  • these guys used to be good, Specially with customer service, but I had to leave then due to slow NBN and standard answer "restart the modem" every time. I was even told to restart the NBN modem every 10 days..lol

    • NBN has nothing to do with mobile network.

      • "specifically customer service"

  • Are the sums delivered from Eastern States? My plans expiring on the 23rd, not sure if I can get this in time

    • My guess is that it's coming from Sydney because Mate Communicate is based there. And it's likely to be shipped through regular tracked mail. Probably no express shipping on this.

      • Thanks, will get it for next month

  • whats the cost of additional data..if one runs out?

    • +1

No automatic charge. $10.00 per 1GB bolt-ons available (maximum of 5).

      • +1

Good to know obviously the expensive way tho !

  • Good deal, anyone knows if Aldi's $5 pay-as-you-go plan can reserve/refund the unused balance? I am planning port in number from Aldi and port out after 3 months

    • +3

      LOL

    • Too bad. "Any credit on your account will be forfeited when you port out and we will not refund the value."

  • great deal

  • +1

When entered address, no street type found. I don’t think it will pass credit check if it doesn’t match what’s on the drivers license.

    • DM me the address if you are having issues.

      • DM'd you. There is no "Rise" under the Street Type dropdown.

        • +1

          Requested to add this, thanks.

          • @rfc850: My street number is 23A, but it only allows me to type number 23 but not A into the collum

          • @rfc850: thanks. Could you let me know when this has been added?

  • What is the cancellation policy like?

  • Can I use this in my unlocked Huawei mobile broadband modem? Or do I need a specific type/programmed sim?

    • +1

Will work in any unlocked device.

  • Hi rep
My existing Boost plan expires 20 March
I had planned to purchase this mate offer now, so I receive the Sim card in the mail

I plan to activate and port my existing number on 21 March.

    Is this possible?

I'm getting asked to make a payment today. Does that mean my 3 months will start now?

Also, the sign up form has asked for my mobile number already. Just being cautious…I don't want the port of my existing number to start now. Need it to start 20 March.

    Thanks Op

    • +1

Yeah you've got until 31 March 2023 to activate the SIM according to the rep. Your plan should work fine.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/757162#comment-13384560

The 3 months kick starts when you activate the SIM card, not when it was purchased.

And that mobile phone number on the purchase ordering form is only for contact communcation if Mate needs to ring you if there's a problem. You're safe entering your current mobile phone number there. The SIM porting won't begin until you start the SIM activation process and enter which phone number you want ported over in the SIM activation page.

      • Thanks! Appreciate it

    • +1

      Name checks out

  • +2

Weird! Why does it assume that everyone lives in apartments?

    Unit no
Unit type (no option for house or duplex etc)

    • Poor system requirement gathering and validation

    • You can enter a house address. If you live at a house address then just leave unit number and unit type as blank (it's only needed to be entered if you live in a unit and need it shipped there instead, it's not mandatory for the fields to be entered unlike what it might seem). And then just below it enter the streeet number into the street number box, street name into street name box and street type into street type box. That's how you do a house address. Hope that might help if some people get confused.

Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any option for Duplex.

    • Unit no and unit type is not mandatory - I can see the form indicates that they are with a *, will get this updated.

  • damn it, i am already on this plan.

      checkmates

  • Got the 5G plan.
Time to port out from WW mobile
Makes the amaysim iphone 12 mini deal with $120 3 month sim plan look like a rip off (for the mobile plan offcourse)

  • +1

Op, would this require a credit check to apply?

  • Mate .. I just got a few amaysim with 150gb still .. 🤣

  • -2

Be careful, if you regret it and want to cancel this. They will charge you $12 dollar for shipping cost. Doggy company. This happened to me last time for their internet + mobile sales.

    • +5

      Doggys are cute

      • As is the style. 😅

    • +1

Not sure what the issue is, there's nothing dodgy about it: https://www.letsbemates.com.au/mate/faq/i-dont-want-to-activ…

If the SIM card is sent out and you decide to cancel, we still have to cover the P&H costs.

      • What if I activate and cancel after 2 months. Will I be charged?

        • You can cancel/port out at anytime.

There are no pro-rata refunds or credits if you cancel your account during your billing period.

          • @rfc850: I mean will I be charged P&H costs if I cancel after few months?

            • +4

@CheckMateWin: No, this only applies if you change your mind and don’t wish to activate the SIM.

      • -1

wow, you add all the others information but not this one. Without pointing out this by me, I believe most of others don't know this. This is doggy, because you don't provide all the critical information.
I can recall now, I tried to cancel the internet due to bad speed and so as mobile which is part of bundle. You said “free to cancel at any time" and hide this information ON PURPOSE. I have to be charged $12 dollars without being given any notification. Isn't this doggy? Sh""t company!

        • Tell me you didn't read the CIS without actually saying it…

      • +2

I believe it is dodgy as this charge is not stated during the order process, the Full T&Cs linked or the CIS (happy to be corrected). An FAQ is not part of the contract.

I understand you run a business and it makes sense to charge those wasting your time, but the norm for larger companies is that any unactivated SIMs from similar deals are counted as a write-off, so it may come as a shock for those even after reading your terms in detail.

  • +1

i use their nbn and mobile Sim. in Adelaide. travel for work and have never had issues with either service

  • Churn day!
Just churned Belong to a $29 Lebara kit that Coles sold for $4.
    Could have saved $3!!

    • Wasn't that the $14.90 extra small kit?

      • When kits go near the 6 mo expiry date each local store manager can set prices.
Our local Coles is usually setting funny low prices for a given time only.
        This time I was lucky.
But their system is weird: Minties from $3.50 down to 18c and suddenly back to $3.50 despite the use by date is tomorrow.
Amaysim kits are pretty well un-sellable. I had one but all numbers in my phone book were unable to be used.
Nobody buys Vodafone kits as they require a credit card to activate. Lebara only wants a drivers license.

        • Minties from $3.50 down to 18c and suddenly back to $3.50 despite the use by date is tomorrow.

Yep . Love my local woolworths.
Anything that has one day expiry is reduced by 90%.
Great for next day meals. Loving the sushi and rice paper rolls that gets reduced from over $6 to 20c

          • @easternculture: Wow! We never see that in Cairns.
Tried the Gordonvale scan and go, the first one north of Brisbane. Put 2 items into the trolley but a supervisor had to scan them again.
On our Coles they have 2 security firms. One for the store, one for the centre. All day long they chase shoplifters. Staff are at their limit.
I get the salty caramel icecream and the lemon lime bitter concentrate at Woolies, sometimes cheap Nespresso compatible capsules.
No Aldi here for 1500km. The new Woolies in Cairns Central is so crappy and never even has any specials.

        • Ok cool. I've never noticed Sim kits on clearance. The one I saw was part of the normal catalogue.

  • I have my internet with MATE would I still be considered for this promo?

    • I'm also keen to know this as I have NBN with Mate, and this deal looks good.

The copy seems to state "sign up using the promo code MATE1" so I reckon you need to sign up for a new account which is not ideal.

    • +2

Yes are eligible, provided you add a new mobile service to your account.

You can do so here: https://www.letsbemates.com.au/mate/add-a-mobile

Alternatively, you can call our sales team and do it over the phone (13 14 13) or livechat with us online.

  • "If the referred customer signs up for an nbn service, or an nbn + mobile bundle, the referral credit is $50.

If the referred customer only signs up for a mobile plan, the referral credit is $25.

Unfortunately, there is no credit applicable to the new customer."

  • So, does who signed up, can you please confirmed if a credit check were performed?

    • They cannot credit check you without form of ID

    • +1

No, they didn't check since no ID was required for placing an order. May need ID upon activation

    • No credit check here

  • Awesome just signed up ❤️

    • Got shipping notification this morning

  • what happened to Tidal ? it was the only thing that was worth considering.

  • +2

The order form is janky as hell.

It fails to detect auto-filled input, so you have to go back and add/remove a character. Then my auto-filled card details threw a "Failed to fetch." error when attempting to submit the form.

    • -2

I don't know how you can't fill out the super basic form tbh. I was signed up in less than 3 minutes…

    • It’s probably a issue with your browser or a ad-blocker

  • +1

when will international roaming will activate?

  • -1

Please put a note of $10 sim card delivery fee in the title or description.

    • +1

Huh. I used a prepaid gift card with $4 balance lol

    • In their FAQ -

Do I have to Pay for Delivery?

Nope! We'll ship out your SIM card(s) free of charge, once your order is processed

      • Oh my bad, a few ppl mentioned sim delivery and handling fee so I thought that's the cost payable upon order.

        • I didn't get charged a fee for SIM delivery.

  • Great deal. I'd so change if my $25 P/month Aldi mobile wasn't sitting with nearly 300gb in the databank.

  • +1

    Nice deal.
Almost signed up, but realized there is no international roaming. Our upcoming overseas trip stood in the way, my loss!

  • +7

Doing the lords work and checking out the fine print, in regards to terminating the plan before the 4th month kicks in:

"15. Month-to-month, casual or ‘no contract’ terms
If a Plan or Contract is described as ‘month-to-month’, ‘casual’, ‘no contract’ or similar:
    (a) we may terminate it on at least 30 days’ notice; and
    (b) you may terminate it on at least 30 days’ notice, taking effect at the end of a Billing Period (eg. if you
give notice on 26 March, your Contract ends on 30 April next)."

OP - Can you confirm if this promo plan falls under one the above categories?

  • +1

    how about roaming?

  • The regular pricing after 3 months is pretty ordinary.

  • there seems to have been an error with your payment:
    Failed to fetch

it won't let me get out of this error

  • Requested a code from a random OZb,

How does this work ? someone has to PM me a code and then I use their code in the signup process ?

  • When filling out payment details the form shows "What you pay today". This is showing the monthly charge at regular price (In my case $25), is this correct?

    • +1

      Should show as $1

      mobile plan soul mates 5g 60gb $45
      promo code: One dollar mobile
$1 per month for the first three months - $44
      your monthly plan cost $1
      what you pay today $1

      • Thanks, Strange mine is showing

        mobile plan
        better mates 22gb $25
        promo code: One dollar mobile
$1 per month for the first three months
        your monthly plan cost $25
        what you pay today $25

        Will try again later

  • Thanks mate

  • +3

My street number is 23A, but the signup page only allows me to type number 23 but not A into the column

    • Having the same problem here

    • I end up putting a unit number and a villa type there…

  • Any idea how long activation takes?

I activated via web by inputting my details and the sim card. Is that it?

  • +1

Recieved sim today. Ported from woolworths. Port completed in 2hrs
    All running fine.

    • Did you have to swap sims or kept running your old one?

  • Hi, I have PM'ed you about my street type not being listed in your drop down menu :)

  • +1

I started the activation process, but when I clicked on the SMS it just sent me to the portal, there was nowhere to enter the code I was sent to start the process.

    • +2

Same here, when I ported my number to Mate earlier this week. I had to use live chat to get it sorted. The other thing I noticed is that the billing clock seems to start on the day the SIM was ordered, not when ported. It looks like I'll lose about five days. Given the deal otherwise, I can live with that.

      • Oh so it counts when it's ordered not when it was activated? Interesting.

    • Also my Invoice states $20, not $1

  • If i'm reading the promo terms right. That we've got up to 31 March 2023 in order to activate the SIM. Is that true?.

I'm not activating until a get a new smartphone in a few weeks.

    • Want to know this too. Just received my sim. When must we activate it? Is there a deadline? I was wondering if i could activate it in a months time.

      • +1

It doesnt matter. Your 3 month trial starts from the day you ordered
