Welcome to the Ultimate Guide of Youtube Premium Subscriptions via Turkey

Where were we? Ahhhh… yes… we're back again, after 6 months, except this time with an upgraded guide. Most of you should be on this subscription already, but for those who are new or haven't yet hopped on the bandwagon, here's a reminder that it exists :)

After Google increased the prices for Youtube Premium in several countries worldwide late 2022, including USA, UK, Canada, Argentina, Turkey, Japan (etc), we have the following facts:

  • Argentina is no longer the cheapest country to sign up from after being the go-to for years (now ARS 389 / A$2.67 for Individual plans and ARS 699 / A$4.80 for Family plans). Further, they have changed the way they take payments and so many Australian debit and credit cards no longer work for Argentina.
  • India is now the cheapest country to sign up from, although subscribing to the Youtube Premium (Family) plan is almost impossible given India's new laws around payments and now requires a local Indian payment method, something most of us do not have access to. Youtube Premium (Individual) should still be doable using ExpressVPN.
  • Turkey is now the second cheapest and easiest country to sign up from (just under 10 cents more than India)

Since last deal, most OzBargainers have migrated from Argentina to other countries (majorily Turkey). If you tried to sign up to a Youtube Premium Family via India, you probably hit a dead end, with most cards ending up declining due to this reason and this reason. Well if that is the case, hopefully Youtube Premium via Turkey will be a breeze, especially for those who have Google One via Turkey already (confirmed working for me, you will not need to enter a new address and it took me like 30 seconds to sign up to Youtube Premium Family).

Note: You DO NOT need to change your region to subscribe to YouTube Premium (Turkey). Unlike Google One which requires a region change to an extent, security for Youtube Premium is not as tight as Google One. Simply log into your main account, use a Turkish VPN and sign up YouTube Premium.

Available Plans via Turkey:

For price references, Youtube Premium via Australia is $8.99/mth for student plans, $14.99/mth for individual plans & $22.99/mth for family plans

You can subscribe to either a monthly plan or an annual plan.

Please read the following instructions carefully. I've tested it on iPhone and PC (windows), so here's my experience - and it took literally minutes.

Instructions (No Current Subscription)

Note: If you're signing up for a family plan, best to add your Australia family members / accounts into a family group BEFORE signing up, otherwise you may get the following error: "Looks like you're in a different country from the family manager". To add family members, go to: https://families.google.com/families

Step 1: Add any family members to your Google Family Group (if needed): https://families.google.com/families

Step 2: Connect a VPN to a server in Turkey (see Notes section for suggestions).

Step 3: Go to https://www.youtube.com/premium and if it shows currency in TRY (Turkish Lira), continue choosing your membership.

Step 4: When prompted, enter your Turkey address (If needed, use a fake address generator to obtain a random Turkey address) and proceed to pay by debit/credit card (preferedly with no international fees)

Step 5: Fly back home and turn off your VPN. YOU'RE DONE! WOOO! Enjoy your savings :)

Instructions (Transferring from a different country)

Note: If you're signing up for a family plan, best to add your Australia family members / accounts into a family group BEFORE signing up, otherwise you may get the following error: "Looks like you're in a different country from the family manager". To add family members, go to: https://families.google.com/families

Step 1: Go to https://m.youtube.com/paid_memberships and click on your current subscription. Click “manage” then continue to cancel. Once cancelled, the current subscription will continue until the end of the billing period. But you now have an option to resubscribe back to Youtube Premium

Step 2: Add any family members to your Google Family Group (if needed): https://families.google.com/families

Step 3: Connect a VPN to a server in Turkey (see Notes section for suggestions).

Step 4: Go to https://www.youtube.com/premium and if it shows currency in TRY (Turkish Lira), continue choosing your membership.

Step 5: When prompted, enter your Turkey address (If needed, use a fake address generator to obtain a random Turkey address) and proceed to pay by debit/credit card (preferedly with no international fees)

Step 6: Fly back home and turn off your VPN. YOU'RE DONE! WOOO! Enjoy your savings :)

ISP Notes (Important)

  • Most VPN services will connect to Turkey, unlike India. Those include NordVPN, Private Internet Access (PIA), free Windscribe Chrome extension (recommended), free UrbanVPN Chrome extension (recommended), ExpressVPN, etc. If one doesn't work, use another VPN

    • If you're using Windscribe and it shows different currencies: keep turning the windscribe on and off. Each time you don't get TRY, turn it off and on, then refresh the Youtube sign up page. You'll eventually land on TRY. Go to https://whatismyipaddress.com/ each time you turn it off/on and see if you land on Istanbul

FAQ

Q: Will I get banned by Google?
A: There’s always a chance, however only a tiny number of people (<5) have actually gotten suspended by Google (see linked previous post in OP). Proceed at your own risk.

Please note the process can be easy for some people, harder for others, or may not work at all.

  • There is no need for aggression in instances where you are unable to subscribe to an international Netflix account. Share your experience so everyone can chip in and help out. There are plenty of examples where hacks shared on this platform do not work for some people, but may work for others:

    • Modem reset for faster internet,
    • Cash back program purchase tracking,
    • Price matching an unobtainable deal or price error,
    • Targeted bargains, and
    • Limited quantity items quickly or instant (bot) sellout.
  • Similarly we know there are cash back users who follow every single step for cash back (turn off ad blocker, have no items in cart, do not click other links, etc.) on their purchases and it does not work, its probably best to move on.There are many users who successfully use this hack and enjoy paying half the price of the Australian membership. Unfortunately there are also many users who have been unable to sign up to Netflix Turkey or Argentina. After all it is intended for people who reside in Turkey or Argentina. If it does not work, I am not affiliated with any of the entities listed below or linked to and cannot guarantee any outcome. I can only read comments on this platform and others to share them with you. Your patience is appreciated. Please do not take it personally.

        • seems like it only works with Mastercards

    • Had same issue with Turkey. Had to switch to Phillipines and use Urban VPN on mobile to subscribe. Didn't ask for address though after entering MC CC details.

      • Did you use the app on the mobile or open yt in a browser ? I'm still getting au prices in the mobile app.

        • Did you turn off phone location? That was my mistake.

          • @TooSerious2: Arhh ok thanks for the tip I only did the location change in app. I ended up signing by browser anyway.

  • I'm always getting a 'payment profile suspended' issue as soon as I press buy. I've created multiple new profiles, used different cards (cba, wise etc) and still get this issue. I've also done both Turkish and Philippine accounts. Anyone find a work around?

    • for me, after I press 'buy' the window just keeps loading.

    • Also same issue. Money briefly leaving card but back a while later. Just endless circle

  • I can't get Turkey to work it was giving me the This purchase requires a payment method from your billing country, and can't figure a way around it. So trying the Philippines but the payment is not going though, I suspect the bank could be blocking the transaction.

  • I eventually got this working by trying a lot of combinations posted by others in the comments. I first tried signing up with a Mac and PC that I have and kept receiving the below error when connected to the Turkey server using NordVPN:

"Transaction declined. This purchase requires a payment method from your billing country. [OR_RECR_05]".

A few people mentioned signing up via an Android phone. I don't have an Android phone, so I used Android Studio and created a virtual Android device. I guess you could also try BlueStacks or Noxplayer, however, those aren't supported on the new Apple Silicon devices. I connected to the Turkey server again on NordVPN and then tried signing up for the monthly and annual plans via Chrome and still received the same error.

After reading a few more posts, still being connected to the Turkey server on NordVPN, I opened the YouTube app on my virtual Android device and signed in. I then went into the settings within the YouTube app and changed the country to Turkey. Within settings, I managed to navigate to the YouTube Premium section. Oddly enough, I could not find the annual plan section like I could when I was using a desktop browser, only monthly. Anyway, upon hitting the buy button, it processed and went through using my Up Bank Mastercard from a Turkish profile I'd previously created.

I really wanted the annual plan to potentially avoid billing issues down the line, but definitely happy with the outcome. It seems different methods may be working for different people, but I hope this does help someone.

Confirmed this worked for me after getting the same [OR_RECR_05] issue when trying to subscribe via my Mac.

Used an old andriod phone and followed the exact same steps as above! Thanks so much 7uk3

      • Glad I could help!

    • +1

This worked for me too! Thanks 7uk3

  • Decided to sign up to PH as TR too hard.

Last night was trying on a laptop and kept getting circle of death at payment time. Called the bank and they said no blocks just lots of $0 pre authorisations from Google and everytime they would try for a small amount it would not go through.

Got it working this morning on mobile but thrower Brower not app as app was showing aud, but even then had to try a couple of times as I felt the pages was not responding so I would close all and start again till I felt all steps and pages were moving fast.

  • +1

I got charged $1.86 today. Got 6c back on the international transaction fee from ING. Looks like the Turkish dollar isn't going too well this month

  • Here’s my experience switching from India. India YouTube premium payment kept bugging so made the switch. Initially tried Türkiye but that resulted in my payment account being locked. To resolve this i completed the following on MacBook:
    - Deleted all payment profiles on all family accounts (so everyone was based in Aus)
    - Deleted the family and started a new one using a different email address
    - Used free Urban VPN into Philippines, added my Revolut digital card as payment option, verified the card and successfully subscribed. Cost was about $6.5

  • This purchase requires a payment method from your billing country

and also the price on my ios and on windows browser are different….

  • Has anyone had the issue that when you try to add a payment card on youtube, the "Region" field is not clickable and locked to United Kingdom?

Strange because I have a TR payment profile, address and any personal info located in "Turkey", theres no mention of UK anywhere.

Even when I turned VPN off, its still locked.

Ive done this setup for multiple friends, this is the first time iv experienced something like this.

EDIT: looks to be windscribe VPN thats the issue.

I realised that even when im connected to turkey, the page is showing in pounds.
Think i need to find a new vpn.

    • I'm having same issue. What VPN did you end up usung

      • Use an android phone, download urban vpn and then go through the youtube app to purchase premium

I ended up choosing argentina, couldnt get turkey to work

        • Cheers.i will try this

  • @I Smell Pennies, any work around for family members to share YouTube premium instead of just the family manager? Have not been able to find a way around this apart from deleting the turkey payment profile from family manager but then again having to do the same process whenever a payment is due.

  • Hi everyone, I managed to added all family members into the group already, vpn to turkey, confirmed location, get TRY price and up to the point of payment already but try different bank cards that we have and none work, it keeps asking I need to use the card at my reside country.

Do we have a fix for this?

    • I got this problem.

Use an android phone, download urban vpn and then go through the youtube app to purchase premium.

      Worked first go

      • Edit: i signed up via argentina, i couldnt get turkey to work.

  • I'm getting awfully confused by the comments, can anyone shed some light on:

    1. Will all accounts in a family plan be stuck with using Türkiye as the region for YouTube

    2. Can this be done with everyone's payment profile as Australian

    3. If making a dummy account to be the family manager, should this be made in Australia or Turkey

    • +1
      1. No, only the family manager (but this should be a burner account anyway).
      2. Only family manager needs a turkey payment profile
      3. Make it in australia, add family members. Once this is done, add turkey payment profile and then make the purchase.
  • Couldn't get this working

On PC would get the card rejection error - tried AMEX, commbank mastercard, ubank visa
On android phone prices wouldn't change to TRY despite changing the youtube app to turkey and using urban VPN

    • Try using argentina.

I couldnt get turkey working, argentina went through first go.

  • Same here, declined on 28d, HSBC & ING.

  • I got the error message “Transaction declined. This purchase requires a payment method from your billing country. [OR_RECR_05]” when trying to renew my Family monthly membership using PC & VPN.

But it worked for me last night when I renewed using my phone via Google Pay.
My Turkish account is saved into my phone with the payment method & Turkish address. It didn't give me any errors when authorising the payment via Google Pay.

Give it a try & renew the membership via your phone.

  • Longtime turkey/india/argentina resident but for a new account just can't get it working. Getting error at payment stage saying need payment method from billing country.

  • Got it working as someone suggested, using Argentina payment method and using the youtube app to get premium.

I'm stuck now getting an error message when I try to join the family group. Unable to join as I'm in a different country.

Yet both accounts have the same address, I have a VPN on set to that country, my payment profile says Argentina

    • you have to add people in your family before changing country

  • Was having trouble with Chrome - stuck loading on the payment screen but worked on Firefox! Signed up for family if anyone is interested in joining.

    • What vpn and which card did you end up using

      • Used UrbanVPN and OlduBil.

Express VPN and my Australian cards didn't work for me.

  • Any one having trouble with turkey sign up I just did it on my phone. Android.

From chrome with no ozbargain app installed.
Turned on urban VPN and set to Turkey
On the link in the main thread I opened the premium page in another tap, clicking on the link didn't bring up TYR price. Need to open in another tab.

Paid with oldubil as Australia cc didn't work.

  • So I went to Turkey to get my Youtube premium account about a week ago. I had to setup a new account as the Family Manager to get it to work, however, now my normal account (family member) appears to be stuck in the Turkish region on google play. In settings, this account says Australia, I still have my Australian google play balance, and if I buy things I it shows me the price in Australian dollars before I have to confirm the buy. The difficulty comes in that I can't find certain apps that are specific to Australia. I can still get them if I can find links to them in the world, but I can't search for them directly in google play. I've searched for answers on this, I've tried clearing cache and storage (the VPN for YT premium signup wasn't used on my main devices anyway, as I have another android device), but nothing seems to work. Has anyone experienced this? Any suggestions?

  • +2

Thanks @I Smell Pennies I have used your step one by one. It didn't work on Turkey, but worked on Philippines . Still super great deal very happy with it. Thanks again!

  • +1

Worked using UrbanVPN using phillipines on vpn, firefox on my android and signed up to family plan for 6 bucks a month. Didnt even ask me for an address either… only 2 bucks more per month, using my cba debit card compared to turkey price

  • Welp… I had money left over on my OlduBil card after the Xbox deal, so I figured I'd get a YouTube sub as well.

VPN'd, went to YouTube.com/premium, bought the annual plan for 299 lira, entered card details and.. nothing.. But the damn money has been taken from the account :(

Waited ages, confirmed nothing was happening, refreshed and it offered to sell it to me again. Not showing up in subscriptions in my Google account, no emails, Youtube still full of ads and bank no longer full of lira :(

    • When I go back in to buy it again, the card details are saved.. so they took my lira, saved the card details but didn't apply my sub :(

      • turns out that the money came back to my oldubil account after a few hours. I tried a few more times with no luck and in the end had to use the desktop UrbanVPN app instead of the Chrome extension. As soon as I did that it worked straight away.

        • Desktop App worked for me after trying different browser plug-ins. Thanks!

  • I used to be premium from India. Since it's been blocked. I tried to renew from Turkey via VPN, however, I got this message today when clicked "Buy". "Your payments profile is currently suspended because some information on your account couldn't be verified. Learn more. [OR_FGCR_33]" Anyone got same issue here? Thanks.

  • finally got money transferred, CBA to wise (took 7 days) to oldubil
then so much easier with turkey card

  • +2

    Can someone advise how can I get through;
"We couldn’t verify your country. Please see Help Center for more information."

Every time I got for YT Prem, it comes up with that. (With VPN on)

    • same issue here, did you fix it?

  • Also having issues, vpn don’t get me correct country. Cancelled my current individual turkish one as wanted family.
    Sub still active until October.
    Try again tomorrow.

  • Im trying on windows PC and Android. Windscribe and Urban. When it connects I go to https://www.youtube.com/premium and the price is in pounds.
Have confirmed location as Turkiye but still get UK pricing.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    • +1

Fixed it by using a free trial of secure VPN on my phone. Seems the others have been blocked by Google.

  • My 28 degrees (Lattitude) mastercard payment got rejected for the 1st time for the India subscription. It's been fine for a couple years now. My alt payment through CBA Visa seems to hare worked but I expect an international trans fee to come through at some point. I tried updating the 28 degrees payment method but it gets rejected. Any clues why that's happened?

  • I keep getting google error -HDT-01 when paying

    • Tried it with UrbanVPN on desktop and worked with OlduBil 30day trial and 299TRY a year

  • Does anyone know how i can add members to the family account. I signed up with india a while back and am trying to add members to my family account but it wont let me gives me an error saying they have to be in the same country. Is there a way i can change my country so theyre all the same. Or is there a way to use my same account and sign up again through turkey or another country

  • When trying this is anyone getting pounds instead of Turkey's currency?

I'm using windscribe. Am I missing something?

Also FYI: I did the whole use the family admin as the Australian account and then use a burner account as the Google one to share back to the family, turns out youtube family then can't be use because it errors with "You're already in a family group. Only the family manager, ****, can set up YouTube Premium for the family."

So I'm unsure how to get this youtube working along with google one without having your whole main account go overseas.. any ideas??

    • Try another VPN…urban worked for me

  • This was interesting for me. It worked up until payment. I entered the CC details (it didn't ask me for my address) and then it proceeded to process the payment. Screen remained white for a few minutes without confirmation payment was successful. I ended up refreshing the screen and tried this method 3 times.

I then noticed 3 transactions in my CC wallet on Oldubil. Odd.

Refreshing my premium membership also didn't confirm I was actually signed up to premium.

    • this happened to me.

After a few hours it should just all cancel out, the payment wont go through and was unsuccessful.

@I Smell Pennies - hey mate any advice for those of us being prompted with Pounds instead of Lira when navigating to https://www.youtube.com/premium while connected to Istanbul, Tukey via VPN?

    • Try disconnecting and re-connecting to the VPN, or a different VPN. Means your VPN is connected to a different country or it hasnt picked up your country properly.

      • Been trying this with PureVPN non stop like a mad man, from multiple devices with multiple VPN encryptions.
Wondering if I am gonna have to sign up to yet another VPN provider.

      • Gave up on PureVPN (for this at least).
Tried Windscribe Chrome Plugin… no luck
Tried UrbanVPN… LUCK! However after hitting BUY on a Family Sub it's just got a spinning icon on the purchase screen.
        We're one step closer though.

        • Any luck since?

          • +1

@rjo: Yep, I switched from trying on my computer via chrome with UrbanVPN to using the Urban VPN app on my Android Phone and had much more luck. It just worked!
Although i did end up with like 7 Pending Credit card purchases from all the attempts on the computer. Luckily they all were dropped and I only got charged for the successful attempt.

            • +1

@itsTricky83: You are a lifesaver! I tried so many times on computer and couldn't get it work. followed your advice and switched to mobile and HERE WE GO! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

              • @knucklebug: You might see heaps of credit card transactions pending due to all the attempts but only one of them should finalise. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Worked for me this morning after I had to cancel my Argentina family account to add new members. Created my OlduBil and Wise accounts last night and managed to transfer funds over quickly at around 11pm. NordVPN on desktop to Turkey. Tried paying last night but got stuck after clicking "buy". Funds were deducted from OlduBil but returned by this morning. Tried again this morning and worked first go. Thanks ISP!

    • Hi Eatsy. Can you please share your experience with Oldubil and Wise. I’m trying to set up Oldubil but cant transfer money in. Do I need Wise to transfer money to Oldubil? Please guide me through as I never dealt with Oldubil and Wise. Thanks heap.

      • Looks like transferring via Wise or Revolut are the preferred methods, as you need to transfer TRY into your OlduBil card, not AUD. Took me 5 mins to open a Wise account, and was able to instantly transfer $50AUD from my CBA account via PayID. Then, converted from AUD to TRY before transferring to OlduBil card. Was pretty straightforward for me following the instructions in the main post.

        • Thanks

  • Hey all, anyone else having issue transferring money from Wise to OlduBil? I've got 100TL in Wise, and when I try to deposit via card in the OlduBil app, I get a error message in Turkish that the card is not accepted.

    • +1

I get the same error. Translated from Turkish means something like card query service error. Have 307 TRY in my Wise account, using the Wise Mastercard to deposit into Oldubil results in that error.

      • +1

Good news. I gave up on using credit card as the deposit method. Instead, I did a wire transfer of TRY from my Wise account to Oldubil using the IBAN number they provided (following Oldubil instructions), money came through in less than a day and I successfully renewed Youtube Premium (Turkey). Make sure to send an extra 60 TRY to cover sending and receiving bank fees.

        • +1

Funnily enough I ONLY just saw your last comment after having just come back here with the purpose of telling you about the same method, having just stumbled across it myself!

        • Hi, Did the Wise prompted to input Oldubil virtual card number? I am using iphone,It only requires to input receiver surname and IBAN detail from the app. I transferred the money on Monday and my Oldubil account still havne't receive it.

          • @yltsl: I did my transfer from Wise on PC desktop. There should be box to enter the reference details before submitting transfer, that is where I put in the Oldubil virtual card number.

I was originally using the Argentina & then Egypt method to get YouTube Premium cheaper, however, YouTube raised the price of YouTube Premium and sent me an email to confirm the changes. I was overseas and didn't confirm it in time, and they cancelled my subscription. Upon resubscribing, I am getting the Transaction declined. This purchase requires a payment method from your billing country. [OR-REH-05]. Does the Turkey method still work? It does not for me.

I also tried India, Argentina and Egypt. No luck.

    Please assist.

  • Yep can't get this to work with a combination of VPNs, payment profiles and currencies.

Might require a card issued in the destination of choice…

  • Friend needed his family slot back so signed up for my own.

I just used urban vpn extension on firefox on PC. Then went to the premium page and paid for monthly using my CBA debit card.

Glad it was simpler than I thought.

    • whoops forgot to mention I set it to Philippines and am paying $6.53 AUD a month for a family sub.

  • stopped working for me as well, payment using 28Degrees card is being rejected. Anyone manage to get this going again?

  • Had trouble in chrome and firefox.

Instead I set VPN to India, got to the point of adding a payment method and address. Payment timed out and cancelled.

Opened the account on android app. Payment methods were showing in Rupees, selected my card and payment went through.

  • can't get the payment to work for both Turkey and India, using 28degrees….

"Transaction declined. This purchase requires a payment method from your billing country. [OR_RECR_05]"

Is there a way to bypass this restriction?

  • "Transaction declined. This purchsse requires a payment method from your billing country."

Got this error message when attempting to sub from both Turkey and Argentina

  • Signed up through Egypt to get past my credit cards not working, but you'll need a fake address generator

    • How much is it through Egypt? Individual monthly costing me $4 AUD through Ukraine. Not sure how I feel about close to $50 AUD per year

  • My India YouTube Premium stopped working as my credit card was being rejected (after it working for a few years), no combination of alternative credit cards, VPN's (used Windscribe, NordVPN, TunnelBear, VPN.AC and Urban VPN ) and browsers worked. Same issue with signing up in Turkey and Argentina.

Managed to get success in the Phillipines. I read elsewhere on the web that Google is starting to crack down on this loophole, so future success may be limited.

  • I had to do this from the Philippines as well, Turkey did not work. Works out to be 239 Philippines Peso per month for family so roughly $6.50 AUD.

    • this worked for me

    • I got my first YT PH charge (after the first month free), $6.53 + intl transaction fee yet to come.

  • Ukraine worked for me through nordvpn, after failing through Turkey and Argentina

  • Starting to get the card I'm using for Premium via India failing for contactless payments via Google Wallet. Other payment methods with same card (e.g. PayPal) are fine. Multiple vendors over multiple days, but won't know for 4 weeks if YouTube will reject next payment.

Wallet won't all card in Google Wallet to be removed (to try readding it) as the YouTube sub uses it - and too scared to swap YouTube to another payment method.

Could be other things, but posting in here in case others start noticing it.

  • "Transaction declined. This purchsse requires a payment method from your billing country."
Any idea what I can do.
Will prepaid visa card from au post work?

    • I had to use oldubill which provides you with a Turkish virtual CC.

      • Tried but got error msg 'TL cannot be loaded with this card'
        Using NAB visa

        • I topped it up with Revolut, Possibly NAB blocked the transaction

    • Open premium membership in youtube app on apple/android. That worked for me. Seemed to pop up with the corrct currency after it failed on the webpage.

  • Ok for those having trouble subscribing with Turkey. I got my girlfriend (a few months ago now) signed up to YouTube Premium via YouTube Music. That's after trying to subscribe on YouTube, which was declined. But got it to successfully go through via the aforementioned route.

The VPN I used was Hola, but deleted it straight away once the transaction was successful. She also used her Debit Mastercard.
