PNY GeForce RTX 4070 Dual 12G Graphics Card $939 + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ Umart & MSY & PCByte & JW

730

Not necessarily sure if it's a deal but it's getting closer tonot too bad compared to the USD MSRP, where in the US the 4070 cards are reportedly just sitting on shelves gathering dust being priced at USD 599 (~ AUD 893 w/o tax).

At least we are getting a good price drop already in Australia, a few days in after the launch of this card.

Nice. Getting better. Still going to HODL.

    • +11

Yep, price trajectory is down and no signs of that changing. Most cards have dropped 10-15% in last 3 months and it looks like that pace will increase

      • What is driving this trend?

        • +29

Cards are overpriced, TSMC presells fab capacity to their nodes so nVidia, AMD, etc can't simply produce less unless they can find another buyer for their allocation and arrange a commercial agreement in time. So basically they are selling slower than manufactured and to a significant degree. They have tried to inflate prices but they are getting pushback from consumers in the form of poor sales because they are shitty value.

At some point they just have to cut their losses and sell their inventory.

          • +14

@nmartin84: Yes! Time to HODL en masse and take back the market. The public have so much power, it's collective discipline that will win the day. I want a new 4090 but not at any price.

          • +1

@nmartin84: While I agree that prices will continue to lower due to poor sales, I want to point out that NVIDIA and AMD can divert the fab capacity to other chips and businesses i.e CPU and GPU for the server market so they are not necessarily forced to cut any losses. Considering the boom in AI - there are other markets for NVIDIA and AMD to focus on for their core business strategy besides affordable gaming desktop discrete GPUs.

            • +1

@2-1: This is true also. There's a lot of demand for chips like the Tesla A100 and recent H100. They're crazy expensive. Not sure how much is demand driven or just cost of production though.

    • +1

      Yup, HODL!

  • +1

Am I crazy for considering upgrading my 2080 Super?

Edit: Still in my infancy stageas of PC gaming just prior to COVID striking having been mostly a console gamer all my life, so it's all so confusing to me!

    • +4

Nope, not crazy at all. Although I'd consider spending a bit extra and getting the 4070ti. Or just wait for the prices to come down a bit more. DLSS3 Frame Generation is the selling point here - it's so good on the titles that support it!

      • +3

The 4070 ti seems to be much better value doesn't it.

      • +4

I was thinking the same thing regarding the 4070ti, I've spent a bit of time researching lately and my lord I just end up confusing myself a little more. Current rig is a Ryzen 7 3700x + 2080 Super and I've become too obsessed with trying to squeeze out extra FPS from games, thinking a beefier GPU upgrade may calm that part of my brain down a little but I've probably fallen down a rabbit hole I shouldn't have

        • +2

upgrading from 2080s to 4070 is like upgrading from 3070 to 3080…

          • -1

@theadeptus1: Would be a bit more than that since the 2080S is slightly slower than a 3060 Ti. I'd say around a 40-50% increase in performance from the 2080S to a 4070. Though i'd personally still go for a 4070 Ti/ 7900 XT as a justifiable upgrade. 4070 is too bandwidth starved (4070 Ti is too, to an extent).

            • @sp1rit99:

4070 is too bandwidth starved (4070 Ti is too, to an extent)

They have the same memory configuration and thus the same memory bandwidth, unless you mean something else? If anything, the narrow bus and somewhat borderline capacity becomes less justifiable on the 4070 Ti due to its higher market position — where 4k performance starts to become more of a consideration.

              • @snep: Ah yep, you're correct same config and specs in terms of memory. Had thought the Ti used faster G6X modules. It is definitely more of an issue on the 4070 Ti which shows to be equal/slightly faster than a 3090 Ti in lower res but falls behind at 4K.

                • @sp1rit99: Yeah, it's pretty blatant product segmentation, good for upselling 4080s/4090s. Alas…

          • @theadeptus1: Cept RT and dlss3 you don't double your effective frames

        • +1

One of the biggest FPS jumps I saw was upgrading from a 3600X to 5800X3D. Another added benefit was the smoothness of everything

      • -1

dlss 3 is fake frames, this is a selling point for you? get proper grunt and turn RT off if you have to, its a gimmick

        • +2

You clearly haven’t used it have you?!

        • Team red strikes again. At least your amd card will warm up your room nicely with winter coming

    • +1

Depends what games, monitor and graphic settings you are after. 2080 super still going for $350ish on marketplace

      • +1

Yeh that's where it becomes icky, Rocket League is the game I put most hours into so really a 4070ti for that is crazy, runs just fine at 1440p@165fps with some really random stutters (only every so often)

I'd love to hook it up to my TV every now and then to play some single player games at 4K (prefer the couch when single player gaming)

I honestly didn't even consider selling the 2080 Super so that information is much appreciated and actually may sway my decision haha.

        • +7

I have a 2080 super myself and feel it's good enough for pretty much everything I need it to do. I'm going to wait at least until the next generation before upgrading.

        • Surely you're running RL on eSports settings (everything min) and maxing out your FPS with no frame drops?

          • +1

@Domingo: Haha honestly there’s not a lot I haven’t tried, I get the dips regardless of the combination of settings, even at 1080p@60hz everything on low. It’s only a very rare dip once or twice a game, and only a microstutter but it’s horribly noticeable and can throw off my already shonky lack of mechanics. It’s obviously something I’m missing with my setup that’s causing it, it wouldn’t be the reason I buy a new GPU just to be clear, but if it fixed it then that is a happy result!

            • @MBix: Have you tried installing a trim win 10 install. I use Atlas OS for minimising ram usage and the like to boost fps

              • @TSH: Never considered something like this actually, probably the one thing I’ve not yet tried. Thanks for the suggestion going to look into it this evening!

        • Maybe play something newer.

    • +16

Unless you desperately need better 4k ultra 120FPS+ performance in the most demanding games right now, you'd be crazy to upgrade a 2080 super in this market, yes.

It's still comfortably above what the average gamer has (most popular GPUs on steam survey are 1650 and 1060).

And you can easily get fantastic results in even the most demanding games, with some very minor compromises, and those only in very demanding games.

I'd save my $ and wait for further price drops while still enjoying great performance in the meantime.

      • +1

You're likely right and if I upgraded I'd probably wanna then get myself a 4K monitor too and that's just unnecessary at this point haha.

With a few games coming up that'd I'd like to sink my teeth into I find myself installing them on PC over my Series X these days for the most part, barring games I play with mates that don't have cross play. Redfall and Starfield are the main two, but I can probably already get a little bit better results out of them with the 2080 Super than what's to be expected on console.

Appreciate everyones input on my brain going 100mph :)

      • +1

The most popular GPU on Steam is now the 3060, it had a huge jump in popularity in the stats there in March.
For 1080p at 60Hz a 1660 is ok for most games.

    • I thought my 2080S was good to go for another couple of years, but then it choked on high settings during the Diablo 4 beta and can only run it smoothly at medium.

First time I ran into this issue since I mainly play on consoles as well. Considering getting a new GPU too.

      • +2

I found similar when Halo Infinite beta was released, ran like absolute poop. Obviously this was almost 2 years ago now but the actual release of the game I can hit 120fps on a fairly high mix of settings, hopefully a similar result for Diablo being more optimised at release.

In saying that I get the same feelings lately when trying to push things. The stutters I get on Rocket League I’ve tried everything to fix, and that’s not a punishing game. Playing Ghostwire Tokyo recently and would love to push it a bit more.

The discussions above I’m going to hold off for now but if a 4070ti drops to a nice price I might pull the trigger

        • +1

Thanks for the input. Guess I'll wait until the official version drops and hope for more optimized settings as well.

Yeah, guess I'll wait for the 4070Ti to drop in price too at this rate.

Was watching the recent Linus video where he resentfully agreed it was good but only because NVIDIA artificially controlled other factors:
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkh9VGCY8as

      • Diablo 4 beta is bricking some gigabyte 3080ti cards

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=or7njUlYTLI

there is something wrong for a lot of people. so be wary of D4

      • It's beta. All cards will choke on poorly optimized games. MSFS2020/RTX 3090 is a perfect example. Game itself needs an update moreso than a more powerful gpu

    • Yes. A 2080 super is still a strong card. You'll barely be impressed with the upgrade. I run the 6600xt (2070 super equivalent) and will hodl for RTX 6050 if 5060 prices are too expensive

    • 4070ti is a good 2080 upgrade for sure.

  • +12

    Another $200 off please

    • +2

And another $100 on-top of that, i'm not one of those people that hodl forever but i know what the prices of these items should be, these prices ain't it chief.

      • Yeah the card should be $450 in my books. But I know that won't happen with zoomers inflating gpu prices over the past decade.

  • +13

GIGABYTE Windforce 3-fan OC card cheaper on eBay. AU $929.00 with SNS4 targeted code.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/175688357018?

Then use Shopback + Westpac Lounge, with $3 challenge, then part pay with discounted gift card (buy the Swap Celebration gift card then exchange to eBay GC - NOTE 10% cashback applies to $50 & $100 gift cards only.)

This should make it cost less than $900 after stacking 3 different deals.

    • +1

Can't combine the coupon with 10/15% eBay cashback offer.

      • +1

darn. So only the APRL17 and APRL15 code will work then.

But $929 + Free shipping + discounted GC still the way to go for now.

        • +6

This was the best I could come up with in terms of a deal that should be available for everyone.

$1,049.00 Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4070 WINDFORCE OC 12G
-100.00 $100 off with code SNSOAPR
          =$949.00
-95.00 10% cashback on $950 worth Celebration Swap gift cards (from 3pm)
=$854.00 (with $1 balance remaining on gift card)

With the targeted SNS4 code and [Westpac] $5 Bonus Cashback with $50 Spend on Gift Cards @ ShopBack via App (Activation Required) there's some extra savings to be had for those who have access to them.

            @HomeAlone: According to this reply
            https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13633027/redir

Can only stack 8 vouches (including gift cards). So effectively can only use $700 of gift cards, giving you $70 discount. Still pretty decent.

            • +3

@Aureus: You can add all of the Celebration Swap gift cards to your balance on their website and swap to a single $750 eBay gift card.

              • @HomeAlone: Awesome. That is good to know.

              • @HomeAlone:

You can add all of the Celebration Swap gift cards to your balance on their website and swap to a single $750 eBay gift card.

Typo in my previous comment. Meant to say $950. Hope I didn't confuse anyone.

                • @HomeAlone: So in that case there would be a maximum amount of $950x8 gift cards usable in one transaction?

                  • +3

@sp1rit99: For eBay gift cards Celebration Swap allows you to swap to any amount from $5 up to $1,000.

eBay has their own restrictions on their usage.

                    • $1,500 per transaction
                    • $2,000 per day
                    • $5,000 per month
                    • maximum of eight Gift Cards in any single transaction (and fewer if you are redeeming Gift Cards in combination with other redemption codes, such as coupons or vouchers).
    • How do you get the sns4 code? I tried it and said I wasn't eligible.

      • It's targeted coupon code and not everyone will have it. To find it, login to your eBay account on the desktop website and look for this section under My Summary

        https://i.imgur.com/YX9haLr.png

The SNS code is a Spend and Save promo that happens monthly. If you don't have it this month you probably will get it the next month.

      Gigabyte > PNY

12GB vram isn't enough for new games in 2+ years. Go with AMD to get your money's worth

    • +17

Now now…don't give AMD any ideas that there is going to be increased demand for their card less they launch new cards at crazy prices, again…just tell everyone you are HODLing until the end of time but secretly buy whatever you secretly buy ;)

      • Honestly this. I worry that the recent vram fiasco will make amd cards overpriced

      • -2

What a Nvidia shill , how does it feel tickling Jensons nuts ?

    • -5

the world is moving towards ai, get NVIDIA to get your money's worth

      • +1

Not everyone wants to generate hentai

      • Cloud GPUs shit all over consumer GPUs for AI content imo though. Unless you're getting some solid use out of yours cloud is almost always better. Plus you can use much larger batch sizes as you're using a GPU you probably wouldn't have bought anyway.

I paid less than $20 to train 60,000 images and I didn't even use half the budget. For $1k I could do that 50 times over which no way I'd do as those images alone was a project 6 months in the making. Sites like google Colab and paperspace gradient help to make it easier to get started.

And no it wasn't anything dodgy, just a uni project.

I was gonna use AI as an excuse to get a gaming PC one day but after this I don't think I'd bother. This was heaps convenient

    • -1

      Or get a 4080/4090.

      • +3

Get two just to be safe.

        • Depends how good your memory is

          • +1

            @reactor-au:

Depends how good your memory is

Yeah anyone who remembers how much the 1080, 980, 780 etc cost will struggle to justify paying triple the price for a 4080.

        • +5

I just bought a RTX 4090, RX 6900 XTX and ARC A770 and install them all into my system.
I'm playing all sides so I can't lose!

  • +22

No one should buy these right now, but these deal posts are good to keep track of the price drops till they reach <$800 soon

  • Good price for GTX4070, thanks a lot!

  • +5

This is lower than the US MSRP after you subtract our GST. Not saying if that makes it a great buy or not.

    • +1

Good point, but doesn't the US MSRP already include state-based sales taxes?

      • +7

Nope. Almost always when talking about US prices for goods, tax is not included. Because sales tax is different in every state it doesn't make sense any other way.

        • -3

The US version of the PCPartPicker site showing $599 price of cards in the US - isn't that the all-inclusive price that the consumer pays though, which includes sales tax?

  • +7

If the 4070 only matches the 3080, then we might as well get the 6900XT/6950XT or 7900XT

    • +2

Yeah, even the 6800xt beats the 4070 a surprising amount of games.

  • +3

    HODL

  • +1

This is worth updating from my Galax 1660s? Only play CSGO and Tomb Raider and soon the RE4 Remake

    • +3

No. There are better GPUs for less.

      • +1

        Can you recommend one?

    • The 1660S should handle RE4 remake quite well if you're after a 1080p 60fps experience.
You can try the free demo to see how it goes.
Don't worry about missing out, prices look to be trending downwards

      • +1

Oh thanks! Didn’t know there is a free demo!

    • RX 6700 for $419 recently. around $435 now

      1440p anything, 10gb vram, 16 lanes pcie4. I got one, solid card.

  • +3

It's a special kind of (profanity) up that Cards AT an over inflated RRP is a 'deal'… HODL!

    • +2

      HODL

  • +8

LOL not even a week and prices are falling on this POS card

waiting on 7900xt and 7900xtx no reference cards

  • +3

Tempting, but hopefully the 4070ti at $1k would appear soon.

    • Waiting for that :) . Will upgrade my 2080 Ti.

      • I am upgrading from a 6600 lmao. I mean the 6600 is fine for overwatch, but I really want to play the new Harry Potter game.

        • Also waiting… upgrade from a 1060…

        • +2

Hogwarts Legacy is a dream come true for all Harry Potter fans. Loving it so far.
