Unless you have your mind set on a NVIDIA 4000 series laptop and want to sell a kidney for it, I'd call this a pretty good price with cashback on top (7% at Cashrewards, though it might be worth waiting for a better rate if you're willing). As far as I can tell, this beats out the previous best at $1949.

    • +7

very cheap to bump up to 32gb ram..

    • +10

      Apple please take note.

    • +3

where do you get 32gb of ddr5 ram for $79?
thatll deserve an ozbargain post all by itself

      • +1

        Customise the laptop during purchase.

      • +7

It's the difference between 16GB and 32GB that costs $79. Not the whole 32GB :D

  • +2

Good one. I bought mine last week at 1.9k. I should have upgraded

  • +1

OP you should change your title to Guybrush57 specs. With those specs it's definitely a much better deal. If I didn't have a laptop, I would be tempted.

  • +5

Please note: weight of the laptop ~2.5 kg & weight of the power brick ~0.5 kg

    • +4

      Power brick is 1kg lol

  • Unless you have your mind set on a NVIDIA 4000 series laptop and want to sell a kidney for it

Nitro 5 with 4050/4060 looks promising.

    • +1

Unfortunately the Nitro's chassis is lower quality compared to the Legion Pro.

      • That's fair but I'll take performance over chassis quality.

        • It's not just the chassis. Generally lower tier laptops have dog thermal solutions, so you'll end up with lower clocks.

  • +6

To save anyone else a try, the edu price is $1839, and cannot apply BUILD coupon code.

  • Why intel cpu cost more?

    • +8

Probably because the Intel marketing development fund needs a return on investment.

      • +1

no because they have an early retirement program

  • -2

Waiting for the 13980HX model this year , double the 6800h benchmark , I hope few hundreds bucks may worth the upgrade .

    • +3

The 13980HX has a max TDP of 157w. That's more than a lot of desktop processors. The 6800h has a TDP of 45w. I thought it would get more than double in a certain benchmark, considering it has 8p cores and 16e cores, compared to 8p cores of the 6800h, but it must be thermal throttling due to such a high TDP and can't be kept cool enough inside the laptop chassis it was tested.

      • +3

Cool and quiet Intel CPU's are not. AMD still the leader here and if you want to game in a thermally bound device like a laptop you are better off with an AMD that is not thermally throttling and save the cooling system for the GPU, since most games are GPU bound.

        • Not to mention heat kills electronics, so a laptop constantly getting t-throt will most likely have a shorter lifespan.

        • +2

My work laptop Intel i7 thermally throttles all the time. The i5 version in a cheaper older laptop outperforms it in real world, because the thing throttles if you do any task that takes longer then a few minutes.

Laptops all about thermals not cpus I would look at the actual benchmarks of the laptops not the CPUs in them.

  • Does anyone know the tdp on graphic card is it 140w cannot see anywhere mentioned

    Thx

    • +2

I have this device it is 130W for the 3060 in this chassis

      • Thx mate

  • How heavy are these bad boys?

    • +2

2.5 kg. another 1kg for the brick

  • -1

Won't let me increase warranty over 1 year carry in. If I could make this 3 years then this would be perfect for my young bloke for school.

    • +4

      Probably too heavy for school

    • +4

It's a massive unit for school. But you could always look at insurance instead of extended warranty since it'll cover theft and accidental damage too. My son's policy is about $100 per year with a $100 excess.

      • +1

@wombat Do you mind sharing where I can get the insurance from for 100 bucks? Not seeing any options at lenovo website when trying to make a purchase. Thanks

3060 in 2023 is not really selling. Should have at least 3070 or 3070Ti for 1440p gaming.

    • +1

They are still selling 1650 in 2023

    • +1

The 3060 is ok at the moment but it might become an issue in the future. 6GB of VRAM is the most concerning part imo. Driving a 1600p display on new release games may prove too limiting. DLSS may help out but it’s not ideal to rely on upscaling

    • You can spec it up to a 3070 (non Ti) for $500. Quite steap. At least they aren't gouging on the memory, but adding a 2nd 1TB SSD is $624. Makes me want to swear.

  • +1

Hmm doesn’t seem to have a thunderbolt port :(

    • Yes, bit disappointing that there's no USB4 port on this one.

    • Intel model from 1879 with 3050Ti (2079 with 3060.)

  • +2

How does this deal stack up against the one from last year?

    Lenovo Legion 7i - Intel Core i7-11800H 16GB RAM 1TB SSD RTX3070 165Hz W11H(ebay.com.au) - $1999.20

Is it worth holding out for another deal that good or is this one pretty comparable?

    • I'm not an expert, but I'd prefer the R7 over the i7 all day. Do the factory upgrades in the first comment here and you'll have a beast.

      • 3070 is a fair step up from the 3060. Particularly the extra 2GB of VRAM is going to help in new releases.

        • -1

True, but the throttling that the i7 is likely to have might offset that?

          • @wombat81: The i7 doesn’t throttle. The Intel based Legions use Liquid Metal instead of thermal compound which seems to resolve thermal issues that usually plague Intel CPU gaming laptops

            • @FireRunner: Fair enough. I'm not familiar with them, but keeping intel gaming laptops cool is a big challenge. Sounds like Lenovo must have a decent design.

              • @wombat81: I'm pretty new to Ozbargin, would it be reasonable to expect the deal I linked to pop up again, semi regularly? In short, I'm not sure if it's worth holding out for a legion 3070 at a similar price or just pouncing on this one, you know?

                • +2

@Shwiloo: I'm sure a similar deal will happen again. Hard to say how long you'll have to wait, though.

          • @wombat81: Mobile went up to 10nm a generation newer than desktops mate, 11800H do not have noticable temp problems over the 5800H.

What the amd chips have over intel chips is that they scales better at lower, sub 40w workloads, have better igpu and battery life, its not to say the 11800H dont have gains over the 5800H neither - faster gaming and esp 1% lows thanks to the bigger L3 cache and that they scale better on higher wattage use case.

  • I want to sell my kidney, where to?

Hey guys . Im looking for a lenovo laptop for my younger brother . It'll mostly be for online learning so a webcam is a must , light web browsing , word documents and light gaming . Budget is around $1k . Thanks in advance

  • +1

I was about to order this a couple of days ago but was told there would be a 4 week lead time, plus another 2 weeks for delivery. Not something they advertise.
Last year I had an order cancelled and Lenovo couldn't give me any further discount than their web site discounts to accomodate me on another machine. They wouldn't accomodate this time either even with the machine spec'd up for a 3070, 32GB RAM.
Then I had someone very pushy follow up from Lenovo follow a couple of hours ago. "When are you going to place your order?" 12th of Never you pushy *******. Then when I said I wouldn't be due to the lead time he said it was a week then quickly changed his story to "only up to 3 weeks".
The 40-series laptops are just around the corner now, and I'm cheesed off with Lenovo. Although according to Jarrod's Tech the new models have gone backwards in some ways. I'm not sure I want a Lenovo anymore. Their service and quality seem to be going downhill.

Just a bit of correction as that shitty site is using google translate:

Savior = Legion as its called here and around the globe. As to how to decode the model number used:

      R - AMD, Y - Intel (Here its the 'i' at the end of the model), 7000P - Legion 5, 9000P - Legion 5 Pro, 9000K - Legion 7, 9000X - Legion Slim
