@Justin9mm I got the same card but used for $700. Test showed the card was still good … was just very dirty.

I went that way to see how the pricing of the 40 series cards would pan out (for 4K triples) Still waiting I guess .. haha.

You can’t go back in time so just enjoy it :)

Argh that sucks man. The TUF is a good card though I have it as well; runs cool and is quiet as.

I actually managed to snag one end of last year brand new from Umart for ~$1050. Was building a new 7700X system and managed to get some nice deals from various sales. During the build though I accidentally bent the pins on my motherboard and it took ASUS three months to get it fixed (cost me $110) and back to me. During that time my ram kit went down by $100 and AMD started bundling the new Star Wars game with the CPU.

So moral of the story is you win some you lose some on top of that you got to enjoy your card for a month and a half.

      • That's what I built, a 7700X system! Thanks man :)

        • Nice man, how good is the CPU? Not that it matters but it's nice seeing it boost to 5.5Ghz in game haha.

What ram did you get? Have you done much tweaking?

          • @basketballfreak6: My motherboard is the Asus TUF B650M Plus Wifi and I had major issue with my initial RAM which was the Corsair Vengeance 32GB DDR5 5200Mhz. Would not run stable stock or running Docp/Expo profile without any tweaking. Had made sure Bios firmware was up to date but no dice, kept getting windows failures, it just did not like my RAM. Changed to Corsair Dominator 32GB DDR5 6000Mhz and running with Docp/Expo and it runs fine. Have not had any windows failures since I put it in 2 weeks ago. Otherwise no tweaking, I mainly use for PCVR, not much standard gaming but has run everything I've tried great.

            • @Justin9mm: Yea I got the ASUS B650E-E motherboard and it also won't run my Corsair 6200MHz CL36 XMP, had to under clock it to 6000MHz BUT I've tighten up the timings to 30-36-36-30 from 36-38-38-76 and applied Buildzoid's secondary/tertiary timings to the ram kit (Hynix chip). If your kit uses Hynix (which I believe it would be being the Dominator ram) it's definitely worthwhile doing Buildzoid's timings as I saw a solid 5-10% performance boost with minimum frames which is awesome (eg Cyberpunk 2077 everything maxed out RT Psycho DLSS Quality 1440P I'd see occasional dips into mid-low 40's and after tuned timings I'd rarely see it dip into the high 40's now). Some genuine gains to be had there.

I've also applied -20 all core to the curve optimiser (cbf'ed testing each individual core) and I can get all core boost of 5.15GHz in Cinebench running on air cooling.

              • @basketballfreak6: Yeah, I have no experience or education on manually adjusting RAM timings. My Dominator RAM is Samsung not Hynix unfortunately according to CPU-Z. Which is bullshit considering its higher end RAM. I'm happy to have it running 6000Mhz stable anyway considering the trouble I had with the 5200Mhz which could not even run the default 4800Mhz without crashing.

                • @Justin9mm: Yea fair for the secondary/tertiary timings I literally just copy and pasted Buildzoid's numbers haha otherwise I'm not particularly versed at tweaking ram either. Primary timings were simple enough looking at what other similar kits can achieve then just running stress tests to make sure rams are all stable.

Surprised about the Samsung chip though; from memory when I saw the Dominator kit (I suppose it was the 6200MHz version) it had the staggered primary timings (ie not 40-40-40) which indicates that it's more than likely to be Hynix chips so that's disappointing. I only got the normal Vengeance Pro.

But yea saw benchmarks (go look up HUB's video on it they literally just used Buildzoid's timings as well) and it's crazy how tuned ram with lower frequencies can match or beat poorly tuned ram at higher frequencies. Eye opening for me because I never realised how much it could impact gaming performance.

Man I've waited months to save $50

Drop it $500 and I still wouldn't post it here

  • +8

At this rate these might be reasonably priced by end of year.

That said, rather buy Intel ARC Battlemage cards when they come out next year. Screw Nvidia

    • +2

I hope they do release it, considering all the big shots left the company I am a bit sceptical, but hope for the best.

  • +4

These basically now seem to be following a more regular price decay curve from pre-crypto days.

    • +3

too bad the prices started on a mountain top

  • Delicious

Just bought this on Friday for $1259 from MSY FML.

Overall happy with the purchase, going from a 1070 to a 4070ti is a major leap in quality.

    • +6

Don't stress, it's $60… I paid $1350 for the Gigabyte Eagle OC two weeks ago knowing full well it'll drop soon. Despite the hate, it's the best card I've owned in many generations. I'm thankful for the stupidly large heatsink, as it's crazy quiet compared my previous 3070.

      • +1

ya, considering we are paying kidneys I would be annoyed too if they dont give a beefy heatsink along with it.

  • This dollar per pixel pushed ratio on this is starting to get pretty tasty

For those multi pci-card matx users like me, this appears to be one of not many 2 slot cards! The rest are chonky bois.

    • Use a riser cable if you have an atx case. thats what i have done for the sound card.

      • I have a node 804 with a SAS card, SAS extender, GPU & a USB pcie card. Hardly a spare mm in there!
Just happy there are decent cards 2 slot.

how low can you go how low can you go

I don't care about high end, I will just pick up a 3060 when they go down some more. looks promising!

  • +2

    This 4070Ti or a used EVGA 3080 for 830?

    • +5

      This, All 4070ti's are great.
They all run cool and this is small and efficient and will out do the 3080 in every situation

    • +1

      That's a no brainer, RTX4070TI

  • Not good enough for most.

Many People have lots of money for 4090s

Must game, do not need to pay for rent or food.

    • return to uni diet of entirely subsisting on 2-minute noodles

    • -1

I can do it all so must suck to be you, maybe spend less on alcohol

  • -2

$1200 for a 12GB card ? No Thanks. In some games it already runs out of VRAM and it will keep happening. At this price the minimum should be 16GB.

  • I'm out of loop in the PC build arena. Can this run Microsoft Flight Simulator on 4K 55inch well? Thanks for your help

    • Get 4090.

      • +2

4090 is not needed for flight sim.
        I run a 7900 xt 4k max settings smoothly.

    • +1

It will depend on what fps/refresh rate your hoping to achieve on the tv, also keep in mind you can utilise DLSS to get some boost there if you need it. You definitely don't need a $3k gpu to play the game at 4k🙂

    • Yeah 4070ti would be a beast for msfs
Pair it with ann amd 5800x3d and 32gb ram. For maxed out gameplay locked above 75fps

  • This cooler looks very compact. In a way.

  • Now, $1,179.00 in MSY.

    Almost.

    • Depends on the store - I think in some NSW stores it's slightly cheaper, but the others are all still $1199.

  • Could anyone please tell me if this card is quiet or noisy while playing 2022-2023 AAA games? Thanks.
