ISP Notes

a. Make sure to collect the coupon by ticking the "Apply coupon" box before checkout. Alternatively, you can add the product to cart and tick the "Apply coupon" box there. If you DO NOT see the coupon box, the coupon allocation has been fully redeemed. There is no actual code to enter at checkout – you must collect the coupon before checkout.

b. Coupon is SINGLE use. One per account only

c. DO NOT UNSELECT PROMOTIONAL CREDIT AT CHECKOUT. Make sure you leave the "Use your $xx Promotional credit" box ticked at checkout. Amazon considers all Coupon discounts and Prime Exclusive deal discounts as "promotional credit". Therefore, unselecting promotional credit as part of your payment method will cause Amazon to remove any Coupon or Prime Exclusive discounts and thus charge you full price. If the you have Amazon-issued promotional credit in your account and the item you are buying is:

  • (1) Sold and shipped by Amazon, then Amazon will first subtract any relevant coupon or Prime Exclusive discounts, then charge the remaining balance with your Amazon promotional credit. You must pay with the promotional credit you have in your account, otherwise unselecting this will reverse any applied discounts as per above. Here's an example screenshot, where you see the coupon discount is applied (i.e. Your Coupon Saving), as well as the Subscribe & Save discount, and the remaining balance payment is taken out of your Amazon-issued promotional credit (i.e. Courtesy Credit) to complete the order (in this case the Order Total comes up as $0.00 - unless this deal post says free otherwise, it doesn't mean your order is free as you are still using promo credit, something treated as cash). If you do not have enough Amazon-issued promotional credit, then the Order Total will be the remaining balance that you must pay with a Gift Card or Debit/Credit Card.

  • (2) Sold by a Third Party Seller on Amazon, then Amazon will first subtract any relevant coupon or Prime Exclusive discounts (i.e. Promotion(s) Applied under Order Summary // or check below and see Your Coupon Saving), then you must pay the remaining balance with a Gift Card or Debit/Credit Card. Here's an example screenshot where despite me having Amazon-issued promotional credit, Amazon is unable to apply that to the order because Amazon is unable to apply Amazon-issued promotional credit to orders sold by a Third Party Seller. This means that even if you kept the "Use your $xx Promotional credit" box ticked at checkout, the sole purpose is to obtain the discount while your Amazon-issued promotional credit will remain the same as Amazon will not be using this credit to pay for the order.

Coupon expires soon unless exhausted or sold out earlier

Here comes the neggers because they missed out 😃

      • This was pretty much sold out look at the timings of the deal, my reason is above to me looked like marketing for their other cables, nothing against op
Looks as if they put low quarantity for lower tiers to advertise and sell their higher more experience ones

        • I understand your point and why you feel that way. Definitely was over 10 in stock at time of posting. Do know your comment was made around 20 mins after the post was made. If you look at my previous posts they sell out relatively quick, whether the item have 10 in stock or 100 in stock. Thanks for removing your neg.

What use cases are people buying and using Cat 8 cable for?

(I would have thought anyone with home network speeds requiring anything above Cat 6 would be on fibre.)

Edit: Oh, FFS. This is exactly the kind of Amazon store that you should not buy high-manufacturing-tolerance data cabling for. It's obviously just some random Chinese storefront, and every other product they sell is inflatable furniture, hair products or kids' backpacks.

    • +1

Agree. The stores that sell everything are always touch and go.

    • +3

There are none. Not even high power poe or hdbt 3.0 runs.

Cat6a shielded (even semi shielded f/utp) can do 10gb. But multimode fibre transceivers and cable can be cheaper for the speed.

And unless youve got a hell of a storage server, and are using it for far more than watching blu ray films, you'll never come close to saturating it. Fttp caps out a gig. So whats the point.

      • +2

Yeah, once I realised what sort of store is selling this random garbage, I also realised that anyone buying it is not using it because they need Cat 8 (or even know what Cat 8 is used for).

This is purely the 'biggah numbah bettah' fallacy at work.

This comment ^^ needs to be in BOLD and UNDERLINED!

How in the world this "deal" even has 20 votes is beyond me.

    • I could see a future use case for CAT8 with a revision of HDBaseT to enable some HDMI 2.1 resolutions such as 4K/120Hz or 8K/60Hz, even if it’s at 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 or uses DSC.

Other than that, fibre seems more logical and better long term for data.

      • Serious question- can you unpack that a bit for me? Is this because of costs for 10/40Mbps gear for copper versus fibre, or some other reason?

I am fairly oblivious to high speed networking. The costs of the gear for home use are just so high that I ignore them. And also I don't have or need storage that can make use of it. Hell, I'm too cheap to even bother with 2.5Mbps.

        • +1

HDBaseT is a standard for transmitting HDMI video, audio, data and USB using ethernet cables and signal converters on both ends. The reason you'd want to do this would be for doing long runs to a projector or a TV that's far away from the source device - a distance far enough where running normal HDMI and USB becomes impractical. I use it at home so I can use my gaming PC on my 65" OLED in the lounge room while keeping it at my desk which is far away on the other side of the house. Unlike in-home game streaming solutions (Steam Link, Moonlight, Parsec etc.) there's no additional perceptible latency and it's just like using my PC at my desk, so it's great for FPS and I can do 4K 60Hz or 1080p 120Hz. If I were doing a new home build and could plan out things better, I'd instead run optical/fibre HDMI cables along with a few USB extenders (these tend to use ethernet) since it's a little less fiddly and doesn't require converter boxes on each end, but I already had ethernet in my house so it was cheaper to do it this way.

The current HDBaseT standard (3.0) is limited to HDMI 2.0 equivalent resolutions and refresh rates due to bandwidth limitations.

          • @skittlebrau: Ah, thanks for that. That's so far out of my usage patterns (carrying high def video over distance) that I have not even heard of the standard.

  • I just took the last 5m cable + freebie for $5.92

    That’s just mean
