For anyone on the fence, this is a really good deal. Great handheld!

The post says it includes Wifi but the RG35XX does not have Wifi!

    • Yep you're right my bad.

      • Shipping is showing $2.11 via Priority or $35 with Expedited. How to get the free shipping?

        • +3

Looks like GB set it to white transparent and forgot the others. I'll get it fixed up.

  • +1

Sorry for the noob question but does this have games preinstalled?

    • +3

It will but it is always recommended to replace the SD card they come with as they are cheap and known to die. The includes Roms are usually of interesting quality and may be in Chinese, have poor translation, or lack the ability to save.

      • Thank you. Any advice if I just want a game boy experience, Tetris etc?

        • +4

This is pretty cheap for a quality device. Other than this, if price is the concern, I'd say maybe the Powkiddy V90. But if you ever want to play GBA games or PS1, this is the system

        • +4

Get an RG35XX a new SD card and put MinUI on it: https://github.com/shauninman/union-minui

      • Is it ok to buy the cheaper versions that dont come with an SD card and just use my own? Or do they have software or something special needed to use for the inital boot etc?

        • +6

Yes it's fine. Recommended too. You'll need to download either the Stock OS to an SD, or a custom firmware which is highly recommended. The Custom FW is called GarlicOS. Load that onto an SD card and she'll boot. This device has 2 SD card slots so it's recommended to run the OS on one, and have your roms on the other.

          • +1

@thecloudking: Not a necessity to 2 run 2 cards at all. Can run all on the 1 card. Just depends on the amount of roms you require, esp PS1 rom that are much larger in size.

      Google Tiny Best Set garlic

He has a set for the RG35XX and Miyoo Mini with Garlic or Onion OS

      • Garlic or Onion, which is the better … or maybe reword it ..which is the nicer to use without having to muck around getting it to work.

Are the screenshots anywhere of the twos system, I only see game screenshots.?

        • +1

          GarlicOS is for RG35xx
          OnionOS is for Miyoo

There are plenty of videos on Garlic OS, take a look at retro game corps one

  • +3

    When will this expire?

  • Can this run PC Engine CD games (at proper framerates?)

    • +4

Yep. Google "Miyoo Mini TinyBestSet CD" for the PC Engine CD (+Sega CD set). Install Garlic OS for the best out of the RG35XX. Can easily overclock with hotkeys for any games that you possibly run into issues with.

  • +3

Great deal. Newer models have been creeping up in price and for a retro emulation device it makes them much less appealing.

  • +12

    • +9

Retro Game Corps is a great channel that goes in depth on the RG35XX (and others).

If you're just looking to install GarlicOS then I recommend "OTG Gaming" for a straight to the point but thorough install guide.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OXT6_LfrRmE&list=PLOQxVtn26R…

Then Google "miyoo-mini-tiny-best-set" for a great romset that also works with the RG35XX including box art + BIOS files. There are 3 file sets from Atari all the way up to PS1 including PC Engine CD + Sega CD.

      • +2

Yeah retro game corps is fantastic. Loves how he goes into the details of these devices and. ETA Prime on the other hand total shill.

      • there's a new set called "Tiny Best Set: GO!"

  • Hmm I'm getting charged for Priority shipping $2.11

    • Sorry that's a mistake. I've asked GB to fix.

    • That's been fixed.

  • Thanks mate, grabbed two for the kids. Looking to grab 2 x 128gb SD cards. Is there any quirks with what card they will accept or good with any brand / model.

    • Samsung evo or sandisk ultra is plenty

      • -1

        How about this bad boy?

        • yeah that's an ok price, 256GB was $25 last week but 128GB is plenty and enough for the Tiny Best Set GO Rom Set

        • -1

Good price for small card for Garlic OS

          SanDisk 32GB Ultra microSDHC UHS-I Memory Card with Adapter - 120MB/s, C10, U1, Full HD, A1, Micro SD Card - SDSQUA4-032G-GN6MA https://amzn.asia/d/8COmhdd

  • thanks Clear, will pick up the grey once code is fixed.

Does everyone usualy tick the insurance or go without, and use paypal?

    • Fixed. PayPal will suffice if there's issues.

  • +1

I have a couple of ambernic earlier models and can't fault them for value in terms of quality and the food times playing old games.
They are good to play and well supported with good ux for the emulators.
    Good deal.

  • +2

Thanks. Didn't know I wanted one until now :D

    • +2

      *needed one ;)

  • -3

refreshing to see ozbargain supporting piracy for once

    • That's not a bargain! That's just free.

      • Im sure everyone is ripping their own roms or playing homebrew on these. Wink wink

        • +1

Don't forget to dump your gba bios ;)

    • +6

How is it piracy? These aren't illegal. If so ban Xbox, PlayStation and PC deals because you can certainly run pirated games on those.

      • +5

Does it not come with ROMs on the SD card?

      • +2

1: pretty sure it comes with ozbargain-approved roms on it
2: im sure everyone who uses these rips all their own roms or just plays free homebrew
3: didnt xbox just ban emulators?
4: never heard of a ps5 being used for emulation but id love to see a link

      • TBF, this only has one function; yes I already have one so I don’t care about piracy when we’re talking about 30 year old games.

        • +1

TBF, this only has one function

          Gaming on the shitter right?

      • -8

Unfortunately it is outright piracy looking at the list of games that come per-installed on the device.

"Q: How many games come pre-installed on the ANBERNIC RG35XX?
A: The 64GB SD card comes with 5,000 games, and the 64+128GB SD card will comes with 8,000 games."

        128GB Games List:
        https://geekbuying.mediafire.com/file/blfacttbvrg7fx2/RG35XX…

        • According to GeekBuying when I asked before sharing there are no included games.

          • -5

@Clear: I think you missed the part of the page where they say it comes with games, and then give you a list of said games…

        • Even if this is true who cares

        • -1

Of the 8000 games, how many have the companies still exist?

In other words, where would we buy these games legitimately?

I have no horse in the race - just asking?

  • +24

Good deal, I can't wait to play Red Dead Redemption 2 on the train

    • +3

Smooth performance and superior single dpad gameplay on a massive 3.5" screen has got to be the ultimate way to play RDR2

      • +2

Only better way to play it is going back in time and experiencing it for real

        • Nah you can do it nowdays, though its really hard to get your horse to catch a modern train to rob it - you can make do

      • +1

It can't actually run RDR2 can it?

        • +6

Think about it for a second. Why would they put it on the screen if it couldn't.

        • +3

          Maybe only screenshots of it

        • It can do Game streaming iirc? You totally could on that technicality

          • @SmoothCactus: No android on this one, need thr other deal for RG353V

    • Not sure if you're joking but just in case, there's no way this thing plays rdr. That's just a screenshot.

  • This coupon doesn’t work unless you sign up. So I joined and then the coupon still doesn’t work. I then changed to the smaller storage Anbernic option and the coupon then works.

    • +2

You don't want the 64+128 model anyway, they use very cheap sd cards that will most likely fail

Best to get the 64 and add your own SD cards

16+128 for GarlicOS & Rom card

  • +2

    How long is shipping generally?

  • Grabbed one, thanks op.
    Love these sorts of gadgets.

  • +2

This is the older 2100 mah version. There is a newer one which is 2600 mah. Other than Anbernic's own website, not sure if it is sold anywhere else.

    • +1

I got it from Ampown Official Store on AliExpress and got the 2600 battery, purple colour (I believe purples were the first to get the bigger battery so that would probably help your chances).

      • Thanks i'll check it out

    • +2

FYI just received mine (grey color) and it is 2600 mAh version

  • Nice! Thanks!

  • Shipping notice already, usually GB would take a while to ship.

  • Cant get the code to work for some reason
    Edit, worked with the app.

  • +1

    Bought one. Review: https://youtu.be/sInNbUIgN-w

  • Hey OP what’s Garlic os for the device? Can it be upgraded?

    • Custom firmware, plenty of videos on it comparing to stock OS.

Easily done and plenty of easy tutorials to follow

      • Ok. Thanks

  • +1

As tempted as i am to get one to tinker with, im unsure if i need another handheld beyond a hacked 3ds and a ds with a r4 card…..

  • Any point getting this device if one already has a jailbroken switch?

    • imo no. save for a steam deck or the rog ally if it's really $700 USD

    • +1

Well I have an unpatch switch, an rg351 and steamdeck but just got one of these… different form factors and portability. Plus the kids play with them.

It really comes down to your personal circumstances.

    • I agree with George here. Still worth it. I'd be inclined to get something like this to throw in your bag to play 8/16 bit games whilst you're out and about.

If you don't need a device for that kind of scenario, then the switch is probably enough though.

    • Yeah, I have a similar one, sits in my pocket and comes out when I have a spare 5 minutes every now and then.

  • +2

I got one of these a few weeks ago for a similar price, strongly recommend if you're even mildly interested in retro gaming.

It plays up to PS1 flawlessly and just offers such a great gaming experience. It's so good to have a little device that boots up and you're playing a game in a matter of seconds, especially as Garlic OS does a save state whenever you exit a game so you just jump straight back into it as soon as it boots up.

If you grab one definitely install Garlic OS and also don't use the SD card it comes with as it's utter rubbish.

    • With SD card it comes with do you need to take all the information off it and copy it into a new SD card? What size and brand SD card do you recommend to get. Thanks

      • No, google Tiny Rom Set GO for a curated pack

        Get a 16 + 128 combo for Garlic OS & Rom card

        Samsung or sandisk

        1. No, the roms it comes with are generally poor quality and have issues with saving or otherwise. As mentioned by impoze, google Tiny Best Set Roms and you'll get a great pack of roms there. Also since you're using a new SD card, you'll need to install a custom firmware as the firmware is stored on the SD, not the console itself. Search up Garlic OS and follow RetroGameCorps guide.

        2. I got a 128gb SanDisk SD card, honestly a bit overkill imo but it gives peace of mind that you'll never run out of space. I downloaded the Tiny Best Set but found myself deleting a lot of the games that I simply have no interest in.

        • Great info, thanks for this. Hanging out for mine to be delivered.

Have a hacked PSP, 3ds and a few rpis running retropie but I can't go past a new retro gaming gadget.

  • To the OP - Any love for older RG280V?

  • +3

Damn, I've been searching for deals on this for weeks but couldn't find any so I just bought one last week from Aliexpress (it ended up being ~$89 [inc. tax]), and it'll arrive in 2 weeks.
Would've tried Geekbuying if this deal was active then.
Anyways crossing my fingers that it arrives with nil QC issues.

Hoping to get the newer 2600 mah battery version, but if I get 2100mah I know it's possible to get the 2800 mah battery from Aliexpress if I want to upgrade.
Been holding onto my SD cards to use for this game system.

There's an active subreddit /r/rg35xx which is quite useful. From guides on custom firmware (such as Garlic OS, Batocera, FinUI [formerly MinUI]), scraping box art, cosmetic themes/overlays, mods (i.e. D-Pad button fix) to game suggestions. It's unfortunate the mods currently listed on Etsy tend to be expensive due to shipping…

    • How to tell battery type?

      • +1

From what I've read, you won't be able to to tell until it arrives and you test the run time tbh.
Some people have found that their battery labelled '2100 mah' was actually the newer '2600 mah' so the stickers were not accurate.
Just note that the listed '3500 mah' batteries on Aliexpress are reportedly still only 2800 mah. Worth buying if you got a 2100, but not really worth if you have a 2600.
Also be really careful opening it up and not overtightening the screws when closing it.., the clear cases are brittle and prone to cracking.

        • Run time difference between the 2?
