Been wanting a good screen protector for my Pixel 7 pro. Whitestone apparently is the best with lots of recommendations.

$74 for a screen protector? Not every sale is a good one OP…

  • +5

I can understand why some don't like these as the install process needs time, patience and extra care BUT when done properly they are excellent! Amazing finish.

    • -1

Do you find it high level of scratch resistance?

      • So far so good. Cant notice any scratches on my one currently.

There is a lot of hate around this product as the install process is a pain in the ass, plus its high price and lots of waste BUT It is better than any screen protector I have ever used.

    • +1

All you need is sticky tape for the same result. Literally place the screen protect as is on the screen. Adjust it, sticky tap the screen protector onto the phone (like a door hinge). Clean off the phone and then peel off the protector and use the hinge to place it onto the phone with perfect alignment.

  • +1

Im pretty sure these things only exist to make the process look super cool and scary to people who get screen protectors applied at phone case shops so they dont get something that just sticks on its own for way less cost and hassle

    • -2

I think the cost to install at the shop is similar or more expensive than just one of these? correct if I'm wrong

      • There's nothing particularly special about the person at the shop.

You don't need a qualification or any training… So you might as well install it yourself.

  • +1

No need for these. The P7P has Gorilla Glass Victus

    • +2

+1. I bought one of these screen protectors when i got my S21 Ultra (also gorilla glass victus) to ensure i did everything i could to protect it and after seeing so many cracked screens on phones over the years. The edges eventually lift slightly with use which becomes annoying and ugly. I switched to a generic protector, have dropped the phone more times than i would like to admit with no issues. Sure the protector can get a bit shabby over time but with the price compared to the Dome ones i can replace often if i wish.

IMO a cover is more important. One that can with stand shock on the corners from drops and is slightly raised to protect from screen down drops. I believe mine is probably what has stopped the screen from breaking from drops.

      • Raised edge case is good, until you drop the phone on an uneven surface like gravel, at which point it doesn't offer much protection.

        • +3

until you drop the phone on an uneven surface like gravel

I literally did that the other month - riding my gravel bike along the Great Victorian Rail Trail at around 20-25kph: I didn't see a pothole that was disguised by the gravel surface. As I bounced through the pothole, my phone flew out of my top tube bag. The phone (LG V30+) flipped and skidded along the gravel surface for about 3-5 metres… Thought my phone was done for…

Phone case has a few scuff marks and the screen protector had a few cracks from where the gravel had impacted the screen, but otherwise everything was fine! Bloody miracle!

          • @brotherfranciz: Very lucky that all you had was few scuffs on the phone case from that.

I dropped my phone (no screen protector but a leather case, with a raised edge) in a gravel car park and it, of course, landed face down on a piece of gravel and cracked the upper edge of the screen.

I feel like every generation of phones you have people saying screen protectors are unnecessary because of Gorilla Glass version X.

      • +1

Too true. I got the P7P and thought I'd tried my luck with a good case and no protector. Screen got scratched within a week. Gorilla Glass makes the screen more shatter resistance, but that doesn't mean it's scratch resistance.

      • -1

Gorilla Glass Victus is more scratch resistant than previous gen GG https://www.wired.com/story/gorilla-glass-victus/

        • Yeah nah, my S21U was just easily scratched from being in the pocket.

    • That's what we thought, until my Mrs Pixel 7 pro had a decent scratch on it.

      • -2

Perhaps I should have specified scratch resistance along gender lines. Women are far tougher/clumsier with their phones. I used my previous phone (Galaxy S10+ with Gorilla Glass 6) with a case but without a screen protector for three years without visibly scratching it. My phone generally lives in my back pocket or on a table.

    • Tell that to the smashed display on my P7P after I dropped it 20cm onto my wooden desk.

  • Here is the official installation process

What a friggin joke. I hope users drive a Tesla to offset the environmental waste.

    • Holy plastic land fill Batman… all the packaging and plastic waste for a screen protector?

  • As expensive as the phone itself…

  • +1

The $10 equivalent from eBay h9 tempered does the same job. Make sure that none of the liquid is wasted when bonding else the screen will start to detach after being dropped. I know from experience. Waste of money on these.

    • Have you got a link to the $10 one on eBay? Can't seem to find something decent for the P7Pro, and the ones that I've found turn out to be a bendy plastic type of screen protector even though they say it's 9H tempered glass.

    • Does it have the crappy thumb scanner cutout hole? All the cheap ones have that, or a thin area around that, and it kills it since it's such a weak point.

  • -2

This is completely useless. It is almost as if these modern-day phones don't have screens that do this already. A cheap tpu is more than enough to prevent micro-scratches. Beyond that, this is snake oil.

  • +2

Good when you have it installed.
Nightmare when you need to take it off

    • Surprise no one else mentioned this. There are examples of cracking the screen while taking off UV-glued protectors.

Besides, dealing with liquid UV glue without some experiences equals to a total mess, and the protector is not salvageable when the edges starting to peel off, and looks ugly when that happens.

Yeah there's not much elite choices out there for curved glass protectors but I still think UV-glued protectors are a bit of an extreme measure when it comes to consumer products.

  • I used about 4 of these with curved screens , pain in the butt to apply. My last kit the uv light didn't work so had to use my one that does fingernails. With a curved screen and the thick whitestone I couldn't use fingerprint biometrics. And the edges were lifting with trying to squash it in a case.
I now use the tpu film and happy with that.

Absolutely nothing separates these from the $2-3 specials you get on aliexpress. They are the Monster cables of screen protectors.

Sorry you got ripped off dude, do your research next time!

  • -2

Is it made out out diamonds? I've always used the $10 ones from ebay and they work fantastic. I've dropped and cracked my screen protector a few times (my fault because I dropped it on uneven concrete). Always saved my screen and usually the $10 ones come in a 3 pack, so its an easy install for the new protector. This is not even a deal. A rip off. No big deal to switch out the protector because each protector is $3.33. If I break this protector, thats a $70 loss… So now I have to protect my screen protector so I don't lose $70

  • -1

    Ripoff and not required.

  • +1
    • +1

That's still a rip off too. You can get 2 for $7 off ebay

      • not curved, tempered, UV glass

  • -2

I've used these on numerous phones over the years since the Galaxy S9 and they are worth it. They are unnoticeably toucher and far more scratch resistant than cheapies. All my phones start with a $2 one until the Whitestones are out and look worse in a few weeks of use than the Whitestones do when I upgrade my phone a year or two later - always have my phone and keys in the same pocket and after years they still look brand new.

Unless you have used them, you should not be able to comment on their quality or compare them but that would go against human nature and especially OzBargain comments so…

  • +1

    No thanks

  • +3

uv glass is really good for curved display and in-screen fingerprint readers. Really worth the price honestly

  • +2

    Complete rort,

The only thing special about this is the installation frame. Go on Amazon and buy offerings there at half the price when on special. I've used the AMfilm version of this on the 7 pro and its regularly priced between 30-40, exact same thing.

  • +2

From all the comments above shi**ing on these, clearly none of you have tried it or have the Pixel 7 Pro.

Okay deal for two, although their RRP have gone up.

Two benefits for the dome glass:
    1. The only full screen(without the ugly circle) glass cover that works with the fingerprint sensor.
    2. Compared with “$2-3” eBay versions, the gel used on these actually stays on and won’t damage the top coating of the phone screen in the long term.

    • +1

      100% true dude.
Honestly, people on here just don't know much about it.
Each to their own I guess. I am happy with it and I am sharing it with people that want the best with a good discount.

    • I don't get people who dismiss a product without having ever tried it, that's just a useless opinion and doesn't add anything to the conversation.

My Dome glass lasted 4 years without damage, when I would churn through the cheap ones every month or so.

    • I have a Pixel 7 Pro and I don’t use a screen protector on it at all… 6 months on and it is still as unmarked as the day I got it.

Wife has a Pixel 6 and it has a $5 screen protector on it. When that gets marked, we while it off and put another $5 one on it.

These UV glue type are a total rip off and quite often damage the screen if it does suffer damage and need to be removed.

    • On point 1 - it's not the only one that works with the fingerprint sensor, this one does as well.

  • +1

Definitely required for curved screens, luckily the iPhone has stayed flat so I can use regular protectors

    • Fortunately iPhone did not follow this trend and I hope they won't. Really curve screen serves no purpose except looking cool.

  • I have one on my s9+. I purchased a s9+ for my wife at the time as well so when we went to the local phone store they put on a cheapie and when I compared it to the other phone that had nothing still, I noticed how much a cheap screen protector can make one of the best screens at the time look washed out. Got one on eBay. Same deal. This screen protector I thought had the least screen quality drop. Also dropped it on a pebble concrete driveway and it saved my real screen. Was annoying to replace. They are still very expensive.

  • I've been using Whitestone Dome Glass for my Samsung Phones for years now, due to their curved screen. It expensive but well worth compared to those 'edge' sticking screen protectors.

I usually get them fitted at a phone shop, cause I know I'll screw it up if I install it myself.

  • +1

I think Ill stick to my Spigen ones for a fraction of the price and easy install
