Welcome to the Ultimate Guide of Youtube Premium Subscriptions via Turkey

Where were we? Ahhhh… yes… we're back again, after 6 months, except this time with an upgraded guide. Most of you should be on this subscription already, but for those who are new or haven't yet hopped on the bandwagon, here's a reminder that it exists :)

After Google increased the prices for Youtube Premium in several countries worldwide late 2022, including USA, UK, Canada, Argentina, Turkey, Japan (etc), we have the following facts:

  • Argentina is no longer the cheapest country to sign up from after being the go-to for years (now ARS 389 / A$2.67 for Individual plans and ARS 699 / A$4.80 for Family plans). Further, they have changed the way they take payments and so many Australian debit and credit cards no longer work for Argentina.
  • India is now the cheapest country to sign up from, although subscribing to the Youtube Premium (Family) plan is almost impossible given India's new laws around payments and now requires a local Indian payment method, something most of us do not have access to. Youtube Premium (Individual) should still be doable using ExpressVPN.
  • Turkey is now the second cheapest and easiest country to sign up from (just under 10 cents more than India)

Since last deal, most OzBargainers have migrated from Argentina to other countries (majorily Turkey). If you tried to sign up to a Youtube Premium Family via India, you probably hit a dead end, with most cards ending up declining due to this reason and this reason. Well if that is the case, hopefully Youtube Premium via Turkey will be a breeze, especially for those who have Google One via Turkey already (confirmed working for me, you will not need to enter a new address and it took me like 30 seconds to sign up to Youtube Premium Family).

Note: You DO NOT need to change your region to subscribe to YouTube Premium (Turkey). Unlike Google One which requires a region change to an extent, security for Youtube Premium is not as tight as Google One. Simply log into your main account, use a Turkish VPN and sign up YouTube Premium.

Available Plans via Turkey:

For price references, Youtube Premium via Australia is $8.99/mth for student plans, $14.99/mth for individual plans & $22.99/mth for family plans

Instructions (Transferring from a different country)

Step 4: Go to https://www.youtube.com/premium and if it shows currency in TRY (Turkish Lira), continue choosing your membership.

Step 6: Fly back home and turn off your VPN. YOU'RE DONE! WOOO! Enjoy your savings :)

ISP Notes (Important)

  • Most VPN services will connect to Turkey, unlike India. Those include NordVPN, Private Internet Access (PIA), free Windscribe Chrome extension (recommended), free UrbanVPN Chrome extension (recommended), ExpressVPN, etc. If one doesn't work, use another VPN

    • If you're using Windscribe and it shows different currencies: keep turning the windscribe on and off. Each time you don't get TRY, turn it off and on, then refresh the Youtube sign up page. You'll eventually land on TRY. Go to https://whatismyipaddress.com/ each time you turn it off/on and see if you land on Istanbul

FAQ

Q: Will I get banned by Google?
A: There’s always a chance, however only a tiny number of people (<5) have actually gotten suspended by Google (see linked previous post in OP). Proceed at your own risk.

Please note the process can be easy for some people, harder for others, or may not work at all.

  • There is no need for aggression in instances where you are unable to subscribe to an international Netflix account. Share your experience so everyone can chip in and help out. There are plenty of examples where hacks shared on this platform do not work for some people, but may work for others:

    • Modem reset for faster internet,
    • Cash back program purchase tracking,
    • Price matching an unobtainable deal or price error,
    • Targeted bargains, and
    • Limited quantity items quickly or instant (bot) sellout.
  • Similarly we know there are cash back users who follow every single step for cash back (turn off ad blocker, have no items in cart, do not click other links, etc.) on their purchases and it does not work, its probably best to move on.There are many users who successfully use this hack and enjoy paying half the price of the Australian membership. Unfortunately there are also many users who have been unable to sign up to Netflix Turkey or Argentina. After all it is intended for people who reside in Turkey or Argentina. If it does not work, I am not affiliated with any of the entities listed below or linked to and cannot guarantee any outcome. I can only read comments on this platform and others to share them with you. Your patience is appreciated. Please do not take it personally.

    • Tried this, failed. Used a half dozen different cards including Revolut and others.

  • +1

Use philippines, turkey rejects the card whereas PH worked straight away

  • Error
Transaction declined. This purchase requires a payment method from your billing country. [OR_RECR_05]

    Edit: Above mentioned Philippines worked.

  • urban vpn Philippines with revolut visa card worked for me (i used the visa instead of the mastercard which is only one time use)

  • I can't even get to the Turkish or Argentine sign-up pages when using Windscribe or Surfshark VPN - always gives the price in UK pounds. Anyone have any idea why - and more importantly, how to stop this?

  • i am using PIA VPN to connect to Turkey. When i click on Youtube premium subcription, i get an error message "Could not verify your country" and it does not allow me to proceed further. Any help to work around this error

  • Any idea how can I transfer money from Revolut to OlduBil so I pay using OlduBil virtual card?

  • Pc, Urban VPN, Phillipines, Revolut worked for me.

I had to disband my previous family which had argentina and turkey payment profile.

Steps after deleting the existing account:
    1.Created a new burner account
    2. Add family member
    3. Signed into UrbanVPN Phillipines
    4. Went to Youtube membership page
    5. Selected Family Plan
    6. Entered Revolut CC, when you click billing country it should populate itself as "Phillipines PH"
    7. Click buy and went through.

Tried 28deg, HSBC did not not work.

    • revolut is bouncing back for me for some reason, keep showing money is reverted

  • As many were mentioning Philippines works.
My setup was ExpressVPN and Wise card.

    1. Activate vpn
    2. Go to youtube premium page, select plan and login as family manager
    3. Currency shown was in Ph peso. Follow prompt to complete subscription.

I think the cost is similar when comparing to subscription via Turkey using Oldubil, accounting in the time spent and transfer fee. Family manager doesn't have to add or change payment profile. And most importantly doesn't change family members Play Store region.

  • I had to close my 28 Degrees account and I couldn’t get my existing India YouTube Premium working with another card. I followed these instructions to renew membership via Turkey but couldn’t get it working. In the end I got it done via Indonesia, which works out to around $11/month for a family membership. That’s double what I was paying earlier with the Indian account, but at least it’s not the full Australia price.

  • +1

Bit of a strange one, removed someone from my current family and tried to add a new account, confirmed VPN was working tried heaps of different ones and no matter what it keep giving me the wrong country error. I ended up signing up for an individual account in Turkey for the same account that was getting the wrong country error. I tried 4 or 5 different VPNs and all gave the same error when trying to join the family :/

  • Anybody paying via Oldubil? This person indicated that payment bounced via Oldubil. Anybody else experiencing the same?

I am still on the 2 month trial period so would have to wait til end Sept to see if all goes thru well.

    • +1

My paymnet went through today with oldubill 59,99 liras

  • doesnt work

  • Damn, finally got round to doing this (via PrivateInternetAccess node in Turkey) and now Youtube website is saying "We couldn’t verify your country". Looks like they are finally onto the VPN hack…? Anyone got a good way to get a Turkish IP address they might not know about?

  • Anyone with existing ones get their setup patched today? Lost access with payment issues

  • My Indian account that I have had for years has "We had a little trouble processing your last payment for YouTube Premium. In fact, you may have already seen an email from Google letting you know there was an issue charging your credit or debit card."

Looks like it'll be back to ads.

    • same

      • +1

Payment just processed when I added the mastercard I use for tidal. All visa bounced.

        • What mastercard are you using? I only have visa from 86400/ubank

            • @Bruceflix: I got the new CBA Mastercard Ultimate and it won't let me pay

              • @Lone star: That's not good news. I'm not due again for a couple of weeks but I've accepted that it will fail sooner rather than later.

        • Thanks, just made the swap and CBA works for me too

  • Tried connecting to Turkey with Nordvpn and got stuck in the payment method

I was using my wise card with TRY loaded and still doesn't work

Also tried connecting to Philippines with Urban VPN and pay with Wise card and doesn't work

    any work around?

    • +1

Last night I successfully connected to the Philippines:

Samsung s23 -> free urban VPN -> connect to the Philippines -> incognito tab in Chrome -> go to youtube premium, continue as normal

The youtube website was slow to load - it appears unresponsive, but it does load with patience. I paid with my revolut card, and I was charged $6.55 AUD for a family account.

      • FYI India is $3.50

  • Does anyone know if this works with Hide My Ass VPN? The prices stay the same no matter which country I connect to.

  • Can someone explain why you would pay for premium when you can basically get it free using YouTube Revanced patches?

    • +2

      YT Music?

    • +2

      iOS ? Other devices ?

    • +1

Revanced is a whole basket of bugs. I've got 3 devices that all get stuck buffering after playing for 1 min. It's a known issue and forums basically say sol.

My car can't install Vanced aswell nor can my TV.

Been using Vanced for years and then revanced when Vanced went down, revanced is actually forcing me to just buy premium lol

  • FYI the Philippines is the only country that worked for me with a monthly Family subscription. I kept getting country error codes with india/turkey. Give it a try, YMMV.

    • Same, tried Turkey/Argentina on the phone and computer with Urban Vpn with both a Mastercard and visa and kept getting errors.
Philippines worked first go with my Coles Mastercard, still much cheaper than Au pricing.

  • Philippines worked for me for a family sub. I used PIA VPN from my mobile and a citibank credit card.

Trying to login to Youtube Premium from the pc didn't load, but the mobile youtube loaded instantly for some reason.

I didn't have to do anything special to my family plan before changing.

  • thanks

  • I have successfully using Youtube Family Philippines. However on the first month anniversary it went back to non-premium (the logo is back to normal, ads are back and no background play), however it still charged my CC and my account still says premium. Anyone has similar experience?

    • Looks like I was on Youtube Music not Premium. All sorted now.

  • I was with Indian account but got email saying can't process with my original credit card, then followed the instruction, both original card and new card do not work. Any idea?

    • Try Philippines.

    • I'm the same. Trying to switch to Philippines but keep getting a payment error with multiple different cards.
      Edit: Nevermind got it working.

  • Turkey and Argentina didn't work for me. Egypt and Ukraine did. Haven't tried Phillipines but a lot of people have also had success with it. Of those, Egypt seems to be the best at around $3.30 aud per month for individual and $6 aud for family. Quite a bit better than Phillipines and Ukraine, at $4.30 and $4.10 respectively for individual.

  • Been trying UrbanVPN (windscribe extension doesn't have Turkey for free) tried to pay via Revolut both disposable/virtual, either directly or through OlduBil, payment always declined

  • Just had success with the UrbanVPN app and signing up via Safari, cheers OP.

  • If you are having an issue, make a new Google account. I wasn't able to get this working for a sibling,it kept giving me the card error.

I made a new account on my Android phone, turned on UrbanVPN,clicked the YouTube premium link in Chrome, then it opened up the YouTube app for me,which i put in my card details and just asked for a zip code. Two months trial, too. So,I get billed in October.

  • Like others here, I signed up to the India account but started getting emails saying to update my payment method because I have a new expiry date and CVV. I entered this a few times but kept getting emails saying payment didn't go through. So I followed the instructions below and added my Wise card as a backup payment method and it's working. Wise also have very good exchange rates, much better than my original credit card payment method which also charged foreign transaction fee.

To add a backup payment method to be used if your primary payment method is ever declined:

    Go to youtube.com/paid_memberships
    Click Manage membership
Next to "Backup payment method," click EDIT
Click Add credit or debit card
    Enter your card information
    Click SUBMIT

    • Thank you. Was able to reactivate my turkey sub with this method

  • My Indian account got nerfed. I'm currently trying to sign-up via Philippines. Keeps getting stuck after entering card details and hitting 'buy'. Just loading forever. I've checked my bank and they have taken $4.38 twice, but have checked my account and it doesn't have Premium. Meanwhile the payment screen is still infinitely loading…

    • What happened when you followed my instructions above?

      • No - this doesn't work for me. My membership expired on the 13th. I am trying to set it up. There's no option for adding a backup payment method when I don't have a current membership.

    • I'm having the same issue for the past few days, have tried various VPNs, browsers and countries(Turkey, Ukraine, Egypt and Phillipines) all to the same result, the only one that even charges my card is when I connect to Ukraine, the rest just stay constantly loading as you described

      • I've given up now I think. Might have to pay full price!

  • +1

i was having heaps of trouble doing this with NordVPN and my 28 Degrees credit card, but it worked when I changed my VPN to Ukraine. Give it a try, its a bit more expensive but way easier

    • Thank you this made life so much easier!

  • Got this to work in Turkey just now after lots of farting around with PC, iPhone, Android, different VPNs. What worked for me:
    - Android phone
    - UrbanVPN app free version, connected to Turkey
    - used a recent Google account set up to get Spotify in Turkey, so this account was setup according to this guide (Method 1 Part 1: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/790069). The payment card set up in this account (as per the Spotify guide) is an Australian ING Visa
    - did the actual individual monthly YouTube Premium registration through the Android YouTube app

I tried for a long time to use my main account but it kept failing, so yes it sucks that my subscriptions won't come across but it will probably only take 5 mins to set them up on the new account

  • +1

Youtube premium page wont even load…

  • "Payment declined - Primary payment method"
Was using Turkey Youtube Premium Family for a few months, but the payment declined this month and i am not able to pay using my existing / new cards.

Can't see this problem with anyone in the comments aparently. Any idea?

  • i spent almost 2 hours trying various VPNs and bank cards. eventually i got it to work with a Zip Pay generated single use card.
the bad news of course is that its single use and i will have to go through all this again next month. /sigh

  • Can confirm Egypt worked for me with family.

  • On my desktop I couldn't get Turkey Family to work on UrbanVPN - error "Transaction declined. This purchase requires a payment method from your billing country. [OR_RECR_05]".

I have just removed the card and turkey payment profile from my google account. I still have an Australian payment profile, even though I dont use my Google account for anything else. For people who successfully were able to get a subscription, how many Google payments profiles do you have?

Unfortunately I dont have an Android phone to try sign up so may try a different region

  • Could not get India, Türkiye, Argentina, or Ukraine to work with Revolut or my nab card. Phillipines worked with Revolut but I’d rather get a year from Türkiye as it’s much cheaper. Anyone know of a payment method that works?

  • Philippines worked for me, 4 or so bucks works I suppose

  • Ukraine worked for me, VISA on Revolut. Thank you :)

  • Ukraine worked here too for the Family plan on Visa (HSBC). Turkey, India, Argentina wouldn't work.

  • +1

Sweet it worked, thanks so much.
At first it didn't work on my computer since I had the loading screen when payment info came up so hopefully this helps anyone.

    1. Change the location on YouTube app to turkey (should be in general then scroll to location)

    2. Just for good measure I changed my gmail address to a random turkey address (https://www.bestrandoms.com/random-address-in-tr?quantity=6)

I don't think you need to do this but I did anyway

    3. Got an android phone bought express VPN and put it on my rev card so I can terminate it after ($20 aud for 1 month)

    4. Turned on express VPN from Android, set to turkey

    5. Incognito mode, signed in to youtube, went to get premium

    6. Got the family plan, used my Oldubil card

    7. Instantly accepted and works now

    • +1

Thanks! Must be needing to change location in the YouTube app that is required now to sign up and bypass the blank loading screen on sign-up. I finally got it to work by using Urban VPN and using Ukraine($6.40 a month is almost double of what I was paying on India but it's still a good saving) as I didn't want to pay for a VPN.

  • Turkey finally blocked Revolut. Bye my sweet Lira :(

  • I have spent HOURS trying to figure this out - the blocker is not having a Turkish virtual card to pay with. Oldubil no longer lets you transfer funds from debit/credit cards any more.
Is anyone able to recommend another way?

    • I recently was successful in loading funds into Oldubil through another method. Refer here for details of how I got it working.

I recently switched from individual YouTube premium to family and can confirm my Australian card declined. When I used Oldubil to pay, it was successful and then after, I managed to go into manage subscription and change the payment method back to my Australian card. Not sure what will happen when it bills me though next month.

      Good luck!

  • Hi OzB fam, could anyone help me with this error message: "We couldn’t verify your country. Please see Help Center for more information." The help center points to the URL below. I'm using UrbanVPN on Windows PC. Been getting a similar error on the Android app.

    https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/13187688#zippy=%2C…

  • I just went with Ukraine after trying turkey an hour. $6 a month I can live with. I'll miss my $3 India though.

  • Got a new card.
Sign up with Turkey. No issue. Did on the pc. Took 5 mins only. Thanks!

  • +3

    Jeez that was a nightmare.
Had the biggest struggle with turkey, Philippines, Argentina in Edge with Windscribe or Urban VPN

What ended up working for me was:
Firefox > Urban VPN > Philippines > Wise Visa (probably could've worked with my CBA card but so frustrated at this point)

    • Thanks Vyktor, this combo worked for me

  • +2

@Vyktor vale Your method works! you can use your regular card.
TURKEY no longer works. It requires your card to have billing details from turkey etc.
Philippines works on firefox only. ($4.30 for individual)

  • Does anyone has problem with their YouTube premium not able to play video in picture-in-picture or in the background anymore?

    • Still works on iOS for me

    • I have figured it out. I was on roaming with VPN back to home. It messed up my IP with google thinking I am still in an overseas location where Google is banned .

  • should I just leave the fake address or can I change it later to my real address? If I need to verify with my actual phone number to use Google Pay, will that cause any issues?

  • @Vyktor vale Your method worked for me as well. I eventually moved to Philippines ($6.77 family plan) with my ANZ reward VISA. Thanks

  • somehow my YT music (via Turkey) on desktop no longer work. Keep getting "an error has occured, pls try again" message pop up. Only works on mobile. guess they are on to it may be?

  • +1

My ING card expired on my Indian YouTube Premium which suspended the membership. Inputting the new card details would not make it work. Trying to resubscribe on a VPN would show INR prices but any time I selected a membership or hit renew, it would just load a blank page.

I tried Turkey and got TRY prices, but kept getting the error OR_RECR_05, even after deleting Indian payment profile and trying a Turkish one with address.

In the end, I got it working by using the YouTube iOS app and paying through the App Store. Bought gift cards for my Turkish Apple ID through Turgame. It’s more expensive at 80 TRY/month for family plan (as opposed to 60 TRY/month paying directly), but still comes to AUD4.50/month for family which is a lot cheaper than other options, including Philippines.

  • +1

@Vyktor vale can confirm your method works as well. Firefox>urban VPN>phillipines>ING card. Thanks very much.

  • my card expired on india sub, when i tried to update the card it failed due to card not being from india. followed steps on this post - cancelled, then tried to sign up via turkey however then also got the OR_RECR_05 error due to card not being from turkey. as others have commented Ukraine and Phillipines don't have this problem. For family plan Ukraine (UAH 149.00 = $6.32AUD ) was cheaper than Windscribe to Phillipines which actually showed vietnamese dong (₫149,000 to $9.71 AUD ), did the steps from the post but for Ukraine using Windscribe VPN and all went smoothly.

  • I’m currently subscribed to a Turkey monthly subscription, is it safe to cancel it and switch to an annual plan?

  • Had some success finally, tried a few times over the last few months.
    1. on a desktop connected to Turkey via Chrome Windscribe extension
    2. entered bank card details and it put my location as United Kingdom, so found a UK address to enter in.
    3. pressed submit and prayed and it worked, charged $1.98 AU per month from a UK address on my card.. not sure how it worked but it did…

  • I was subscribed to YouTube premium monthly individual. I changed to family plan and it didn't let me pay using my local Australian card. I've used my Oldubil card and managed to subscribe.

I then went into manage my subscription and changed the billing method back to my Australian card and my oldubil card as the back up. Not sure if it'll bill my preferred aus card correctly next month

  • I haven't had much luck, I have been using Urban VPN to get the family plan. When I get to the payment window I put in my ING Visa and it just stays on the loading screen for a long time not doing anything. I just give up at that stage. I have tried Turkey and Ukraine. Both same issue.

  • Can confrim turkey is still OK to use. . Just signed a family plan for a friend for $3.61/month, with Australian card.

    • How did you bypass the card not from country of origin error?

    • do you mind sharing which card you are using?

  • just want to confirm - when you are setting up your credit card in the google payment profile for turkey - do you set the AU credit card to the fake turkey address or do you put the actual AU address the cc is linked to?

I have setup a google turkey payment profile with a fake address, but unsure what to do when adding a AU cc to that payment profile? Do I add the AU address or the same fake Turkey address?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    • I didn't do neither of that.
Only put my aussie credit card numbers.

      • which bank do you use? was it a credit card or debit card?

        • Was using my 28Degrees card that is linked to my turkey payment profile but kept getting an [OR_RECR_05] error from Google.

Finally worked though by going thru the youtube app and changing the country to turkey and paying for a premium family plan thru the app. Somehow that was the trick to get it to accept the AU credit card and bypass the [OR_RECR_05] error!

  • my stored paymentt method is expiring end of this month. how do I update? do I need to use VPN?
it seems like i need to enter a Turkiye address

    • I suspect they won't accept your new card anymore irrespective of what you change your billing address to.

      • I managed to edit my expired card. Changed the expiry date and ccv and added a fake turkiye address.

Now I am having issue with my Netflix account. Same card is expiring and had been replaced.
