  • http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/7280 - Maxtor 1Tb External drive $135.68 instore @ Dicksmith

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/7535 - FreeAgent 1TB External 3.5" - $135.00

Doesnt seem like that great a deal, will be cheaper 1tb's soon enough i imagine even if the above ones are sold out, i would hold off on buying one if u can,

    • Don't bet on it, Maxtor drives don't have the best reputation in the industry, the FreeAgent was EOL'ed and Harris simply want to clear them out. That's why they are so cheap. My friend snatched 3 FreeAgents @$135 simply for the HDD inside, and they are 32mb cache drives that are beeing sold ~ $190 bare.

WD MyBook as I own one is a fantastic drive simply easy to use and most importantly runs cool and silently. I have posted this $175 deal back in Nov 1. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/7476

This drive will probably be reverted to $199 or even $249 (check the price hike in HT, sister to OW) once OW is finished with the price match against TheGoodGuys which ends tomorrow, so grab them while you can!!

      • yeah, i still gave it the ol' positive vote, its def a good deal, i'm loving my seagate tho :)

  • Website says it's 7200rpm, so that would probably make it caviar blue (aaks), but I suspect that it could be a mistake and that it's actually the slower 5400rpm green drive (aacs), though WD is the only drive I trust

  • There are two different versions that at least I have come across. EACS and EAVS.
EACS is 7200rpm with 16MB buffer drive which should be good value since internal 3.5" drives sell around $175 mark anyway.
Friend of mine opened the box easily and is using the drive in his desktop.
Mine says EAVS but could not find much info about it (except that the buffer is 8MB instead of 16MB) and it doesnt appear on wd's website, but still I'm quite happy with it.

  • is there any reason why the external drives are going for cheaper these days

  • good deal, last month i thought 199 was a good deal (was previously 249)

  • It seems on the Officeworks website, it has been reverted backed to $199 already.

  • Go to Harvey Norman and get them to price match it!
