I was also looking at it and wondering. I think the word 'reseller' is what threw me.
no deal, was better here
Nice, can I borrow your time machine to go snag that one
no point, unless deal still exists
This one is Windows Home, not Pro.
it's 2023 now, I wouldn't get a laptop with 8G RAM and not upgradeable.
Agree, better to get at least 16GB for future proofing.
I'd say it depends on intended use. This was never intended to be powerhouse, use typically in line with it's lightweight and portability - Who does heavy vid editing and gaming on a surface laptop?? No other reason 8GB won't be fine over the typical 3yr laptop ownership period IMO.
The 768 tabs and three browsers I have open beg to differ.
Damn straight. 32GB RAM is the minimum I'd be happy with these days.
@Prong: You're looking at the wrong device to start with then…
Pop ChromeOS on this and you have one screamer of a Chromebook.
Wouldnt that be chrome OS?
I own a Surface Pro 8 which uses very similar internal hardware. I've tried to install Deepin (a Debian based Linux distro) only basic touch was supported after 3rd party kernel. Tried Fyde OS, Keyboard/Mouse/Touch all won't work, and I can't get bash to work so can't even install that 3rd party kernel.
I'd say not worth the effort.
Was it the Surface laptop models that were all detachable?
Surface Pro 2 in 1 series. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/765354
So they're different from the laptop? I though there was the Surface Pro with the crappy fabric/plastic keyboard, then the Laptops all had the fancy electromagnetic hinge locks.
They are 2 in 1 series. Can be used as a laptop as well as tablet depending on the requirement. You can attach a detachable keyboard and it becomes full fledge laptop.
That’s the Surface Book, line was discontinued, I think replaced by Surface Studio.
Replying to switchblade above
@revmacca: Yeah it was the Surface Book I was thinking of.
Hard to keep track with 11 different SKUs under the Surface brand, none of which are actually well named!
that were all detachable?
It is a laptop, not detachable like Surface Pro
I want a Surface but the non Intel ones have much better battery life plus I agree 16gb of RAM is needed by many people. Good price though
2nd hand?
