Description

Forestal Siryon Diode - A Mountain Bike Only Better!
For decades now the cycling industry has given bikes labels to attempt to identify their use and what they are designed for. Downhill bikes, well that's simple. Cross Country is also self-explanatory, but when we start talking about 'Enduro' the lines begin to blur. Weighing from as little as 17.2kg is unheard of in the eMTB market, and in fact, many other 'lightweight XC' electric mountain bikes weigh considerably more yet offer less travel. With its 29" wheels and 170mm of suspension travel pins the Siryon firmly down into the long-established 'Enduro' segment but the reactive Alpha Box chassis and tuned Twin Levity kinematics ensure a bike with more agility than those impressive numbers might suggest. Fast off the mark, spritely on the track, downhill travel in the rough, but trail bike readiness and split-second manoeuvrability.

Diode - The Jewel of the Forestal Range

The peak of the Forestal offering the Diōde line features everything you could want in a bike. Featuring Ohlins front and rear suspension, XO1 Eagle AXS drivetrain, Reverb AXS dropper post, Formula Cura brakes with four-pot calipers, and Crank Brothers Synthesis Carbon E11 wheels the Diōde line gives you the ultimate available in mountain biking.

Unique And Unmistakable Design

The clean lines featured across the line combined with the unique next level engineering help build the unique and unmistakable Forestal signature design. A design that is apparent everywhere on the bike from the suspension linkage to the paint job.

Alpha Box

The Alpha Box frame technology seen right across the Forestal range is optimized for not only weight, but also comfort, rigidity, and style. The frame comes in at a staggeringly low 2.2kg without motor and hardware. This is achieved using a blend of carbon fibres to achieve the ideal weight to stiffness ratio at every point on the frame.

Twin Levity Linkage

Forestal’s patented Twin Levity linkage helps combine the simplicity of a single pivot system with the tuned kinematics of a linkage system. The result is a ground-breaking and lightweight design that allows for a smooth and supple suspension feel without sacrificing speed or feel. The twin levity linkage is optimised for every riding discipline, and this is no different on the Cyon which has been tuned to strike a perfect balance between pedalling efficiency and downhill performance.

Active Flow

Forestal have designed their electric pedal-assist system from the ground up focussing on maintaining a lightweight and compact package. The result is the Active Flow system featuring the unique EonDrive motor and Aurora battery. With Active Flow, the most challenging trails have become the natural habitat of Forestal’s bikes.

EonDrive Motor

To achieve an unparalleled level of integration Forestal had to develop the EonDrive alongside their Alpha Box framesets. The motor assembly tips the scales at just 1.95kg making it the most lightweight and compact performance motor available today. Paired with 250W and 60Nm the EonDrive motor has the torque to help you maintain your trail flow without feeling like you’re being slowed down by the extra weight. Forestal have also done everything they can to create a familiar feeling bike and have achieved this with a narrow Q-factor, just 170mm, and a standardised chainring mount which allows you to change out parts like a standard bike. When disengaged the EonDrive motor brings zero friction to the transmission allowing for resistance free pedalling.

Aurora Battery

As with all other parts on their framesets Forestal have designed the Aurora battery from the ground up. The result is a 360Wh battery that weighs just 1.8kg. The battery is completely contained within the frame and is invisible from the outside. Featuring a rapid charge technology, the battery is able to be charged to 80% in just 84 minutes. The battery is also expandable to 610Wh through the addition of the Aurora range extender which fits to the bottle cage and adds 250Wh to the system.

Interface

With every bike featuring a dedicated display, a custom app, and the smart remote Forestal’s attitude towards integration is obvious in all aspects of their bikes.

Smart Dashboard

Mounted inside the frames top tube you will find the Forestal Smart Dashboard. The ultimate partner to your eBike the dashboard provides you with a world of information right at your fingertips. The dashboard is also able to connect to your smart device where you are able to find even further detailed information. The dashboard has a low energy consumption design and features a high definition, all conditions, touch screen. The unit is also water, scratch, and impact resistant meaning it can handle the most intense rides. With over 15 features from mapping and navigation to battery status and assist control to stats and ride recording there is no limit to what you can do with the Smart Dashboard.

Smart Trigger

Rather than over complicating the controls for the motor Forestal have created a minimalistic trigger remote. You can easily swap between the four assist modes supported by the EonDrive motor: Eco, Sport, Race, and Nitro.

Link To The Forestal App

The Forestal app is the perfect companion to the Smart Dashboard during and after your ride. The app allows you to connect your smart device to your Forestal bike and gives you further insights into the data, stats, and tools available on the Dashboard. The app also allows for unique features such as Geolocation, Anti-theft, and Strava connection as well as important info like FAQs and Manuals.

Wish I could make that classic ozbargain joke but unfortunately I only bought 9. 😢

      • +8

Can you ride one up to Brisbane for me? I’ll pay $50 for your trouble

        • +18

Absolutely. Just Western Union me the $11499.50. Hell, I'll even make it free delivery. You can trust me, I'm a Nigerian Prince.

          • +4

@seamonkey: If you are truly a Nigerian prince, you will ask the payment on delivery ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

            • +10

@Royale with cheese: The heart wants what the heart wants @Royale with cheese and I must be honest with my heart and tell you that I have truly, God as my witness, fallen deep in love with you since your very last comment. I pray we will be together one day my love.

              • +1

@seamonkey: I was indicating a different form of payment 😅🤭😉 like the ones on the hub with pizza delivery

                • @Royale with cheese: Just trying the romance scam on you after I got nothing from the Nigerian prince route. Seen a few of those in my time. Fun to play along for awhile and scam the scammers. 🤣😂

      • +5

I bought 11 to make up for your cheap ass.

        Thanks OP.

    • +18

I was about to buy 10 but checked my balance and was about 139k short.

    • Bought 50 to Broden.

    • +9

I was waiting for a "damn…bought it at full price last week" comment followed by a "buy this one and return with the original invoice". I wonder how long a $23k refund takes to come through.

    • +3

Sorry, but for 10 of these you can instead buy a high yield investment*

*High yield investment must be German, SUV, Coupe or sedan only

      • +1

Chad 29” rims on my super high yield ride vs inferior 22” AMG rims.

        Sorry it’s a no brainer.

    • +7

I was hoping for a JV comment saying "got this bike from Aldi for $25, still going strong".

      • +12

Nah, JV would say "where are the pedals".

    • these bikes they probably only have 1-2 available in stocks.

    • Bought 11.

    • Not 10, but need 6.

    • +1

I showed self control, I only bought 5

    • You Gotta Pump Those Numbers Up, Those Are Rookie Numbers

    • Sell on Gumtree for profit 🤣

  • +34

    This or Kia Picanto ?

    • +79

Well, that depends. Do you want a top of the range, best in its class ride that is perfect for both daily use and weekend fun, unbeatable in its preferred environment, packed with features that make it an absolute no-brainer to buy and use for years or even decades to come… Or a mountain bike?

      • +2

Not many people will understand the price of high end MTB. Id actually seriously consider the syrion diode if they had a size other then XL

        • I believe the link in the description has other Siryons in different colours and different sizes. I think the "Diode" is the colourway rather than a specific model.

          • @TheRealCJ: Siryon is the model, Diode is the spec level

        • +1

I think 99.99999% won't and will never remotely see the possible reason it's worth that much. In fact I don't think there is any reason on earth it's worth that much.

      • +19

Your comments made me reflect on my life choices, and after a lot of thinking I've decided to take the 11k and pay 2 weeks of rent in advance on my Bondi shared room.

        • +9

At least set aside a couple of hundred for a camping toilet so you don't have to use the one across the street.

        • -2

You pay $5.5k a week for a shared room in Bondi?

      • Me thinking you were talking about the bike until the end😂

      • +1

I'd probably have more chance at winning tour De france with a picanto so yeah my mind is set

    • +2

It really depends where you live and where you go, city living get an electric bike, something cheaper then this as a car in the city gets expensive with parking and slow driving/traffic
I saw other decent electric bikes for 50% off that was as low as 2k if not cheaper posted on ozbargain before

    • +4

For this money, you could get a Yamaha 125cc dirt bike, and have change for a proper lightweight mountain bike when you feel like exercising.

The Forestal seems like an awfully expensive compromise between the two, slow for a motorised bike, heavy for a MTB. Why not buy both separately?

      • +15

On today's episode of "OzBargainers don't know what an ebike is"

        • -6

Are you bring deliberately obtuse? Or was my point too subtle?

          • +1

@bargaino: Well, you're comparing a dirtbike to an eMTB, sonforgive me if I think you don't know what you're talking about.

      • It actually weighs only slightly more than my enduro bike, which is impressive in itself, but before the discount it costs 3.5x as much. You pays your money and you takes your chances.

  • +1

    Taught Ben

  • +3

Buying this so my boy can dump it for a few hours on his friends nature strip when they are having a weekend gaming session.

  • +13

Farrrrk paid $23k for this last week!

    • +11

At least I negotiated a free bell

    • +3

I was wondering if people genuinely buy these at full price normally, or whether their one of these always on sale brands..

  • +12

you get extra $10 off by signing up for the newsletter. Woot.

  • +3

If this is a electric bike then what is the max speed it can go and the distance it can travel at max speed?

    • +1

All electric bikes are limited to 25km/h in Australia.

      • +4

surely there are ways around this

        • +3

Sure, the same way you can put a supercharger on your commodore and do dougheys in the McDonald's Carpark. Doesn't mean that it's legal.

      • Dad's is supped up to 70

      • Yeah i assumed that, but would be good to know the range at that speed

        • +5

Electric MTBs aren't really intended for cruising along at their top assist speed, they're designed to take the edge off the climbs. This one's also a lightweight model with less than half the battery capacity of a "full power" eMTB, so it's probably tuned to provide much less pedal assistance. That or it has less than half the range, but the first option is typical. It almost certainly has less range too, though.

      • My bike and ebike riding was a bit in the past…. but if I wanted to leap back in AND was cashed up, I wouldn't be worried about australian road speed limits if I was buying a verrrry expensive Emountainbike. For that price I'd be looking at an unrestricted MTB, and a cheap 25kph ebike for commuting.

    • Kids in my area book it along on daddy’s money e-bikes at 50kph + without helmets…

  • +2

i have one and can fully recommend it as a pub bike / grocery getter

    • +3

You could probably rent a pub for a year for this much.

    • +1

      Your joking right?
Why would someone get this for grocery/pub bike, it's like wasting money.

  • +1

No auto pilot at this price?

    • +1

For 11k you can hire a personal driver every weekend for a few years.

  • +9

    Great deal, bought 0.01

  • +2

Don't forget your $10 off next order voucher

  • +13

I have a eMTB, padlock key snapped while parked at a busy cafe. Phoned my wife to bring a cordless grinder from home and took less than 3 sec to cut thru a heavy duty lock, not one person batted an eyelid as I rode off. Made me realise how easy it is to lose $2.5k never mind $11.5K.

    • +10

Yeah, I was helping a friend who lost her key. I don't have a proper tool and tried it with a reciprocating saw. We were unable to secure the chain enough for it to work. A young man walked past us and immediately back track. He pulled out a bolt cutter from his backpack and broke the chain in seconds. He walked away even before we could say thanks but we were also stunned and wondering why someone walked around with a bolt cutter :). This was also in broad daylight at a busy shopping centre. No body care.

      • +5

What a nice young man. He deserves all the good luck for his future chain breaking endeavours.

      • +4

Did you see him ride past afterwards?

      • +2

He may follow you around and see where you will leave your bike

      • +1

        Professional courtesy

        • +4

He probably thought we were amateur. He taught us by real world demonstration 😂.

    • +1

Cordless grinders were the best thing to happen for bike thieves. These days nothing can stop a determined thief, so a good lock is great but insurance is a must.

      • +2

Grinders for d-locks. Boltcutters for chains.

        • +1

A 10mm kryptonite chain lock will be difficult for either. Not impossible, but hopefully enough to get the thief to go to the next bike. Heavy though. And for a $10k bike, I'd definitely be getting insurance, if you can afford a 10k bike you can afford insurance

          • @askvictor: I looked at insurance for my wife's e-bike, and it was stupid expensive…her bike was expensive, but not in this realm.

            • +1

@Banj0: My bikes are covered by my contents insurance, no matter where they are (within Australia, obviously), with no limit on value.

    • You can get some very chunky locks, I've had one that was as think as my forearm. Can always be pick locked I guess but you can deter the low energy bike thieves.

      • They'll cut the bike frame instead or the bike rack/rail lol

  • Don't know who is this for: MAMILs despise electric bicycles and bogans usually riding electric bicycles because they have been void of their driver's license will have a hard time finding and stealing this.

    • +4

Well, it's a mountain bike for starters, so MAMILS aren't gonna be interested regardless.

  • -3

    This or Tesla?

  • +2

Wow, that is a lot of money for a bicycle. Plus you have to 'build' it on top of that price. Ouch.

What sort of benefits do you get out of this compared to the many $5K e-MTBs that you can get? I am sure the theory of demising returns has a major impact on the value you'd get from this bike.

Little advice - watch the Lock Picking Lawyer's YouTube channel before buying a bike lock for this. You want to ensure your $11.5K investment can't walk off with the aid of a simple shim or rake.

    • +2

Money get your status. You rock up with mates or strangers and they will all look at your bikes with a very jealously face.

It is same as people with money may choose to buy a Lambo rather than a Porsche 911 turbo (in fact this is likely to be faster and costs half the price, more reliable as well). But there are way less Lambo on the road so more people will admire you.

No offends, I see lots of mums driving performance SUV $200K plus and only manage to drive 70km/hr regardless of the speed limits (80km/h and school zone 60km/h)

  • Hmm this or 115 of those fold up bikes on sale last Friday

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/760212

    • +4

If you make it an even hundred, you can spend the rest on steel tubing so you can weld them all together into one 200m long 200 wheel superbike!

    • -1

Hah, I wouldn't spend money on either

      • +1

I was tempted to get a couple of the $99 bikes for throwing in the back of the van whilst traveling.
        And Pub/Grocery runs.

        I tried, but missed out.

        • That's a pretty good use case!

  • +2

    Richie Rich's preferred model

  • Would have bought if shipping was free.

  • +4

This or feeding me and my family for a year?

  • I wouldn't be able to sleep soundly at night if I bought this expensive bike. Either just lock it up at home, or risk riding somewhere and get stolen.

  • +4

This price for a push bike is madness, you can get a Yamaha R3 for under 8K

    • Then there's rego, fuel, insurance, gear. Plus you could just buy a scooter for less than half the price.

      • Fair call, motor bike gear and insurance are expensive.

      • -1

Only a helmet is compulsory for both. You’d need to buy full gear for both. Anyone buying this and not insuring it for use outside the home is nuts too… I still think a Moto is better value for money… moto would definitely depreciate less than this.

  • +2

Thought they'd have electronic shifters at this price point.
edit the $11.5k model does have AXS. but not the povo model @ only $9k

  • Fark that's expensive. Can buy a decent car for that RRP price or a motorcycle at the discount price..
