  • Question:
If I don't pay for a 2nd month, but then pay in the 3rd or 6th month for that matter, can I still keep my number?
Would be great for overseas visitors if that's the case…

    • Why not just port to amaysim to keep number, when they come visit port to other $2-10 crazy data plans (70gb for first month)… once done port back to amaysim using the $2 sim, another year done..

Not bad. Even has VoLTE and WIFI calling, though can anyone confirm the WIFI calling? Even better if WIFI calling can be used when you travel overseas (just like my Boost account - for receiving and calling back to Australia)?

Even better if WIFI calling can be used when you travel overseas (just like my Boost account - for receiving and calling back to Australia)?

Only Telstra network allows VoLTE/VoWifi to be used while overseas.

      • Thanks for that. Might just keep paying a bit extra for the Boost then (even though I never end up using up all my allowed data)

  • I have a Huawei B818 4g modem from Optus on Optus firmware. I assume it is network locked. Will this Sim work in that modem so I can give it to my mother in law? She is currently tethering a phone but has data usage issues. Would be nice to provide per a permanent connection that she can stream even low resolution video from. Her eyes are pretty sh!t resolution anyway.

Anyone have any experience with either unlocking this modem or with dodo Sims in Optus locked devices?

    • +1

If same Opus network I don't think you need to 'unlock'.

    • I have that modem, bought from Optus with the Optus firmware. It is NOT network locked but you do need to select the correct APN.

Source: Successfully used Optus, Telstra and Vodafone SIMs.

    • Optus never locked the B818

Seems good for the car head unit. Thanks.

It's a bit more expensive than the Vodafone $30 starter packs that used to go on sale for <$9 but even those are drying up unless buying from sketch Ebay resellers. Plus this is $10 per month vs 28 days for the Vodafone. 1mbp plus 2gb vs 1.5mbp for Vodafone plus 40gb. If kogan doesn't do anymore of the $0-1 sims I might consider switching after I finish the rest of the Vodafone ones. Though I'd miss out on the $30 JB hi fi perks vouchers for new sim activations.

Actually went for this offer a couple of weeks ago. Got my SIM (a week after I filled out the form requesting they mail me one, and I'm in suburban Sydney, so not exactly a long postal route) and tried to activate it last Tuesday (4/4), got some generic error, tried again (and both times they checked my credit card by putting a $1 hold on it) so I called them and played transfer roulette three times until I got connected to a phone with what sounded like an office party going on in the background. Thought I'd be extremely generous and gave them about ten minutes (asking "hello, are you there" every minute or so) before I hung up.
Called back, got transferred twice, then got transferred to an upper level person who said they don't know what the problem is, but I should expect to hear from them in 24-48 hours.

Hadn't heard anything by that Friday (7/4), only had to get transferred two times to someone who looked at my account in their system and said they were still working on it.

Called back this Tuesday (11/4), another three transfers until I got someone who basically said "don't call us, we'll call you". Oh, and they tried to sell me on their NBN plan before I hung up, after telling me they don't know what was wrong with what they were supposed to be doing in the first place.

Decided on Thursday (13/4) I was sick of their shit, called Belong to make sure they didn't port my number over, and they hadn't even received a request for it. Then tried calling Dodo again, only got transferred once, but that was to a message saying that department was closed (despite the hours on their website saying otherwise).

Called again Friday morning, got sent on the transfer bus four times (including once back to the main menu) until I got to someone who could actually perform the cancellation, who actually pleasant to deal with (as best I could understand through their thick accent) but unfortunately the pleasantries of "just cancel the whole thing" only go for about a minute. On the bright side, the holds on my credit card got lifted by that afternoon, about the only thing they seem to have done in a reasonable time frame.

      Hey, you're being too kind.

The credit card holds were likely told to go back to you days earlier and just timed up coincidentally.

Thank you. Staying clear of this.

It’s a telecommunications company. I’d bounce after two business days at maximum.

1mbps is basically dial up but fine for whirlpool forum trolling.

    • Its pretty bad, at the low end of the the early ADSL tech. Still better than 56 kbps dialup
      https://www.ozspeedtest.com/knowledge/what-speed-should-i-ge…

Just the background traffic on a typical device would consume the bandwidth long before a page loads or a stream starts.

    • +3

      1mbps = 56Kbps.

As someone who lived through that, no it aint.

      • +3

Yes and you only got the full speed if you lived near the exchange. 30Kbps I often was connecting at. Would take ages just loading up a basic webpage. Kids these days have no idea. Lol

Dodo on Floptus makes a deadly combination.

  • Has anyone done a speed test in 1mbps?
I had a speed limited SIM for an overseas trip a while back and whenever I tested it, it was always over the 1.5mbps it was supposed to be

  • Used 1mb (from belong not dodo) but was fine for YouTube videos playing in the background and Spotify streaming. but if anything was streaming or phone was doing anything in the background the rest of the mobile experience was pretty painful. you do need a little patience but its totally usable.
It was actally quiet nice knowing that I had unlimited data or such a cheap price, would do it again. On a plus side due to the slowness it got me off my phone a little more so thats a bonus i guess. Long story short anyone paying over $30 a month on a sim only plan at the moment is wasting their money

    • Can you please recommend a good affordable 5G 365 sim only plan on Telstra network.
Current I’m on Belong $55 per month 160GB. I wanna buy boost but it's capped on 150mbps

      Is 150mbs enough speed.

      • 150 is more then enough, plus boost are back to top speeds for the next 6 months i beleive

      • +2

Why do you pay so much? Downgrade to $19 a month then buy the data on classified (around $5-6 per 100gb). So you could be paying $25-30 for the same amount of data. You can also buy data in bulk. Speed is capped at 100mbs, which is very Fast.

        • Thanks heaps Fozzie, how do I go about that?

          • @ekstrabraket: First downgrade in your app to the $19 a month. At the same time go to the classified ads and search for belong data for sale. If none is available put an ad with your request, saying how much data you need and price (If you get 500gb the going rate it’s between $25-30).

            • @fozzie: Thank you

              • @ekstrabraket: No worries, then forgot to mention just top up the data from classified (or any other place) when you need. The data always banks unlimited, so you can leave data there and you can use as you go.

                • @fozzie: I think I might just buy Boost 365 and switch back to Boost. I wonder if boost offer 1mbps

                  • +2

@ekstrabraket: Ok, I think it depends how much data you are after too. Boost doesn’t offer shaped data as far as I know.

      • recommend a good affordable 5G 365 sim only plan on Telstra

Mate’s just upped their $45pm 5G Soul Mates tier to 120GB (not sure if it’s capped but I pull well over 300Mbps on 5G).

Telstra wholesale, unlimited calls and text.

1mbps a bit slow and YouTube will hang. Yes dodo service is also slow as dodo bird.

  • +1

    credit check?

also is the title wrong? If you pay $10 upfront, shouldn't it be considered prepaid? I also don't see postpaid anywhere on dodo website…

  • Is there something like this but on the Telstra network? (including NVMOs) - eSim is ideal

    • Apparently Belong had a $15 5GB 1Mbps deal but it is no longer available to new customers

      • +1

It’s not available for anyone. That plan has become $19 a month now.

  • Thanks for the inspiration.

$19 data sim at JB Hifi looks good to me too.
Or $10 bundle add on at Telstra but entry cost of $68 into bundle plans ($49 at JB as well) is too high.

  • Just a warning for any existing Dodo users wanting to transfer to this - I wanted to transfer my son's $5 a month over, and they were obviously happy to do it.

In the last email before putting the change order in, they mentioned excess data would be $5/GB. I said I was after the shaped deal as shown on their website. They then advised that plan is not available to existing users at this stage, only new users. So obv cancelled the plan change for now.

    • Cancel and join again. Unless they have some rule where only customers who haven't been with them for 6 months, minimum, are considered new customers.

Which they probably do, so perhaps port out to something else for 6 months and then sign-up again.

    • I was literally thinking about this. My mums on the $5 plan and was going to switch over. But just like the reply above. Just port out and come back to the network i guess. I mean it doesn't hurt to give them call and try.

  • I got my mum on the $5 M2M with DoDo so this might be a good alternative to switch her onto although i may have to port out and port back in.

Anyone know any $10pm plans with no commitments and data shock/rollover?

Have my old man on the belong $10pm legacy plan which was great.

Thanks OP anyway. will consider this over the weekend

    • Does the $10 plan still have 64Kbps shaping?

      • He doesn't have that issue. Data works fine on this one. He still has the data banking up to 500gb so he's sweet

    • Anyone know any $10pm plans with no commitments and data shock/rollover?

Yes, although it's technically just under $11/mo due to 28 days instead of 30.

      https://www.amaysim.com.au/plans/28-day-sim-plans/10-starter…

Prepaid unlimited plan w/1GB data (just set it to autorenew), it has data banking and if you run out of data your data is just suspended since it's prepaid there is no data shock. You can buy another 1GB for $10 if really needed though.

Both of my girlfriends parents are on this plan and it has been smooth sailing.

      • Love the last line. Made my day. :)

While reading comments…it reminds me old days. When i had sony Ericson and 2G plan. Downloading 5mb song sometimes took 30min. And if it get cancelled then had to do it again. Then comes opera mini… Multiple tabs, resume download..it was browser from heaven.
