            • @huntress_love:

it's definitely the billing date, which for most is the order date

              Thanks.

Seems like it might be best to port out after a couple months then.

  • Well, I ported over from telstra tonight. The port out of telstra was done at like 7.40pm - but Mate is not active and now outside business hours.

Not really sure what to do?

    • Active now. Service looks really good so far.

  • Been trying to activate buy I keep getting the error

"oops, there seems to be an issue - please try activating your mobile SIM again later, or email us at [email protected]"

    which is very annoying.

    • I have exactly the same problem - tried on mobile and phone, multiple browsers, disabled vpns etc. I've emailed them but no answer, of course. Any solutions?

        log-on to Self-Care Login: https://mymate.letsbemates.com.au/sion/
if you don't have a password, just recover it from the forget password link below the boxes using your "mate code"
then activate from there. it will take approx 2 hours to activate though (if you're getting a new number - don't know how long if you're porting)

        • Thanks - appears to have worked.

        • Thanks, I had the same issue and it helped.

  • Worst service, transferring from Aldi mobile, mate disconnected aldi mobile and now told the number is in limbo and now I have a disconnected phone for 2 days as they said that's the resolution time, after contacting them they advised nothing I can do,……warning so no worth $1 as I write they caused this damage all within 30mins

  • Just ported over waiting for my activation and saw this when I logged in

    bill cycle 02

Is that the date of my bill cycle?? As I did 'buy' this on the 2nd but just activated it…

    • Yep, you lost 21 days but they will refund prorata on $1/month, so you should have about 70c in credit

      • Wow that sucks, but I guess for $1 didn't expect much..

  • Just ported over from Amaysim, relatively painless and routine. However, VoLTE and VoWifi are not working. Calls are over 3G but data is at 5G.

  • +3

Just got confirmation from Mate that the discount rate begins from signup.

If you delay activation by a month the $1 rate only lasts for the next two months.

      Old news champ 👍🏿

      • +3

        Great post mate

  • Does anyone have experience decommissioning one of these numbers without a port out?

    • Message them 30 days before you wish yo discontinue service

      • Bit of context would help, please mate.

Personal experience? Instruction given by a representative? What you‘ve gleaned from parsing the T&Cs? Advice from in-chat support?

        • +1

All MATE plans (internet and mobile) are month-to-month services with no contracts and are billed on a recurring monthly basis until you notify us that you wish to cancel

          • Visiting our support page and selecting the “chat to us” box.

          • @easternculture: Ta. Nothing about notice though

            • @0jay: Someone mentioned somewhere in the comments if you can bother reading 4 pages or ctrl F

              • +1

@easternculture: Alright, ta. I’ll make time for that over the weekend.

Fast connection, have to say. Better than Belong from same location and Belong use Telstra wholesale too.

      https://www.letsbemates.com.au/mate/faq/how-do-i-cancel-my-m…

You can cancel your MATE mobile service at any time. The amount owing will be the cost of any usage incurred up until the time of cancellation, and the minimum monthly charge will be pro-rated for any unused days in accordance with your monthly billing cycle.

  • I'm in Metro Brisbane. If I order today, will I still be able to get the SIM before the 31st and activate it?

    • I wouldn't risk it given it won't ship till Mon at earliest.

If you order and take delivery but then decide not to activate they'll hit you for the cost of registered post.

      • +1

        Thanks Mate1!

      • It should be ok. The plan starts from when you order the SIM, not when you actually activate it. As long as the SIM is ordered and paid for before March 31 it should be ok as the plan begins when the SIM is purchased.

        • SIM has to be activated on or before the 31st.

OP’s stated this in several posts.

          • +1

@0jay: I think that the OP is totally wrong. In my experience the plan began on the second when the SIM was ordered, paid for and the account was automatically created. And when you activate the SIM it just credits you for any days that it wasn't activated. But the plan for $1 was already running when the SIM was paid. You see my plan for $1 was already running for weeks (since i paid for the SIM on 15 Feb) before i activated the SIM.

Just think about it they can't expect people who bought their SIM on March 31 to then suddenly have the $1 deal forfeited just because they didn't have the SIM card in their hands to actually activate it. As long as the SIM was bought between 15 Feb and 31 March you are totally fine.

If you read the T&C. It just states to sign up between 15 Feb to 31 March 2023 and activate a new plan. It does not say activate a SIM during that time. Signing up means when you've ordered and paid for the SIM (remember this is postpaid, not prepaid, meaning the service is immediately activated on SIM purchase). The system creates you a MATE account and it automatically activates the $1 per month plan on the account the second that's done, not when the SIM is actually activated. You could activate the SIM on 1 April 2023 and you've still got the plan as long as the SIM was purchased before the end of 31 March. That's why you've got to create an accout during SIM purchase as it creates the account and then starts the plan at the same time. Being a postpaid mobile service.

            https://www.letsbemates.com.au/includes/uploads/Important%20Stuff/mate_$1_mobile_promotion.pdf

Basically every thing i've been saying about this is nothing but true and i've been trying to help. So don't fret if you buy the SIM next week up to the end of March 31 you've still got the $1 plan already started at the SIM purchase and account creation during that order. Activate the SIM when it arrives and you're fine.

            • -1

              @hollykryten:

I think that the OP is totally wrong

The OP is a company rep.

Makes it pretty clear in the post linked below

              https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/13384560/redir

              • +1

@0jay: I know you're going to say otherwise but i think the rep is wrong about that. You see you shouldn't believe every thing a rep says because they are just human and make mistakes. In my experience is as long as you buy the SIM and it activates/starts the plan onto your account during the payment process you're fine. You even get an invoice for the plan when you process the SIM order.

                • -1

@hollykryten: You obviously have your reasons for stating this position. I’m just not a person who can afford to cop unexpected expenses because I listened to someone on the internet who contradicted the carrier’s interpretation of their own T&Cs.

I reckon a lot of folks on here are similarly placed, therefore I’m happy to express the view that your position is unlikely to be a good bet.

                  • +1

@0jay: Just to prove it. Here's a portion from my invoice from 15/02/2023. It clearly says that the plan had already begun for an entire month. Paid for and every thing fully done and dusted. Notice how it says good mates 10GB 15/02 - 15/03. It the plan had already begun and secured. So i say again the plan actually is activated and begins from the date which you buy the SIM, not when you activate the SIM card. It's a post paid service. You've got until the end of March 31 to buy the SIM, and you're fine. Regardless of what the rep claimed as he/she was fully wrong. And i say again you could buy this even on March 31 and still get the $1 deal the plan begins from the date of SIM purchase.

                    • -2

@hollykryten: So you’ve been with them a little over a month and you’re confident you can parse your invoice in such a way that it proves other people are well placed to risk their money on a freebie deal that may well spin out into a not so freebie after all.

                      Have at it.

                      • +1

@0jay: It's not really a freebie it still costs $1 per month. And yes i'm 100% confident that as long as the SIM is bought before the end of March 31 you won't be risking any thing. You receive an invoice right after confirming that the plan had been activated and it also shows on the MATE account.

                        • -3

@hollykryten: They make em bold in Rockhampton, eh comrades?

How about you offer to reimburse this fulla for the $12 they’ll hit him for postage if you’re wrong?

                          • +1

@0jay: Well any way i can see i'm not getting any where. I've said what the actual truth is. Join up to MATE mobile (post paid) by purchasing the SIM before the end of March 31 and you get the $1 per month deal regardless of if you even activate the SIM card a week later after you receive it in the mail. Good bye.

                            • -3

@hollykryten: So confident is Holly that she’s unwilling to pony up $12 to seal her assurance.

Quite the seer I must say.

                              • @0jay: Yep. You actually order the post paid plan with this during the SIM card purchase. The plan is already activated from the date of purchase. It's not like a prepaid $2 SIM where there is no plan active on the SIM card when you activate the SIM and you have to order one later. The post paid plan is already active on this before you even receive the SIM card in the mail.

Also just think about it does MATE expect people who say have purchased their SIM say a week before March 31 to then suddenly miss out on the $1 deal if say the SIM goes missing the the mail and then so a replacement SIM arrives after March 31. No sir, they don't, the plan is already active when they bought the SIM, they however get reimbursed for any days that the SIM was not activated.

                                Have a good day!.

Next time don't believe every thing a rep says as they are human and can make a mistake.

                                • @hollykryten: I actually agreed with your logic, just weird that their t&cs and faqs all say “sign up and activate “, unless they’re trying to trick customers into signing up early instead of leaving it to the last day of the promo

  • If my join date is 15/2, but I ported my number on 8/3. Is my three months 15/2-15/5 ?

    • basically yes. if you continue past 15/2 you will be charged the full rate, not the $1 rate.

      • +1

        Did you mean 15/5?
Ok. Already set a reminder to port out before that.

        • yes sorry 15/5. I did the same (set reminder) but I can see a lot of people getting burnt.

  • Wow.

Can't activate either of my 2 SIMs.

They say the SIM number is invalid….

    • I got this a few times too, just try again a bit later, it eventually works.

      • Yes i wonder if the activation server might have been down at the time.

    • Bit late but I ordered 2 sims on different accounts, and each account is sim specific so had to have both on hand to see which was which

  • +8

Looks like it's been extended: "Between 15 February 2023 and 16 April 2023, sign up using the promo code MATE1 and activate a new MATE mobile plan to get your first three months of standard service for $1 per month."

    • +1

      Gosh, good to know.
I signed up last Friday and I am in VIC. Last tracking update says the Sim card is still in NSW.

  • Postpaid is confusing.

If I sign up for this tomorrow do I only get 2 months service, or 3 months?

And if you don't want to continue how/when do you cancel so you only pay $3?

    • +1

If I sign up for this tomorrow do I only get 2 months service, or 3 months?

3 months. Clock starts ticking from the day you sign up.

And if you don't want to continue how/when do you cancel so you only pay $3?

I'd play it safe, and cancel or port out at least a couple of business days before you hit 3 calendar months.

As per the recent post by @the shadow, the offer has been extended to 16/4/23, so you don't necessarily have to sign up tomorrow.

      • Thanks. On both counts.

  • @rfc850 When will MATE have esim?

  • Mate seems to come preinstalled with something similar to Vodafone's Call Catcher, or maybe, like Vodafone, this is only activated when voicemail is disabled. Anyway, I've disabled voicemail and now I'm confronted with this Call Catcher like set up; somebody can leave a very brief message and it is sent to me as a text message. This Call Catcher like service may be useful, but just in case, I'd like to know how to deactivate it. My question is, can anyone tell me how to cancel Mate's "Call Catcher"?

  • For Telstra it's called Message2Txt, I've no idea what Mate call it. These are the instructions for Telstra:

Message2Txt® converts a 10-second voice message into an SMS and is activated by default on your Telstra mobile service.

If you activate MessageBank® then Message2Txt® will be turned off until you deactivate MessageBank® again.

To turn Message2Txt 'off' or 'on', send an SMS to 144 with the following text…

[144 and the supplied codes do not work with Mate]

    • +1

A person on Mate Mobile might have to ring them up and see if they can request that Message2Txt can be turned off if they don't want it. I know that Telstra customers have to phone Telstra to turn it off. But i'm not sure about Mate Mobile because you can't just phone Telstra directly as that's only for Telstra retail customers.

  • You know what, I gave up. I did have a conversation on chat but it was pretty clear the customer service agent couldn't really understand the difference between voicemail/messagebank and Message2Txt. I did ring the help number but it gave no indication of wait time so I gave in and re-activated messagebank. Thanks for all the help

  • I am waiting mor than one week to port in to Mate from Boost.
Customer center said my number is stuck. I don’t know what to do.

  • +1

Data allowances appear to have increased some time over the past 24 hours. eg; Soul Mates has doubled from 60GB to 120GB per month (not that I need it, when I average less than 6GB per month). They've also increased over at Tangerine too. (Perhaps other Telstra-based MVNO's also, but I haven't checked.)

    • The Good Mates plan which i''m on still seems to be at 10GB per month.

    • +1

Can confirm the 60GB 5G is now 120GB

      100GB 4G unchanged.

      • I wonder why it was only the one plan which got the quota increased.

        • Looks like they dropped the Elite tier.

          120GB for $45 a month on 5G’s pretty good

          • @0jay: I'm lucky to use even any where near 10GB of data per month so it's no good for me. Lucky for those who are heavy users.

            • @hollykryten: I’m fine with 60GB a year on my phone but use 4G for home broadband too.

I can get by on 40GB a month but the trend seems to be to jack the allowance and keep the monthly fee fairly constant, although Belong’ve just jacked their entry tier fee twice in what seems like less than a year (same allowance).

$45 a month’s the absolute limit of what I can pay so it’s not ideal for me (and I’d never get through that much data) but it seems like way better value than a lot of other offers around.

      • Can I change my plan to this and still keep the $1 deal?

        • You keep banked data changing up, don’t know about the $1 rate.

          Is it a ported number?

          • @0jay: Yes I ported

            • @inherentchoice: Ok so no recourse to cancelling the service and activating a new SIM on the other plan.

I’d argue that given they specify you keep any banked data when changing up a plan (either up in capacity or over to 5G was how they put it before the 60GB plan was increased), and all plans are covered by the $1 for first 3 months offer, then you have a pretty good chance they’ll allow it.

        • Can confirm you can upgrade to the 120GB and keep both your original data and the $1/3mnth deal for the new plan

I did on the phone which allows the change to be applied immediately.

I think if you change online, the new plan allowances occur at beginning of the following billing cycle.

  • Stupid question: if I order a sim and activate it,will I still get the full three months?

    • +1

Yes. The offer was extended until 16th April. If you order it right now and pay for the SIM you get the plan for the 3 months activated straight away. You can login to the account and see it's already active right in there after purchase. But you have to wait until the SIM card arrives in the mail before you can use the service that you paid for. But they reimburse you (as account credit) for any days which you couldn't use the service due to not having the SIM card activated yet.

      • Thank you very much! I'll take up this offer and port over when it arrives.

  • Your MATE mobile plan just got double the data! Your soul mates 5G plan now includes 120GB data per month ongoing at no extra cost! Download our myMATE app, use our self-care portal, or dial *159# to check your data. Thanks for being our mate!

    • Ditto !

Also seems they've added some lower GB plans for the 5g offering

  • Wow. porting over before the long weekend of easter is probably the worst decision i made… this has been the longest and most painful port over experience i have had so far.. noone is working at mate to answer my calls to assist with the process. more than 24 hours since i ported over still not working

    • It probably won't happen until after next Tuesday because i think that porting is done manually by people at Mate during business hours. Yeah you should have waited until next Tuesday to start the porting.

  • I got an email confirming shipping but did it did not contain a tracking number. Is that normal?

  • +6

The offer end date has been kicked down the road some more, to 30/4/23.

  • +2

Well i just got invoiced my third month for $1. So this deal was not nonsense.

    • Glad it worked out, Holly but it was a bit of a punt on your part to proclaim this was how it’d go for sure.

  • Anyone else on the now-120GB plan finding that their data usage and balance figures don't add up since the data allowance was doubled?

    • How do you mean don’t add up?

There’s databanking so you might have more than you expect just by virtue of not having used all your data from the previous month

      • My billing month ticked over yesterday, and the current billing month's usage is correct, but the previous month was showing that I'd used 60GB more than I actually had, and 60GB less went into the databank than expected. Coincidently, 60GB is how much the plan went up by earlier this month. Not that I really care or need it, and I'll be porting away to the next deal next month anyway.

  • When is the best date to port out of mate so I don’t get charged full price ?

    Ordered date 8/3/23
    Activation date 21/3/23

    Billed 1 dollar 8/3/23
    Billed 0.60 dollar 7/4/23

I was going to do it a week before the 8/6/23, but not so sure now after reading posts on here.

    • As I understand it, @kdmeir, you're on target.

You'll want to port out a few business days prior to the 3 month mark of your order date.

So, I just as you indicated, a few business days before 08 June.

  • Any international calls included?

    • On some plans, to some countries. Details on their web site.

  • I'm with Mate for NBN with a $20/m intro discount. If I bundle a new mobile service, will I get an additional $10 off my NBN? Will I lose the $20 discount? If I later port out the mobile service, will it impact my NBN?

    • +1

Their chat answered me. Yes, no, no.

It's too late for the Sim to arrive in time for the end of my billing month with my current provider, so hopefully they extend it again. Otherwise I might just sign up on the 30th anyway and forego 3 weeks with my current telco.

Edit: Scrap that. AGL gives pro-rata refunds when you cancel. Well, according to their T&C's anyway. Hopefully they don't make it as difficult as they made it to update my credit card details.

  • trying to cancel signup which didn't use the promo code, its online chat is always offline. And then its website is down completely. It looks very unprofessional.

    • +2

Phone staff are really good in my experience

    • Yep, web site is currently down, phone line is down, for the last 8 hours according to their Twitter feed! Not a good look at all….

  • -1

Just wondering, ordered today but not sure when i will receive it, what if I ordered b4 30/04 but activate after this date? Full price?

Hi, would also like to know this. Cheers
