Will they let me in if I rock up in an electric Vespa?

    • As long as it is registered with the government as a full EV and you pay the $50 for the ticket, i can't see why not.

    • +1

I'll rock up on an electric lawnmower

  • +7

Lol, they should be screening "Who Killed the Electric Car?".

    • +1

      A: Conservative voters

  • Electric or Electronic

  • +1

Let me buy a Fully-Electric Vehicle so I can claim this free drive-in cinema tix, hopefully it get delivered before screen time.

    • Renting an EV might be a viable option

    • +2

Oh wait I already have a Segway Max G30, that should do.

    • Good call. It'll have to be Polestar though if you want a free ticket. Otherwise you could rent any EV for the night for the Evee free ticket referenced here. Looks like there are a few Tesla Model 3s around Sydney available for $180 if you want to go that route.

    • It is almost as if the event is for people who already have an EV or as an extra in to hire one to trial it.

  • +2

Wonder if it's worth picking up a kids' electric ride-on for this. Def cheaper than a Tesla.

  • +4

    Peak of incentives.

    • +2

It’s actually not bad. I like drive ins and being surrounded by quiet assume decent EVs and their drivers might be nice

Beats the crowd at Blacktown drive in!

      • +6

Nothing can beat the crowd at Blacktown drive ins except maybe Chuck Norris

      • +4

Yes, the price of admission pretty much guarantees that you’ll keep the riff-raff out

  • +4

Should be for those that can't afford an electric vehicle.

    • +1

Teslas are great to sleep in. The solution to the homeless crisis is staring us in the face

      • -3

thats because Teslas are the best EV.

  • Scooter?

  • I wonder how many owners will have the car on, resulting in their lights bugging everyone

EV's still have a 12V battery or no? So just running the radio will be draining the main battery?

    • +7

If the car can drive hundreds of kilometres on its battery, I'm sure it'll be fine running the radio for a few hours.

      • It actually depends. EVs usually have a 12V/auxiliary battery in addition to the high voltage 400V main battery - generally a pretty small one. Some EVs are better than others at managing the charge of the 12V battery - but I have in fact managed to drain the 12V battery by leaving the car parked with something running off the 12V outlet. It was so frustrating because all I needed was enough power to turn on the electronics in the car enough for the car to turn on the DC-DC converter to charge the 12V battery from the main battery.

        • +1

I just went to the first movie night - I was wondering how the battery power was going to go (I've only had an EV for 6 weeks) - but it definitely wasn't a problem (for me or anyone else it seems - everyone just drove off when the movie finished)

You leave your car "On" so you can still use your cars sound system, climate control, heating, and so on (the movie audio played via an app on your phone connected to the car's entertainment system)

So even with 3 hours of having the car "on" just sitting there with the climate control, entertainment system on (and even the dash in my car) and so on (you manually switch your headlights off of course) it only used perhaps 2% of my cars main battery over the 3 hours

    • +1

About the same number as at a normal drive in outdoor cinema? There is no difference in that regard.

    • Change is so hard on the individual, innit?

    • The temptation to play with the big screen in the car too

  • +2

my eBike doesn't have a rego plate

  • No love for Victoria.

  • +7

Car discrimmination is the new thing or rather crowding out low income groups :(

    • -6

its called Sydney c$^Ys at there finest thats why 90% of the country hates sydney.

      • +7

Qik mafs. Over 20% of the country lives in Sydney. It’s also ‘their’. I’m usually not that guy, but I think you were asking for it ;)

        Regards,
        C$^Y from Sydney.

        • +1

there there there there there. I will make sure I say this to all sydney people just to piss them off. :D pretty sure the number is below 20% now since record amount of people are moving to better states.

          • @kungfuman: Haha I’m just stirring the pot. I wouldn’t advise calling people such things in general. But let me know how you go, lol. If I don’t hear back from you, I’ll know why.

      • ^This statement is art

    • It's just a marketing activity by polestar. They'll probably make a lot of the money back on food.

  • -6

    The tofu-eating wokerati strike again

    • +6

      What does that even mean

      • Ask the dumb Tory who said it. No one knows.

      • I'd wonder why 'tofu' an insult. Is the connotation that it's to do with veganism? Tofu is in heaps of East Asian and South East Asian dishes with meat in them.

  • Super mario bros sold out

  • +6

I would just park my tesla there leave and then keep pressing the fart button remotely.

    • +1

Tesla owners have a better imagination than most

      • +1

Pity they have a worse sense of humour than most too :D

  • +4

    This is discrimination. It’s Petrophobic.

  • +8

The wealthy get all the freebies.

  • I got an electric esky?

  • +1

    Electric scooter count?

    • +1

Does it have a NSW Registration? :)

      • +1

Evidently not with the fines I've been getting, “unregistered motor vehicle”

      • No apparently Queenslanders get in free 😀

    • +2

No, it would remind everyone of a time when cars were fun.

  • +1

    This is automobile racism!

  • cant afford one, so this is not fair

  • +5

What if my car identifies as an Electric vehicle? Translectric..

  • +4

Love to make a drive in for V8's only! I'd love to see the 'uproar' it would create.

    Karens, line up here…..

    • What about LC300 owners.

    • Yeah I'm sure it'd be the scandal of the century…

  • +2

Because EV owners are definitely the ones most in need of free admission

  • +1

Seems a bit car-ist to me

  • You guys seen those electric hummers?

    5.5m long, 2m tall.

Weigh 4,200kg and do 0-100 in 3 seconds.

    • Drivers of that: “I am become death..”

    • Hot tip: don’t order an electric hummer from AliExpress, as you’re bound to be disappointed

  • I’d be offended if I owned a plug in hybrid

  • My EV cant turn off the DRL, it would be a nightmare to be at a drive in cinema if I wanted to have the radio on.

    • Ah yes, this could turn into a potential shit show.

Headlights left on everywhere, and broken down cars due to dead auxillary batteries from leaving the 50" infotainment running and heated seats on.

      • I just went to the first movie night - I was wondering how the battery power was going to go (I've only had an EV for 6 weeks) - but it definitely wasn't a problem (for me or anyone else it seems - everyone just drove off when the movie finished)

Cool deal for Coal powered car owners

    • +2

A better argument would be this

      • And he basically explained why you are much better off with a solar panel and battery set up for your house ,
        then getting an ev ,
makes sense in an ecological argument .

If you’re using the grid presently for charging then you are mostly running on coal power ,
and John the Bogan comparing a small ev to a duel cab ute CO2 emitted just because they weigh the same doesn’t make sense either ,
if you compare a civic to a leafs CO2 emissions over ten years I think it would surprise you if the leafs battery was still viable by the time it actually used lessCO2 than a similar sized ice vehicle .

        Don’t get me wrong ,
Im all for less greenhouse gas.
But I’m for real solutions to the problem.
Like large solar , wind , tidal and geothermal farms .
Pumped hydro and more of the newest tech batteries
And getting rid of coal mines that emit more methane each , than some European countries.

Driving a Tesla does f-all and close to nothing except give elon huge US govt subsidies so he can play with his kerosene powered rockets .

  • Polestar movie night…. Sounds very different on paper. …Parent company name in an Aussie accent doesnt help in clarifying the event.

  • Awesome fun - a big 'ol EV circle jerk

  • Does anyone have some jumper leads they can lend for the night?

  • Not going to lie - if I had paid anything to be here I would be complaining and getting a refund! Between the rave concert thing happening downstairs, the terrible quality audio and just overall unimpressive experience I can’t imagine anyone happily paid to be here.

I am impressed by the owner of an older car (not sure what type) that is clearly not an EV but has the EV on the rego plate so I’m guessing that’s how it got in… surely a fellow ozbargainer?

    • haha the fatboy slim concert was going off! Did notice that icev - did they actually have a ev rego plate?

Wish the Polestars could turn off their back lights

    • Complete opposite when we went last night for the super Mario bros movie.
No raving going on, audio was in sync and the kids loved it. Sorry you had a bad experience :(

      • Everything was good last night, but the 30MB audio track for a 90min movie was unsurprisingly poor quality. Have sent feedback that they should allow a far higher bit rate download (in the range of 10-50x what they had).
