remember to always use parcel lockers or similar, it's now pretty much impossible to get any recourse if the parcel is lost.

Edit: downvote away i guess? it won't happen to you, right?

    • +3

It's not impossible, but AliExpress are less loose with the refunds these days unless you have a metric poop-ton of evidence to submit. (This may or may not include filming yourself opening the package, in the case of combined shipping somehow losing items)

      • +30

I had part of my order missing (batteries) and in the claim they asked for proof that it was missing. I took a picture of my empty hand and surprisingly they understood and refunded me.

        • I thought they removed the photo upload for undelivered items?

          • @MeesusEff: Different kind of dispute since some items were missing and not all.

        • Partial claims are fine, but if the whole package doesn't turn up, then not even a police report will help. They insist on some sort of official statement from AusPost, with an official stamp to prove validity. Such a thing doesn't exist.

        • funny. I always take photos before opening it.
If I found something missing, I would use the weight on the label saying the weight doesn't match , bra bra bra, they would accept it when you say enough "bra bra bra", I guess.

and if it's an expensive item, I would take a video when I'm opening it.

          • @sydney rider: for items like $100 +++ i take unboxing video.. cheapos, not bother but maybe should

          • @sydney rider: No need to drag female underwear into this

      • I've had positive experiences recently

No electrical compliance markings on some downlights I bought. Full refund.

Screen on head unit was chipped. Had to get AE involved as the seller was ignoring me. Got a
generous partial refund. Also got a new screen delivered.

Got scammed as well as many others from a seller. Full refund.

    • @xrailgun I may have a lost parcel due today (to house) and ordered on 29 Jan. Tracking says delayed but due today. Do I wait longer?
      P.S. l didn't neg you

      • probably getting close to the buyer protection date, which is usually about twice as long as how long they expect the shipment to actually take. check your tracking, and keep an eye on to open a dispute.

    • +2

@Namidairo - Are you sure it doesn't have anything to do with what type of member you are (Silver, Gold, Platinum or Diamond)?

I was Diamond because of a $400-$500 item I bought on there last year (Now I'm Platinum because it calculates it based on your 12 month history) and I have had a few items not show up, opened claims, Aliexpress steps in and says to wait _____ days (usually 1-3) and if the tracking doesn't update again then they close it in my favour. Haven't had an issue thus far, granted most of those items are under $10, I don't think it has happened with anything above $10 (Whether that matters or not).

I'm assuming Aliexpress see those with lower ranks claiming items that haven't arrived are likely trying to get their items and their money back (Essentially have their cake and eat it too) and that system is there to mitigate the risk to them and their sellers by denying refunds for just anyone that requests it.

      • @Empharand

Perhaps, I tend to get favourable outcomes in the few instances that I open disputes, and I have a decent history. On the other hand, I'm fairly careful with vendor selection, usually.

Anti-fraud tends to be a magic black-box, otherwise people just try to exploit the obvious holes.

      • Not Namidairo, but i've been diamond for years, never had issues reporting the occasional missing item which is why I kept buying from Ali. They seem to have had a policy change a few months back. Now they insist on some sort of official statement from AusPost, with an official stamp to prove validity. Such a thing doesn't exist.

    • +3

They have PayPal as a checkout option don't they?

    • +1

@xrailgun - just added my parcel locker address to Ali. Thanks for the tip :)

  • Awesome. Had just found something I wanted on aliexpress, good timing!

    • Ok I'll take the bait, what did you find?

      • Bought the Akko 3098b from PCCG and now realised I need a good wrist rest to go with it… Can get one from Akko's aliexpress store, because I dont fancy a hard wooden wrist rest.

        • You could also get a nice wrist watch as well as a wrist rest.

          • @WatchNerd: Bought into the apple ecosystem, already got a cheap watch band from the ebay deals.

  • Nice.

Now I just need some decent coupons to stack this with.

    • -1

You'll have to rely on seller coupons. There's no more sitewide coupons this month or next month by the looks.

  • +2

6 items in my cart waiting for a deal. All non-eligable. :(

    • +2

Find the same product offered by different sellers that are Affiliate products?

      • and they will be like 25% more expensive :D

        • +1

Normally that would mean you're trying to buy from a dodgy seller if the price is significantly less :P

          • @Clear: agree i bought something and got something else but fully refund at the end
but could be missing out the cash back haha

  • +3

I would be very careful not to buy too high value goods with what seems extraordinarily cheap prices.
There are still some scam sites on Ali…

    • +4

Always look at their feedback and when the store was created, I have come across a few dodgy looking ones, 99% of the time the store had no feedback and was created only days prior. Especially if their shop is named 'Shop2493949734738' or something similar which tends to be an ongoing name trend on Aliexpress with both dodgy and non-dodgy sellers.

    • Just ignore everything except for the older stores with over mid-90's feedback percentages.

If you're purchasing from brand new stores or from people with feedback in the 80's or lower, you're probably in for a bad time.

  • +6

    Hot diggity, 14c off vibrators!

    • That's the Ozbargain spirit!

    • They show you adverts, of stuff you've (accidentally?) wondered into… :-D

I have been waiting for another one of these Aliexpress cashback deals :)

  • +1

Alright after almost a year without ordering anything from Aliexpress, I had to get a few things recently that were Aliexpress type item's so I put in an order.

So what I have been hinting at and have said before seems to be true. Since covid prices overall are up and there seem to be additional shipping charges added to even the smallest/lightest of items.

For one of the items in my order which was shoelaces I was able to confirm this by looking through my order history. Last time I paid $3AUD per pack of shoelaces, bought 2 packs and shipping was free (as it said on the listing back then "free shipping over $ spend").
In my most recent order, I needed a few more. But this time from the same seller they are $4.XXAUD per pack and additional shipping charges no matter what. Over $6 in shipping for 2 packs of laces and the shipping cost creeps up with every unit you add. Checked "other shipping methods" and it's already the cheapest one. Over a year ago I remember most of the things I bought had a "Free Aliexpress standard shipping" option, but not anymore.

By the time you checkout and it adds Tax to the total you are looking at almost $7 per pack, quite a big difference to the $3 per pack I paid last time.

Also it has this green text now that says "Fast shipping on orders over $X.XX" which I think is misleading. You don't get an upgrade to "Fast shipping" if you meet the minimum spend, "Fast shipping" just becomes an option before checkout. Honestly I would ignore this anyway since in my experience in the past ordering from Ali, paying more for "faster" shipping doesn't mean you get the item sooner. Seller just posts it the same way as they would with the cheapest method and pockets the difference.

Also if you look at the listing without logging in you see this, $0.XX with FREE shipping. I know "new user discount" must reduce the price of one pack from $4.XX to $0.XX but I think the "free shipping" on the listing is misleading.

Even saying all this, I double checked and prices "overall" are still cheaper by a few dollars than buying from eBay AU where sellers ship from china anyway.

    • +1

'Fast delivery on orders over 5USD' is referring to consolidated shipping, where multiple orders are put into the same satchel at a sorting center/warehouse and posted together. It isn't selectable and is generally faster and has tracking.

      • Ok well I think I have been getting that consolidated shipping for every past purchase because as long as I bought from multiple sellers at the same time they would all merge into a single tracking number and arrive in the same box.
In the past that's what I understood was one of the benefits of "Aliexpress standard shipping" which is now gone? So maybe they just replaced Aliexpress standard option and added that green fast shipping text.
Either way I am paying more and they are adding additional shipping costs for all the items I recently purchased.

Edit: I also suspect the "hidden ranking system" has more of an effect than users may realize. I remember I was in the Mech keyboard hobby for a brief while and purchased a lot of keyboard related accessories regularly (much cheaper ordering from Ali than from local keyboard shops where most items would be "preorders"). During this time maybe over 18 months ago, I had a lot of discount codes always apply and would also regularly get additional "hidden seller discounts". For example I ordered 3 custom braided USB cables (it was my 2nd order from that seller) and before I even added the code I got a hefty discount (over 30%) automatically apply at the cart stage.
And the prices weren't inflated either, but I guess I was silently flagged/ranked as a trustworthy and potential good customer or something so they would give me a lot of discounts with the idea that it would lead me to continue buying regularly.
After I slowed down my Aliexpress shopping though, started running into more and more issues with pricing. The obvious one is prices on listings changing depending on if you are logged in and out, but discount codes would seem more limited and when I had codes apply without fail in the past (like 6 orders in a row) now I couldn't get a single code to apply any discount. Also the automatically applied big discounts stopped. Then I just stopped shopping because I stopped needing items you can get for cheap on Aliexpress.

  • Only site that never tracks for me

    • +1

What really? Aliexpress has been the site that always tracks for me.
I even stress tested it once by opening multiple windows, browsing extra long through items and at the end of the entire mess it still fully tracked with Cashrewards.

Are you using chrome browser? I always use chrome for CR. Also on chrome you have to go to settings, privacy security, and make sure Privacy Sandbox (trial feature) is off.

      • +2

I'm a bit paranoid and end up looking for the affiliate key in the cookies before shoving stuff into cart and submitting the order.

Ie. affiliateKey in the cookie xman_us_f gets set to r3zzB… (Which is the CR affiliate key)

        Okay maybe very paranoid.

Also remember that you need to check the items are eligible with the link checker too. I kind of want to write a plugin for that, but effort and I don't think the page request is automation friendly.

        • Thanks !! …. I'll keep a look out for the affiliate key

        • Also remember that you need to check the items are eligible with the link checker too.

Yeah honestly havent purchased from Aliexpress for awhile (almost 10 months I think), but back then they had the item checker. I didn't bother checking the stuff I ordered and all of them tracked with CR.

      • I had some items last November that didn't track with CR, using Chrome on desktop and adblocker and tracking blocker disabled, and items were affiliated. Had to lodge a claim with CR.

        • I also regularly make sure Chrome is updated by going to 3 dots, then "help" then "About chrome"
I don't know if it has anything to do with it.

I honestly have never had a CR that didn't track on Aliexpress.

        • Same here. They processed it but it was a pain compiling all the links and making a claim etc

    20% cashback is about AU$ 75 spend,
to hit the $15 cap on cashback.

    • Math checks out.

      • I just haven't factored in the GST component,
as I get confused about that part of the 'math'.

        • If gst gets added at the checkout, then $75 of items in your cart should be ok

          • @pichxlonco: so it should be just the price of the items total of $75? dont count shipping and gst ?

            • @CyberMurning: Should be, i think most of not all casback teachings for any purchase on this or another site should be the same

              • @pichxlonco: correct:
You may not earn Cashback on GST, freight, delivery fees and taxes.

so better pay for higher priced item but free shipping

@WatchNerd good time to get the addisdive watch for $56?

  • any good and cheap bluetooth keyboards ?? that people recommend ? (preferably foldable, and built in rechargeable battery with USB C charging, if not then otherwise not a big deal).

  • Thanks Clear.

I have this Tuya Zigbee Wireless Multi Mode Hub Gateway on the way. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005234485826.html.
What are some good sensors to buy to use on?

    • Temp/humidity sensor
      Door/window sensor
      Roller blinds motor
      Plant moisture sensor
PIR or mmWave sensor (Aqara FP1 was ~$68 recently)
      Smart button
      Light switch
      Fan controller
      Water leak sensor

Probably lots of other things too. I just placed an order last week for 4x Aqara mini smart buttons ~$55

If you find a good affiliated cheap Zigbee plant sensor, let me know! Want a couple for a few plants the kids keep forgetting to water..

Does store/sitewide coupon void the cashback?

    • +1

      No.

      • @Clear Can use coins too for cashback?

        • +1

          Yep

      • Can confirm. In the past no matter what the discount/code applied, CR would track on Aliexpress everytime.

        • Mine still pending from anniversary sale just put a claim in. Guess due to long delivery times (mind you one turned up today, 9 days all up I think).

          • @G-rig: Weird. My most recent order, it tracked and I received the CR emails for each item within hours. Heaps less cashback than I thought though, because a big chunk of recent order was shipping costs which don't count.

            • @harshbdmmaster718: Yeah doesn't always work have to wait but will confirm order received.

  • Being lazy here…..Has anyone found deals on any POCO phones….

    • Thanks for the CB tip! I never activated as I hadn't planned on anything, but that has now changed with this deal

    • can they both work? Bonus $5 and also 20%?

Coincidentally I was looking at that one and the EXRAM branded ones today. They're actually QLC instead of TLC flash and no DRAM cache. The pSLC cache is tiny at about 50GB, so if you're continuously writing more than 50GB it's going to slow down real bad.

Personally I used big brand for NVMe, like the cheaper PCIe 3.0 Samsung SSDs and have some cheaper 2.5" drives. There's some interesting brands in the 2.5" space like Kodak, Lenovo and Hikvision.

      • How bad would the slowdown be?

        • +1

For that one in particular it seems to be 50Mb/s. Big brand cheap stuff will often go down to 200Mb/s so this is pretty bad unfortunately.

          • @Clear: Yeah it does look bad… thanks. Good thing I asked here before buying.

  • AliExpress website turned to Arabic while I was adding a second item

    • Sometimes store banners will link to others region because they haven't set the URL properly. A bit of a PITA

    • Yeah used to happen to me regularly. Just by browsing it kept turning the entire website language into russian.
