FAQ thanks to BG

Question Answer
1. Is Boost operated by Telstra network? Yes, on the full Telstra network
2. Does Boost support 5G? Yes, for all Boost prepaid customers and it is currently on trial until 3 April 2023
From 4 April 2023, 5G network access will be included as standard on your service and we’ll be introducing capped download speed caps on our 4G and 5G networks
3. Does Boost support e-SIM? Sadly not at this stage. However there are plans to do so
4. Do you have to activate the SIM within 30 days? Every Cashrewards Boost cashback up to and including Feb 28 has been approved (confirmed by TA) - provided you activated within 30 days of order
5. How long is the SIM expiry? Usually 1 year, but to qualify for cashback the SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering
6. It is showing “new customer” on Boost website. What does this mean? New customer term is only for the additional Boost data, and nothing to do with the cashback offer
7. Can I receive international text message (aka int. roaming) with this SIM by default? Yes, you can receive SMS while overseas, but can’t send outgoing to Australia
8. How long does it take to receive the SIM? According to the Boost Rep: Once dispatched, you should receive your order within the following business days: Metro Areas – 2-5 business days for capital cities – Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart & Brisbane (order before 4pm). Non Metro or Regional / remote areas – 3-7 business days
9. Is porting in a Telstra number to Boost considered a "new customer"? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Porting a number from Telstra to Boost is definitely considered a new customer
10. Are you able to purchase multiple plans using different names / ID (or can I purchase 4 x plans for the family using my own details)? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Received clarification from the team and this is a tricky one since for compliance the terms is showing the customer is only allowed 1 sim per transaction but he can buy multiple SIMs and then activate them all under his name and he will then be able to manage all the numbers when he logs into the App with his Boost ID.
11. Information on what to do when the "please try again later" message comes up List of indicators that can affect how your order is flagged in different financial systems, which can hopefully help you understand what is going wrong
12. Can this be used to recharge? No, this is a starter pack. But you can ask a CSR to use the starter kit as a recharge. I think technically the service is activated on a new number and then your existing number/account is migrated across. The outcome is basically the same. Voicemail greeting needs to be recorded again.

  • How about this if we can’t price beat with officeworks?

I'd prefer to buy from Boost rather than Lucky but that's just me.

Officeworks is unlikely to price beat Lucky, memos went around previously to not honour it.

      • They are an actual store though, so it's legit. I went to a store and the guy claimed it didn't exist, but a Google search reveals a store location with photo and a phone number, so it should be legit.

        • It's worth a try.

          • +3

@sween64: I have tried it yesterday and officeworks( Adelaide city) price beat Luckymobile for me. Got it for $161.5 without any issue. This is second time in two months I have got it from officeworks for same price. YMMV

      • +3

They did it for me but I think I got lucky as the guy on the counter seemed a little out of it and the manager that came to log in was busy and didn't really pay attention to what he was approving.

      • +1

I managed to successfully price beat Lucky Mobile via Officeworks within the last 4 weeks

        • What brisbane store did you PB? It seems a hit and miss. Im in search for a boost sim 12 month one

          • @milanoxpress: I managed to do the gabba and city stores

            • @reivaxX: Thanks for the info. OW WestfieldGardenCity is famous for not PB. They do not honour other legit stores price.
Weird & unprofessional store I reckon

      • True. OW clearly told me that they have received a message from the support team don't price match with Lucky mobile. so it will be a time waste even if u try

        • How do they get away with these arbitrary exclusions?

Their website clearly states it's a price beat guarantee. If they are going to wriggle out of it, they need to state it in their terms and conditions.

I've only ever tried to price beat at OW once. They infuriated me. It's not a guarantee at all, it's completely their choice.

      • i went in yesterday to OW chaddy and no problems in price beat. very easy

    • +2

Same, Officeworks price matched Lucky Mobile within the last month for me.
      $161.50 for 365 day expiry, 140Gb

      • Can you do this online or do you need to go into a physical store?

      • You are lucky then. I went and called but was told they can't.

    • Worth a try. I tried last time, they didn’t do it for me. So I went to lucky mobile store to buy it, it’s in Adelaide Chinatown.

      • as per office works terms codes arent valid to get price beat, Cashback and coupon offers (i.e. supplier cashback or reduced price available via paper coupon or electronic codeword)

    • +1

I tried yesterday, but they refused and said that Head Office had asked them not to price beat Lucky Mobile anymore.

    • Officeworks refused to price beat with lucky mobile, the manager said due to the website provide no information on lucky mobile and also no product code. He cannot compare the two products to ensure they are identical.

Personally thinking about switching to Woolworths Sim at least the 10% off helps with groceries

    • Link?

I regret my move from Boost to WW. Terrible service… Boost is worth the money even with the normal price of $200

      • +1

Currently with boost, May Sim slut slut for a month and come back.

        • That's what I'll be doing also, thinking of giving the Kogan small plan (Vodafone network) at try for $5.

          https://www.koganmobile.com.au/plans/mobile/

Did the same thing for the wife a few months ago and the Vodafone service in the areas we travel seems to be pretty good for us.

          • +1

@shutuptakemymoney101: Just did this today. So far the $5 Kogan is good, had problems with preauthorisation while signing up but after a quick call to kogan (Vodafone) was resolved. I got the esim works very well.

I hope to get back to boost soon. Real test for Kogan is commuting tomorrow.

      • No issues with ww here

    • +2

I have tried wooly… Their network is damn so shit… Signal issues… Not as good as boost…

      • +3

yeah it the povo telstra network

    • +1

Woolies recently upped prices on their long expiry plans.

    • I churned from WW Mobile 18 months ago and still get 10% off somehow.

I paid $161.30 here today https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/274613561734 I was able to use 2 coupon codes (ebay prompted me for both) I have ebay plus but if you are looking to buy and have ebay plus maybe check here first

    • I have got the same email from eBay. Do you know within how many days we need to activate this ?

      • on the listing it says Activate by 12/2024 but I think if you activiate before the 8th of May this year you get bonus data, not 100% sure though sorry

        • Thanks you for the response. 😊

        • +1

Bonus data is only 10GB, 140 instead of 130. Also bonus offers are often extended.

          • @sween64: So that means, if we buy this, we can wait until 12/2024 to activate it and we will get 130GB data.. right ?

    • +3

      Just buy from here
Had 2 codes at once popes up.
      -$20 off
      -$8
      Total: $156.30

      • That's the price I got it at too! I have ebay plus if that matters.

        • I also have ebay plus but could not get this price..

Do you remember which code you used for the $20 off?

    • +1

shows $166 for me 1 code $8 off and another code $10 off

    • +1

      showing 166.3 using ebay plus.
Edit- played around with other sellers and found the code giving $15off instead of 10. Seems 15 off is a unique code.

      • What's the format of that code? Can't find it.

        • I used it so can't find any longer. it started with something like SHXXXX. it appeared when I looked for an item over $200.

    • +3

Thanks. Managed to stack with Student Edge $20 off code and paid with discounted gift card so total came to around $145.

      • +1

I forgot about this, thank you! Got it for $156.30.

      • Is there a link to StudentEdge that you could share?

        • +2

Here you go, but you need a student email address.

Alternatively you could try Student Beans which should work for everyone if you follow the instructions from this post.

          • @xers: Thank you, appreciate d the detailed info!

      • Mate could you please explain how you used the student edge discount. It seems like student edge gives a generic code STUDEN**20 which when I applied at ebay checkout says wrong code. Seems like this item is not eligible for that discount. How could you manage to stack it.

        Thank you

    • I am only getting $10 and $8 off if apply two coupons. The final price coming as $166.30

    • Oos

    • Annoying when auspost doesn't even try to deliver the SIM to your door and just leaves a missed delivery card in your letterbox to pickup from the post office.
This happened to me today for this eBay order.

  • When does the Sim expire?

  • 140GB on first recharge and 130GB on second recharge. New customers only who activate by 8 May 2023.

Wonder what happens if you active after that date

    • 130GB or some other new offer

  • How do you price beat officeworks with use of coupon code?

    • Call Officeworks and ask. Head to in to a store and ask and show them the cart.

  • How can an existing customer be a new customer without porting out?

    • FAQ 12

      • +1

I wasn't able to do that this morning (after having successfully done it in previous months)

        • I did it just a couple of weeks ago. Maybe try again and you'll get a different CSR. Maybe they are cracking down on it due to the forthcoming price changes.

        • +1

I had the same issue - they’re not doing this via Chat, but I was able to make this work by activating the new sim (and going through the full id verification process), then getting their call centre rep to transfer the number from my old device to the new one. Same result, just took a little longer.

          • +2

@Shrewd: That’s funny, I just chatted to boost online chat and they said boost would transfer my existing boost mobile number across to the new sim. No need to port in and out .

            • @boozler: Is it an ultimate hack for existing customers?
(easy way to use new starter kits for existing Boost subscriptions).

  • Does this mean $170 with $3.90 cashback costing only $166.10?

    • Or $4.20 with cash rewards. Although often unlisted coupon codes will void the cash back.

  • +1

With these free boost sims.. I'm thinking of just porting in and out and saving $170. Tho I'm not sure who to port out to that isn't expensive. I use minimal data.

    • amaysim?

  • Is i am porting from another provider to boost, would that be considered as a new customer?

    • yep

  • Can Boost be used for international roaming?

  • I’ve already used 135 of my 140 gb and the plan doesn’t expire until November. Can anyone suggest my best plan of attack?

    • +3

Yes don't waste anymore data unless you absolutely must.

    • +2

If your phone has dual sim or e-sim see if you can add in an additional cheap sim. Mate and Tangerine are two telcos offering free or cheap $1 a month plans for the first couple months.

    • +2

      Just get a new SIM.

      260GB for $260

Unfortunately no option to add data.

    • +1

Dual sim phone and get Boost 28 day sims for free or profit when posted on here. Turn data on for 2nd sim, winning.

    • +1

I am about to move to Boost, just also have the same question.
in the case of Bennybaubles is having. So if he chooses to recharge a new plan like the existing $200 ($170) for 130GB (since existing customer).

      will he

      1. streight away having 5GB+130GB=135GB in his data? and the expire date extended till Nov of next year.
      2. get 135gb, expire date April of next (counting 12 months from the day of recharge)
      3. get 130gb (the existing 5gb got wiped), expire date April of next (counting 12 months from the day of recharge), or
      4. Else case? please explain..
      • +1

Yes, the unused portion of data will rollover. I believe a new 12 month period would begin from the day you recharge so (2).

Alternatively he can port to another provider for a day (using a $2 sim) then re-port back to Boost to maximise savings.

EDIT: I checked the CIS and it appears data rollover is not mentioned on the 12 month SIMS - so ignore this! A recharge for a 12 month plan I believe would fully wipe and restart your usage.

        https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0490/0896/7844/files/CIS_2…

      • If bennybaubles recharged early he would have

        • 5GB (the exisiting) expiring Nov 2023 and
        • 130GB (recharge) expiring Apr 2024

The 5GB should get used first

  • Can you use Boost overseas with vowifi on a foreign data sim?

    • +2

Yep, I've done it. Can also receive SMS.

    • +1

Yes that is a question that should be in the FAQ.

We were in Bali last Xmas and I used VoWifi receive and initiated calls connected to the resorts' wifi network without issues as well as using on foreign data sim. Had to call the back to Australia to talk to a doctor on our last day there after our daughter got bitten by a resort dog to ask for advice and it worked flawlessly.

  • Is officeworks pricebeat available for online purchases or do you need to go in store?

    • -1

Give them a call, they can process the online

      • How does that work, you add it to your cart and then give them your officeworks online account and they can edit the price?

        • -1

          Not sure, never done it.

          • -1

@sween64: then it sounds like you can only do it in person, never heard of a phone call updating an online order price before

  • -6

Boost sucks balls, I regret changing over them them everytime I buy into one of these prepaid deals.
