Mine is now 5 years old. Have an assortment of SCA , Mother's and KMART drying towels. The green sucker still looks and performs as new.
Put through a wash and dry after each use on two cars.
    For $25 it's still a heck of a bargain.

How do you wash it? I should wash mine

      • +3

        learn from car detailer
Wash microfibre towels with LIQUID DETERGENT and NO softener in normal wash cycle
Dry with dryer in Warm settings (not hot)

Did it once with all my towels and came out like new.

        • Dishwashing detergent or laundry? According to a saleslady at Sheridan you shouldn't use fabric softener with any fabric

I've always find the thought of towels and other stuffed used to clean the car being washed in the same machine i wash my clothes in to be very off putting.

          • +1

@Partake0486: How do you stop your soiled clothes from "infecting" all your other clothes?

            • +1

              @pjetson: especially skid marks
              .

            • +1

@pjetson: My soiled clothes aren't "infected" with various cleaning chemicals

              • @Partake0486: I agree mate. Don't want all that stuff leaving residue which could go onto my undies etc.

I wash my car wash things in the laundry sink or in a bucket with cheapo liquid laundry detergent. The cheapest one at Aldi. Powder detergent doesnt work well!

          • @Partake0486: that is why you soak them in a liquid detergent bucket then rinse then to washing machine. they will actually be cleaner than your dirty laundries.

          • @Partake0486:

I've always find the thought of towels and other stuffed used to clean the car being washed in the same machine i wash my clothes in to be very off putting.

After doing a load of car cleaning cloths/sponges/towels, drain the washing machine filter of any residual water, unclog it and run the drum clean cycle once or twice.

            You'll be fine.

      • It goes in with same pile of wash mits, interior towels, glass cleaning towels and assortment of microfibers. A squirt of dawn dishwashing liquid. Washer is at 40°. Mits go back in the plastic drawers in the garage, towels go into the dryer for an hour. Fold up and back in the drawers in the garage ready for next time.
Decided to try dishwashing liquid after a ran out of microfiber wash years ago. Worked perfectly so I kept going. So far no ill effects on the towels.

It absorbs moisture so well it sucks all the moisture out of my hands lol

  • +2

I've also had mine for years and it's still the gold standard IMHO….I simply wash mine by hand in luke warm water when it gets dirty.
You shouldn't wash any microfibre in hot water btw.

    • This or the Woolly Mammoth IMO. Both do the job well. Personally I think the Woolly Mammoth is better, but I am sure others have a different opinion.

Look like Bowdens might have a new mega jumbo extreme towel based on a new YouTube video recently released

  • This or a blower?

    • +5

it's really up to your preference. do you like to suck or blow?

    • +4

      Both.
Blower immediately after washing to blast the bulk off.
      Towel like this afterwards
Then spray on detailer if you're feeling fancy

    • +3

      What blower costs $25?

What knk said. Cos the blower won't get it of ALL of it, but most of it.

      I wash, dry, paint decon; another wash and dry;
Paint correction if needed, then wax and seal.

Then, if I'm up to it, layer on a BO Happy Ending using the pw and then dry again.

So three dries, the blower really helps. I use it for my dogs too.

        What car?

        • Little Golf.

          • @Lord Ra: you must have the best looking Golf in Australia.

            • @ltwo: 🤣
Doubt that mate. It just means my maintenance washes are longer in-between and it stays sharper looking for longer.

        • +2

          Toyota Camry in OzBargain Orange

      • Whats the point of drying before decon, if you're lubing up anyway?

        • Very good point. Next time, I'll pass it (cooler weather now) and see how I go.
I do it because I decon one panel at a time, if the water dries before I get to it, then it leaves annoying spots, that I have to put more effort into. And i'm not compounding polishing every wash, so then it's a PITA.

This was my nickname in college.

    • What did you suck on?

      • +1

        Lolypop

        • Yup, a big lime flavoured lollipop.

    • by college you mean a frat house on campus in the USA right?

Gyeon silk is 10x better than this. It's honestly not even a fair comparison. This always leaves a bit of water, gyeon takes every drop first swipe.

    • are those Gyeons twisted loop?

    • +1

Agreed, i've tried about 5 different drying towels and generously i'd rank this 4th but more likely 5th out of the 5. My green sucker towel has been relegated to just picking up small drips here and there as it's not enough to dry a full coated car even after taking a blower to it.

      • Does my Prado in one hit with no blowing - just.

    • +1

I'll have to give this a go, I've tried some gyeon products recently and I think they are the best I've ever used. Very impressed with them.

      • +1

Get a gyeon silk on special and you will love it.

          What is a good price?

  • +2

Great towel, I've had one myself for years but it's slowly losing its mojo.
I recently purchase a Kmart one, excellent value for the money:
    https://www.kmart.com.au/product/supreme-drying-towel-415277…

  • Half price or nothing!

    • Username checks out

  • +3

Dumb question but has anyone tried using this as a bath towel while camping?

    • +7

It's heavy when wet and dries relatively slowly. Better off with something light which will dry quickly after use/rinsing imo. There are plenty of options to pick from.

  • Don't dry it under sunlight, mine does not suck water anymore after half-year
    https://youtube.com/shorts/vbcFEfHu0eg?feature=share

I don't think it worth $25, found a $4 dry towel on Taobao which works great

    • I dry mine outside where possible. No loss of performance yet. Ymmv if you're a daily user or wash and dry cars for a living.

    • Did you wash it with fabric softener?

      • I washed it by using tapwater only by hand

    • Watch the Bowdens video on how to use the towel…..

Dropping it on, and patting it, won't dry like it does when I use mine on my dual cab.
Couple sprays of afterglow to help too

Likewise, attempting to dry your windscreen with it scrunched up probably isn't the best action

These are good. Have used both and the hi tech drying towels are much better.

    • this looks like twisted loop

      • I've got another exactly the same. But forget where I got it from. Sounds familiar……

      • Is that the tech behind it or the brand name?

        • Tech

  • Shamwow?
