and gas and also get the $190 Ovo credit for elec.

  • No android app for Australia apparently..

  • I am in Qld as well with Nectr energy Your Electricity Charges are increasing as well.

    Nectr Hive Saver plan.

    Charge Description Units Charges
General usage charge cents per kWh 20.900
Controlled load 2 cents per kWh 16.500
Supply charge - General Usage cents per day 92.400

This is my old plan due to expire , Nectr 100% Clean, which ends on 26th June 2023

    Charge Description Units Charges
General usage charge cents per kWh 18.920
Controlled load 2 cents per kWh 15.950
Supply charge - General Usage cents per day 88.000

Ovo rates appears to be higher than Nectr new rates. I am not sure if Nectr are taking new customers but worth checking out.

  • just did a quote and only got 12c FIT. Requested a call back and they never called. I think Powershop is going to get my business

    • That's disappointing..
I think it's depending where you live.
I just tried to do quote and I'm still getting 14c FIT.
There is an option to enter your details there now so looks like you won't need to speak to a person to join anymore?

      • oh they called, a bit later, but i'm in NSW so it's only 12c, I'll try again on the website tomorrow to see if I can do it online.

  • Spoke to a rep and he mentioned "bill smoothing", like they will estimate your usage/export and bill you a certain amount every month. If you don't go with this option the rates are higher. Anyone has experience/knowledge about this you could share?

  • Bloody origin were chasing hard with a retention deal, so many calls and wouldn't provide anything in writing for ages. ended up just staying sticking with the ovo sign up. I think it's still better due to the $190 bill credit vs nothing.

Out of interest, origin offered me:
    General usage 22.72
    Daily supply 104.14
    Based on average yearly 3395.

Seems to be flat rate and no CL2 (off-peak rates).

More painful than changing your internet, but they should just adverse the better rates on the website to start with.

  • Thanks OP switched to these guys and used random referral.

I'm in QLD, couldn't really find any better deals really.
Currently out of contract with Origin.

These ongoing price rises are crazy. Call me a conspiracy theorist, I have a feeling it is a way to control the little guy makin money off Crypto Mining..

  • Is there any indication that the rates listed on the OVO website will be going up soon?

I'm currently with Alinta and after July 1 they will be less competitive than the current OVO rates, but I'm not keen to switch if there are known increases in the works for OVO.

    • It's anyone's guess, but if you sign up you'll be guaranteed those rates for a year I thought. Sounds like what you're on isn't too bad, really only 2 weeks or so to July so it's the right time to look or after your contact up.

    • +1

OVO rates will go up in August.

      • Even if just signed up? 12 month contract.
Unless you mean most or all electricity rates go up then.

  • Supply charge (¢/day): 143.9

    …..😑
