Im eyeing for this one, the only hiccup is there is no card slot for expansion

    • +2

It comes with 32GB which is plenty.

    • +2

Doesn't bother iPhone users. I'm sure you'll be able to work around it.

  • So sad, just got same plan with arc s

  • great deal! Probably because there's rumours of an updated model….

    • +1

yup this is still a great deal it's 1.5 dual core and 12mp camera

      • and 1Gb RAM
But overall it was a better deal last month with the 2Gb of extra data.
I was pushing my wife to get this, but she didn't like the sharp edges

  • Phone is good, but find it a bit narrow as screen is 16x9. I prefer galaxy s2 shape more as screen is 16x10 ratio and feels wider in potrait. Also the lcd is really superb to watch hd videos on youtube but has a problem, if you slightly put it on an angle then it look's washed out.

  • I am currently on 'Easy Cap 19' plan from Virgin Mobile which I got in Jan-2011 (its 24months contract).
Got 'Samsung Wave ($0 handset repayment) – Plan credit $50
Is it possible to get 2nd handset when I am still under contract for the 1st one? Hows does that work out with Virgin Mobile? VirginMobile Rep (@ TopRyde) told me I can still get the new one.

    • call the virgin loyalty team check if you can waive the payout price, when I called them they are offering a 6 month half the price for this unit

      • +1

6 month half the price? isn't it = 3 Months Free Access Fee?

  • BTW….what is best outright price of this Sony Xperia S?

Crazy John's has been doing it for $25 per month for a while. Although the cap credit included is not as much as Virgin. It has $200 value for talk and text, but comes with 400MB of data allowance.

    http://www.crazyjohns.com.au/sony-xperia-s-black/view-handse…

    • With Crazyjohns you have pay $4 a month for the phone which works out $29/month but getting $200 of calls. Virgin is much better deal, with $450 worth of calls per month, plus you are getting first 3 months free = $87.

      • Crazyjohns with $50 giftcard, not as good as monthly fees waived

      • that's right. missed the $4 bit…

  • thinkofus sell it for $399+$20 delivery fee.

    • do you know that Allphones is selling this phone for $395, Australian stock with Australian warranty?

  • Vodafone got it for Free on $29/month plan with 2 Months Free Access Fee (+ 10% off/month with existing plans on family)
    = ($29x0.9)x22
    = $574.2

Virgin got it for Free on $29/month plan with 3 Months Free Access Fee (+ $35 credit with existing plans on family)
    = $29x21-$35
    = $574

    • 20 cents difference… I prefer Vodafone because lots of my friends and family use Vodafone & 3, which are FREE to call all the time

    Vodafone: $180 credit + 200mb data + infinite Vodafone & 3
    Virgin: $450 credit + 250mb data + infinite Virgin

    • Does Virgin have their own network or use someone else's? Vodafail's coverage is bad.

    • Virgin got's 2.5 gb if purchase online

      • no ! 250mb only

      • Link?

      • the 2Gb extra data deal is last month only

    • heads up. the 10% discount ONLY applies if you ADD a NEW contract to your existing account. discount doesn't apply if you want to renew an old contract, even if your contract has expired.

You get $450 worth of calls per month

I don't quite understand. $450 is how much the phone is worth alone. So if you're getting $450 of calls every month for 24 months, that's $10,800 + $450 (phone cost) and all you're paying is $609. Isn't that a net loss of $10,641 per customer? How does Virgin stay in business?

Or are they just inflating the nominal price of phone calls when you're on a cap plan to make it sound like more value than it is?

    • WOw!!! what makes you think that you used $450 worth of call, equals to the cost of mobile provider is going to pay out?

Just imagine this for example, their fixed cost on initial investment $5mil, and running cost for renting optus network, stores expenses/free mobiles/staff wages = $1mil per month.

Then imagine they got 200,000 customers on $29 cap plan (doesn't matter if they use the whole $450 worth of calls or not).
      200,000 x $29 = $5.8mil revenue per month.

      So, go figure.

      • +1

That's my point. So why call it $450 worth of calls when it's an arbitrary number? They could make it so you get $10,000 worth of calls but each second costs a dollar.

They can make that number whatever they want it to be as long as they adjust the rates accordingly.

    • Their call rates are pretty high though.

99c/min (billed per min) + 40c call connection
SMS Virgin to Virgin 28c (per text up to 160 characters)
SMS 45c (per text up to 160 characters)

      • +1

Virgin to Virgin SMS is free
Virgin to Another network is 28c

    • they sell $450 credit for around $19 (I think) and it costs them much less. So for 24 months without a phone it costs a customer $456.

With this phone deal they charge $29 a month it costs one $696. So they are essentially selling the mobile for $240 if you commit to them for 2 years. They aren't really making a loss either way. The $450 credit does not have the same amount of real world value, at best it's only worth $19

  • Up until a couple of days ago this phone was 'free' with 2.25gb of data instead of 3 months free access fee. So depending on your usage, this deal may be better or fair worse. I would personally prefer the extra data > the 3 months free. I was informed that there is a good chance that this will be back.

  • +1

I was thinking about getting this phone as my iPhone 4 just finished contract.

    • +2

I say go for it. It's a great phone you wont be disappointed. You will not be able to get this cheaper anywhere at the moment.

  • Allphones sell it for $395 instore if you can find instore…Most of the Allphones store out of the stock now..Try JBHIFI to price match it…
