One for the wife. The OzBargain in her will love the $5 off.

Just be warned, i had the fold 3 for a good 18 months, although the camera quality is OKAY, it's mostly for the fold screen. I had the software glitch and freeze a couple times that could only be fixed by a soft restart, i ended up using the front screen about 98% of time

    • Hows the battery life

      • Sub par, especially considering the size of the phone. Wouldn't last a full day for me.

      • +2

Im still using mine since launch, battery life is decent, definitely has degraded over time. Wont last that long if you exclusively use the larger screen but damn. I dont think i can go back to a smaller screen for media and game consumption

        • At risk of Murphy and his stupid law, I'm the same, I love it and wouldn't go back to a single small screen. Battery life is average, but that's why we have all the fast charger deals.

I forgot to charge my phone a few nights ago and I managed to get almost 2 days out of it.

And unlike the poster above, I use the inner screen about 98% of the time - can't even fathom how anyone would use the outer screen.

      • Battery life is heavily depends on how many apps installed, how many apps working in the back ground and how long the screen time is. My wife's fold 3 can easily last a day, when she barely uses her phone while working, and only watch YouTube and Facebook at home, and put all non essential apps to deep sleep.
You can install accu battery to monitor apps power consumption.

It’s a very attractive entry point if you were going to take a look at foldable phones.

I’ve had the original Z Flip 5G and a Fold 3, and the Fold 3 is significantly improved to a point where its usable by your average person. No finger indents on the inner screen from normal use after 16 months of use, I’ve had the phone drenched in rain in heavy thunderstorms & routinely taken into steamy baths (don’t recommend either), plus dropped several times onto asphalt (in a slim case) and it still works fine

The inner screen is a game changer and I end up using it around 95% of the time, I basically never use the outer screen as the sort of stuff you would check on it like notifications is perfectly accessible from your Galaxy Watch. Battery life is about average and not remarkable for the weight of the phone as you’d expect given the main feature is that it folds, I get by as I plug my phone into my car for AndroidAuto when I commute to and from work which tops it up.

The main (wide) and ultra wide cameras are okay but the 2x telephoto produces photos that are noticeably worse quality and a different colour, to the point where sometimes I would just take photos with the main camera then crop it.

My inner screen protector peeled away from the hinge around 12 months in and I have been using it naked ever since. You can also get more durable tempered glass screen protectors for the outer screen, but they are expensive locally (compared to the US) and may come with case compatibility issues.

Also as other commenters have mentioned, generally its very expensive and difficult to service this phone so even if you don’t damage any of the displays, just needing a battery replacement in a few years time could write off the phone. Barely any Samsung stores in my experience service this phone (or even put on a replacement screen protector, usually they will send it away to a service centre) and compared to Apple, the experience is much much worse.

  • My friend has it and time to time has to replace screen protector which comes off otherwise screen guarantee will be voided! Just to mention Samsung does it for free.

  • Farout this is tempting to upgrade from a Note 10+ really not a fan of the fold line though!

It's a solid deal. Unfortunately, I have to downvote it due to serious issues with the product.

I've owned two separate Z Fold 3s and both had hardware failures, resulting in Samsung Australia offering a full refund for both products. That may sound good, but the amount of calls, emails, and written correspondence that was involved in dealing with a device that should not be this brittle in its third release is unacceptably bad.

My first Z Fold 3 worked okay for 6 months, and then the screen protector started to crack. This is a common defect with the screen protectors on these phones, as Samsung is seemingly able to create a screen that can fold, but cannot manufacture a screen protector that does not. It didn't really bother me, but before I could get to Samsung to get it replaced, the entire inside display became unresponsive. When I first attended Samsung at Garden City, they said they could not accept the device for warranty without me making an appointment first. I was standing there, with my phone in my hand, with a Samsung team member talking to me, and they just literally would not accept it for repair. I had to drive home, and drive back the next day, wasting hours.

A week later, I still had no phone. So I called TecWorks (the people who repair the phone in Queensland, at least) and they said they didn't have the part and didn't know when they were going to get it. With no ETA, I contacted Samsung Voice of Customer to request a refund for the device. After about three weeks, Samsung VOC relented and refunded me. Thinking I just had a lemon, I repurchased the Z Fold 3 from a shopfront.

Again, it worked for about 6 months. Then the screen protector started to break again. Thinking about how the last time this happened, the screen broke shortly after, I decided to get ahead of it and get the screen protector replaced before it caused other issues. I took the phone to Samsung Chermside, who could replace it in store. I thought that was pretty great, until I drove back to Samsung Chermside the next day (a 50 minute one-way trip with tolls) to be given a phone with a bubble on the screen protector. I was told that "someone lent on the box", and becuase of that, the protectors were damaged. They applied the protector, saw it was damaged, and did not call me so I didn't have to drive almost an hour to pick it up. That was just appalling, bottom of the barrel, customer service. After this, they shipped the device to TecWorks, who replaced the protector (another week without the phone) and then I got it back. Then, just thre weeks later, the phone developed another fault where the speakers would not work when the phone was folded totally open. They only worked when the phone was open on a 90" angle. One degree past, the speakers cut out. It's a common issue on the Z Fold 3 apparently.

Took it back to Samsung Chermside, gave it back to them, contacted Samsung VOC for a refund. After several weeks, they relented and refunded me again.

All in all, I wasted about six weeks over two phones.

If you buy this phone, you might be fine. Or you might have issues. If you have issues, Samsung support is NOTORIOUSLY bad. You will waste weeks fighting them and they take days to get back to you.

Topping this all off, if you live in the Brisbane area, you may have seen Samsung kiosks in shopping centers. Surprise, they're not owned by Samsung. They're owned by a company called Retail Prodigy. This really twists the knife on any problem you experience, as you can't turn up to one of these stores and ask for a refund under the ACL guarantees, because they're not actually Samsung stores. At least, that's what the manager at the Samsung Chermside store told me. Because they're not actually Samsung staff that are helping you, they are powerless to do anything apart from factory resetting the device, sending it for repair, or convincing you that you're using it wrong. Because all the kiosks can do is waste your time, you are actually better off emailing Samsung VOC and then taking it to a kiosk, and then sending the ID to Samsung VOC and asking for remediation. Anything else just soaks up weeks of your life.

Folding phones are definitely the future, and Samsung needs to focus more on making them more resilient first and foremost. Lastly, the cameras are trash. I went from the Fold 3 to a Pixel 7 Pro, and I didn't realize just how bad the cameras are on the Z Fold. You can have a tablet on you at any time, but the cost of your time in fighting with Samsung over the brittle device, and the really bad cameras makes it simply not worth it. Considering how brittle the phone is, you would have to be absolutely out of your mind to buy a refurbished edition of this thing, sheesh.

tl;dr Brittle phone, potato camera, useless support, do not buy.

    • The screen protector issue happens to all phones over time. If it happens after a year, it's not covered by Samsung, and it costs $66 to replace.

      • Not true - screen protectors on phones degrade over time because of what a user does to it (puts it in their pocket with keys, drops it, etc). The protector on this phone degrades - in six months - through normal use (open and closing). It's simply lazy workmanship on Samsungs' part, that they can make a display that can fold, but not a screen protector. I don't accept that I should have to shell out an extra $30 or whatever to replace the protector myself when their poor engineering lets go.

It's also astonishing that they hold their hand out for $66 for a component of their phone that is defective, which should last the life of a normal phone (about two years or so?). I think if enough people complained, the ACCC would make them cover the protectors in the standard warranty, or "reasonable" time.

        • Sorry, I meant it happens on all folds due to open/closing.

    • Had same issue when was refunding my galaxy s10! Took me 3 months to refund and ACCC forced Samsung to do it!

    • I'm just about to begin this warranty/refund process with Samsung.
Z Fold 3 just randomly cracked when opening the centre screen.

Is the VOC contact information the general enquiries phone #?
Any other tips to get this process resolved as painlessly as possible. Dealing with the Samsung Kiosk Team @ Garden City is as difficult as can be.

  • How is Samsung warranty with refurbished phone ?

    • Well, it's terrible with a genuine new phone, so I would expect it to be some kind of psychological torture with a refurb.

  • This is why I haven’t folded my foldable phone! I bought the fold 3 over the iPad mini 6 because I’m tired of sideloading my apps every 7 days. I must say the “Picture in Picture” mode sucks on android looks much cheaper app compatibility and it doesn’t pop up with my keyboard, etc but it isn’t a deal breaker! Btw both devices have jelly scroll so it’s somewhat “nOrMaL”
