Google Pixel 6a $1/Month for 36 Months with New or Resubscribing Mobile Plan (from 30GB/Month $49/Month) @ Optus

140

Oz B community,

cheapest 6a out there if you are using the optus network and need a new(ish) phone.

Google 6a for $1 on any bundled plan on a 36 month contract

or

Google 6a for $1.50 on any bundled plan on a 24 month contract.

Optus around my area has better reception and data speeds than any other network provider. There are many different plan values on the site so pick what bests suites you.

Enjoy

  • How much is the cheapest plan can bundle with this phone?

  • +10

The amount of spam i get went through the roof after optus got hacked. Its a constant reminder not to deal with them ever again.

      • +7

No. The security of Optus's customer data is 100% the responsibility of Optus.

There's no way out of that even if 3rd parties are involved as it'd be Optus's responsibility to ensure their competence and suitability for the work that they are hired for.

Optus were sloppy AF and that's on them.

      • +1

Even if the 1st part was true what does that have to do with the data hack?!

    • +1

How much did you look at your spam folder before Optus were hacked? Is it possible it's confirmation bias?

  • +9

    36 months LOL

    • Whaaaaaat 3 years ! That is going be torture for millennials

  • Seems confusing where it says $1.50 per month (if selecting 24 mths) on $49 plan: "Min. cost $768.10. Includes device payments over 24 months and one month of your chosen plan fees.". Shouldn't this be $1.50 x 24 + $49 = $85 if cancelling on the first month?

    • +1

the $1.50 per month offer is probably only if you stay the full length of the contract.
      The Terms usually mention this.
So if you cancel early, you pay the full/regular handset cost.

    • You cannot cancel because you are going to lose the discount on the phone

    • its a credit that is applied to your plan.

  • +2

For anyone transferring to Optus, I was offered 50% off any plan to (for first 12 months) or 25% off any plan (perpetual) to switch from another provider (last week).

Would be a pretty good combo with this $1 phone plan

    • How did you get this offer ?

      • +1

I just said I was currently with Telstra. Ask to speak with Mustansir 0870858911

  • +1

they also have the 7 pro at 50 percent off (24 and 36 months plans)

    • Only the 128GB version unfortunately… But it's a great price.

I wonder if they'll drop more?

      • black does have the 256g

        • +1

Weird. It didn't show the first time? Good price for the 256!

    From T&Cs
'The discount will be forfeited if the customer cancels, recontracts or changes to an ineligible plan and the customer will have to pay out the full cost of the device on a pro-rata basis, excluding the device discount Optus was going to cover. '

  • +1

No thanks, reckless customer service cancelled my mobile data account mistakenly , cant imagine over 3 years how many issues will be faced

  • +1

Can be paired with the $35 flybuys deal if that's more suitable to some. Probably the $20 off a month for 12 month offer too

    • +1

do you have the link for this?
      Thanks

    • Anyway for existing Optus customers to take advantage of this deal without porting out then back in?

      • You can via live chat, if however you already have an existing discount you’ll need to port out and back in and place the order online (else they will forfeit your discount).

        • No luck unfortunately

  • I don't see any option to pair this with the $35 flybuys deal?

  • +1

The new release Samsung A34 has the same $1/month for 36 month deal!

    • That notch kills me 😭

    • Is the A34 better phone than Pixel 6a?

      • i have the same question too

  • Shame they don't have a sale on the 12 month payment plan, 24 months is a bit too long to be locked into Optus.

Looks like a similar sale on the whole apixel line up: 6, 6a, 7, 7 pro.

    • +1

6a is the crazy dollar deal, 7 series are a discount of around %50 off.

  • Deals like this or this are arguably better?

    • depends, a $49 dollar plan is cheaper but they have expired.

  • +2

Not sure, why this deal is exciting to some.

Let's go through the 24 month contract:
    - 24 months * 49$/month = 1176$
    - 24 months * 1.5$/month = 36$

Total cost of plan is 1212$

Assuming a pre-paid Telstra annual sim-only card of 300$ per year (can be any yearly prepaid but Telstra just to go 'premium') , total cost is 600$ for two years

1212 - 600 = 612$, which means Optus is selling the phone and 14GB of more Data/month for 612$ on a payment (Tesla being the most expensive of prepaids, Coles would make the phone and data bundle price over 900$).

To me it makes more sense to buy a pre-paid annual simcard and phone separately, particularly as the phone has been sold for 499$ before here, and Pixel a series generally do not hold value as good

    • +1

The FlyBuys plan is more interesting.

      • 24 months * $35/month = $840
      • 24 months * $1.5/month = $36
      • Flybuy points = $120

      Total cost = $756.

    • +1

Only if you have $300 sitting around waiting to be used plus $499 to buy the phone upfront. I don't often have $800 waiting to be used, but I do have $50 per month available.

      • You don't need to, you can set a side that amount each week/month and buy the 300$ Sim only or equivalent when you need one (ie your other prepaid is done(

  • This is the way i look at it:
    24 months @ $35/month = $840
    24 months @ $1.50/month = $36
    Thats $876 minus $120 Flybuys =$756
Save $712 off the rrp for the 6a = $44 for 24 months.
We all know that you can get the Pixel 6a for a lot cheaper than $748.80 so it just depends how you look at things. I bought a bnib Pixel 6a for $400 so this deal is no good if you can source a cheap 6a!

    • What about the cost of the plan itself? If you average $20pm for a comparable plan, then its $480 so the cost of the phone ends up being $232.

    • As stated, it all depends on your needs.

I was on an Optus 80gb deal for 55 a month. I have rolled into the 59 plan plus pixel 6a, I've always been an Optus network customer and I find that they have better reception than Telstra where I live.

To me, it's a no brainier, for a 5ver a month extra I get more data and a pretty good phone.

  • Can't believe there's no face unlock feature on 6a, a quick google tells me only available on Pixel 4, Pixel 7, and Pixel 7 Pro. What gives?

    • I've seen android face unlock and it wasn't as secure as apples. I'd pass on that.

    • Doesn't have the hardware - the extra sensors. 6a is the "budget" Pixel

      • But what about 6 and 6 Pro?

        • Guess they skipped those generations? Covid and lack of chips and all that?
