[SUBS] Oppenheimer (2024) Movie Streaming Ends Friday 21 March @ Netflix

188

I was going to post this a week ago and forgot about it until I saw the other Oppie post.

so I read on ozb and also on reddit that Netflix is force cancelling those on the old cheaper Basic Sub (Adfree tier) and a lot of comments saying yeah they are not going to sign up again at a higher price ad free tier.

so for those who have a cancelled renewal and are on their last month of cheap Ad free Basic tier, to get the most of your less than 1 month left you should catch the 3 hour recent release Oppenheimer before it is removed!

The story of the bomb that changed the world

Oppenheimer is the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer, a theoretical physicist who led the Manhattan Project. The Manhattan Project was the codename for the US development of the atomic bomb. The film takes place during World War II, where Oppenheimer worked for the Los Alamos Laboratory and created the historic bombs that were deployed in August 1945 in Nagasaki and Hiroshima, Japan.

    And the bargain is??

    • -1

If only there was a way to filter out streaming deals so you never have to see them again…

      • +21

This almost deserves a category of its own on its own website or something. Movies about to stop streaming or something. Honestly, deals are already getting worst. Lets not encourage this behavior

      • if you don't use the front page to access your deals there isn't a way to filter this garbage out. there is no planet where this is a deal, but all the management care about is more page hits so they make more money from ads so they don't want to actually make the site what it should be.

        • -1

That’s not correct, if you click on the streaming service addition tag above the deal report button above you can:

“ Tag for [SUBS] streaming service additions deals (Netflix, Disney Plus, Prime Video etc.) Click the 3 dot menu above if you wish to hide it from your new deals and/or front page.”

      Enough Internet for today

    • -2

Anything is a bargain I guess. It’s a matter of perspective.

  • +3

    Lol

  • +17

Lol posting that movies are leaving is just that little bit lamer than posting that movies are coming. Well done.

  • +9

This is the new low for a deal…

    • +3

Deals on free to air TV have to posted before, so there's definitely lower

  • +3

Well hey, thanks from me as it's been on my list for a while and this is a good reminder to actually watch it!

    • yeah I did put an explanation to why it's a expiring stream post. the only other movie I posted as expiring is "Morbius" because it's literally a anti-movie. 🤣

people are not just upset with Netflix though, multiple services keep upping their prices regularly (and most recently started adding ads above base tier) so recently been seeing a lot of "calling streaming quits" comments.

    • Thanks from me also OP :)

  • I am going to watch A. Carrera whose IQ is 156, member of MENSA and holds Bachelor of Law and Bachelor of Psychology degrees.

Is Netflix being discounted so I can watch this? What's the deal?

    • -1

it's the opposite it's going UP in price for those who are force cancelled from old plans.

so most likely a lot of people are not going to resubscribe at a higher price ad free tier, so need to get the most of the last month of old ad free Basic plan + paid with discount giftcards (they closed this loophole earlier).

edit: I admit I didn't really put much effort in the post description the first time, so I added a few words to make it more clear.

      • +1

hey IF you have netflix AND you're not renewing your subscription so you're not going to have it in a month from now THEN make the most of it while you still have it

Uh, thanks for the reminder? Not much of a deal though. Seems to be more suited as a PSA in the forums.

        • -2

no no I think my edit hasn't gone up yet if you think that's what I added.

people are being forced off their old Basic plan which is something like $9.99 per month Ad free (if they never cancelled next month renewal, they were on that old plan for years until now). so it's not a choice for them after a month they have no netflix, if they want to renew ad free tier for next month they have to pay $13.99 per month for Standard and a lot of people saying they won't be coming back to NF.

Seems to be more suited as a PSA in the forums.

yeah fair but I have just followed what others were doing on this site over a year ago. they were posting them as deals so that's what I did. I always make sure to put [SUBS] at the beginning of title so if you are scrolling past you can see it and avoid tapping, and the PSA in description on unsubbing to streaming posts like I saw.

    • -2

There is a section in bold to tell you how to ignore these deals lol

      • +2

        Still not a deal though.

        • -2

If you have that opinion, remove yourself from seeing them. Sounds like a solved issue?

          • -1

@DiscountForThee: this isn't what tenpercent said, but there was one user who mentioned something about "freedom" (not freedom of speech but something similar) and that nobody in this world can make them to do something.

I don't fully understand it but yeah there are people out there, for example do not want to see big booties, but are willing to go through life seeing big booties and are happy as long as nobody makes them block big bootie pictures.

something to do with self control? pride?

            • -1

@n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: I dunno, I think that anyone who complains about something they can permanently avoid is, themselves, a big bootie

            • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm:

there are people out there, for example do not want to see big booties

Those people need to be removed from society permanently.

          • -1

@DiscountForThee: Nah it's not solved. It's partially solved (for me) when I'm logged in. But I'm not always logged in. And even if I do block seeing this kind of thing I'll always know that there's a whole world of hidden not-a-deals being posted on Ozbargain as if they were deals but they're not.

This "remember to watch netflix before your subscription expires" is no more a deal than your mum reminding you to drink that last half a sip in your can of soft drink before she cleans up your room and chucks it out.

            • +1

              @tenpercent:

But I'm not always logged in.

This is an issue with a solution. Sounds like a solved issue?

              • @DiscountForThee: What part of it's not a deal, doesn't make sense?

The issue is not me seeing it. The issue is non-deals being posted as if they were deals.

                • +1

                  @tenpercent:

What part of it's not a deal, doesn't make sense?

The "personal opinion" part, boyo. You can hide them, then you no longer have to deal with them. An issue with a solution :)

                  • +1

@DiscountForThee: Again, me blocking this does not resolve the actual problem, that being people posting non-deals as if they were deals. So that is not a solution.

This particular post is no more than a PSA about a particular streaming platform's offerings. There is no discount or bargain or deal to be had. It belongs in the forums.

Whether something is or is not a deal is not "personal opinion" in this situation.

                    • @tenpercent: Are you suggesting that all subscription services be banned from OzB, including Amazon, eBay plus, Xbox, PSN, Good Guys commercial, Telstra members, etc? Because that is dumb.

And if you're suggesting that people with a subscription wouldn't find watching this movie cheaper ($0 additional) than watching it elsewhere (more than $0), then that's also dumb lol

                      • +1

                        @DiscountForThee:

Are you suggesting that all subscription services be banned from OzB,

No, I obviously have not suggested that. If the amount you pay is being discounted e.g. 10% of Netflix subscription, then that would be a deal. If Amazon Prime is offering access to premium content at a reduced to normal price then that's a deal. This one is not a deal.

And if you're suggesting that people with a subscription wouldn't find watching this movie cheaper ($0 additional) than watching it elsewhere(jbhifi.com.au) (more than $0), then that's also dumb lol

By that logic, I could post a deal "new exercise bikes at my local Fitness First" because if you already have a membership to Fitness First it would indeed be cheaper ($0 additional) than using the same kind of bikes elsewhere (e.g. Anytime Fitness (more than $0).

                        • @tenpercent: Then watch it not be popular, get zero votes, and have your deal posting privileges be limited. Go ahead I guess?

                        • @tenpercent:

e.g. 10% of Netflix subscription, then that would be a deal.

arguably not a deal imo. Netflix content has gone down the drain. the only thing still going for it is maybe 3 to 5 major new releases you would want to watch added per year. otherwise most of the "Netflix" exclusive new releases and other low budget movies added are just terrible slop.

and like this post for expiring subs shows they are removing these major movies one by one. the license for Morbius didn't get renewed btw you can't watch it anymore on NF. oh wait I just checked they added it back now but it says "Unavailable on ad supported plan due to licensing restriction" so they added it back, but only if you pay more for Standard or Premium. I watched it before it expired on the cheapest $7.99 Ad supported tier. terrible.

just not worth paying for NF anymore even if you get 10% off per month.

    Thanks for the reminder.

  • +3

    Still looking for the deal…

  • +4

Love the movie, hate the deal

  • +3

Been streaming on my Plex server for almost a year.

  • +2

    Well this post sure bombed

  • How is Oppenheimer depicted in this movie? A saviour (hero) or the ultimate harbinger of doom (Death incarnate himself)?

Not interested in watching it though just curious.

    • don't want to spoil it for you if you haven't seen it but tbh I didn't pay attention to whether he is hero or monster.

without spoiling it the the thing I do remember is he bonks a lady and isn't appreciated for what he did by his own country. it is a very biographical movie, so yeah I think pretty accurate and kind of in between what you asked (which is good it's not clear I guess because it makes you kind of think and decide). it's not 100% murica fxxx yeah military propaganda like something such as Top Gun Maverick (which I also liked).

it helped me learn that part of history so I thought it was a good movie, you know how they vaporized over 100,000 people (had to google this but who knows how accurate it is, how can you count the dead vaporized people?) and it ended the war.

  • +2

    where's the deal?

  • +2

What part of BARGAIN was not understood?

  • +1

Sigh, this is not a deal. First we had new movies in a sub deal, then movie leaving in a sub deal, is movies half way through a sub deal next?

  • What next.. Dr Who streaming on ABC view..

    Wow… What a bargain.
