  • Aren't these really really old?

Does that stop them being good? I'm really really old in some people's eyes and still astonishingly good.

My 1975 Technics absolutely slap. So no issue with them being old.

        username checks out…?

  • Allegedly, a 5 star review from What Hi-Fi doesn't mean much. Can anybody vouch for these?

    • Here is the box of the speakers with the What HiFi 5-Stars, as well as mention of the 5-Star review on this What HiFi forum, however we are currently unable to locate the review ourselves even though we found it when we initially received the speakers! Must have been archived on What HiFi's website but if we locate it we'll post the link :)

      • I was referring to the online community of self-professed audiophiles who claim that What Hi-Fi employs dishonest tactics and doesn't review audio products based on a standardised methodology.

True or not, I'd be happy to hear the thoughts of current or past owners.

          self-professed audiophiles

I run these from my class X amplifier with special oxygen-free platinum cables sold by Uri Gellar. I also pay for my electricity to be generated by virgins cycling on stationary bikes where the transformer windings are covered in a specific form of verdigris known to the ancient Greeks as prasino skata. But about the speakers… The soundstage is very airy, delivering spicy trebles and bass with hints of vanilla and tobacco. Sophisticated audiophiles (like me) will sense a slight tension between the euphonic mid-ranges and the simple, almost dry, higher registers. Did I mention they also sound warm?

(P.S. Not a true review, not a current or past owner, also not a self-professed audiophile).

Seems reviews mostly suggest not a studio monitor, but still an amazing speaker for it's price.

      • If I read that Forum stream right, these speakers could be bought for $70 (presumably US dollars from 2008, but still….)

        • No, that would be GBP.

  • I have a set they're probably 15+ years old, very happy with them but haven't compared to any newer offerings
