Thanks got 2 tickets! Can't wait to take 2yo to first game!

    Carn the Crows
    .

Pretty sad for the Giants when you can't sell tickets for Round 1.

    • +2

But by giving them away, this may develop and grow their fanbase into the future?

      • I guess…. long game.
"Looks at the crowd here today!!!' says the commentator, so everyone rocks up the following week to be a part of it. Let's see… let's hope.

        • +4

Well even if young kids get to enjoy it but don't come back the next week, they may yet still become lifelong fans. Still better to be given away than to have an empty stadium.

    • +2

AFL doesn't care, it's a time based thing measured in decades. Same with USAFL

      • +2

Yes, the AFL actually does play a long game and is very successful in generating income and growing the game. Other major codes in Australia would do far better by adopting a business model more along the AFL's lines, rather than doing not much more than spending every dollar they earn on "the now".

        • +1

          So, gambling ad revenue?

    • +1

Is it though? Its a new market, AFL are cashed up enough and know they will need to take a hit for many years on these types of team for the bigger picture. Its not really sad, just the reality of the market and how you build a supporter base for the long run.

What is it with sporting events in Sydney and 80% empty seats?

    Are people just bored?

    • +4

Gws have no history and thus no fan base… afl still willing to prop them up… swans still sell alot if seats. But yeah gws can hardly pack a crowd in their tiny stadium.

      • +1

I worked at their Swans game last year, which was busy. 25000+ people at Accor Stadium.

    • +5

Yeah, Sydney crowds are just abysmal so it's not just the GWS Giants. Look at the NRL, aside from your occasional Rabbitohs vs Roosters match-up or similar rivalries, most games are well far away from a sell-out. Ticket prices is one factor but I'm surely there's more to it.

      • +4

its the time taken to travel to the stadium, park far away, sit in the cold or hot and then after the game have to drive all the way home. makes it hard for people with kids let alone for families struggling with money.

the most important factor is that the alternative is watching it in the comfort of your own home, with your own toilet and food and the ability to go to sleep as soon as the game finishes.

        • +1

Also Sydneysiders just not as into sport as people from Vic and SA?

        • Rightttt, the climate sounds horrible in Sydney. How do they manage to survive in the cold or hot at sporting events?? Imagine going to sport in somewhere like Europe

        • As I get older, and as an Essendon supporter, the ability to put your head down to sleep right after a loss is a big one! I used to go to just about every game, now it's maybe one a month.

      • +1

Lifelong NRL fan, never been to a game (although I have been to other sports). TV is so much better than live imo.

        • +3

Wait. How do you know it's better if you've never been? I can tell you, seeing Essendon win a Grand Final or close Anzac Day game in person destroys the TV experience by the length of the Flemington straight.

          • @cunningdrew: Depends whether you enjoy sweat, sun and crowds - or just watching the game up close (in 4K on TV)

          • @cunningdrew:

Been a while since they've even won a final. (2004)

It's also a massive pain to get to the showgrounds compared to SCG for most of Sydney. Generally require 2-3 trains which all require waits

      • +1

It's a good point. Melbourne have a good setup with the MCG and Docklands stadiums pretty darn close to everything.

    • more would prefer NRL i guess…but most of them would sit at home and watch it anyway

  • Ended? "There are no active offers available for this promotion"

  • Well I'm not sure what's just happened. I logged in with the Spinzo account as I thought it might save me a bit of time filling out forms, but I seem to have used tickets from the Junior Recruits scheme the kids once signed up for.
And by selecting quantity '2' I seem to have acquired 3 'Giants Recruits' tickets and 3 Recruits Admit' tickets.
Giants Recruits is a scheme for youngsters to get free tickets to three selected games a season, usually with an accompanying adult.
Looks as though I've just used up this season's worth.

    • You must access your tickets using the "Retrieve" link below.

You don’t have tickets to any upcoming events.
Check out the GIANTS Membership options today!

Ridiculously complicated system that requires accounts for several sites: Spinzo, Giants Members, Ticketmaster.
What is the actual point of Spinzo?

  • Cheers OP! Didn't work the first time but tried again and got 2 tickets.

  • Free transport to SOP also included?

  • Category 1 Purple are now up there for FREE.

  • Grabbed purple, blue was sold out. Section 404. Ironically can't find my tickets 😂

  • not a bad ploy, if they give away tickets and each person buys a beer or 2 they make decent money. I'd like to see the AFL put this money into expanding overseas though.

  • Why do all these deals and cheap tickets never show up for the wce :(

  • Can't go - have access to 4 tickets - DM me ASAP if interested

  • anyone use these? Any issues? Looks like it's available again for this week.

    • Yes, I used them. No issues except I was supposed to enter via a different gate than I usually do.
