Maybe in the future they will design these things not to use more space than they need. Maybe make them taller rather than being fat.

    • This, mind boggling how stupid it is.

Likewise with EOP devices. It shouldn't be that hard…

    • Yes, I can't plug in two of these side by side, which in many cases I need to!

    • I've written to my designer as well requesting I be taller rather than fatter. We shall see if my prayer is answered.

    • I got ones from tuya that are long and narrow. You can fit 2 side by side.

  • This works with apple homekit right? I can't seem to see any mention of it on Amazon website.

Don't recommend these, I bought back in another sale and one died after about 2 weeks of use. Yes, they are bulky.

    • I have x 8 running for the last 18 months and all still good unlike the Kogan ones, 6 out of 12 are dead.
Like anything electronic, there will be a few dud ones so just return it for a replacement if it died after 2 weeks.

    • I have 4 of them running for more than a year now without any issues. But they are bulky! That's my only complaint.

    • I've had two die within 6 months but mine are the Homekit ones, which I assume are pretty much the same.

    Tapo ones are not bulky

    • Tapo works well, I use it with IFTTT for triggers and combine with flic buttons to turn on devices. Just the 5 second delay from IFTTT is annoying but it works. Only thing I don't like with flic integration via IFTTT is the lack of an on/off state toggle.

        Use home assistant :)

        • I am just too lazy to set it up, don't have everything smart in the house so not much point right now. The tapo is only for my aquarium light. Eventually will upgrade to a better lighting system but they are over 300 per light and I will need a few. Can't justify spending that much on a light just yet when there are other bills to pay.

    • Tapo ones look good, and are only $59 for a 4 pack from Bunnings. Shame they are missing the energy monitoring, though.

  • I bought this last time, have to return it as one of the 4 failed to connect.

  • I have bought 2 sets of these. Apart from the ludicrous dimensions, they are working perfectly with Home Assistant. No cloud connection required either.

    • How's this "No cloud connection required" work?

One adds the HomeAssistant Add-on and one can the see/control via there. Obviously you do need to be using HomeAssistant. Basically allows one to control without the App. One can see all the available sensors that are on the plug e.g. On/Off, Current, Energy, Voltage, Signal Strength, etc. One can then also set automations to do things based on any of those readings.
Example Pic of one of my plugs and what shows on HA

        • I see, so still init via the app, but after that it can be cut off from the net.
Is Meross a company or an ecosystem? I've not heard of it before.

          • @furyou: Yes it does need app to initially register the device
Meross is a company who make IoT devices.

  • Dammit. Bought these on Amazon 2 weeks ago for $69.99

    Great deal, thanks OP!

  • These things are good. They work native in the Apple Home app with no 3rd party apps.

I have two for powering on/off mosquito zappers on the porch :-)
