                        • @nightelves: Ahhh, I thought sites = websites, which is what confused me.

My presumption is that the card will be completely unredeemable in any form until you get InComm to unblock it.

                  • +1

@WookieMonster: I was able to get in touch with them after about 20 mins. They didn't mention anything about getting blocked because of the PIN set-up
I did right after purchase though. They only said it was blocked because of suspicious transactions (which were me trying to use it online).

  • Anyone having trouble using these buying gift cards at prezzee? My transactions won't go through for the third card for some reasons.

    • +1

I have successfully purchased a Coles gc there.

  • Whenever they have these promos on I often see Asian ladies with stacks and stacks of them buying them at the self checkout. I can never seem to find them on the shelves so I suspect some dodgy employees and their family members. There's no way normal folks could get their hands on so many of these cards.

    • Naa just shameless. I've seen Asian ladies open the gift card cabinet to check inside for cards. Pretty of $100 right now with flybuys left near me.

    • +1

Once seen a couple grab the whole lot off the shelf, count out 5 each to buy now and the rest went in the handbag.

    • I need to know her race so that I can form judgment in your cool story

Oh wait you already specified, nvm

      /s

  • any idea if the flybuys has to be registered in NSW or ACT or doesn't matter where it's registered just need to buy in NSW or ACT?

    • I don't think it matters. I created a couple of accounts for the QLD deal but never actually registered an address on the account and they still worked fine.

  • +1

Some stores have restocked on $250 cards. Saw 8k on a shelf already just now.

  • +3

PSA - none at Chatswood Chase at 6:30am
Chatswood Westfield sold out by 7:30am (I was in the queue, there were enough for like ~10 ppl)

For those who are salty at missing out, don't be racist - there were plenty of non-Asians in the queue as well.

    • Thank you! You helped me this time XD

  • +1

North Sydney Coles had several 100s out on display but for the 250s you had to ask at the service desk.

  • North Parramatta - Out of Stock of $250
West Ryde - $250 still available at front desk only

    • @tightdesibanda - how many were there even in Parramatta? (any idea). I checked this morning and was told haven't received supply yet. This is disappointing, Coles advertising a promo but not backing it up with sufficient stock.

      • They had none apparently.. was there pretty early too

      • They had none apparently.. was there pretty early too

      • Lies. That was the coles I check last night. Only on the giftcard section. The cardboard stand near the stairwell only had Apple cards.

        • @Sheng - precisely what I'm saying too. They had no stock even at 7am.

          • +1

@nsingh21: Someone must have hidden them since I went at 8 pm lol. There were even yellow card on the display bottom "knocked off".

            • @Sheng: @Sheng aah shucks. I went there 30mins ago and spoke to the service desk staff, they told me they've removed the cards off the shelves because people were grabbing off too many of them. Whilst they're also keeping at the service desk, the $250 ones are OOS in that store (the utter disappointment). They do have quite a bit of $100 ones locked up but the savings on those aren't worth it IMO.

            • +1

@Sheng: Wouldn't surprise me tbh.. looked like it had been picked clean

  • time to drive to wealthy suburb of Hurstville & Kogarah ;) :D to buy … !

  • Bought 3 x $250 cards this morning. Have tried 3 times to buy discounted Woolworths Wish card (via NSW Seniors 5% discount website). Get following error "Something went wrong. Our system is temporarily unavailable. Your card hasn't been charged. Please try again later."
Is that just a roundabout way of saying you can no longer use these MasterCards to purchase Wish gift cards?

Ended up putting two of the cards in to land rates account without any problem. Keeping the 3rd on standby pending latest info for Wish GCs.

    • Where did you get them from? Are there many stocks left?

      • +1

Postcode 2529. Some cards are in the regular gift card displays, but there is a separate 1m high cone-shaped display just inside the door that has some as well. The small display is a Mothers Day promo.

    • +1

From memory, you need to use it via PayPal

  • -1

can these be used to buy Woolworths giftcards online through their portal eg what we use to get discounted gift cards through NRMA and similar?

    • Have to do it via paypal

      • "We only support transfers from confirmed banks, not cards, for adding money to PayPal."

So you have to deposit the Mastercard into a bank account first?

        • +1

Answering my own question: The Mastercard details are added to the PayPal account as another means of paying for things. You are not increasing your PayPal balance as such. There is a set-up charge of $2 to confirm the card. The $2 is then refunded when the card is confirmed. I presume you wait until the confirmation is completed before spending the full value of the Mastercard (says 3-5 days for confirmation).

      • thanks, does paypal process a low value transaction when adding the card effectively locking $1 or so until it is removed?

  • +4

2nd dispute for my card (literally everytime I open a new card have heart in my mouth whether it's hacked or not).
Don't see it's worth if you get such hassles.
P.s. that card was 1 week old, lost 226$ at some online game site.

Was on call for 45 mins with support and need to wait additional 90 days to get this resolved.

    • Sorry to hear it. I just bought some of this and 10% off Westfield giftcards after work, didn't bother to buy them earlier. It seems like early bird to get scammed now. In other words, none left is also OK.

    • Is this just from the recent purchase? Do you mind sharing what the expiry of that card was? They seem to target a batch of them at a time all with the same expiry.

      • +2

Yeah purchased last week as part of 2000 bonus points promotion. Exp 03/27

        • +3

My suggestion is that you do not post expiry dates of prepaid gift cards on a public forum.

An expiry date is one piece of a puzzle a hacker needs in order to attempt hacking a prepaid gift card. It would have been smarter to provide the manufacture date of the gift card (which you can find on the back of the gift card on the top right-hand corner above the magstripe).

And I realise that you probably can easily find the expiry dates by simply going to a Coles supermarket or by looking at other parts of the internet, but posting expiry dates here means that a random who cannot get into Coles (e.g. because they are not located in Australia) and has stumbled across this deal has one less variable to worry about when wanting to hack into prepaid gift cards. I will mention that it is comically easy to find the BIN of this prepaid gift card on the internet (although I will give zero hints), so a potential hacker theoretically has enough information in order to attempt hacking…

          • @WookieMonster: That’s why I asked about the expiry of the hacked cards already, as the scammers are already going through those. So far I found all my hacked cards (I had several) had been the same as the Jimmy above. So people should watch out for cards purchased with that expiry in particular. I was going to PM initially, but his PM function was off. Can ask mod to adjust the comment if you like.

            • +2

@magster: I get your point about wanting to warn OzBargainers about particular expiry dates, but you have to consider some of the consequences for issuing such warnings.

My point is that other scammers who were not already hacking now have sufficient information to start hacking, so this discussion could make the problem even worse by now enabling more attempts to hack Coles Mastercard gift cards with that expiry date.

OzBargain does not have a wide reach to Coles customers across Australia (we usually peak at about 10,000 users at any given time on a given day, or something like that?), so a lot of people holding Coles Mastercard gift cards with that expiry date will never see this discussion, and this discussion could consequently affect them.

There is no easy answer to this conundrum… and I will soften my stance and acknowledge that warning people about specific expiry dates has its merits. However, by saving some people from this issue, we may end up hurting others by enabling even more hacking than before.

Now I'm not sure where to stand on this…

              • +2

@WookieMonster: I have 1,000 activated cards with Exp 2/27. Hacking is welcome.

                • +1

                  @Neoika: Only 1000? Rookie numbers.

                • @Neoika: One thing I can add is the MasterCard support is very much more supportive than the Vanilla VISA reps. They seem to be two different support teams. Although, MC support are more willing to issue a replacement card whereas I've had to take a bigger fight to Vanilla VISA team (incl i2cinc & Coles itself) to get them to issue a replacement.

    • How long did you waited between activating them and using them?

    • I bought @ 17/4/23 hacked on 25/4/23 someone has used my card to pay ATO. How the hack would the hacker know what the cvc number.
Was on hold for 115 minutes and got disconnected, very frustrated not even sure the savings was worth it.

      • That's a new one. Usually Tiktok or a massage parlor. Surely the person can be found if they paid Tax.

      • +1

That's very strange. I would suggest it wouldn't have been hacked and something else has gone wrong. A lot of people buying these gift cards are paying the ATO with them. So possibly someone has typed the digits wrong (typed your card number instead) and the ATO system doesn't confirm the CVC number. Or possibly the issuer created a duplicate card. Or something strange like that.

  • Anyone know if you can use these cards with Beemit to pay off bills?
Or to pay off Bundl balances?

    • +1

You cannot use any prepaid cards (including Coles Mastercard gift cards) on Beem It. Beem It only supports Australian-issued debit and credit cards.

No idea about Bundl, but I’m sure someone else can provide an answer.

    • +1

      bundll: no
      zip: no
      let's forget bundll as it's closing May 9 :)

  • Spotted another 6k today went past Blacktown today.

  • +1

    STAY AWAY FROM THEM!

Got 5 cards yesterday, couldn’t use 1 of them at first, then couldn’t even check balances on the other 2 as well, rang them up and was told 3 out of 5 compromised and need replaced, wtf!

    • Inside job?

      • don’t know coz they didn’t tell but they asked for info to post replacements that would be expected within 30 days, not happy Jan

    • How long did you waited between activating them and using them?

      • it’s varied, some on same day of purchase, and some would take longer than that.

        • +1

perhaps those not activated properly ?

        • I am thinking if we buy them and activate them immediately say in 30mins by the time we get home, this problem would be resolved.

        • Check your receipt first. It should say Approved.

I find Coles is doing something shady now by asking you need the receipt or not after purchase. It used to always print out the receipt for giftcard purchase automatically.

  • +1

Anyone else experience some Coles store NEVER have any $250/$100s? I've never managed to buy $250s of vanilla or coles mastercard from Crows Nest nor Lane Cove in the last few promos including this one. While others get restocked daily.

    • +1

I agree about Crows Nest and Lane Cove. Which get restocked daily? I haven't found one on Lower North Shore.

      • both chatswood stores

        • Have they both restocked? It was reported upthread that the store at Chase had none on day 1.

          • +1

@SydneySwan: they get restocked during the day. Westfield has been restocked daily whereas chatswood chase has almost been daily. They didn't get new stock yesterday or earlier this morning. I haven't been back to check.

    • +1

Some managers have them taken off the shelf during the promotions.

    • +3

I've experienced this too in one of the stores. Check Wed morning, no stock. Service desk kept saying it'll come tomorrow, but their tomorrow never comes….pathetic. I'm convinced these guys (or the manager) has opted not to participate in this promo but keep all stock away. Either that or all stock went into the employees' pockets, slim chance but also they may have gotten cleaned up (OzBargained first), too many people, too many lies

    • I bought the last three 250 cards from Crows Nest about 10am on Wednesday. I was told that they only got 20 cards in total. One family of three bought 15 and then another guy bought 2. Then I bought the last three.

  • Carlingford have a bunch that keep getting declined at the POS. They said they've taken all off the shelf and claiming bad batch and are refusing to sell them 🤷‍♂️

  • I have participated in this promotion just like in the past but only now I encountered issues 2 out of 5 cards I purchased yesterday. I use the cards a couple of hours after I purchase them and one of the cards got declined by a merchant then use a different gc and it’s fine (i used the declined card in my paypal). The other one I’m unable to add to paypal saying its already been linked to other account so I decided to pre-pay my utilities and it went okay. It’s a bit stressful as I never experienced this issues in the previous promotion.

  • Are there any stores in NSW with $250 Coles MC left?! Are they restocking anywhere….? 3 days in and not a $250 card to be found….

    • Yes they are. Coles warehouse delivers ~2 boxes (number may vary depending upon the store location) at random times during the day. I've personally found it a struggle to get hold of cards myself this round, it was easy peasy lying around last month during the VISA promo.

On top of that, I notice that some stores simply aren't participating. For e.g I've been checking in on the Westfield Parramatta store and they haven't had put up any card since Wed 7am. While the staff keep saying check later or tomorrow, I'm convinced the staff have either pocketed the cards themselves or just elected not to participate in the sale. Could be something else. If anyone else noticed anything, would be good to hear. @cpkcpk - I can share a couple of stores in NSW with abundance of $100 stock, $250 - will be tricky. It'll probably run out again.

  • +1

It doesn't seem to be working for me to buy a Woolworths gift card anymore (I last did it with one of these a few months ago). I have checked the full balance is on the card but when I go to pay I get:

"Something went wrong. Our system is temporarily unavailable.
Your card hasn’t been charged. Please try again later."

I tested buying a $5 GC with my Mastercard from one of my bank accounts and it gets you to put in a code that they send to your mobile but it works fine.
I have tried different browsers (with no extensions) and doing it on my PC and mobile and same thing.
I also tried doing it through Paypal with the card and it just puts an pre-authorisation that gets removed after a couple of hours and gives the error:

    "Your order cannot be completed.
A refund has been issued to your PayPal account. You will receive an email for 19889519 transaction. We apologise for the inconvenience."

I only bought one of these because I heard of troubles with people buying multiple, and plus with reports of hacks, I think if I ever get one of these again I will only do it if I need to buy something same day, but it probably isn't worth the time and potential issues so probably not.

    • Is there any particular reason you're looking to buy Woolies GC from their website? I don't think it's running any promo ATM (unless you're doing the Everyday Extra rewards).

It'll certainly be easiest to use these cards in-store or buy Woolies GC from Prezzee.

  • +2

The savings from the $100 cards are barely worth the effort imho. I wonder if the cost of the 10% discount is shared betwen Coles and Heritage Bank…Coles wins by getting more people into their stores and Heritage Bank wins if prople lose the card or don't spend the entire balance….there must be a reason why they dont supply more cards for these promos as they could easily sell 10-20x or even more if there was better supply.

I know Coles staff hate these discount periods…

    • Honestly, I've been asking the same question over 6months ago when this promo was announced in Q4 of 2022. My local Coles has limited $250 stock, but ones they go up, I've usually fallen back to buying the $100 ones since any discount on cash is still worth it. Probably can get yourself a decent lunch with the savings on 5x$100.

I would almost certainly assume that Coles will get discount or rebates when remitting any payments to the GC scheme owners. The exact proportion would be something interesting to know. Data from the US shows that profits from unused & expired GCs are a billion dollar business.

      • +1

Shhh. Once people realise that then the $100 cards will start disappearing too.

        • Haha @capslock - I think everyone has their own definition of what they find value in. In the last Vanilla VISA promo, I saw someone buying ~100-150 X $100 cards simultaneously scanning those temporary Flybuys.

Although I acknowledge the counterargument that if you're not planning to use immediately, better not stock $100 cards and risk BIN attacks, in that way, the hassle almost isn't worth the time.

  • +1

Everytime since the last couple of days I buy a gift card from card.gift It ends up getting cancelled as it’s flagged for fraud as they said. I keep trying and I email them they take so long to reply. So annoying . I think card.gift don’t like these prepaid cards

    • Coz people overgamed it by getting Grocery eMC as a loop back? I did not even bother to do it once as I know TCN takes higher security measures. Special Gift Card may also review such purchase as I know.

      • +1

I've lost two google accounts now from TCN trying to add cards to GPAY. Wants me to submit ID to unblock my accounts.

    • +1

If you are trying to use a Coles Mastercard gift card directly on Card.Gift, I am hardly surprised, because Coles Mastercard gift cards lack security features found on a lot of debit and credit cards, which means Coles Mastercard gift cards are more likely to be associated with fraud. I mean, think about all the fraudulent transactions that have happened on Coles Mastercard gift cards. Imagine if one of your Coles Mastercard gift cards had been “hacked” by someone and then used on Card.Gift…

If you are trying to use a Coles Mastercard gift card via PayPal on Card.Gift, it sounds like your PayPal account has been flagged for being related to potentially fraudulent activity.

    • Works now after emailing them

  • +1

I would be buying from shopback or prezzee if they had grocery and restaurant gift cards .

    • +1

They actually do! Although limited options. I usually get the swap card to get Coles.

      • +1

I think you misunderstood the intent of their question (but that is because their question is ambiguously worded for what they are trying to say).

They are look for prepaid Mastercard/Visa gift cards similar to the TCN Grocery gift card, TCN Restaurant gift card or Restaurant Choice gift card. They are not looking for merchant-specific gift cards (e.g. Coles gift card, WISH gift card).

I only know this, because they have asked about this a few times recently!

        • +1

          Oh dear 😨
Soo many different Gift cards. I'm pretty sure if I'd go all out, will lose track of mine. Nevertheless, I think if you're trying to dispose a prepaid MC or VISA card and can't buy a closed loop TCN Grocery GC, for example, you can then certainly dispose them off by going for merchant-specific ones through ShopBack & Prezzee.

Depends person to person and their needs/circumstances.

  • Coles store in the Square (postcode 2529) has restocked the $250 cards. There were 14 remaining at 6:30pm Sat evening.
People should persevere and check their store before Tuesday to see if restocking has occurred.

  • I got scared from all the comments here about scams/hacks!!! I bought 5 x $250 from Coles in Concord NSW (none were on shelf but I got lucky seeing an Asian lady asked and got some from the counter - Coles ppl seem to hide them from shelf).
Just tried buying 3 Super Swaps $250 from Shopback and all were good. I left 2 to try buying the $500 Perfect EFTPOS from WW deal (to try using Beemit for BPAY). I visited 6 WW stores in Sydney InnerWest areas but could not find any.
Can you guys advise which Coles you bought from that got hacked/scammed? We all need to stay away from those Coles tbh…

    • Concord.

    • I’m keen to know if perfect eftpos works on Beem it. That would be sweet if it worked.
