  • If you need a bigger screen buy Surface pro tablet and convert it to run emulator games.

Defeats the purpose of 'handheld'.. People still want a 'convenient' portable handheld device.

        Not really, See this https://imgur.com/AT0Mo8r

I converted my Surface pro to portable gaming

Yes and No. That looks cool my dude, but people want an all in one, that is the market. And yes that's portable, you can physically move that around but that's not considered portable for travelling on the bus, train, car etc. Most people are turned off by that. The appeal of these handhelds is the fact they are in most cases pocket sized and gives you that retro feel like a Game Boy. If you doing that to a surface Pro and using predominantly at home, I would rather just be using a PC or laptop. This may work for you and you think it's ok but that's not what the market wants.

  • Given it's been possible to run PS2 games on phones for what must be about a decade now, it's surprising these devices are still stuck on PS1, N64 etc.

    • It's certainly possible but how smooth is another thing. It's not so much the hardware but the software. There's plenty of handhelds that'll do PS2. I've just been posting the budget models not designed for anything higher 😉

    • As I've said previously the tech has been recently coming in hot.. It won't be long before we see ones that can run PS2 games and more in the next couple years. The industry is going gangbusters right now with these.

      • There's Android devices out there now that comfortably run the majority of the PS2 catalog.

        • A marketing point of these handhelds is because they are standalone gaming handhelds and not a mobile device. Some people want a dedicated gaming handheld.

          • @Justin9mm: Perhaps I wasn't clear. There's dedicated Android handheld gaming devices that aren't phones that can comfortably run the majority of the PS2 catalog.

            • @Orion au: Which ones are those? I know of the Pocket 3+ but that can't run many PS2 games smoothly at all and that's one of the leading ones I think.

@Justin9mm: The Odin Lite and Pro both run PS2. The GPD XP+ (I think) does too. The retroid Pocket 3+ can for many, but requires some tweaking of settings.

                • @Orion au: There's also an upcoming aya device as well, if people want a newer device from a brand as reputable as gpd.

    • Ermm, PS2 emulation on Android has only just become a thing in the last few years, and prior to AetherSX coming out last year, it was pretty poor.

      • I'm sure you could run GTA 3 on an Android smartphone nearly a decade ago.

        • Yeah but that's a native port. That's different to playing PS2 games. Emulation needs more resources.

What do I need to play Super Smash Bros 64? That's all I want to play lol!

  • Is this fine for Arcade/Mame?

These deals got me looking and instead I snagged a used Retroid Pocket 2 Plus for $110 from ebay auction.

  • anyone had shipping notification?

    • I have. Just landed at Destination Airport

  • For further info, in regards to this and ArkOS, do a search on RG351 on Youtube.

  • 351M owner, P is the plastic version which I think overall is an advantage. When it's cold the M version is quite cold to the touch, and for me mine develops condensation on the buttons and d-pad. It also heats up, so it is acting as a heatsink some what, not too hot too the touch but maybe 40-50c feels like.
P version should maintain a more consistent temperature and will absorb/give off less heat when it fluctuates.
Really nice system for GBA, that's why I bought it and it delivers, recommend a 3d printed grip from etsy etc.

  • how is geekbuying with warranty returns? Mine has developed a fault. Its just saying low battery and will not power on even if you leave it on charge.
