A great audiophile grade cd player very cheap. This cd player will also play your high quality audio files through usb routed through its dac.

This looks like the lowest price it's ever been on Amazon and also its currently less than half the price of retail hifi stores here.

Rated 5 stars on WhatHifi. https://www.whathifi.com/reviews/marantz-cd6007

Something to note for those Ozbargain audiophiles is that the dacs in these players have been recently changed from the Ak4490 to the ES9010.

Reports on audio quality post this recent update on the majority seem to be positive.

That's nice mate. You should specify it initially.

You also won't get warranty. Only Amazon.

      • Sure, title updated :)

      • +1

Only 2 years warranty anyway. Better to pay half price.

        • +3

Obviously not fully aware of Australian rights…. You'd easily get longer.

The matching amplifier (PM6007) goes for the same price!

    • I think i bought the Pm6006 from an ozbargain post many years ago from Amazon uk

    • Would that be enough power to drive klipsch RP600ms or kef q350s?

      • Hi Mike this is a cd player, not an amplifier

        • +1

          He's not asking about the player…. :)

      • It'll be nice, but I personally don't think you need to spend that much for them, Kefs in particular, no experience with that Klipsch, not a fan of their sound in general.

I am actually thinking of smsl a300. Its under 300 at amazon. And has got some great reveiws on youtube.

same now i want to buy a cd player as i still own over 300 CDs and an tired of listening to ripped flacs and am shocked that cd players have gone in price …. time to keep eye out for hardware collection days …..

    • Probably had killer electronics. Bummer

    • +1

Uh huh, then what, you started downloading mp3s in 1998?

      • +1

I definitely did, you had to download them from websites that hosted them and they took like 25 minutes each to download on dial up.

    Very expensive cd player 😬

    • +6

In the world of Hifi this is very entry pricing.

And here I am listening to 128kbps mp3s like a pauper
        .

        • Dude, you gotta double that at least!

        • it’s a generational thing …..my nephews are into blue tooth speakers and mp3 ….say they wouldn’t have room for large speakers and amp ….and they have no music source other than ml3 anyway …

      • What so hifi about it? Best it can do is outputting the cd audio to amp via optical out. Nothing more.

Unless you got a 24bit cd collection? Rip

  • Here, here its not 2014 . 128k mp3s are lofi

    Dad, whats a cd?

  • +1

placed. not sure if I should have.

    • 😬🤣

  • I suppose a DAC can have a subjective quality, but what's the point of $600 if you're using the coaxial output? It can't be any more digital than digital.

    • Sound itself is inheritenly subjective. Based on the universal praise of this player id persinally want to utilise the internal dac. You could cheaply buy a second hand cd player if you need only a trasnport.

  • I still have about 1000 classical CDs collected over decades sitting in my bookcase collecting dust and maybe mould… would still give it a miss even though it was something I really wanted to buy years ago. I have a DAC which can decode MQA and since tidal I had almost never touched my CD collections. There might be a few which can't be found in Tidal library but I will live with my entry level Yamaha player if I ever want to play them.

Streaming may be convenient but wont come close to the audio quality of a finely tuned dedicated cd palyer.

      • I find it quite the opposite from the experience of my setup. Before streaming I already dumped my CD to FLAC and streaming locally, the difference is negligible but local streaming is more consistent.

That is the case for 44K/16bit CD quality comparison, streaming master quality is better for the same source playing from CD quality, for Tidal MQA I don't find it better than CD much but it is at least no worse than CD quality.

        • What dac are you using?

I have had high end cd player setups including rega etc. Ive never come close with a streaming set-up (tidal + dac) to the quality of a cd player

          • @Hendoferson: Currently I use a NAD which can decode Tidal MQA, I have had quite a few DACs along the way, the first decent one I had was a PS Audio Digital Link III DAC, it was like about 20 years ago, I sold it during covid lockdown time for quite a good price, even at that time I find it better than most internal DAC from most CD players. I used to own a decent Sony SACD player, the DAC part of it also doesn't sound as good as the PS audio.

But the comparison here is the CD turntable part of a CD player vs streaming sources. As they can both use the same DAC, either the internal DAC from the CD player or the external DAC (any mid-end CD player would offer the option of using its DAC part decoding the external output). From my experience, I almost always find the streaming, either local or internet streaming, as long as the source file is good, would be no worse than the output from any CD turntable. Even like almost 20 years ago, my very cheap Logitech SB3 digital output from FLAC files can do an equal or better job than many good CD player's turntable's digital output, with the same DAC, as long as they are good flac files.

So I think the question should be, how good are Tidal master, Tidal Hifi, or Amazon ultra HD/HD, Qobuz Hi-Res etc? My experience is that they are mostly good, but I do occasionally find some ripped poorly with noticeable quality issues from Tidal. (I have very limited experience with the other two lossless streaming services I didn't find any issues, doesn't mean they won't have) I still love my old flac files, but Tidal Hifi/MQA are 99.9% no worse, or even better, and way more convenient and way cheaper.

  • Isn't this what my old school Sony DEJ01 does? hahahah
Think there is an older Technics xp600 unit sitting around here somewhere too, with 10sec of anti skip/anti shock or whatever it was called back in the day…

  • Ya can't mention audiophile and what hi-fi in the same sentence
