Question Answer
1. Is Boost operated by Telstra network? Yes, on the full Telstra network
2. Does Boost support 5G? Yes, for all Boost prepaid customers and it is currently on trial until 3 April 2023
From 4 April 2023, 5G network access will be included as standard on your service and we’ll be introducing capped download speed caps on our 4G and 5G networks
3. Does Boost support e-SIM? Sadly not at this stage. However there are plans to do so
4. Do you have to activate the SIM within 30 days? Every Cashrewards Boost cashback up to and including Feb 28 has been approved (confirmed by TA) - provided you activated within 30 days of order
5. How long is the SIM expiry? Usually 1 year, but to qualify for cashback the SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering
6. It is showing “new customer” on Boost website. What does this mean? New customer term is only for the additional Boost data, and nothing to do with the cashback offer
7. Can I receive international text message (aka int. roaming) with this SIM by default? Yes, you can receive SMS while overseas, but can’t send outgoing to Australia
8. How long does it take to receive the SIM? According to the Boost Rep: Once dispatched, you should receive your order within the following business days: Metro Areas – 2-5 business days for capital cities – Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart & Brisbane (order before 4pm). Non Metro or Regional / remote areas – 3-7 business days
9. Is porting in a Telstra number to Boost considered a "new customer"? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Porting a number from Telstra to Boost is definitely considered a new customer
10. Are you able to purchase multiple plans using different names / ID (or can I purchase 4 x plans for the family using my own details)? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Received clarification from the team and this is a tricky one since for compliance the terms is showing the customer is only allowed 1 sim per transaction but he can buy multiple SIMs and then activate them all under his name and he will then be able to manage all the numbers when he logs into the App with his Boost ID.
11. Information on what to do when the "please try again later" message comes up List of indicators that can affect how your order is flagged in different financial systems, which can hopefully help you understand what is going wrong
12. Can this be used to recharge? No, this is a starter pack. But you can ask a CSR to use the starter kit as a recharge. I think technically the service is activated on a new number and then your existing number/account is migrated across. The outcome is basically the same. Voicemail greeting needs to be recorded again.

    • Who do you prefer? What do you dislike about Boost?

    • But they use the full Telstra network…

So is it really Telstra that you don’t like?

      • They are Telstra, even use telstra ID to log into account now .. lol sooo i guess the commentor doesnt like Telstra hehe

        • LOL

          Let’s hope they’re not a voter. Probably are…

@tightarse A $35 cashback with this to end up April would be amazing, waiting for your aura to kick in

Anyone perhaps looking for more data - https://boost.com.au/products/300-prepaid -sim is also reduced to $260

      • I was on boost couple of years before but now with coles mobile - will I be considered a new customer if i port-in to boost with this plan? or to be in this plan you must get a new boost number?

will I be considered a new customer if i port-in to boost with this plan

          yep

@sween64: Thanks @sween64 I paid $241 to buy the $300 card from ebay link posted by @UNFKNBLVBL

            • @slackerman: Thanks paying the $241 down from $300 with vouchers for 240gb was my best plan of attack. I spoke to chat and confirmed I’d get it even though I’m a current user to save me porting out and back.

    • +1

$241 if with eBay plus ($20 voucher and also $8 voucher

  • I have the $40 boost sim that I've not activated yet, was planning on doing it and porting over from Telstra next week. I guess I can't just buy the 12 month sim and use that as recharge next month?

      FAQ 12

      • I did see it but is that a sure thing, especially with many people looking to port over or get a fresh service with this deal?
I wouldn't want to deal with the headache of going back and forth with customer care, already suffered enough with both telstra and optus.

        • +1

It’s not a sure thing but most people have success.

  • Boost is great. I'm looking forward to the esim

  • Guys help me please. I’m on Boost mobile and it expires in 43 days. Can I buy this starter pack now for this awesome price and recharge it?

I have a thread open and someone told me I don’t have to port out to another provider. Once my current package expires in 42 days I can use the new starter pack by messaging in live chat. Is this correct?

      FAQ 12

      • +4

Poor @bargaingrabber, all that work & nobody reads it.

      • But do the customer service team do this or does it depend on who you get?

        • +1

It's not supposed to be used as a recharge so some CSR may decline your request.

I did it though without problem, my SIM was faulty so I went and bought a starter pack as a replacement. I just said the shop didn't have any $2 SIMS and needed my number back urgently. (My SIM was actually faulty though - was getting SOS error but just so needed to recharge at the same time coincidentally lol)

  • +2

Boost may be on the telstra network but it feels like it's on their poor cousin's network. Poor reception and slow in places I normally get fast connections on my telstra line.

Thanks OP. Called Officeworks 1300 number and they price matched Lucky Mobile .
Opted for store pick up instead of delivery.

    • +1

Last time called them was told they don't PM lucky mobile

      • Maybe try again and this time you might get someone who can price match. I got 2 sim cards one for me & wife.

    • Thanks … I did the same .. they agreed to do but couldn't pay so went to the store .. they happily beat the price …

    • I called once yesterday and twice today but they refused to price-beat Lucky Mobile and mentioned that their support team has told them not to do.

Take notice light data users … Newsagents & Convenience Stores are still selling $150 / 80 gb recharge receipts until their price rise on 4th July 2023, from which time only $230 & $300 receipts will be on offer. They have stated that all receipts sold prior to 4/7/23 will be honoured.

    • Supermarkets also sell recharge vouchers.

      • Care to explain what are recharge vouchers, and I am currently on Boost 200, can I use this recharge voucher, what is the procedure for an existing boost customer to use this recharge vouchers Thanks

      • I had a look for these recharge vouchers where may I ask? Is it at the self checkout machines?

  • If anyone has leftover discounted Ultimate or TCN gift cards, would be a better option trying for a price beat at Officeworks.

  • What are the equivalent recharge options for the existing Boost customers?

  • $150 / 80gb, $200 / 140gb, $300 / 260gb at Newsagents & Convenience Stores

    • What’s the $150/80GB equivalent to in the current plans?

I thought the $150 is the now $200, becoming $230 later.

  • +1

So the deal is good and all, but I've found the network to be pretty crap in Victoria. I never had any real reception or speed issues with Optus (Catch) but since switching to boost I find myself constantly experiencing very slow speeds and dead spots when driving.

  • If I ask the online chat agent to recharge my current 12-month prepaid plan 1 week before the expiry date, will the new 12-month plan starts today and I will loose the 1 week? Thanks.

    • Yes you'll lose a week

  • Is there a code to use? it shows $200 st check out.

    • BOOST170

      • Thanks Sunny10!after putting down the code, it'sasking me for my name and DOB and mobile number. Is this normal? Why do they need my DOB for the purchase?

        • It seems setting up your profile and when you purchase it, you will then get an activated sim delivered

          • @Sunny10: That's a problem as I don't want it to be activated straight away. My current sim expires in more than a month..any solutions?

            • @lily99: Purchase is separate to activation. You can purchase without activation. Telcos will ask for name and DOB due to perceived security requirements by ACMA.

              • @sween64: I just tried again, it's even asks for your driver license. I feel it's ridiculous. These can wait till you activate the sim.

  • It's only 20G more data compared to coles/amaysim equivalent 120G plan often on sale at $119, any unique advantage with boost?
(genuine question since see so many upvotes)

    • +1

      Telstra Network

    • +1

If you don't have any issues with Coles, then the Coles one is fine but I went with them once and NEVER again. Such poor reception and I'm around 50 mins from melb CBD

      • Thx gotcha

  • I’m a bit confused. I got 42 days until my plan expires. The $200 SIM card pack states I need to activate recharge by 8th of May. If I recharge after 8th May isn’t it going to work?

    • +2

I could be wrong but it means u only will get 130GB of data.

      • I’m more confused now. Why would I get 130GB instead of 140GB data?
Is this kit valid for after 8th May activation? I can’t find the details.

    • Does it ask your DOB and mobile number while checking out?

    • Does it ask your DOB and mobile number while checking out?

      • Now it is asking not before

  • I want to purchase the sim for a family member, can I use my details (name, email address and address) to order it, and activate it under my family member's details or would it confuse the system?

    • can I use my details (name, email address and address) to order it, and activate it under my family member's details

      Yep

  • @alvian Where did you get the 3 July expiry from? I suspect this deal will end sooner.

    • +1

The expiry should not have been added as that might mislead users to think they have plenty of time left to purchase. The 3/7 was initially entered because the $200 pack will become unavailable from the scheduled price rise on 4/7.

  • What happens to this starter pack if activating after the scheduled price rise? Do we need to add funds to achieve the closest tier?

    • +1

Unlikely but unsure. You could search back and find the answers for when the plan went from $150 to $200.

  • oh ffs, where was this last week when i needed it?!

I’ve spent $40 so far in trying to save a little. Started with a port to Optus, but because they’re shit, it took 5 days, so put $10 on my old Boost…
    Not happy Jan!

  • Guys what’s the expiry of this deal as in if I purchase the kit by what date I need to recharge my plan?
My current plan expires 10th of June. What happens if I activate after 10th of June?

Surely someone pulled the trigger before.

    • +1

You might only get 130GB instead of 140GB as the bonus 10GB is due to end soon. Otherwise the Starter Kit will have an expiry date that is we’ll past June 2023 so there won’t be any issues.

      • That’s great. So I’m going to pull the trigger or do you get any bonus for renewing 365 days with Boost? For example catch gives you 25% off when you renew.

I’m okay with getting just 130GB a year more than enough for me.

  • Has anyone tried price match at OW?

    • +1

Got mine priced matched in store with Lucky Mobile. Come out to $161.41

  • Btw from boost website what does first and second recharge means here?

“ 140GB on first recharge and 130GB on second recharge. New customers only who activate by 8 May 2023.”

    • First recharge is activation. Second recharge is the recharge a year later.

      • Since I’m already on boost that means even if customer rep recharges my account it’ll be second recharge and I’ll get less GB?

        • Nope. I got the 140GB when I got the CSR to swap me over.

  • -2

Has anyone got a luck price match at Office works?

  • When activating your new boost sim, do they have a list of prepaid numbers to choose from similar to Amaysim?

    • Nope, phone number comes with the Starter Pack.

  • +1

Officeworks didn't price match because the price on the Boost website is $200, and we have to apply a coupon code to make it $170 :(

    • Price match to Lucky Mobile then.

  • +2

Called OW 1800 number, just told they wont match lucky mobile at all. So might just be bad luck.

  • What is Boost’s delivery timeframe like with sending out the SIM? My current Voda plan ends on Thurs.

    • FAQ 8

      • Apologies, my bad.

    • my last order of $40 sim took 12 days to reach Melbourne, so ymmv

  • What's been the lowest price ever for this 12month plan?

    • +1

About $135 after cash back and discounted down from $200.

  • +5

I just selected recharge 12 months on my existing Boost number through the boost website and it offered me $170 for 12 months; alot easier than mucking around with customer service. Could be worth others checking

    • showing me 200

  • Guys shall I press the trigger and get this deal as my current boost expires in 10th of June? I’ll need to get CSR to transfer the credit to my existing number.
The fine line of this deal is to active by 10th of May. Let’s say I activate after 10th June what happens then?

To avoid the drama of OW rejecting price matching I’ll buy this directly from boost at $170.

    • There’s $20 cashback via Cashrewards if you activate within 30 days of purchase.

  • can we buy 2 packs and activate one now and one next year?

    • Yep. It would depend on the expiry date of the pack. A $40 pack I bought recently has an expiry date of May 2024.

  • If i purchase this and after 12 months is up and I need to recharge with Boost, will my data rollover and accumulate?

    • No data rollover on 12 month plans.

  • I am sorry if this has been asked before and I already tried searching.. What's the best way to transfer from Telstra prepaid to boost? Can I do this directly using this started kit or do I have to buy may be an Optus SIM card and do the porting..?

    Thank you in advance

    • I think you can just port. Otherwise speak to a CSR.

  • What happens if we activate after 4th July 2023? Do we have to pay for the price increase?
