Such a meaningless comment. This post is not for you.

        • +8

A bike that costs less than $700 is perfectly adequate!

You can ride down to the shops and load your front basket with a bottle of milk and a loaf of bread. What else could anyone possibly want from a bike- surely not something like exercise or enjoyment?

            • +15

@[Deactivated]: Yep, would be totally happy to ride that to the shops!

Would not be so happy to fly it to Whistler (though to be fair, wouldn't take a Fox 36 to Whistler either.)

So many holier than thou "it costs too much Shirley nobody in the world should want one" commenters on OzBargain. No wonder the downvote button exists.

                • @[Deactivated]: Thank you.

@[Deactivated]: Oh, you have my thanks anyway. This has been entertaining.

I guess the lesson here is that sometimes rushing to be the first commenter just makes you look like a jealous wannabe smartass :)

(FWIW, I also have a couple of bikes worth less than that fork- they have their place, but don't usually feel the need to boast about it)

@rumblytangara: Actually, I commented about 20 minutes after the post was made. Not exactly a rush. You could have done the timestamp math before making a fool of yourself. The take away lesson here is be nice to people rather than an arrogant online bully.

@ihfree: Unchristian would be your leftist non binary predilections. You've drifted far from God.

@rumblytangara: Saw I bloke the other day pull up in a Maserati while I was leaving Coles. What an idiot. My Hyundai excel is perfectly adequate for picking up milk and bread!

@Buyingcrap: I have two thongs, fashioned from an old tyre, which are more than adequate for picking up milk and bread. Anything more is just stoking your ego.

@[Deactivated]: While it's a good bike for recreational use… Those of us who rack up thousands of km and hours on the bike just long for something better.

The more time you spend riding into the wind, the more you crave aero, the more time up a hill, the more you crave lightweight frame…the more you stop start at lights, you want some lightweight wheels to get over the initial inertia…

We're all for more people riding bikes, if everyone cycled the world would be a better place… Just, please understand why we need nice bikes.

Same can be said about anyone driving anything that isn't a Mazda 323 or ford laser from the early 2000s.

                @Assburg: TL:DR
I merely stated that the price of these forks was more than my bike. Nothing more. It wasn't a comment on the extravagance of some. It appears there are some very insecure cyclists on this site.

@ihfree: Mate, stop stalking me or I'll make a formal complaint to NSW Police. Last warning. And here's some advice, the Tweed Area Command Precinct doesn't take online stalking lightly.

                        • @[Deactivated]: Haha. Go for your life. IIRC, someone mentioned you being a Karen before.

In your own words - this is "an open forum."

@ihfree: Stay away from me, mate. The best advice I can give you. There's a world of pain ahead for you if you keep it up.

                            • @[Deactivated]: Right, right, right. Sounds like I'll be making a formal complaint to NSW Police.

Happy to ruin your world with a formal statement that leads to an investigation. How do you think you'll fair will the transcripts I have?

                        • @[Deactivated]: Oh for Fox sake. You don't need the cops, you need the ambos for a severe case of butt hurt.

                • +1

@[Deactivated]: Perhaps you'll learn that there is a lot of nuance in language and, without any qualifying remarks, "my bike costs less" is… Just a complaint, whether you intended it to be or not.

There is no insecurity at all my friend, my road bike is Frankensteined from all sorts of wrecked bikes and also cost less than these forks.

@rumblytangara: There's no reason you can't get exercise and enjoyment out of a cheap bike.

            • +2

@moist: I've got a couple of great cheap bikes. I love the things. One is three decades old, I've ridden everywhere on that thing.

I just don't snarkily suggest that there's something wrong with expensive bikes (or in this case, bike parts). Like write whatevers seems to be implying.

              • @rumblytangara: Well, you did say "Yep, would be totally happy to ride that to the shops!".

                • +2

@bargaino: Well, tbh it's pretty similar to the bike I've done most by grocery shopping with- simple hardtail. Only mines got a rack and panniers to carry more stuff from the supermarket.

Edit: woah. Caught up to some of the 'ima gonna soo yoo into jailz' posts. Talk about loose screws. This has been a highly amusing thread. Who'd have thought that some mountain bike forks would have been so contentious. How dare Fox make such expensive suspension :D

    • I get that @WriteRight…. has some decisive views but that was my reaction also. I think the response to the comment is overdone and misses the opportunity to educate the beginner mountain biking community as to why these are worth the asking price.

I don't doubt that the forks are good, but on the face of it, to me it seems like Fox have found themselves a very enthusiastic market and are catering their prices to it (along with their competition)!

I'm happy to be shown just how wrong I am with some science (rigorous, independent stats) about the performance improvement that these forks give. The value proposition is then up to the individual to evaluate.

I'm not suggesting that inflated pricing for premium components is peculiar to mountain biking.

      • This is an interesting one. On premium goods, there is a mix of jokes, memes, shock, trolling, and simply not understanding the price of certain goods.

In an ideal world, an education component to these responses would be great, but often an explanation will be met with negs and on occasion personal attacks. There is also the disagreement over what exactly constitutes a bargain - discount off the retail price, best value, etc.

        • Thanks for the response. 👍

    • Quite possibly did cost less, the Dominos pizza also cost less than a piece of eye fillet steak ….
These forks are all alloy, unlike most that have steel stanchions these are alloy so don't rust if you live near the beach or just wash your bike and let to sun dry, etc, and impact the seals …. if you don't know what stanchions are

      https://blisterreview.com/recommended/suspension-202-anatomy….

this is a good price for forks with allow stanchions if you need them … or just want them for weight savings ……..

  • Thinking about buying a giant talon 1, any other recommendations? ~$850.

Wouldn't be able to use this fork 😭

    • +2

crc and wiggle sell a ragley big al. It's probably the best bang for buck mtb. bikes online is probably worth a look. quality gears start with deore and forks the marzocchi bomber z2. the code works on the big al

    • I was going to recommend a polygon of some kind from bikesonline but if the Talon 1 you're looking at is the 2022 model (with 1x drivetrain and air-spring fork) that seems like a pretty good deal for $850, since looks like RRP is $1200.

Stretching to $1300 for a dual suspension bike like this would give you something more capable on rough terrain, but compromises by switching to a 2x drivetrain: https://www.bikesonline.com.au/2023-polygon-siskiu-d5-dual-s…

      • Yeah its the 1x and air fork, I've never mtb'd so want to begin with a hard tail. Amazing that the entry price is really high for a half decent 'beginner' bike when e.g. compared to bmx

    • You probably won’t do better new than a talon 1 for $850. Where can you get it for that price?

      • +1
        • +1

Thank you, that’s a very good price. Hard to get a 1x drivetrain and air fork under $1000, especially from a big brand

          • +1

@bobkin: Nw, that price point is excellent for the Talon 1, but a lot of the tech has moved on though I have no reference/experience so I think I can live without a tapered fork, no drop post, and thru-axle!

The price small increments+tech is like forcing me to the Talon1.

The next jump would be to something like the Orbea Alma H50 ($1499 at bicyclesuperstore) but thats too much of a leap for me given I was ok with the Talon 4.

No stock of bikes kinda makes the decision easy. Something slightly cheaper but hard to sit on would've been the Vitus Nucleus 29 VR at $949

        • Just tried to purchase this bike, but does not ship to Qld for some reason…

  • +1

There's a lot more forks for sale too that look pretty well priced.

  • Good price

  • +3

FYI this has the FIT4 damper which is inferior to their Grip2 damper, which is also on sale at a great price.

    • +1

I didn’t spot that…very tempted to start a new build

      • most riders are set and forget. grip2 has more configurablitiy and if you're the kind of rider that will adjust your setting for the trail and conditions on the day, then grip 2. If you're set and forget fit4.

    • I have a big feeling this is a typical chainreaction mistake. Don't think there is a 140 in the 36 with grip 2

  • Reverse mullet.

  • Nothing wrong with running 27.5!

  • Young fella broke the crown on his 27.5" rockshox so basically cant ride it. Dare say didnt land a jump properly. Anyone on the locjkout for a 27.5 shock but it ios quick release, they seem hard to find as old technologyu. Anyone know where to go to get a 27.5 QR pretty sure tapered, not straight.

    • +1

Aliexpress has tonnes of variations of manitou. Might be hard to find a tapered and qr axle though, but you'll be able to find a straight steerer one and that should be fit in the frame with a new headset.

      • Thanks @Calvin27, never used aliexpress, will go and have a looksee

  • If this was a 29er version I'd be all over it …….

  • Responding to this comment

    My bike cost more

.. seriously, most people I expect dgaf

Good price op now need a worthy bike for an upgrade

  • Seems a good deal for an upgrade especially if you're old forks are in need of a service which can cost close to $400.
